Best Deal On Silhouette Cameo (2024 Updated)

The silhouette cameo 4 plus is a beautiful machine, but also has been incredibly irritating to troubleshoot. It is infamous for having trouble detecting the lineup markers. There’s forums upon forums of people who have gotten pretty much 0 response from silhouette america.

The machine itself has a lot of great features and it cuts great. It is better than cricut in a lot of ways, but the problem is, it is so hard to use half the time I almost regret buying it. I chalk most of this up to silhouette go being not getting the work it needs.

It has a lot of issues, such as color will not print accurately as long as you use silhouette go. not using silhouette go to print means you have to buy a pix scan mat and every time you need to print and cut you have to take a photo or scan your work before and send it to silhouette go.

this is great except it has trouble reading anything with a glare if you use a phone or tablet to take a photo of it. this includes laminate for stickers and anything else shiny or not matte. the whole process is really excessive.

This isn’t accounting for trying to get the finicky bluetooth working or having to realign because the cut is off (literally out of the box). for the price of this machine it should be easy to use. however, this is not JOANN stores fault, just silhouette america.

so overall, it is a nice, good looking machine, but the process of cutting takes longer than just cutting them by hand.

I’d rate more like a 3. 75. I’ve been disappointed that no Quick Start physical booklet was enclosed with machine, rather I have to access all info online which can be troublesome with limited wifi in the mountains.

Also have purchased other blades as autoblade is lacking in ability to thoroughly cut matte vinyl. haven’t tried it on anything else but if matte doesn’t get a clean cut set at 6 with a 20 force, I doubt a thicker material would work either.

That said, I’m relatively patient and have self taught many editing and sketch programs so I’m learning slowly and with additional $$ expense. Determination and perseverance.

Coming from the Cricut platform, this machine is certainly not quality. It’s VERY VERY loud. So, prepare yourself to not be able to hear yourself think if you are working next to this thing. Also, if you are getting this to utilize the ‘cut from the roller’ feature, be prepared to sporadically lose yards and yards of your vinyl if you plan on cutting longer than 2 feet.

The vinyl will get dragged and pulled and it will shift if you take your eye off of it. Another gripe. if you like using Bluetooth to connect to your device, good luck with this one. Just like cutting from the roll, it’ll work sporadically.

I think the max reach is 10ft and even if you are within 10ft, there’s a high chance you’ll lose your Bluetooth connection and your machine will stop cutting half way through (more loss vinyl). OH, and lastly, if you you leave your screen on the cut screen for a prolonged time, the program crashes and requires you to force quit.

Other than that, when the machine works, it is a dream come true. I would return the thing if it wasn’t for me having to pay to reship and this whole C19 pandemic.

First off, it’s not 9†wide. It’s still the regular 8†one. So I’m not sure why it’s advertised as 9â€. And second, I had no issues with ordering or anything through swing design but I didn’t like the machine.

It’s SUPER loud, it feels cheaply made, and it takes forever to do anything. The design software feels clunky and old. It’s slow and it’s not very user friendly. Granted I am comparing this to my experience with Cricut.

I’m currently trying to return this purchase because I really just didn’t like it and I no longer need it now that my Cricut has reset itself and is cutting properly. Overall, no complaints about swing design.

Just not a fan of silhouette.

I recently took upon sticker making as my new hobby and came across a variety of machines that would make the cutting process a lot more easier. Upon doing my research, I thought the silhouette portrait 3 would be the best fit.

Boy, was I wrong! I followed every tutorial video, instructions clearly, and saw so many step to step blogs on how to work the machine. Nonetheless, the machine despite every attempt I made to fix the error haunted me and frustrated me up to the point of throwing it against the wall with the words on the screen that said “Registration failed; Registration marks not detected.

” Ugh!!!! I encountered that message probably like 20 times before giving up entirely and resulting in returning the item back to the store. Would not recommend for beginner users. Software is really complicated and overall was not the best fit for me.

I am honestly feeling so defeated right now. I have had this machine for two weeks, I have watched every tutorial and troubleshooting video, and I have yet to successfully cut one single sticker. The studio for creating my print works fine, but once I load it into the Silhouette, nothing works.

The test cut only ever scores the sheet, and the machine will not read registration marks, therefore, it won’t cut anything. I’ve tried every tip and trick and still, nothing. I’m not sure if it’s my machine, my project, or if it’s the Portrait in general, considering the number of people who share my same issues.

I am going to return and possibly try the Cameo. I have never had a piece of tech give me this my trouble.

I have owned 2 cutters in the past. The wishblade and the eclips. This was easy peasy set up with flawless cutting. Michaels customer service was fantastic. My sales rep was Maria in the Cambridge MA store and she was fabulous! No they don’t put returns back on the shelf.

They send them back to the manufacturer who gives them full credit. My machine was spanky brand new and everything worked right out of the box. You need to know how to use a computer, download files and have a basic understanding of how software works.

I followed the online videos and had my machine going in about 20-30 minutes. Don’t do it with out first following the directions online. I will learn the basics then try the more complicated. The noise is not whisper quiet but maybe a bit louder than a noisey printer? Its a tad bit quieter tham my Eclips and doesn’t bother me at all.

Get this machine at Michaels! They are great with customer service and if the machine doesn’t work return it for a free refund but save that receipt. Hope this helps!.

Cameo 4 pro owner here. I have so far had the best and Worst customer service experience. Until the moment they got my machine (nearly 2 months after me ruining close to 50’ of vinyl and testing my butt off thinking it was me).

I was told if i “deposited” $500ish theyd send me a new machine before they received my machine. I dont have that much after spending $100s of vinyl and subscriptions to their MONEY GRAB company. They get my machine and tell me it will be 2-4 weeks before they either fix my machine or send a new one and REFUSE to just send me a new one.

Dont waste your time or money with this company. SVG files shouldnt cost money. Trust me you can create your own files or find free ones on the Internet with a little bit of effort. Also subscribing to their club is pointless because the amount of money you spend would pay for the “free gifts “that you receive as being part of the club.

Fonts are available on several websites 100% free for personal use. Please dont waste your money.

This is my second Cameo. I bought the 4 as an upgrade from my original Cameo for paper crafting and the occasional vinyl project. The 4 is a complete frustration. It cuts poorly. Maybe it’s the new auto blades.

Maybe it’s the machine. Whether using the auto cut or the manual cut options (where you select the depth, speed and multicut options), the machine will not give me a through and through cut. With a new blade, I can send a cut file 4 or more times (usually more!!) increasing the depth each time and the machine will not cut through card stock.

In most cases the back of the card stock is barely scored or not scored at all after many cuts. I’m wasting hours and paper recutting and then hand cutting with an exacto knife. This was an expensive purchase.

I don’t understand how the 4th generation can be less reliable than the 1st. I cannot recommend this machine.

It is easy to setup and the software is pretty straightforward to use. If you can’t figure out the software there are plenty videos on line about how to do different things. It comes with everything you need and should do most of what it says it can do.

So, what can’t it do? It does not cut accurately! Using print & cut (with registration marks) the cutter will drift out of alignment as the cutter travels down the page (i. e. the items on the bottom right quarter of the page will not be cut correctly and if accuracy is needed, you will be throwing that all out).

If you think I exaggerate, please just go search for it on the internet. You will find many customer “solutions” for this issue including. Reducing the packet size (did nothing for me) “Simplifying” the cut patterns (actually made the cuts worse, do not do this) Only printing “below” the registration marks (again, zero difference).

The one thing I have been testing, with some success, is letting the machine “cool” between cut sheets. How long you ask, 2 hours. I’ll let you work out the products duty cycle based on cutting once every 2 hours.

Anyway, yes, Silhouette America does have customer support and you can submit an incident. The only issue is they DON’T actually get back to you. I assume it’s because they have no fix for the cheap parts they put in their product.

Try a different brand, or BUY MINE!.

I am still getting used to my new machine. I had a Cameo 1 but had to update when Windows 10 did an automatic update and my old machine would not work with my computer anymore as Silhouette is no longer supporting it.

So, I got the new one. So far I really like it. I have only used the auto blade that it came with so I don’t know about the other blades or the extra pressure the machine is able to cut at when other blades and materials are used.

I do wish there was better information on where to get help and tutorials that are available.

I’m so happy with my first purchase from SwingDesign. I purchased a Silhouette Cameo 4 and some accessories. All arrived pretty quickly and in great shape. I’m having fun learning how to use my Cameo – it’s quite different from the Cricut Explore I’m used to, but it’s great.

Silhouette provides lots of resources, and the goodies that SwingDesign added (such as a free month of SilhouetteU) are very valuable to me. You have a new, loyal customer!.

I love my Cameo 4! It came just in time to get wedding stuff done for my daughter’s wedding. There are a couple of things that could use improvement though. When editing text it is hard to “grab†the first letter to highlight and change.

Very frustrating when doing a ton of text based designs. The other thing is, the Cameo has an attitude sometimes if I give it too many things to cut on the same doc. It is like it gets overwhelmed and decides to just keep processing.

I have to shut down Silhouette Design Studio Pro and turn off the Cameo and then turn everything back on.

The star rating is not for Swing design but for the Silhouette Cameo 4. It has never worked as expected out of the box. I have gone thru umpteen sheets of vinyl trying to get reliable, repeatable results.

It has never worked properly with the default settings, which one assumes is set at the factory to be the correct ones. Today I tried cutting a design and it worked ok but didn’t cut deep enough. So I increased the pressure until it did.

Then I ran it again with the same design, the same vinyl etc. Damned thing cut way too deep, right through the backing. And forget about a manual. There isn’t one of any depth that addresses all the various settings and why you you may or may not change them.

For example – do you change the settings in the software and then change the setting on the auto blade? I was looking for a tool that I can plug in and use without becoming a tester for Silhouette. I have no faith in it and I feel I should have bought the Cricut Maker as originally planned.

I am new to cameo and I’m so glad that I bought one of the Cameo bundles. It had everything that I needed to get started. The reason that I purchased my Cameo from here is because I previously purchased my uninet icolor 560 from here and was satisfied with that order as well.

I called Customer Service in regards to a heat press and the young man that I spoke with was so nice and helpful. Now I always try to shop with them for my crafting needs.

Generally disappointed with this cutting machine. First a caveat: I have been using a Cricut Explore Air 2 for quite some time and do most of my design work in Inkscape. Many of the comments I make are somewhat comparative.

(I bought the Cameo partly because I was peeved at Cricut trying to change its upload limits. ) Most of what I design is cardstock based, with some limited use of htv and vinyl. Much of what I do is 3D design, so a different set if requirements than those for HTV or vinyl or sticker designs.

Pros: It is faster on many cuts (especially with cutting cardstock scorelines. ) The Studio Designer Edition (extra $$) is more robust than Design Space. The pen adapters work very nicely. Cons: 1: VERY NOISY compared to the Cricut.

2. The workflow is a lot messier than with the Cricut, 3. DECEPTIVE descriptions: The additional force applied is almost totally useless for many materials, even with the deep cut blade. Using the deep cut blade with high force will probably destroy the Cameo.

I was unable to cut anything heavier than thin chipboard without a LOT of shenanigans with the cuts, multiple blade depth adjustments, etc. Had I known this, I would NOT have wasted my money on this cutter.

4. The print/cut feature has a rather large margin of error (1/16th inch). Not unsurmountable, but can be a pain. 5. The print/cut process is finicky and difficult to master. 6. Scanning with the pixscan mat is not possible without a large format scanner (even with TWAIN) 7.

The blades are expensive and not amenable to simple blade replacement without replacing the entire unit. This is wasteful and expensive. 8. Expensive mats. I think if I had it to do all over again, I would not spend my money on the Cameo 4.

It just has too many deficiencies. If I had watched more videos, I might have realized that it had issues (many of them have to deal with troubleshooting problems — which says a lot). I think that I would probably have been less critical had I not worked previously with the Explore Air 2, and it may well be that someone starting out with a Cameo 4 and the software without any previous experience would be comfortable with it.

At the same time, the Cameo 4 is far from intuitive to use. I’m not really loving writing a less than glowing review, but do think that folks who have needs similar to mine should go into this eyes open.

First and foremost, I received my Cameo Bundle nicely packaged and quickly. I felt slightly intimiated upon setting it up but I followed the instructions that came with it and began watching suggested videos.

In no time, I was comfortable with my Cameo. The Camo and Heat Press exceeded my expections. Highly recommend. Fun to learn and more fun to turn ideas into actual projects. Thanks Silouette!.

The package deal was great! The Cameo 4 works wonderfully! I usually tinker and ding with high performance road racing motorcycles, so this is quite a change! That said, my machines, my equipment, and my space are all personalized with projects made from the Cameo.

Absolutely love it, and look forward to getting more in depth with the capabilities of this little pup!! BTW, the weeding hook isn’t up to par. do yourself a huge favor and get a PinPen, sometimes referred to as a weeding pen.

I jumped too soon on a used one and could have got a new one for the same price if I’d waited a little longer. Turns out if you buy a used Silhouette or Cricut that someone else has already registered, you can never get that device registered to your name.

So as far as Silhouette or ProvoCraft are concerned, you barely exist. Also, it came with a rotary blade installed that the machine didn’t recognize. The standard blade was in the box, so I put that in, and it worked fine.

If Silhouette has a manual of any kind, I have yet to find it. I’d like an introduction to the thing that has a little more depth than “Plug it in and download the software and try this shape. ” I like that the little bracket that holds rollers is built into the machine and not a separate piece that can be lost.

That said, it seems a little flimsy compared to the construction of the rest of the thing. I wanted a good solid machine that will cut materials thicker and or denser than my Expression, Silhouette 1, or Explore 1, but saving about $20 by buying one that was “barely used” was a bad choice.

I’m sure I’ll figure out the rest on my own – I always do.

I am rating my purchase as a 5 star. Swing design did fantastic with ordering, communication and wonderful shipping!!. However I am displeased with the Silhouette Cameo 4. Less then 4 days after set up the Cameo is Dead!!.

Will not power on and we have gone through all the troubleshooting pages and ran a voltage meter on the power supply which is fine. Plugged the cameo 4 into different outlets even tried the power supply from our CE lite 50.

Nothing! Now I have a brand new machine I cant use , wasted money and time. The lack of customer service from Silhouette and the machine problems is not Swings fault. I almost went with a CriCut maker and now wonder if I should have even though the Cricut will not work with other software programs and it does not have some of the bonus’s as a Cameo at least they have a customer service you can reach.

The machine came with alot of extras, which is awesome, and I have figured out how to use the pens. The sketch function is great and easy to learn. I am having troubles cutting oracle 651 vinyl though.

It doesn’t cut all the way through. It cuts htv fine, but also cuts through the plastic sheet. Its an auto blade so I feel like I’m not doing anything wrong. A little frustrating, but I’m learning!.

Love it! Arrived in perfect shape and was packed super safely, which I was nervous about since the delivery company literally threw the package over my balcony. I was up and running about 5 minutes after I opened it up.

The bundle was the best deal out there – and having used the Cricut Maker I feel the Cameo is WAY better. It is significantly louder, but the quality and speed along with the larger print and cut ability is totally worth the noise.

So I’ve work with both brands, I’ve have 2 circuits in the past and also worked with my sister’s silhouette cameo 1. and I like the fact that I can design without internet. I recently purchased the cameo 4 educational bundle, for vinyl and cookie stencils.

and because it’s stronger than the cricut maker. And I LOVE it! I haven’t cut thicker materials just yet but I believe these bundle deals are amazing for anyone looking to start crafting. Purchasing it from swing design was quick and easy, I recieved it within a week, and I live in Guam.

It’s a beautiful machine, I did however have to reboot the machine in order to get the bluetooth working properly, but soo far I love it.

The products I purchased are awesome. First time using them and with your online classes made it so much easier to use. Definitely recommend these items to anyone that wants to start a hobby or small business.

I have just found the time to set up and use this for my first project. I’m having fun learning about its capabilities and what it can do, and my first projects came out pretty well. I’m a total newbie to this world though, so more direction and explanation would have been welcome.

I also would have loved to see everything that came with the machine labeled because I had no idea what I was looking at. I have no complaints with the machine or the purchase, it’s just a little overwhelming with my nonexistent experience trying to transition the projects in my head onto the software and manipulate and cut them so that they work and look nice.

I’m very excited to research and learn though!.

Ordered Saturday and it arrived the following Friday. Quick shipping with alerts to let me know the progress. I also purchased the Business Edition Software and that was quickly delivered online as well and at a great price! I’m having a bit of trouble cutting card stock and will probably continue to use my Cricut Maker for that but I’ve created a number of vinyl projects no problem.

I did need to make some adjustments to the standard settings however. I also prefer the Silhouette weeding tool to the ones I have by Cricut. Overall, I’m pleased with the purchase and would definitely recommend Swing Design as a great place to purchase from.

This machine is my best friend! Love it. I am still using the vinyls from this set and the transfer tape. I have yet to use the pens but the offering for the price is definitely a benefit I appreciated accessing.

I was so excited when I received my Cameo 4 but was not able to open and use it for about a week due to work and life!! I was little nervous because opening it but knew I had to start sooner or later!! As soon as I did it was so easy I’m a natural what can I say!! The reason I don’t give it five stars is because of the software.

It drove me crazy the next day I was ready to put it back in the box and give up! But the good thing is i read some troubleshooting issues and it worked!.

My order arrived way faster than I thought it would and I was notified every step of the way!! The amount of free content and training they offer is absolutely phenomenal! This is my 1st cutting machine and I was 100% confident on how to use it just from watching videos from Swing Design!! Loving my Cameo 4.

Package was delivered as promised and was packaged very well. Everything that was promised was included. My only suggestion is that the label the medium. I am new to this form of crafting and I have not way of determining what what is what when it comes to vinyl.

It is just neatly packed in a ziplock bag and I am having to google and watch YT to determine what each one is for. Another thing is that the auto blade seems to be a bad one. I have adjusted the settings but nothing works.

Other than that I am very pleased.

the only issue I had was a white piece of shipping cardboard was placed inside the cameo 4 holding the cutter head. I think it should be a different color say orange or red so it doesn’t blend in with the machine or at the very least write on it to remove it.

The cutter does a great job as advertised. I still never got a diffinitive answer to a simple question about cutting polystyrene sheets in it. and which blade to use for it.

I have had this product for about a week and a half and I have been using it non-stop. It arrived quickly and the bundle was certainly worth the investment. I have plenty of material to experiment, and learn how to use the different kinds of vinyl.

Have not used the pens yet, but I am sure that I will be equally impressed. The extra books and 30 days of SilhouetteU have been great as well. This bundle has everything you need to make some awesome projects on day one.

Phenomenal value for the price.

The service and shipping was so fast! It’s taking a huuuge learning curve with the cameo 4 though. A lot of trial and error. I wish it were more user friendly right out of the box. But swing design is where I’ll be ordering my items from.

The prices for what you get are better than anywhere else I’ve seen! Thank you! The only other negative I have, which is the reason for the 4 stars, is because it is difficult as crap to get all of the free stuff.

It took me about 30 minutes to access my 100 free items and rósate I have not been able to access the free 30 day trial for silhouette university let alone sign up do to an issue with the system. I’ve tried everything and it won’t go through.

Customer service has responded to my inquiry but I still have not found a resolution yet.

Great product that is fairly easy to use. The studio software has some great functionality but also a bit of a learning curve. Was able to set it up and be cutting out a project within 30 minutes. The cutting mat started off so sticky that the paper would rip, even after using a microfiber cloth as recommended.

But after cutting several pages the stickiness lessened and worked great. Glad I made this purchase.

I have a business, which uses Portrait 1, Portrait 2 and Portrait 3 machines. Although we do like our Portrait 3 machines, we do NOT like that the software crashes CONSTANTLY. Unfortunately, in order to operate Portrait 3 machines, the software must be one of the recent versions.

Silhouette REALLY needs to get their software working properly if they’re gonna be selling these machines.

I bought this machine for my tshirt business 2 weeks ago. I took this past Friday off from work to set up the silhouette portrait 3. I successful put it together sign up with silhoutte america did a test scan, needless to say that I am very disappointed.

I after 2 days of trying to figure out why this machine was not cutting my designs on to heat transfer paper light color. I YouTube, research on silhouette America website and chat with a robot that was a drag out dead end and searching for resolution came up with nothing.

Yeah I will be returning this product back. I regret purchasing this cutter.

Just what I needed for my silhouette cameo 3 vinyl cutter. Blade was easy to install and cut smooth. I checked online for nearby stores that carried it. 3 stores close by had it available. I am very happy with my purchase.

the order was processed and mailed out so quickly. I received it in record time!! Plus the prices were among the cheapest for the silhouette blades. The Siser iron-on vinyl colors shown matched actual product.

Silhouette blades are awesome. Mine last a long time and they are affordable! The blades for the cameo 3 are often interchangeable with previous Silhouette models.

I’ve had this machine for a while and I’m not an avid user but, when I do attempt to use it I can NEVER get the registration marks to REGISTER. This is the only reason I don’t use it more regularly. I have no problem with creating my designs but what should take minimal effort to do leaves me very frustrated.

I have spent all afternoon into the evening watching ALL of the Youtube videos, even resetting everything to no avail just to be angry because nothing seems to work. I have put the light over the registration marks, manually set the cutter over the registration marks, scratched the registration marks, pulled the cover slightly over, and added the light to specifically shine on the registration marks, set and reset ALL WITH NO SUCCESS!!! This is the worst business decision I’ve made by far a total waste of money!!! I wish I could give it negative stars.

Absolutely love this company, when i got the cameo it would not turn on, so i messaged them, and they put another one in mail the same day and sent me prepaid return label. when the new one came in, it worked perfectly and we love it, and they sent extra goodies with it.

Ordered the new Cameo 4 in black, it is fantastic! I’ve been wanting to upgrade from the original Portrait, and boy am I glad I did. Bluetooth enabled, no cords to get in my way, 12 inch cut space as compared to 9 inches on the Portrait.

where have I been? Swing Design delivered my item promptly and with some extra goodies, I will definitely save all my Silhouette purchases for them!.

Might be because im a new user or because I bought the basic program but this machine and it’s program is difficult to use. Half the time it doesn’t cut at all then it will do fine the next few cuts.

I have to increase the force on all my cuts. I have tried the troubleshooting and it didn’t change anything. It keeps cutting on the opposite side it shows on my computer. If I cut without the mat sometimes it’s fine, sometimes it bunches up and just punches holes.

I know it’s a good product but I don’t know if all the issues are user error or I just got a weird machine. I do wish I had gotten a circuit but that may change with time and education.

I appreciate your request for feedback, as like you, we are also a small business. However, while we have advanced degrees and use fairly sophisticated tools and instruments within our company, we were unable to make the Silhouette perform BASIC functions of cutting rectangles around our logo and product name on sticker paper.

We could make it work only one time. Seems like courses and info are designed for people who’ve had previous versions of the machines, or who have experience with design software? Expensive machine that now sits idle, even after 2 of us have spent hours to try to get it to perform this very basic function.

If we want to follow along and get pretty children’s stickers and things like that, seems like we can do it along with the class, but what we need is help with a no-muss no-fuss product labeling system for our business.

We haven’t been able to find help. Now the machine makes the cut, but it doesn’t go thick enough through the sticker paper even after adjusting settings. With the auto tool, seems like we should not have to do that? Meantime we have come up with a new tool: SCISSORS.

To be honest I was intimidated by my new machine as I am new to this world of crafting. She made it to where I understand not only the software but the machine. I was able to pair with my silhouette cameo 4 and haven’t stopped yet.

I would recommend this class to anyone and everyone. Worth every single penny.
