20 Best Dark Rum For Coquito (2023 Updated)

Bacardi white rum goes well in a mojito other I have no special love for Bacardi. I love Havana Club (cuban not PR) and Flor de Cana’s. A friend got me this as a gift. I was shocked at how much I loved it.

Awesome! Hard to find this product but you had it. I received it when I expected and it was packaged perfectly so no breakage.

This is the best Bacardi rum they have. Not harsh, with a spicy and mild sweetness that goes great in drinks. As good as captain Morgan but not as sweet.

I started drinking this in my early twenties and 30 years later it is still my favorite. I don’t know what it is about it cuz normally I’m not a spiced person but this spiced rum is perfect for me. I drink it with diet Coke and sometimes diet ginger ale in the summer.

The only other one that comes close for me is an Appleton spiced rum but it is difficult to get where I live and I think Captain Morgan is more cost effective.

The Captain Morgan logo is perhaps one of the most recognizable logos in the entire world. It is hard to argue with the success of the image and the brand identity that the logo on the bottle has generated.

The standard 750 ml bottle is easy to grip, pour and store on any shelf. Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum looks amber in the glass, yet flashes yellow under the light. The aroma is very pleasant smell of rum and vanilla with light accents of cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg.

It is ideal for a rum, in my opinion. When I sipped the Captain Morgan Original Spiced, I noticed the light astringency within the rum. There is also a firm vanilla presence that I love. My feeling is that the flavour profile makes it decent for sipping on alone, but is exceptionally wonderful in a mixed drink.

It is suggested that the first rum was created on the island of Barbados. Light rums have sweet and subtle flavors, while dark rums (generally aged longer) have a richer and more pronounced flavor. not my favorite, but my family loves it! Simply put this isn’t the best rum, but it’s great to have it around when throwing a party as it seems to be a good rum for partygoers.

I find the price to be reasonable and doable.

Just as the title says…it keeps the regular classic Malibu flavor, but you can tell it contains more alcohol. I really enjoy this product because I like the sip drinks, not take shots. This way I can have less drinks and still get to feel a good buzz, minus all the sugar of the regular Malibu.

I really enjoy this rum! The bottle looks very inviting which is why I tried it. I love that it goes down real smooth. Once I did I will definitely be drinking more of it. I would recommend this product to others especially if you do not like a strong liquor taste but will give you a buzz this is the one for you.

Bought this Rum at Costco in Hawaii while vacationing with some family friends. Wanted to try something local. I am so glad I did. 2 of us finished the bottle in one week, having it on the rocks while watching the sunsets.

When we got back to the mainland, we found it at Total Wine, I have bought 2 more bottles in the last year. It is smooth and flavorful, and was a total suprise. It is like drinking a fine scotch only better.

We grew fond of Koloa Rums after touring their distillery on Kauai. Total Wine stocks some of the Rum from Koloa.

Well it’s only the best dark rum ever made. Goes well with dark and stormy’s, hot toddies, and anything else you can dream up. Being gluten-free, I often replace it with whiskey in cocktail recipes. It’s a wonderful substitute and other people then want to try because it is different and interesting! Give it a shot!.

This rum is too sweet and vanilla-y for me. Upon opening the bottle, I immediately thought I had purchased a flavored rum, but there is no indication on the bottle. Instead you get vague terms like “blonde” that don’t indicate that this is more than a white rum – I would have preferred some semblance to the taste profile.

I have tried it neat and mixed (horrible in a daiquiri) and can’t find a place I really like it. I even tried it for drinker who prefers a more sugary, fruity drink and the combination of vanilla with basic cocktail ingredients didn’t work.

I prefer something like Plantation 3 Star for daiquiris, so maybe I’m just boring.

This is the reason I love rum. Sip this if you pour this in a drink Ernest Hemingway will roll over in his grave. I freeze the bottle so it won’t get watered down on the rocks. Only complaint is bottle is deceptive, weighs a ton but mainly glass, give me more booze.

I’ve also had the other cask flavors they all don’t disappoint.

I don’t really like that much, but some people may like it. it doesnt have that typical variety of tastes in a rum and it leaves the taste of sirup when you sip it. I think there are more better choices out there in the market.

I previously reviewed this and gave it 5 stars. Now I am rethinking that. Something about the flavor/taste is just too “dirty” to really enjoy sipping it. I don’t want to give anyone the wrong idea, but there’s something about the flavor that is very reminiscent of anti-freeze from a radiator that has overheated and burnt, a sickeningly cloyingly sweet smell.

The flavor also almost has a reminiscence to that of a cola (soda). I can tell however that the rum used in this seems to be pretty decently good quality. Something else I found out – this is not really “real” black strap rum.

It’s made from a regular rum and they add only a little bit of rum made from black strap molasses, and then add some artificial flavors and caramel coloring. It was mostly marketing from the company to compete with Meyer’s Dark Rum.

There are a couple of other niche distilleries that make rum made from actual black strap molasses, but these rums end up clear in color. (These include Thomas Tew Widows Walk and Warship Reserved Black Strap, in case anyone was curious).

I love how my breath smells from this rum. The intoxicating vanilla aroma awakens my senses like an erupting volcano of sweet rich creamy lava. then it slowly calms & soothes my taste buds. and carries me away into an enlightened state of Zen.

This is the darkest, thickest, most opaque black Rum you’ll ever find. I love it straight. I love it over ice. for a lighter experience. I love it with morning Coffee or mixed with Coca-Cola. This is what the original Rums of the West Indies looked like.

dark and robust. This is Rum in its natural and classical state. with 100% pure sugar cane molasses. This is similar to the Rum that early New England settlers fought for when they rebelled against the Britian’s Molasses Act of 1733.

When I share this rum with a friend or on a first date. it never disappoints.

Almost has a taste like a high quality maple syrup. Packed with flavor, in a natural way. This is what a black strap molasses rum SHOULD taste like. Great price for this level of good quality. Has very slight sugar cane grassiness in the background of the flavor, which I regard as a good thing.

A little bit sweet, but definitely not in an unnatural way. You will be hard pressed to be able to find another rum on the aisle that’s like this one. Both for mature tastes AND bold flavor.

To be honest I don’t think I’ve ever actually tried rum before (yes, really). It was strong yet not too overpowering when taken straight. But here comes the pineapple juice and when mixed it tastes fresher – with a different kind of sweetness lingering in mouth.

Mind, the coconutty hint kind of disappears in the pineapple so straight might actually provide a better, more full taste experience of this Bacardi drink. I’ve singlehandedly worked my way through about a quarter of the bottle but I believe this drink is best left for a special occasion.

As many people know. There is an alternative brand that do a similar drink. But honestly by a mile this is much nicer. It does not have that overpowering sugary taste I’ve had in the past and doesn’t impact flavour at all! The drink itself is very very smooth and goes great with pineapple juice with blended ice! Or a good fail safe of Coca Cola! Honestly so impressed and have already ordered another one.

Was so happy to see that Total Wine and More had the Black Cherry Rum in Stock. It seems that now that we don’t have liquor stores in Washington and have to rely on grocery stores to purchase liquor it was been decided by someone that they do not have enough shelf space for more flavors of this brand.

My favorite drink with this is a shot of Black Cherry Rum, 1/2 shot of regular Rum and Coke. Its the best after work drink to sit out on the deck and relax from the day.

By far the best flavored rum I have ever tried. Smooth without a harsh alcohol after taste. Mixes great with coke to give you that old fashioned lunch counter cherry coke taste.

Bacardi is first of all quality, and Bacardi black is also a pleasant sweet taste with notes of wood. Of all the types of this rum, only black can I use in its pure form, it is the mildest of all. I just hate cola, so I choose only those drinks that you can drink without mixing.

Naturally, I can’t drink a lot, after all, it has a fortress of 40%, but I can quite allow a couple of servings with ice to raise my mood. A significant advantage of Bacardi black is that after using it there is almost no hangover.

Due to the nature of the production technology, it has a minimum of harmful toxic compounds causing a hangover. (I worked as a bartender for 3 years and am well acquainted with the production technologies of most alcoholic drinks, and especially my favorites) If it is bad the morning after rum, it is most likely a fake, so to speak made inKirov in podval.

I always keep a bottle of Bacardi black in the house, because black rum is a part of my favorite tiramisu dessert, and I cook it quite often. I don’t like other types of black rum, because it carries a lot of alcohol, and the taste is not the same.

But Bacardi black has a pleasant aroma and caramel flavor.

First rum I ever bought to make my own eggnog—and it was great. I like it dark and strong in my nog, and prefer it over Kraken that way. Though it’s technically faux-nog, since I make it without eggs or dairy.

Ok, I have lots of liquor, but I go through it extremely slow savoring it for celebratory moments. That is supposed to be a preface for what I’m going to say next. That is, I remembered liking Bacardi 151 the other day when I was in TW.

Upon looking for it I found nothing so I asked a rep over there and almost got laughed at. Had no idea Bacardi had stopped making this. They had 2 other 151’s, but they were both dark so instead I picked up a bottle of this.

I was curious about it and usually find Cuban style rums to my liking, not to mention the 750ml bottle was right around 10 bucks (not so bad to try something; in fact, look at what some of the samplers cost).

So when I got around to drinking some of my purchases, I was pretty amazed at the taste. A rare few of my liquors I sip straight from the rocks, but most I mix or pour some coke in with. This made an amazing rum and coke I must say.

I can’t say anything tasted as good except maybe Henessey. I sip some of this soon too and come back to edit my review if it seems noteworthy. Regardless, I’ll be buying a bigger bottle the next time I’m over that way.

The molasses and the rum just do miracles in my opinion. There was one poor review for this, but it’s understandable. That person tried to get the same flavor from a different product, I never tasted what that person did.

It’s easy to get disappointed in something when you’re already biased.

Gleichzeitig bietet er eine perfekte Würze und Tiefe. Geschmacklich überzeugt er auf ganzer Linie, und auch optisch sieht die Flasche sehr ansprechend aus. Hochwertig, Edel und mit goldenen Akzenten, mausert sich dieser Rum schnell zum Highlight in der eigenen Bar zu Hause.

Lasst euch nicht vom Preis abschrecken ! Dieser Rum ist definitiv den doppelten Preis eines normalen Millonarios wert.

Er hat einen festen Platz in meiner Samlung gefunden und sobald die Flasche leer ist, kommt er definitiv auf die Nachbestellliste. Wem der Preis etwas zu hoch ist, macht aber auch nichts mit dem kleinen Bruder Ron Millonario 15 Jahre Solera nichts falsch, den ich auch emfehlen kann.

Mich erinnert er ein bischen an den Zaya – der jedoch noch deutlich präsentere Vanille Aromen bietet. Ansonsten der schon beschriebe Mix: süß, fruchtig, Rosinen, etwas kräftig und leicht holzig. Von daher von Allem ein gutes Gesamtpaket, plus eben die spezielle Vanille, bei der sich die Geister scheiden.

The rum is really an amber or gold rum. The depth of flavor makes it perfect for mixed drinks like a Cuba Libre or just neat.

I have tried rum from all over the Caribbean! The only thing that compares to it is a rum from St. Lucia that I cannot find in the states. I bought this back in 1998 for my grandfather the first time I went to the Caribbean and it has been tried and true ever since.

I am not a rum drinker. I got this as a Christmas Gift from a great friend in Los Angeles. My wife said, “crack the bottle and have a sip! If Geoff sent this then you know its great” Just for background – Geoff is normally the go to guy for anything Bourbon, Scotch and Wine – not rum, so I was a little surprised thinking this was a gag gift or the rum version of cheap Mescal.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I tasted this rum. This rum is perfectly aged and perfectly suited for sipping and enjoying a cigar. I highly recommend this rum.

This is a refined, elegant rum. The nose and palate are a dry, warm and soft integration of molasses, caramel, vanilla, banana and baking spices. There is a hint of sherried rancio in the aftertaste.

Try this rum in a warmed brandy snifter. Mix if you must but say it was an accident.

The best flavors in a sipping rum comes during all the parts of the taste process. Brugal 1888 starts out beautiful but ends very harsh. I don’t mind a little punch in a sipper but this one has more contrast.

It jumps from complex and sweet to moonshine burn very abruptly. This rough ending does not bode well for a relaxing drink. It will have to be tempered with a mixer.

Not a typo in the title…this rum burns the palate. We could smell, but not taste, the coconut. Would recommend this more as a mixer rather than straight. We gave this two stars for two reasons: we like the packaging and we are Bruno Mars fans.

For much less burn and more coconut flavor, try the coconut rums from Siesta Key or Koloa.

Simply delicious. I never went for flavored rums, etc. because I don’t like artificial ingredients. But this product is natural and really good. Highly recommend. Even a simple cocktail really rocks with this added.

I tried this for the first time at a bar and I had to pick up bottles for myself. The taste is perfect if you love coconut and don’t want to add any other mixers. I only drink this on the rocks and its one of the best coconut rums out there.

I read that it is aged in whiskey barrels so it’s the best of both worlds! Definitely my go too whenever I see it at the bars and at home!.

Several years ago my wife & I went to Puerto Rico for work and a mini-vacation and discovered a rum I had previously (and admittedly snobbishly) overlooked. Apparently the locals we were around in San Juan drank Don Q instead of the Big B.

After blind testing the two companies’ silver rums side by side, there was a clear winner to my palate – Don Q. Since then I’ve kept bottles of it in my home bar for anything calling for a silver Puerto Rican rum.

I bottle it for my house Daiquiri & Mojito recipes, blended 1:1 with Denizen 3. I use to blend it 1:1 with Probitas for Daiquiris & Mojitos, but found the Denizen 3 to add a great twist without overpowering funk.

Don Q Cristal is also half of my base rum for Coquito at Christmas. I blend it 50/50 with Don Q Gold. Cristal is also good for sipping neat on a warm day, but I recommend adding ice to water it down, since it’s 80 proof.

No need to tame the octane on this one. Let the flavors brighten your afternoon.

Don Q Cristal is clear, with extremely tiny sediment specks. The alcohol legs are uniform. The aroma is of very light molasses and oak. The flavor is of those elements, with present alcohol. The body is medium, and Don Q Cristal finishes moderately long.

I agree with what others have said. This is VERY smooth and for me – maybe others have same issue – it has no smell/odor. Whenever someone mixes Bacardi rum and hands it to me – I get sick. I’m not joking – don’t know what it is but the smell of it in anything just hits me in the stomach.

Not this – I’ve been drinking it ever since going to Puerto Rico and it is the drink of choice by folks on the islands. Use to be only way to get it was to bring it back from the Islands – but not for the past few years.

My favorite pool drink – mixing it with a tall glass of ice and Diet Dr. Pepper Cherry/Vanilla soda or the lime flavor.
