20 Best Dandruff Shampoo For Teenagers (2023 Updated)

This is the only product that works for my scalp issues. I feel like it doesn’t dry anything out and doesn’t ruin my hair either. I’ve tried SOOOO many dandruff products and this is the best one out of them all! I’ve had dandruff all my life and this is my holy grail.

I’ve even had to go as far as putting a prescribed topical ointment for my dandruff and even that didn’t help me. It’s honestly crazy how some things can have the same ingredients as another but one work better.

Maybe theirs just has a better concentration of the specific active ingredient or something idk but this is a yes.

I had such high hopes for this brand. I suffered from seborrheic dermatitis ever since I was little. So not only did I have the dandruff and the dry, itchy scalp, I also have chunks of dead skin coming off my head.

It sounds gross and it was, so I was REALLY hoping this would get rid of it all. It did help with the itchiness and the dandruff, but not the seborrheic dermatitis. I still had the chucks and I still had some dandruff.

But it did improve my situation, just very slightly. Sadly, it did not work for me and I will not be purchasing it again.

LOVE First, well, yea, my scalp can get kind of dry and if I ignored it, someone might say I had dandruff 😉 This is the only shampoo I’ve found that actually works AND doesn’t smell like the Heisenberg high school rolling chemistry lab! But, there’s a “holy grail” product bonus, I also use it on my face.

Don’t lather, just leave it as gel to sit for 3-5 minutes, my skin is as exfoliated and glowing as it would be if I hadn’t skipped a day or two of my full beauty routine. Please be careful though, my skin may be less sensitive than yours so please take my recommendation as a “this works really well for me, you should consider and decide for yourself if it’s right for you try” instead of “everyone is doing it and I promise nothing bad will ever happen if you do it too”.

I’ve been using this shampoo for over 3 years now, so I thought I’d leave a review with my extensive experience using it. First of all, this shampoo completely clears up my dandruff (itchiness/flakiness etc.

), which after all, is the point, right? Sometimes I will run out and use my partners shampoo (also cruelty free, no SLS/parabens etc. ), which is always a mistake as the dandruff always comes back almost immediately.

But again, as soon as I’m back on the Jason train, it disappears! When I initially started using it, it took around 1 month for it to take effect and clear up my dandruff. 1 month for me is around 8-10 washes (2 per week).

I had already been using natural shampoo for years so I didn’t get any of the ‘greasiness’ that some other people have complained about getting (which you will always get initially if this is your first time trying natural shampoo!!).

The only thing I don’t like about this shampoo is that is doesn’t lather all that well. It’s pretty thick and can be difficult to spread around your hair, I often find myself using double the amount to coat my full head (and I only have mid-length hair, I can’t imagine if it was long!).

In saying that, once it’s on there and I’ve re-wet it a couple of times, it still does a good job at cleaning my hair. I most often get away with only washing it once a week, without it getting to greasy the day before I wash it, so I don’t deal with the thickness problem too much.

To summarise: 1. If this is your first time using natural shampoo, your hair will be greasier than normal to begin with. Your hair will be used to getting all of its natural oils stripped from it, whereas natural shampoo gently cleans your hair, and leaves you natural oils alone.

Persist with it and I guarantee soon enough, you’ll be able to go days without washing your hair and still have it feeling fresh and healthy. 2. This shampoo really does work. I struggled with chronic dandruff for so long and tried almost everything to alleviate it, I would never go without this now.

A miracle worker? Most definitely.

I have suffered with severe breakouts and painful bumps on my scalp for about 2 years now. I moved from the desert to a humid climate, so now I have to dry my hair before bed, whereas before I could sleep with wet hair like I did my whole life.

Because of this, my scalp developed bumps and pustules, and due to that, I began an issue with dermatilomia which made the bumps worse. After a year of using everything from Head and Shoulders to Nizoral to prescription Ketocanozole, I still had bumps.

I was on my last resort and I realized I hadn’t tried the last treatment shampoo for these types of issues. The FIRST night that I tried this shampoo, even without drying my hair (to test the effectiveness) I woke up with the pustules that were there minimized greatly overnight! I then tested 2 more nights without drying my hair and it continued to get even better (which also encouraged less picking).

Then, last night I tried drying my hair and this morning I had NOTHING! I could cry! I can brush my hair without it hurting and feel like I finally can go out without being embarrassed of my hairline.

I am so happy! This product is extremely well priced, as the Nizoral is around $20 and less effective. I also am really happy with the scent! My hair has smelled like chemicals or a dirt-like smell since I’ve been trying everything, and now it smells so nice and fresh, somewhat lemony (which just so happens to be my favorite scent).

If you are suffering with any type of scalp issue (of course, talk to your doctor first to ensure that you are not suffering with something serious) but if they ok you using over the counter products, please try this shampoo! I just use a normal conditioner on the ends of my hair without touching my scalp, and my hair is left silky and smooth! Most treatment shampoos make my hair frizzy and dry.

I love Selsun for my sensitive scalp (for seborrheic dermatitis, not dandruff) and usually use the regular or medicated formulas with pyrithione zinc or selenium sulfide but I’m not the biggest fan of the pale blue or vibrant green (in the medicated) colors.

I bought this one without reading the active ingredient is salicylic acid. This formula is much more sudsy than the other formulas and my scalp fares OK on it (if my scalp is about 95% good on the other formulas, this one makes it about 80%), but I find it extremely drying on my body.

After showering, the skin on my back feels extremely tight and I’d have to moisturize there, whereas that’s not a concern with the other formulas (or most other shampoos, I’d say). However, maybe that’s exactly what you want if you’re suffering from bacne! My hair also seems the tiniest bit drier, but that could just be the current arid weather.

This formula might be ok for other folk, depending on your need, but I’m going back to one of the other active ingredients.

I can’t stand the smell of other selsun blue products so I decided to give this a try and after only two uses I’m already regretting it! It has not helped with itching at all, and it is so incredibly drying on my hair.

After washing I have massive knots in my hair even with using plenty of good conditioner. If you have long hair I definately would not recommend this. Unless you enjoy spending extra hours picking knots out of your hair!.

I have never heard of this brand before, but my sister & I both have dry scalp/dandruff issues so we are always looking for products that might help. The typical store/name brands only help slightly & are most likely full of chemicals.

This Avalon Organics has been great in the month we have used it! It is organic, non GMO, not tested on animals & has natural essential oils! I can smell the tea tree & to me it smells somewhat like chamomile also.

It’s not the greatest scent but it doesn’t bother either of us. It works really well for us! She has long hair & mine is short, but we are Native American & have very thick course hair. It removes lots of flakes, leaves our hair feeling soft & moisturized & has really stopped the itch overall! It’s a great natural dandruff conditioner solution.

So I was using a certain shampoo brand for about a year, and over that time I began to have some issues. I started having really bad issues with dandruff, greasy hair and a scalp that ALWAYS hurt. This works so well. It does the job. I use this every once in a while. It lathers my hair really well. And I love the smell of this. I don’t think it needs improvement. It removes all of the dandruff.

This stuff works after one use. After second use, no more itchy scalp. Downside is the this shampoo is very drying and will literally will leave my hair “ squeaky clean”. Meaning too much moisture is stripped from my hair.

I have 3A curly hair, and I need moisture. But at the same time, my scalp gets extremely itch some months. So I do wish they had something not so harsh, but for the purpose of the shampoo, it definitely works!.

So I don’t have dandruff. I have to share how else this product is good! I developed chin acne from wearing a mask this year. They were these little bumps and they were so excessive. I tried usual a acne treatments, changing my diet, yadda yadda.

My sister had the same thing going on with her. She went to a esthetician and they told her its fungal acne! They told her to purchase this and use it as a face mask. wet your face, apply a small lather, leave on for 3 minutes tops, and rinse.

Use this treatment 2 a week until your acne is gone. Her acne was gone in about 2 weeks. So I gave it a try, I was desperate! I did it 4 days in a row, an I let it sit for longer than 3 minutes. Chapped my skin.

I spent days trying to treat it and neutralize it. I then tried this again, but followed direction. The acne went away completely. My chin is finally cleared. So my suggestion is, follow the directions haha.

but seriously, Selsun Blue Moisturizing shampoo works for fungal acne. If you are desperate I would give it a try. Those hair follicles on your face need healing sometimes, and this helps. Shaving it off won’t do justice either, FYI.

I am so impressed with this product! I was suffering from really bad dry scalp. I would wash my hair with Head and Shoulders but wouldn’t get any relief. I’d still have flakes after washing my hair. This has been a game changer for me.

I am a 53 yo female and have been struggling with itching/flaking for a couple years now, which is new for me. I used the balancing shampoo, restoring serum and soothing elixir for about 3 months, washing 1-2x per week, and have found little to no lasting relief from itching or flaking in that time.

While the restoring serum really helps soothe the itching immediately, it has persisted beyond the initial relief and I have not seen any reduction in the flakes that fall when I scratch my itchy head.

I use a different shampoo for the ends of my hair. I never tried this on my entire hair so I’m not sure how it makes your actual hair feel once it dries but i will say that my scalp feels better than ever.

absolutely works for seborrheic dermatitis and fungal acne. it is drying to hair and skin so a conditioner (or moisturizer if using it as a skin cleanser for fungal acne) is needed. the bottle is small and when using on the scalp, the bottle gets used up quickly.

annoying that they make such a small bottle; it actually creates more plastic waste to go through small bottles faster than it would to go through a larger bottle that isn’t significantly more plastic.

please make much larger bottles! the smell is decent; not great or bad. would be nice if they made different scents too or fragrance-free. if using for seborrhea, you need to use it several times a week, pretty much forever.

depending on the cause of it, it never actually goes away; this product just controls the overgrowth and subsequent scaling/flaking/itching, because that yeast is something you will always have on your skin.

Listen, ever since covid my hair and scalp have been a nightmare. I never, ever had issues with my scalp before covid. Welp, here we are. Itchy scalp and hair jumping out of the follicle as fast as possible.

Nizoral is great. A little goes a long way. Works so well to calm my scalp and the flakes I did have disappeared within the first week. But, it won’t work very well if you just shampoo it in and then wash out immediately.

You’re going to have to work it into the scalp and let it sit there for awhile. I have curly hair, so I totally understand what the other reviewers mean about dry and frizzy hair when using this. But, try to just get it on your scalp, not the mids/ends of your hair.

I try to coat the length of the hair with a heavy conditioner while this sits on my scalp. I know it’s not always easy, but it will help with the drying. I also had to switch conditioners from curly girl method friendly silicone free brands to silicones and it has helped a lot.

My GP recommended this product. There is a display box for it on the store shelf, which you need to take to the counter at the prescription area, in order to acquire the product itself. I was recommended to use it twice weekly for four weeks.

This is only the second time I’ve used it and my itchy scalp is no more, as well as dandruff banished. Not much product is required at all, it is very potent and consistency is fairly runny and pink in colour, so I use a ten cent piece worth and I have mid-length to long hair.

Given its price, this is a good thing! You need to leave it in contact with your scalp 3-5 minutes for effectiveness. If you also have dry hair, you may want to consider a conditioner, after using it, at least, a leave-in conditioner for the ends, as this shampoo leaves your hair “squeaky clean” (I have oily hair).

It has a very strong scent as well, depending on your taste this may or may not appeal. I am very pleased so far.

Have had fairly bad dandruff for as long as I can remember (now aged 55) and have tried every shampoo and natural remedy I could find with out success. Until now. I almost gave up on this product too, but persisted long enough to notice a gradual improvement.

Took about a month using twice weekly but gradually worked. Scalp now clean as a whistle, yay! One star off for delayed effectiveness. Also, be sure to use in conjunction with anti dandruff conditioner as it dries out hair severely – I used ‘Head n Shoulders’.

I have been using Zincon shampoo for about 15 years now. Before I tried it, I always had flakes in my hair, in my eyebrows, and alongside my nose. Quite naturally, even when I was dressed to the ”nines”, I always a little inferior to the people around me.

Thankfully that all changed when I started using ZINCON. With proper use, you never have to feel ”under-dressed” again. The flakes have stopped and the itching has gone away.

I have only used this once so this review is based off this one time. I have to say , I do not have dandruff but I do have a very dry scalp. I am an African American woman with a lot of hair. It is not course but it is thick.

The product did smell good but My scalp was still dry after the wash. This products lather is lovely , I washed my hair in the tub and it looked like I had taken a bubble bath so it had very rich lather.

Aside from that, the overall graphic design of the product is very appealing to the eye. The green let me know it was healthy for my scalp. Overall, If possible I would include more oils into this product.

I’m not 100% sure I would recommend this product I will try this the next time I wash my hair.

This is the best dandruff shampoo I’ve ever used. For the last year I’ve been fighting dry scalp and dandruff. Used like 5 different shampoos and nothing else worked. As soon as I step out of the shower I can feel the difference.

A miracle potion I swear. Had itchy scalp with dandruff for TWO YEARS before I found this magical shampoo. Not a flake in sight, and I never itch anymore. It took 4 uses over a span of about 6 weeks.

I followed the instructions left it on my scalp for a few minutes and rinsed and repeated it. I’m in awe and had recommended this to all my friends! Didn’t even get through the whole bottle yet and I’m completely healed.

I’m so happy and btw I only used it on my scalp the rest of my hair I used my Paul Mitchell tea tree shampoo and then conditioner my whole head with the Paul Mitchell tea tree conditioner. The Paul Mitchell did nothing for me by itself so again this stuff is simply magic!.

My dermatologist recommended using two different shampoos and alternating them weekly. He suggested one should be a zinc shampoo. You can find many of those in stores BUT NONE fragrance free. I cannot tolerate the odors of the others and this has NONE! Vanicream zinc is the best and I will use it forever.

This shampoo does the trick for me. I have seborrhoeic dermatitis on my scalp and this helps tremendously with the itching and flaking. It is hard to find a shampoo that is fragrance free to address this issue and VANICREAM does not disappoint.

I don’t even know where to begin about this product it’s one of my absolute favorite go to’s. I use this product way more in the winter when my hair seems to be more dry and I have my dandruff. The shampoo is amazing alone but once you use the conditioner with it it’s absolutely phenomenal.

The conditioner can be used to so much more than just conditioner. i’ve used it on burns, dogs and even for peoples rashes. The tea tree oil really really does work magic.

So far so good! I started using this about 3-4 weeks ago and I’m impressed so far. I use this and the therma and I wash every other day. I used to have such a hard time getting my hair to stay styled and frizz free.

But now, it stays styled all’s day without me even having to straighten it. I just blow dry and go. The only thing I’ve recently changed in my hair care routine Is getting rid of other shampoos and conditioners, and adding these two thermafuse products.

I have used this shampoo for years. It is a very good product for dry flaky scalp. The online drugstore has the best prices of this product. They have the best service and fast shipping. Highly recommend the product and the store.

Zincon is the best! I had to buy 7 in order to get free shipping but the price was cheaper than other places I had checked plus it’s hard to find. I used to get it from Amazon but they don’t carry it and it was cheaper than what I had been paying on Amazon.

I’ve had to use this for most of my life due to hereditary dry scalp, and sensitive scalp. I’ve used many other medicated shampoos, but nothing has worked as well as this one. The scent is very strong, but works great to keep my scalp healthy and it doesn’t irritate it.

Fortunately, I’m able to use any conditioner of my choice, for the most part. This helps to cover the medicated scent. I recommend using this if you have tried other medicated shampoos, but are still looking.

Used this shampoo for my drumy scalp. It worked well for just about two months. After that it stopped working on keeping my moisturized, an I had to swap and use a different shampoo. But this happens to me with various different types of shampoos.

They all work on my scalp for a couple weeks to months, and they I have to switch to different type. I still recommend this shampoo.

I’ve been using Niucoco for over a year now and I gotta say, this shampoo works wonderfully for me. For the first time in my life, I am able to go four or five days without washing, something I was always too greasy to do.

This shampoo cleans without drying out and leaves my hair feeling healthy and shiny without using any harsh chemicals. I feel good about using on my kids too because the ingredients are all super safe.

Thank you for making a product that performs REALLY WELL and also has safe ingredients. That combo is tough to come by!.

I am so grateful for this shampoo and conditioner duo! Has literally SAVED my hair. My hair has never looked fuller and as hydrated as it has with Niu Coco! I am extremely loyal to this brand and refuse to wash my hair if I don’t have this brand.

These products are absolutely amazing! Not only does my hair feel super soft and silky after using them, but the sweet coconut smell is so long-lasting!! Makes me feel like I’m back on a beach. in love!.

I have tried it all. About a year or so ago I tried a tar shampoo for my scalp psoriasis and it made my hair brittle and break off at the root. As someone with long hair it was pretty heartbreaking to think I had to choose between long healthy hair and a flake free calm scalp.

This shampoo gives me everything. My hair feels clean, deranged, and hydrated. My scalp is flake-free when I use this regularly (when I skip more than a few days at a time some flakes come back, which is even more evidence of how amazing this stuff works).

My broken hair is healing and growing, all thanks to this shampoo. also, for those hesitant because of the price- I AM CHEAP!!!!! and never thought I would buy a small shampoo bottle for over $20, but this bottle lasts me about 3-4 months! It’s honestly an amazing value.

I love this shampoo and conditioner. At first when I bought it I thought it was ridiculously expensive for the size, but after using it I don’t mind paying for it. The bottle lasted me about 3 months and I have long thick hair.

Nothing else has ever worked for my dandruff and if it has, it stopped working after a while of using the product. This product kept working and my dandruff was HORRIBLE. It would look like it snowed in my head very noticeable.

This got rid of it 100%. The only bad things are I think it might have been causing me some hair loss, and it takes forever to rinse out. I don’t know if it’s just me but I have to take a long time rinsing everything out or else my hair seems like it sticks together and has a film over it or something.

For that I give it 4 stars.

During my pregnancy and after I gave birth to my child who is now 3 years old I had really bad dandruff. It was soooo noticible and itchy. So embarrasing! 1st I tried the green tea shampoo which did help, but I am one of the ones that don’t like to stick with just a certain type or brand.

I tried many other shampoos that didn’t help. Only made it worse to the point that dandruff even got to the hairline on my forehead. Even much more embarrasing. I started using tea tree oil and it didn’t seem to work so I thought there was no reason to go back to using tea tree shampoo again.

I wanted to give this one a try after reading the reviews. I am amazed and have recommended it a million times. It worked since the 1st wash. It’s like a miracle. I recommend it 100000000%.
