20 Best Dairy Free Protein Shakes (2023 Updated)

I do like the ingredients. I purchased the variety box and my biggest gripe about that is I couldn’t choose the flavors that I wanted to try. I don’t want to spend 30/box on a flavor I’ve never tasted.

The variety box comes with dark chocolate, cookies and cream, and cold brew. The dark chocolate is the creamiest with least after taste. CNC, slightly watery and cold brew, the most watery. All have an after taste you kind of just have to get over.

Bottom line, too expensive to keep trying even though I’m dairy intolerant and these ingredients are the best option. Taste is still the driving force.

for the price, i was hoping to be blown away. $40 for 12 shakes is super expensive. i know vegan shakes are more expensive, but these have cane sugar and natural flavors. cheap ingredients. i’ve tried the cookies and cream less and the strawberry banana.

the cookie wasn’t bad flavor wise, but i wish it used cacao and again with the sugar and natural flavors. the strawberry banana tastes so artificial like bubblegum. i couldn’t even drink them. tried to give them to a friend instead of throw them out but even my friend didn’t like the taste :/ it’s really hard to find a good tasting protein that’s vegan with good ingredients.

this wasn’t it for me.

I had heard lots of great things about this brand, one of my favorite TikTok influencers recommended it. Upon tasting it first time, it immediately tasted almost stale. The consistency is very thin, which is fine, however it doesn’t really give that “protein shake “ consistency that I like.

There’s not much taste, I think I would like the chocolate flavor much better though. I really appreciate the fact that this brand is vegan.

I would note at the onset that we are enormous fans of OWYN’s products which he have purchased in quantify for some time. However, the recent batch of 35g protein chocolate shakes has left us confused.

The consistency was very sludge-like and not at all similar to the silky and smooth products we are used to receiving. It’s unclear whether or not this was a change in formula or some mishap but in any event it’s not drinkable.

We have never had this happen with other flavors of the 20g or 35 g product.

These products don’t make me sick or gassy, I can even drink them first thing early in the morning without any negative outcome. I’ve tried Dark Chocolate and that’s my go-to protein drink! Some would say it’s chalky but IMO it’s not and the flavor is great.

Banana Strawberry, on the other hand, doesn’t taste that good BUT it’s great in smoothies. I like to blend it with strawberries or mixed berries and add a little bit vanilla extract and it tastes great.

My favorite flavor is the vanilla bean. It has been difficult to find plant based protein and vegan lactose free shakes especially ones that taste good lol and I am happy I found Evolve on Home Deliveries USA.

I first tried a four pk through Home Deliveries USA fresh I believe but the price per carton is a better deal. They come to a little over 2 per bottle which isnt bad. I like to order these when I cant get to GNC to buy their vanilla green vegan shakes.

Theyre great for a small meal or snack replacement and my nutritionist approves! Ive tried the double chocolate flavor when the vanilla was out of stock and I didnt really like it as the chocolate taste was too rich for me and I try to avoid chocolate as a migraine sufferer.

The shakes definitely taste better cold but it does come in handy that they are non perishable as long as you dont open them. I would recommend these but would buy a smaller size first to make sure you like the taste before buying the case.

First of all, There are a lot of people complaining about the taste. Understand, this is a “plant based” product. It will not have any of those artificial sweeteners & flavor that we have grown accustomed to.

Plants aren’t all that tasty to begin with but this shake is very good. I am lactose intolerant so My go-to shakes were GNC’s Lean Green chocolate shakes. They were 170 calories but obviously these are less in calories, price & taste better.

This product taste like chocolate almond milk, similar to standard chocolate milk but not quite the same. If you’re looking for a healthier option to kick cravings and a sweet tooth, this will definitely satisfy you.

If you’re not sure, run to your local gas station to try a single one or grocery store that carry a 4pk.

I had been drinking the vanilla ready to drink shake for well over a year. It was the best tasting of ANY shake. For the past three months could not find it anywhere in stores or online. The company said because of Covid, they had problems getting the product out.

Well, I just received my new order, this is now February 20,2022, and the first thing I notice is the new label which states. “New Look. New Great Taste”. Well, they should have left it alone, because it was the best tasting shake before they changed it.

The ingredients are not the same as the other ones I always drank. They left out the Monk Fruit, now has just Stevia, and a few other ingredients are different. It has a terrible aftertaste now! I can hardly swallow it! It’s not as thick like a shake should be.

It’s much thinner. I don’t like that about it either. I’m very sad, because this was my “go to” meal replacement when I’m on the run or just don’t feel like cooking. So sad that they had to change it! I won’t be buying it anymore.

I usually like to leave positive reviews; but I simply could not get past the flavor on this Green foods true vitality plant protein shake. I thought maybe the product is spoiled. But then I read other reviews and saw that other people had commented on the flavor as well.

I never did detect vanilla. All I noticed was whatever flavors were in there, it tasted more like something had gone bad.

Wow this is amazing with the stats and the price. It offers plant based protein, fiber, probiotics, and greens all in one so if I have two per day I can stop taking my prenatal vitamins and probiotic pills and save even more money! If you blend this with just unsweetened vanilla almond milk, it taste like pancake batter but its still not too bad.

However, the next time I blended this with almond milk, half a frozen banana, and cinnamon like another person recommended and its very delightful, it almost reminds me of horchata (the spanish rice milk drink)! I can’t wait to blend different fruits with the vanilla and try the chocolate one by them.

This shake is definitely a keeper! Also it does not give me an upset stomach like the whey protein does :).

I can’t handle the vanilla flavor, but this chocolate is pretty good. I always add a little dark cocoa powder to improve the flavor. Because it’s the only kind I can eat, I get pretty tired of just chocolate all the time.

Add a new vegan flavor please! How about coconut? Strawberry?.

I was so skeptical buying this product. Usually plant based protein tears my stomach apart. This not only tastes amazing but I don’t have any stinky (literally) side effects. So far I have used it in my shakes, and protein balls, both delicious! I am going to try oatmeal next! Thank you for creating this product.

The regular chocolate protein was sold out, so, a little begrudgingly, I decided to give this a try. Though I am a proud and happy omnivoure, I was very surprise at how lovely the taste of this was! I liked that it’s a little less sweet than the regular, and enjoyed the slight earthy taste mixed with the chocolate.

I was originally intrigued by this product because I was looking for a protein powder shake that was plant-based. This immediately caught my eye because this is made by a black-owned business and I have started to slowly transition to products that are made by black owned businesses.

When I made the shake for breakfast, I used bananas that are frozen, almond milk, almond butter, and this powder. You will need two scoops of this powder to get the desired flavor. For an extra protein boost, I added chai seeds.

This absolutely had amazing chocolate flavor. This tasted like a actual dessert like a smoothie or a ice cream shake. It was very smooth and very satisfying to the taste. When I drink this for breakfast, I have no desire for a dessert just eat lunch and a sensible dinner.

I was extremely impressed by the chocolate flavor of this brand. Most chocolate flavors do have a chalky taste or a off taste however, this was straight chocolate.

I wanted to try this after reading about it. I made a smoothie with two scoops of powder, half banana, blueberries and oat milk. It was thick and creamy with a strong chocolate flavor but did have a bit of grittiness to it as well as the stevia aftertaste.

However, it has been five hours since I drank it and I am still not hungry. This will be huge in controlling my caloric intake. I am pretty please with this product and will be able to stand the stevia aftertaste.

Am trying the vanilla next.

Best tasting protein shake I have ever had. As a former college basketball athlete I relied heavily on protein shakes to bulk up. Taste was always an issue. I could hardly stomac them until now. This Naturade shake is so good I actually savor it as a treat! Chocolate taste real without that typical fake sweeter that plague so many other brands.

I really wanted to love this protein powder but ended up falling flat! I was immediately drawn to it by the awesome packaging. Secondly, the VEGAN powder was huge plus. I am always looking for new vegan protein powders, working out 6 days a week.

The first try was not a huge hit with taste. Tried it once more the next day after my workout and tasted even worse. It’s SUPER sweet & really chalky. I blended it the second time in my bullet thinking it would thicken it up a bit but sadly it was still watery.

I would not recommend this protein powder unless they change things up.

Anybody who gives this product anything less than a 4 has gotta be biased or being payed or something. As someone whose lactose intolerant I can say that this is the best protein I’ve ever had. It’s gentle on my system, provides plenty of protein, the portion is great, flavor is spot on, and works great as a shake or with pancakes.

I think the GNC price of $45 is reasonable, but the size of the container is misleading for what you actually get. Idk if it’s like coffee and reduces after you open it or what but the half full container is disheartening when you first get it.

Other than that it’s fantastic, go and buy it.

Best vegan protein at a great price. Not chalky and tastes great. Digests easily. Mixes in a blender bottle with water quickly and easily – no caching on the bottom. I’ve tried about 6 other brands previously and now have this one on re-order subscription delivery.

I like really like the taste of this protein powder, compared to other vegan brands it tastes amazing. The texture is smooth and its perfectly sweet, not too much or little. has a bunch of vitamins and its soy free! This was exactly what i was looking for, but unfortunately I’ve noticed if I have it on consecutive days I get really bad stomach cramps.

I’ve never had a problem with any type of protein in the past, so I’m going to assume I’m just sensitive to an added ingredient. Nevertheless, I’m still testing it out because it tastes lovely and I really hope my stomach can adjust.

For now I will stick to having it every few days instead of once a day as planned.

I’ve tried many vegan protein powders and they often have a very earthy flavour and a gritty texture. Free Soul however is smooth and sweet and just delicious! I love it with coconut milk and frozen fruits.

It fills me up in the morning but sets me up in a positive mindset for the day. I’ve been using it for 6 months now and have noticed a difference in my skin and nails particularly. Highly recommended.

A high quality product packed with super healthy ingredients, lovely flavours (vanilla and chocolate are my faves) and mixes very well with almond milk. I use their Free Soul shaker which is brill! Oh and it’s been helping to achieve my weight loss goal, together with a balanced low carb diet.

I have one shake for breakfast as I can’t eat in the morning so that’s handy, and sometimes a second one late afternoon. Customer service is great too so it’s a win win :-).

I have a lot of health problems and a fairly troubled relationship to food. Orgain all-in-one nutritional shakes are often the only foods/drinks I can stand. I typically drink 1-2 every day to replace my breakfast and lunch.

Personally, I find the “creamy chocolate fudge” to be the best flavor. To my taste buds, it’s like drinking chocolate milk or a milkshake. I have also tried vanilla and the strawberry flavor. Vanilla is definitely “the worst” -it’s got a very strong ~vanilla~ taste, a little overwhelming.

and then a weird, chalky aftertaste. The good thing about the vanilla is that it makes a decent base for additives like fruits, veg, and other smoothie ingredients. My only issue with the strawberry flavor is that there’s a bit too much of the vanilla base coming through for me.

I might try adding actual strawberries to punch up the fruity goodness, and get rid of that chalky undertone. I can’t say if Orgain has a flavor that will work out for you. but I would suggest the ‘chocolate fudge’ one for a try.

As for price, honestly, that’s also something I think everyone has to evaluate for themselves. Between mobility problems keeping out of the kitchen, and an eating disorder that has dogged me since college, a higher price for a full, reliable meal replacement has been a no-brainer for me.

My health care team has been absolutely delighted that we’ve finally found a way to ensure a daily intake of nutrients and calories. So the “value” was definitely worth it for me. I have had such good personal results with Orgain that I passed along the brand info to my sister-in-law because my nephew is starting to have adverse reactions to some foods, & while they figure out what’s going on, she can at least keep him fed with something gluten free, soy free, and vegan (she gets the vegan ones for him).

I went to Costco to purchase my protein shakes but they were out of my brand. My daughter recommended the Orgain protein shakes since my grand kids seem to drink the kids version and like them. So upon her recommendation I bought the Orgain Clean Protein chocolate fudge flavored shakes.

My son took one to work as he also drinks protein shakes. He came home the next morning snd told me the Orgain protein shakes were gross and tasted like a barn smells. I didn’t believe him. I took one to the gym for after I work out.

I tasted it and no lie it tasted like the giraffe cage at the zoo smells. I’m not trying to be mean but I’ve tried almost all the protein shakes on the market but this one is absolutely gross. I don’t know what kind of grass they feed their cows but the taste comes out in the shakes.

Will not be purchasing any more products in the future.

My late husband drank Orgain over ten years ago and it greatly helped him when he had cancer; the V. A. oncology nutritionist researched it and was so impressed she did a workshop on it for staff members.

Now, I am dealing with a fairly serious cancer and Orgain is my lifesaver. Not only is it organic (very important to me) but it has the calories and protein I need daily; I usually drink a couple a day in addition to my other healthy eating.

There are more flavors now than I remember and I really enjoy the Smooth Chocolate, Creamy Chocolate Fudge, and the Iced Cafe Mocha. I like both the dairy based and plant based shakes. Very convenient to put in my insulated lunch bag and drink when I’m on the way to appointments.

I have a dairy intolerance and wanted to switch to plant based, I did not like this version of protein it has a very strong pea taste and smells funky. It mixes well with cold liquids, but when added to hot oatmeal for example, becomes clumpy.

I lke this, but I have to hide the taste of pea and stevia with a big tablespoon of cocoa. Then it is fine.
