This is a great option if you need to stock up on valuable protein for emergencies or to save time. It’s great to add to soups and stews, and is wonderful in Italian sauces and in meals like lasagna, stuffed shells, and Mexican dishes like tacos, fajitas, and even on pizzas.

I chill the can, so I can easily remove the fat once I have opened it. I pour off the liquid and heat the meat in a pan, breaking it up just as I would with raw ground beef. If you brown (carmelize) it, the odd canned smell lessens and the beef flavor is enhanced.

The meat is more finely ground than what I normally buy but it was very good in chili. On the suggestion of other reviewers, I also tried this in spaghetti sauce. For that recipe, I added garlic powder to the meat when frying it.

All Keystone canned meats are flavorfull and beyond convenient. I also appreciate that they have nothing in their canned meat except the meat itself and a little bit of salt. My only complaint with the ground beef is that it breaks up into small fragments so that if you want it chunkier you just have to adapt your expectations.

This isn’t the fault of the company, but is inherent in the canning process for the meat. I have serious health issues that have sapped me of most of my strength and stamina. They also require me to not consume highly processed food.

This includes such common things as commercially prepated canned soups. With a can of Keystone meat and a few cans of no salt added vegetables, I am able to make a variety of enjoyable and safe for me to eat soups and casseroles.

It is then sealed up and processed in a pressure cooker until the meat is fully cooked and the canning jar seals. Except that metal cans are used instead of glass canning jars, Keystone meats are processed the same way.

As the meat cooks, it clings to itself. Meanwhile, juices are exuded and fat rendered out. These are what surround the meat when you open the can. DO NOT DIASCARD THEM! They contribute much to the flavor of the meat.

For best results, gently empty the entire content of the can into a deep saucepan. Heat until the fat melts into the juices. Remove from the heat, and break up the meat into pieces. Remove the meat you need to use along with some of the natural juices and prepare you recipe.

I like to refrigerate extra in two containers. One for the meat which I remove to the storage container with a slotted spoon. Then I transfer the juices with the fat into a separate container. Once that is chilled, you can easily skim off any fat you wish to remove.

(I usually remove no more than half of the fat, it carries flavor throughout you dish. ).

Great quality canned meat. Doesn’t look so great upon opening with the fat in there but it cooks up well and is a crowd pleaser, plus the shelf life/exp date is usually 4-5 years out so I keep some of every variety stocked.

With power outages I’ve even been able to mix it with beans or other items and eat it without cooking. Great for survival or long term prepping. Shipping was good too, arrived a day early with no dents in the cans!! That’s rare these days lol.

I really like the taste and quality of this meat. I use to buy the store brand. But as of lately, it just has not been up to my standards. I chose this brand because I looked up the company’s website to see how well there farm was.

Not oily, very light. It tastes very good and I like how I can cook it and there’s not a lot of oil to drain. I actually didn’t drain because there wasn’t any! Small package perfect for just me. when I say it’s light it truly is fresh and easy to cook.

Lacks the smell that others said. I love using it for my chili and tacos.

We have had really good experience with this, and have not got a bad package yet. Some people report gristle and a bad smell. I have not had that once out of 15 packages of the past year. We are a bit particular too.

Maybe it depends on your store location, their source, and how it is handled (kept very cold)? I’d say try it.

This is the best elk burger my husband and I have ever had. It is the right consistency, contains nothing but meat, and the packages are very easy to thaw out in a bowl of hot water, because they don’t leak.

We made a rage with this meat, basically added a bunch of spices, chopped garlic, chopped onion, homemade marinara sauce and did a side of pasta. It came out excellent! My family liked it, and it was a nice change from eating beef.

This ground elk meat made delicious burgers! The meat came in well packaged 1 lb increments that were frozen solid with the dry ice packs. I am confident that I can order in the middle of summer in south Louisiana with no issues, as the thick styrofoam package is well insulated and the dry ice packs keep the packages very cold! I think this is a very good idea for an emergency stash, and hoping it tastes good, too, when the time comes. Meat is one of those things that is harder to keep in a long term shortage situation. I can’t review the product itself, since I haven’t tried it yet.

I ‘m a beginner at prepping and Mountain House fit the bill. I wanted protein in my stock for emergencies. Seeing that it is good for 30 years I figure if I never need it I can pass it down to someone that does.

I have gone camping and tried some of their meal pouches and they were very good. The only thing about the pouches is that it says 2 servings and I could eat the whole thing. I am not a big person at 120 pounds.

Mountain House really stands out when picking up emergency food or camping. I will definitely buy again. I tell all my family and friends this is the best value of protein meals compared to any of the competition.

This is great stuff! I lead wilderness canoe and backpack treks. I’ve been using Mountain House FD Ground Beef for 15 years and it allows me make my own backcountry meals using ingredients off the store shelf (Knorr Pasta or Rice Sides, etc.

) and thus avoid the cost of the much more expensive pre-packaged FD meals. I advise letting it steep 2 minutes longer than the 9 suggested to be sure it has completely rehydrated. And watch for the rare bone fragment.

So I ordered a case of canned hamburger meat a couple weeks ago and I wanted to open a can to test the product prior to ordering another case. I made hamburgers on the BBQ for myself, my wife and my 3 kids WITHOUT telling anyone the burgers were made with canned meat.

Although I prefer the other canned beef (roast beef) , I was impressed with this. Who knew you could can hamburger? I made this with pasta and it was very good. It would probably work well in tacos too.

We bought these over the summer to try on the grill for a get together to save a little time. I usually make my own patties but time ran out. These patties grilled nice and stayed a decent size. They just didn’t taste the greatest at all.

They were kinda rubbery in texture and just had a weird kind of freezer burned taste to them. No one really liked them that much but we were hungry so we at least all ate one. The next day I didn’t feel that great I had an upset stomach.

I can’t say if it was the burgers for sure. My husband couldn’t stop tasting them if he had a burp come up. So I’ve never bought them again. I just prepare my burgers the night before so I don’t run into that issue anymore.

Pretty good and good sized. Great for burgers on the grill and the meat isn’t like mush lol. I’ve had some brands where the middle is mush. These dont do that, So these are prime meat! Good and a little pricey but I find it worth it for grilling burgers.

Cant have cheap meat for those events! I buy these specifically for grill days.

The patties hold together on the grill. I like these much better than buying the cheap frozen patties, which are probably 35% fat. These are good burgers for a good deal!

Ok so, it says minimally processed. It’s beautiful, pink/red but has no smell. Is it real meat? I’ve seen reviews about it being processed and not real. It tasted fine in my meat sauce but it really was odd that it didn’t smell like meat or anything at all.

Wagyu beef, pretty delicious, not much else to say. If your on the fence, try it. As for the transaction, it took 3 days to get to my house, ice was melted and meat was barely cool, and some blood has leaked out of two packages.

Pretty disgusting actually when I opened the box. Threw in freezer immediately and hoped for the best. We’ve eaten it twice so far with no issue. Not blaming SRF, guessing it was Fed Ex issue. Stuff happens.

I just wanted to rate the cowboy steaks. We have not tried the Ground beef brick pack as of this date. I could not erase this star. We were very disappointed with the cowboy steak. We did season the steaks BUT they had no flavor to them along with the texture was questionable.

We cooked them Med/Rare on the weber charcoal grill. This is what was highly recommended by the rep on the phone. Snake River Farms was also recommended by friends.

I used this ground beef in two different ways. First, I made meatballs and served them in tomato sauce over pasta. They came out better than any meatballs I ever made. Second, I made burgers and just seasoned them with garlic, salt, and pepper.

Terrible smelling of Schweidsons signature series: the chuck brisket burger potties. Burgers look pretty, fresh and the color is pink. As soon you open the package terrible invasion of smell comes out of burgers, I don’t know what smell is this.

Heavy, strong, stinks, terrible, bite you. But burgers look good and I put on the grill, you see blood, then after grilled taste ok, no strange, but what is this smell about in pink beautiful burger? It comes down to the quality of meat, temperature, the type of buns, and toppings. As a culinarian, I’ve learned from experience that brisket, short rib, and chuck are a good start to creating the perfect burger.

I don’t like that overpowering the taste of the burger. This was the perfect compromise! SO much flavor packed into this meat. I loved it paired with cheddar and avocado on a light fluffy bun. Even with condiments the meat flavor shone through.

I think we finally found a burger we all like! My 2. 5 year old son even enjoyed a burger all to himself haha. We wanted more! Can’t wait to order some more and try it different ways. We cooked these up on our cast iron skillet with some rosemary sprigs from the garden and fresh garlic cloves.

My April 2022 purchase of your 85% ground beef is not up to the quality I’ve come to expect from you. It’s more gristley and less flavorful. It tastes more like standard supermarket hamburger. I’m disappointed, and will be looking elsewhere for my next ground beef purchase.

I live 30 miles away from an organic grocery and always had to go to two or three stores to find 100% grass fed Organic Prairie ground beef. I tried ordering from the company and, wow, Ill never shop in brick and mortar for it again.

The order arrived faster than I expected, the meat was frozen solid, and its so nicely in my freezer whenever I want to use it. Im ordering the chicken next. Often, my stores are our of another brand of organic chicken.

We have an extra freezer in our house which has come in handy during the pandemic crisis. I came across this company during my search for online delivery of organic meat. Turkey, same story, delicious but pricey.

We loved the grass fed ground beef. Very little fat. Used to make tacos and lasagna, so when I was browning the meat, I was amazed at how little oil/fat was in the pan when I was finished. Again, very happy with taste and quality, but normally I could buy 2 of this product for around $16 in my local grocery store.

We love trying new burger blends and being a Texan I am extremely fond of Brisket. Because of that we were stoked to receive these for review and instantly decided to make a BBQ style burger with some leftover Mac Cheese after Thanksgiving.

They grilled up well, though they did give off quite a bit of smoke indicating a slightly higher fat content than we are used to. That being said they grilled up well and were juice despite the darker color from all of the BBQ sauce we mixed into our seasoning blend (salt, pepper, garlic, Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce.

) From there we put them on brioche buns with a mound of Mac cheese, a thick cut onion ring and more drizzled BBQ sauce. You’d think with all the toppings we wouldn’t be able to taste much of the meat but these have such a great flavor on their own that the meat was able to shine through.

Overall we will definitely purchase these again as the great flavor is indicative of the superior meat quality for such a low price point.

Absolutely one of the best hamburgers I have ever made. I added bacon bits to it and cooked on a low /medium heat on the grill. I added bacon/cheddar seasoning as well. Then I put it on lightly warmed up Hawaiian rolls with mozzarella cheese, added fresh cut tomatoes, some mayo and a basalmic glaze.

Even without the sandwich part, the meat was incredible! The quality is definitely top notch! The price is totally reasonable for how thick the burgers are! I was very impressed and was happy to see that there was 6 in a package.

Will be buying again for sure!.
