20 Best Cpus For Rtx 3070 (2023 Updated)

This card’s ROG Strix style looks amazing, it’s a great looking card and matches my Strix motherboard. Comes in a nice looking box too. Looks are all well and good but it’s the performance that matters most.

ASUS is using a chunky 2. 9-slot design on the ROG Strix RTX 3070 graphics card, but it is using it to good effect here. It’s a thick card, but it looks mean as Hell and has the performance numbers and noise levels to prove it.

A lot of that room is used to good effect for cooling and it works, this card runs at very low temps and is very very quiet. It runs every game that I throw at it at ultra settings. Before deciding on this card I looked at all the reviews I could find on thirty eight 3070 cards from different manufacturers and this card came out top in nearly every test and with the build quality you would expect with Strix beating the competition hands down.

And although this already comes factory overclocked out of the box it has plenty of headroom for further overclocking thanks to its superior component quality. The quality of those components is reflected in the cost though, which is the only downside for this card, as it averages out to around 100 more than some of it’s competitors.

Not sure of the MRRP card at the moment, certainly not after the high prices that we saw recently! Currently listed on the ASUS website @ 739. 99 and the cheapest I could find in stock was 699. 95 at Overclockers.

At that price point you may want to consider if it is worth paying a little more for an RTX 3080! I was very lucky in that I was the only bidder in an auction which had a starting price of 499. 99 for a Brand New Card and both I and the seller were very surprised that there were no other bidders.

At that price this card was an absolute bargain as pre-owned ones were (and still are at the time of writing) going for a lot more than that, let alone a new one! If you are set on getting a RTX 3070 and you can find this card at the right price then I would highly recommend that you get it, I am certainly glad that I did.

Oh! It also has RGB if that’s your thing.

It’s a big card with a big cooler, and that keeps temps at a comfortable 60° in a well ventilated case. Runs just about anything @ 1440p well over 100+ FPS, even with ray tracing in the case of Cyberpunk 2077.

Runs at about 50 MH/s mining ethereum if you plan to do some part-time mining. Only problems are the following: 1) coil whine. It’s not the worst ever but definitely unexpected and unpleasant. 2) this will not fit in a compact case.

It’s gigantic for a 70 series card. Not a huge problem for me with my case, but something to consider. 3) it costs more than a 3080 Founders Edition. If it’s between the two, get the 3080. If it’s between this and buying over $1000 secondhand, just buy it here.

Also keep in mind it wants 2 separate PCIe power cables. If you use a PSU with two 8 pin connectors on the same cable, it’ll give you a power warning LED. It seems to work despite the warning but I didn’t benchmark performance both ways before upgrading my PSU.

The 3800xt has the highest single core and all core boost of the Ryzen 3000 line. Coming from a 3600x, the performance uplift was surprisingly noticeable in both benchmarks and day-to-day feel. Paired with a 32gbs of 3200 cl14 ram on an X470 board, this chip absolutely flies.

The XT line is the highest binned set of dies of the Zen 2 family and thus capable of scaling higher than its x and n-x counterparts, especially under optimal cooling solutions. Under a standard 240mm aoi loop, the 3800xt is idling anywhere between 30-50c and peaking at 71c all-core full load.

At stock clocks and voltage, two cores are reported boosting past 4. 7ghz under single threaded workloads, while the rest of the cores are reaching 4. 6ghz during mixed executions. Undervolting is also great on this cheap for those for eco cosncous.

A 4. 1ghz all core frequency was achievable with less than 1. 2 volts with 4. 45 achievable at just over 1. 3 volts using software over locking methods. Stock, this chip is designed to reach 1. 5 volts safely for very short periods of time.

Overall, this is a great chip, especially had under $300. A sizable upgrade from all previous Zen and Zen+ and a respectable uplift from zen2 non-xt cpus. While it is outclassed by the he latest and greatest I the form of the 5800x, the 3800xt can be had for considerably less and is easier to cool all the while performing admirably in most builds.

This chip is a huge upgrade over my old Ryzen 5 1600 6-Core processor. I bought it to run Star Citizen better, and it runs it about twice as fast as my old processor (aka: ~ twice the FPS in the most taxing scenes.

) (I also got a 360mm liquid cooler to replace the stock cooler I got with my old processor, so that probably accounts for some of the performace improvement. ) It has a max boost clock of 4. 5 GHz, but even with the 360mm liquid cooler I put on it, it only gets up to about 4.

29-4. 32 GHz under load. I have not tried to overclock it, yet. I bought it because my X370 motherboard does not support newer 5000-series Ryzen processors. Overall, I would recommend this processor to anyone needing an upgrade over a first-gen Ryzen processor who does not want to replace their motherboard.

(Check you mobo’s CPU support list before buying! Yours may not support this processor, even though mine did. ).

TL;DR: Buy this product if it is in stock and if you need a graphics card because it is amazing, but don’t fear if you don’t get it for AMD and Nvidia’s new offerings in Q 1/2 of 2021, may provide the gpu that could be a better fit for you.

I got this product after refreshing the page many times on launch day and was one of the few souls who got it, I wish luck to the others who are trying to get it. Firstly, I use a egpu (external Graphics Card Unit) when I game because of my personal situation, and I was able to get it up and running within a few minutes.

All of my games are amazing compared to my previous card (gtx 960) and I was able to play Battlefield 1/V, Fallout 4/76, Skyrim SE, GTA V, and RDR2 all at 60 fps+ on 4k High/Ultra settings with 1% lies in the low 50s fps at worse (RDR2 during a pretty strenuous scene) and 0.

1% lows in the high 40s fps (also in RDR2). But please remember, even with my relatively good egpu set up, it normally gets no more than 80-95% then what you get in desktop, so your milage may very. Thermals: It never got more than 72°C in my 1 hour stress test in unigen heaven with the very quiet stock fan curve that got to no more than 41%.

The physical card is simply beautiful and it seems to use all of the metal as a heat sink and (don’t touch the card at home, I was just curious for this review) gets quite uncomfortably hot, so don’t touch your graphics card while it’s in usage even though that should be obvious because it is a computer part.

It admittedly warmed up my room by about 1°C with room set at 21°C to 22°C after about 5 hours of continuous usage (along with my 25w laptop and my smaller bedroom, this is an uncontrolled variable but is interesting nontheless).

The airflow and cooling for the card is outstanding considering it is a 200w card and is smaller than my evga twin fan edition of my previous gtx 960. Great stuff! Overclocking: With there being quite a bit of thermal head room, I felt confident in the cards ability to I overclock, and I was right.

I was able to oc it with the core at 2085 mhz (+150 cc) and it was stable during my 2 hour stress test of me playing GTA V story mode. I was able to get it to 2110 mhz (+175 cc), but it was a tad unstable if it stayed there, and would normally fall back down to 2085 automatically in order to not crash.

With the memory clock I was able to get a +1400mhz on the memory and it remained stable and there was no artifacting after that same stress test on GTA V. Ii was able to get about 3%-12% fps performance gains, which is astounding, but the average was more like 6.

5-8. 5% fps gain. With the stock fan curve and with these overclocking settings, it got to 54% fan speed at 79°C, and with my manual fan speed setting of 72% it sat at 75°C. I would suggest using the auto curve if you are a bit sensitive to noise, but if you’re fine with a little bit of fan noise, I would suggest raising the fan speed slightly higher like I did.

Overall, it’s very impressive from my perspective. Note that overclocking may void manufacturer warranty on some products and may not give same results, so use at your own risk. DLSS and RTX: I really only play one game that uses either that I care to use and that is rtx minecraft which works perfectly at 4k ~55-60fps and looks stunning.

It uses DLSS for the performance gains of from what I can tell of about 15-20+ fps to make it go from playable to very useable. DLSS at this point seems to be very a future oriented technology which is nice, because it gives me some more hope that I will be able to use the 3060ti for longer than I would otherwise.

But, right now it is still a very impressive technology. Overall: This is a great product for $400 and although a bit more vram would have been nice, for $400 there is no question that this is an absolute buy.

Although the review shenanigans that occurred around this launch were quite suspect, this product is still very good and I recommend buying this model or any other 3060ti model if it is under $430. RTX in my eyes is still in it’s infancy, but very much a product to be used, and DLSS along with Nvidia broadcast is also amazing.

Best Buy pickup was fine and they got it too me a day later than expected, but they brought it out my car within a few minutes when I did go to pick it up. Thanks for my long ramble, and I wish you luck on getting this card, or any card for a good price this holiday season.

Packaging is gorgeous. It feels like you purchased jewelry! Gpu feels very sturdy and well made. Backplate makes her sit very snuggly in the case without any flex or movement; very solid. 12-pin adapter is a very silly idea and makes for a clunky looking connection.

Not very fond of it at all! Performance is fantastic and pretty quiet operation. I cannot hear it behind the noise of my watercooler. Connections on the back are good and having one HDMI port is appreciated, given the rest of them are display ports.

Temperatures stay in the low 60s, while heavy operations cause it to climb towards 70°C. Having a price tag of 350usd would have made it golden, but oh, nvidia.

The installation of this processor is pretty easy to understand like most AMD processors have been in past itterations, line up the slotted corner, the only complaint I would have is the bracket the AM4 platform uses just having a loose bracket even after appropriately installing a cooler is strange although the manual says this should be the case I dont like anything loose when building hardware.

But that’s really just nitpicking. The OS installed beautifully off of a usb flash drive, although I had to re-install wine after initial setup. The hardware was instantly recognized which is nice having an RTX 3060ti I was hesitant it would not recognize the card.

The instant display of 65 gb of ram, all 24 core’s running and their respective loads, the sabrent rocket m. 2’s, as well as the massive cache (not as big as the 5,00 series but good enough for a busy day of gaming).

This beast of a build just handles whatever I have thrown at it so far. I have really only run it in a few games over a few weeks but Neverwinter, Civ’s 5 + 6, Minetest, Dota 2, Boderlands 2 won’t even stress any of the hardware at max settings.

I will have to run VM’s and harder games like hunt: showdown , or wait for cyberpunk to fix the bulldozer software scan thats been slowing down there software, I personally prefer to break the hardware in slower before really putting a hard stress test, although I did bench Civ and placed top 99% for AI calculations and game simulation on max settings.

So what’s the take away from all this? It’s an easy chip to build from, has run linux mint ulyanna 64 bit stable and easily, wine runs fine (after a reinstall), play on steam and play on linux both work fine off the processor, Personally I would watercool the processor, although the wraith cooler seems fine if you are on a budget but if your on a budget chances are you are not looking at these 12 – 16 core processors so I say spend the 100$ and keep it cooler longer (remember heat kills electronics).

When I bought this processor with tax it ran me 450$, that price after I bought it jumped by almost 100$ if that tells you anything you need to know about how good the Ryzen series really is versus intel.

My first personal experience building a computer was off the AM3+ platform and boy what a long way they have come. Cost to performance AMD still paves the way as Intel has become an after thought. I can do it all with this much power, and I can do it affordably.

From graphics rendering to hard gaming I see this platform being used from colleges to hollywood. Unless you get a processor that DOA you will not be disappointed, AMD brought the heat with the 5,000 processors, but if you want to get it done and for a way better price than the 5,000 series can be found at currently or even at all, then get the 3900x it can be found today and at a real price point not some over inflated out of stock price currently had by the 5000 series.

Okay this isn’t the top of the range chip but given the price point the performance is amazing. I think bang for buck it is one of the best chips out there at the moment. I’ve been doing video editing and complex 3D rendering in Blender including high poly models with many modifiers that go through CPU rather than GPU as default and it hasn’t skipped a beat.

For my day to day tasks, bearing in mind I deal with some seriously large data analysis (I. e. 1 million+ lines per tab, hundreds of formulas, 20+ tabs etc all in a local data model meaning the Excel file is over 100mb in size) my previous 8 core i7 @ 3.

6mhz seems like an ancient technology in comparison and there is a noticeable uplift in performance. I’ve been tinkering with virtual machines and have been running two virtual machines on top of my current setup (so effectively 3 machines at once) and again there’s been virtually no performance lag on day to day tasks on the main machine if the virtual machines are limited to 1 or 2 cores each.

So ita versatility for software developers is fantastic. It does kick out a lot of heat though under these sustained loads and the Wraith Prism fan just about copes with it when it isn’t overclocked and I think I have been subjected to some thermal throttling as a result.

For 80% of users I think the Wraith Prism would be more than adequate. But for power users, or those thinking of over clocking, that are going to run as sustained loads the Wraith Prism isn’t the quietest and a suitable upgrade for cooling should be looked into.

Great that, given the right motherboard, the CPU supports the upcoming windows 11 TPM requirements so it’ll stand the test of time too.

This was purchased as an upgrade from a 2700X. Compile times on a large project dropped considerably vs my old CPU, but then I also upgraded from 16GB to 64GB which helped compile more modules in parallel on different threads.

Recording video in OBS studio seems to have improved as well. I record output from multiple programs and combine it into a single video, and it seems to feel smoother. Yeah, you might get a higher frame rate with a 5900X on a top end graphics card running 1080p, but as the graphics card goes down in speed and/or up in resolution this becomes less of an issue.

The 5900X is also more expensive. You’ll have to decide what’s best for you, but my graphics card will probably be the bottle neck for the near future. Overclocking/undervolting software has it benchmarking faster than a 3900XT, so die qualities have probably improved since the release of these CPUs, but it depends on how well you do in the silicon lottery.

Overall a great purchase, and Micro Center had it at a great price.

The 9600K’s only drawback is that it isn’t hyper-threaded (1 core, 1 thread). But that’s true of the entire 9 series until you get to the i9-9900K. This was Intel’s answer to the pressure from AMD, much like the 7 series.

BUT having said that, they made the cores faster, so gamers rejoice. This chip is faster than the 9700k, still has plenty of cores for the basics in video editing, and is more than the average user would need for most purposes.

It also runs very cool in comparison to it’s hyper-threaded siblings and the competition (although those are designed for more heat). If you’re only going to game, or aren’t a video/audio editor or power user then this CPU is superb.

It’s also pretty much bulletproof as far as longevity. I’ve had 2 i9-9900k’s go bad now, and switched both over to 9600k’s both times. Again, it’s faster than the 9700k, just 2 less cores for multitasking.

Ive been building gaming rigs for almost 20 years. Id guess about 44 to 50 units. Ive learned that a gaming rig doesnt need a 125w+ cpu unless your looking for 144fps on Ultimate settings. These rigs will cost $3,000+.

Thats not ecomomical unless you have money to burn. 99% of people cant afford that. If your looking for a good CPU that can pair with a GTX 1650 or 1050ti to build a pico PSU mini, low wattage gaming rig, this IS the one.

you will need to find a B85, H81, Z87, H91, Z97, H97, etc. Motherboard. My newest efficient rig uses this CPU with an H97 itx, and GTX 1650 with 16gb, and 1tb ssd. total rig uses 110w full load gaming.

60+ fps on all games at 1080p on very high settings. making it prettier and more energy efficient than any modern console. The T line i5, and i7 CPUs are excellent performers. the S line is better for GTX 1660s or 1070s.

Dont always believe the hype on liquid cooling and 20 core CPUs. Its just hype. 4 core, 35w CPU is plenty sufficient. Most builds over do it on the CPU and scrimp on the GPU. Id suggest leaning in the opposite direction if your building primarily for gaming.

Other than the i7 4785t, this is THE best value 35w CPU out there. Hands Down. A 35w cooler with get throttled often if gaming. 65w cooler will give 66c on full gaming load, 38 to 42c idle. a 95w cooler will give 52c on full gaming load, and 28 to 32c idle.

Get the 95w cpu coolers if space and finances are not an issue. The seller provided a clean, strong performing CPU for a steal of a deal. Shipped quick, arrived early, and easy to install. Especially if you use thermal pads as apposed to paste.

This CPU has around i5-8500 level performance, but costs less than an i5-8400, much less sometimes when Microcenter has a sale. For some people, it’d be a pain to not have an integrated GPU to just boot up and use, but for a gaming rig with a separate card, it’s a non-issue.

I’m used to this because I generally use AMD CPU’s, which often don’t have integrated GPU’s (on Desktop anyways) and I also find it convenient that I don’t have to worry about switching between integrated graphics and dedicated graphics either in the BIOS or Windows.

This CPU has 6 real cores, a low TDP, strong IPC (especially single core and quad core) and can boost to 4. 1 ghz when only using 2 cores, and 4. 0 when using 4. All-core boost is 3. 9, which is still pretty impressive.

Having switched from an old Bulldozer based 8350, I’ve seen much better performance, particularly in games, and games that need strong single core performance. I’ve seen FPS literally even double on certain titles that require a lot of single or dual core grunt.

My only complaint (which may not be an issue for some) is that you can’t overclock on this CPU, especially with the cheaper motherboards. AMD’s new Ryzen CPU’s DO allow you to do this, and with the cheaper “B” series motherboards to boot.

For people who don’t OC it’s not an issue, but those who do OC can probably get better performance out of a similar-priced Ryzen CPU, especially since those tend to have more threads than Intel CPU’s of a similar price.

My biggest complaint though is that the stock Intel Cooler really was terrible. I didn’t think it would be that bad, but it was loud and very buzzy, and could even be heard even over background noise, speakers, and even headphones.

AMD’s Wraith series of stock coolers are much better than Intel’s stock ones. I ended up having to buy a $13 Arctic Alpine 12 cooler to replace the stock cooler because I just couldn’t stand the noise.

All in all though, I’d say this is still a great CPU for gamers and system builders who need a separate video card. For those who just want an office machine or a browser / word processing rig and don’t need more than integrated graphics, the 8400 is probably a better buy, and maybe even an 8100 if you don’t need more than 4 cores.

AMD’s Ryzen 5 series is also on option, but mostly if you don’t mind not having integrated video on the chip, as only the 2400g and 2200g APU’s have that for Desktop AMD CPU’s.

EVGA being Nvidia exclusive partner does some justice when it comes to AIB cards. For starters I’ve found the fan quality on GPUs to be good over the entire lineup they have. The ultra gaming line up is higher quality silicon so would have slightly higher factory OC compared to stock clocks.

XC3 in general are 2 slot designs and are typically for cases that have limited space. Nevertheless this one is quite long imo for the size of the card. It compromises the cooling potential on higher end (RTX 3080, RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3090).

However, it’s great for 3060 Ti and 3070. For the launch price it was ridiculously overpriced but the prices are coming down now. The XC3 RGB is also limited. If anyone is debating between XC3 or FTW3 and size is not an issue definitely go with the beefed up FTW3 cooler (it’s worth $30-$40 additional).

The card performs very well (max settings in all modern games from my testing) and I have never seen it go above 65C in my mATX case. You can also extend the warranty via EVGA. cons: 1. My card had some coil whine in the first week of use which was corrected by running superposition benchmark for about an hour or so.

2. As of the date of this post you cannot do an EVGA step-up to a 3080 10GB card. So please keep that in mind if you have any intention of doing so when buying this card. As a tip for prospective buyers, if you are fortunate enough to get past verification during restocking but are getting a “250 mile error” like I did when attempting to hit the yellow “add to cart” link, change your preferred Best Buy pick-up location to random states until you are able to add it to your cart.

Pros: -Factory overclocked -Direct cooling from the 3080 -virtually quiet – Outside of Founders Edition 3070, this is the next best value card in the 3070 lineup. Though MSRP’s right now are pretty bad for GPUs.

You may want to look at the 3060 ti because it’s similar performance (around 10% less at most) while being cheaper. Cons: -LARGE. if you have a tiny case, you’ll want to double-check clearance, since this card is larger than most.

-Heavy, If your motherboard doesn’t come with one, you might want to check into support. Also, make sure you undervolt (guides on youtube). It keeps the card running cooler, draws less power, and can slightly boost perfoamce.

Fans start ramping up on this one past 55c It’s tough to go wrong with this card. If you can, get one and don’t look back!.

This is one of the best built RTX 3070’s on the market. Going by teardowns, this card uses components that are better than the minimum spec required by Nvidia, and the design of this card helps keep the card extremely cool while in use.

It’s extremely quiet, runs with temperatures at a mere 65c when pegged at full use, and will handle most things you throw at it with relative ease. I’d like to say that it will not play the newest titles at 4K maxed, but it will do most at acceptable settings in 4K.

I’d say this card is more a 1440P powerhouse. It’s a good, affordable card that ASUS has overspecced and as a result you get one of the quietest and coolest cards on the market with components that will likely last longer than other card makers.

The card was expensive for sure (I also bought MC’s warranty so of course, it would be). Let’s just say it cost me well above 6800 XT MSRP. Was it worth it? Yeah. (notice it’s not a “YEAH”?) The card itself is an amazing performer.

I’m looking for something quiet and has three fans, and this checks the boxes. At about 80% fan speed (that’s the highest it went) it’s still quiet. Although the reviews I watched mentioned the card tops out at 62-64C while gaming, mine doesn’t (take into account that I use a front-mounted radiator for my AIO); the highest mine went up to is 70C which is not bad but I prefer mid 60’s.

The clock speeds go up to 2010Mhz if I remember correctly (with increased power limit). I have tried undervolting it before but it wasn’t quite successful, but I will continue trying (it crashed my game while it was at 0.

95mV). I can really think of two downsides. One is the RGB logo placement; it’s literally underneath where you plug in the power cables so the cables cover up the RGB logo. I had to route the cables above the card to not cover up the logo.

The other downside is that, for a card being “TUF” as advertised, it still sags, although not a lot it’s still noticeable for me. I had to get a GPU bracket. Overall, I love this card and the only thing I regret is the price I paid for it.

There are 2 stepping versions of this CPU and there is no way to know which you are getting. Core i5-10400F Stepping Q0: It is based on the IHS with a smaller thickness and that is soldered directly to the DIE of the processor.

This processor will have better temperatures as it offers better temperature transfer Core i5-10400F Stepping G1: This version of the processor has the new IHS with less thickness than previous generations.

It is not soldered to the DIE of the processor and is based on the conventional thermal paste commonly used by the company. We are talking about a less efficient version in terms of heat transfer. Over all at under $140 pretty hard to beat this CPU, very good performance for what you are paying.

I am an AMD guy mostly but there are more choices for ITX boards with intel that and the low price is why I went with this product.

Didn’t even consider Intel last year when looking to upgrade from my i7-4770k and kept waiting for the then well-priced ryzens to come back in stock. Partly down to Intel’s mean spirited attitude and faster memory only being usable with z-series mobos.

However, a failing mobo forced me to upgrade now. I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. Pc largely used for AAA gaming and photo processing and this i5 is more than fast enough for both. So far, it hasn’t even broken a sweat and in a way I’m glad I haven’t been able to upgrade my gtx 1660 as my *total* power draw at the wall under load is about 200w which means the pooter runs quiet.

I think you’d have to spend an awful lot more for a significant improvement in performance and then you’d be looking at much more power hungry chips. At the time of writing, my i5-10400f + 16gb ram cost the same as a comparable but not-in-stock ryzen 5 3600x.

Hell, it costs less than a used i7-4770k. No, neither the chip nor ram can be overclocked and fastest usable ram is 2666mhz but this really doesn’t hurt as much as you might think but if you’re thinking of getting this chip, consider getting same price 3000mhz ram and a decent b460 board (not expensive now) because they’ll support and power 10th gen i7 and i9s – just in case the gear itch strikes a bit further down the road.

Tbh though, next thing really is ddr5 and that would mean complete platform change anyway. Really pleased with my i5 and very pleased about how little leccy it uses. Pictured is MSI Mortar and a tower cooler with a fan that hasn’t yet spun-up over 25% Also pictured is complete build because not all gaming pcs have led lighting :).

First of all, this processor is good–in fact, more impressive than I would’ve thought it would be. All those recommendations? Very wise to believe them. My issue lies with Intel sending these tiny fans with slightly large heat pipes and expecting it to still be able to handle Turbo boost without thermal throttling.

This is something I’ve been thinking since the Core i7-7700K dropped: The Turbo boost should either be off or optional in a program, NOT on by default in the BIOS. Because odds are if your old cooler died or you don’t have a secondary option, you will thermal throttle your CPU on accident using the new stock cooler like I nearly did.

The problem is, Windows gives you a slight patch in the form of selecting in the power options to turn your max CPU power to 98 or 99%. However, this is not ideal as you’ll go from nearly 4. 50GHz (which is terrifying, by the way since it’s only rated for 4.

30GHz tops but I digress) to 2. 90GHz with nothing in-between. Not that Intel really cares at this point; but I will say, AMD does do a better job at sending a bulky cooler alongside their CPU to help deal with thermals.

As I said at the beginning though: The processor itself is great. If only Intel would work more on their cooling solutions out of the box to incentivize people, especially beginners, to use their products.

I won’t mention exact prices in this review due to Newegg policy, but they are entirely relevant to my recommendations. I’m upgrading from a Phenom-II X4 970, so this is a massive upgrade for me. If you’re currently on a 5th gen intel processor, you won’t find any speed gains here.

I was able to get it stable at 4. 5 ghz turbo with a Cryorig H7 cooler with good temperatures, and could probably push the clock higher. I understand these top out at 4. 9 ghz assuming you have the cooling for it, but your mileage will likely vary, as not all chips are created equal.

At the current price point, this processor competes heavily with the i7 4790k which is almost as fast and offers hyperthreading, allowing it to overtake the 6600k in multi-core tasks. The 6700k offers hyperthreading, but is a lot more expensive.

It’s worth noting that despite having a higher stock speed, the 6700k has the same overclock ceiling of around 4. 5-4. 9 ghz as the 6600k, and will likely require a better cooler thanks to the heat generated by hyperthreading.

So basically, after overclocking all you get by spending up is hyperthreading, and you may want to consider a 4790k at that point. Once the price drops to intel’s MSRP, I can recommend this CPU whole-heartedly, but even at current prices I doubt you’ll regret it, especially if it’s been a few years since your last upgrade.

In real-world terms, paired with a GTX 970 and 16 gb of RAM, the processor handles Fallout 4 competently and Skyrim flawlessly with HD textures installed. My FFXIV Heavensward benchmark jumped from 66fps with my old Phenom II and the same card, to 92fps, and had less stutters.

That should give you an idea of what to expect.

Compared to the 20XX Nvidia cards and prices, this was a no-brainer. I can turn every setting in every title up to max and pull 60+ fps at 4k. Destiny 2 has never looked or felt better, I can finally try out the Minecraft RTX Beta, and I already pre-ordered Cyberpunk.

My CPU is a first-gen Ryzen 1800x, and I dont feel like I’m experiencing any kind of bottlenecks. Minor “Buyer Beware” though: If you have a vertical GPU bracket and PCI riser cable, keep in mind this card exhausts through where the back plate would be, not so much out of the ports and back, like older GPU’s would with a blower-style cooler.

I had it originally set up in this config, and things got HOT. I quickly realized this was happening though and removed the vertical mount, and after that things worked great! Now I just need to get a nice 144hz display and I would be set!.

I purchased nearly everything for my first PC build the same day. Aside from my graphics card, which I already had prior to anything else, I purchased the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 3. 7GHz 8 Core AM4 Boxed Processor with Wraith Prism Cooler, MSI B450 TOMAHAWK AMD AM4 ATX Motherboard, Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 PC4-25600 CL16 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit, NZXT H510 Tempered Glass ATX Mid-Tower Computer Case, and although it won’t let me add more than three to my product review, I also purchased an Inland Professional 960 GB 3D NAND SATA III 6Gb/s 2.

5″ Internal SSD and a Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA III 6Gb/s 3. 5″ Internal Hard Drive. Beginning with Ryzen 7 2700X, I’ve done plenty of researching on the internet on different CPUs and their performance, however, I found that this CPU would be perfect for my first gaming setup.

With not having much knowledge on how to assemble a PC, I found this CPU and heatsink fan to be extremely easy to install. The heatsink fan comes preinstalled with thermal paste, so there is no need to put thermal past on the CPU.

The fan is quiet and also has RGB lighting which looks pretty neat through the tempered glass on my case. Moving on to the motherboard, the MSI Tomahawk B450 was very simple with it’s instructions on how to install everything needed.

It has (2) USB 2. 0 ports, (3) USB 3. 1 ports and (1) USB-C port, an excellent amount with everything that I have plugged in. It comes with a pretty cool looking IO shield and has a nice back lighting on the top right of it as well.

Upon turning the PC on for the first time, it booted the OS from my flashdrive automatically. After installing my OS, I found it easy to get into the BIOS screen to change my RAM speed to 3200. Moving on to the RAM I purchased, the Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8GB works great and is compatible with the Ryzen 2700x and the MSI B450 motherboard.

Not too much to it, I purchased 2 RAM sticks with higher speeds so the processor will perform better. Before moving on to the case, I would like to talk about the Inland SSD and the Seagate HDD. Both work perfectly fine, after doing some research online, a lot of reviewers recommended Samsung for SSDs, however, I’ve been using this Inland SSD for about a month now and it’s been working fine.

I don’t know if I would be able to tell the difference if I got a different brand. Everything that I have saved to it, loads up very quickly. I use the SSD to boot my OS, and store the games and documents that I would like to load up quickly, and the Seagate HDD to store games that I don’t mind taking a while to load, along with anything else.

Finally, the NZXT H510 mid tower case, it’s great for first timers like me. It has plenty of cable routing holes, which makes it easier for wire management (also comes with zip ties). It comes with a USB-C, USB 3.

0 and Audio Jack on the front. I’m not exactly sure if the audio jack is for a standard 3. 5mm, cause when I try to plug my head set in, it seems like a tight fit and no audio comes through, however, I like to use the USB port for my headset anyway so it doesn’t bother me.

I found it extremely convenient that the case comes with (2) 2. 5” drive bays, I didn’t want to leave my SSD randomly inside the case, but I was able to mount it in the slots. It also appears to fit (3) 3.

5” HDDs, that will be useful if I decide I need more storage. There is a divider panel that separates the motherboard from the power supply, which I find quite useful because there are a lot of extra cables attached to my power supply due to not purchasing a modular power supply.

After pre placing most of the needed cables through the cable routing holes, everything was pretty easy to plug into the motherboard, the only exception was the CPU power cord from the power supply. There is a cable routing hole in the top left corner of the case, however, the space between the corner of the case and the corner of the mother board, made it slightly difficult to plug in.

Overall, my first PC build was successful, and I am extremely satisfied with all the parts I’ve purchased. 10/10 would recommend everything that I have reviewed today.

Wanted a cheap system to encode H265 on the CPU versus using a GPU or QuickSync since the quality using the CPU for encoding is the best from my limited testing so far. Since this processor has been out a few years there are quite a few used ones for sale so prices are fairly reasonable, motherboards are also fairly plentiful new or used giving a good range of choices from basic to full featured.

Since it has been a few years since I last updated my systems I built 6 new ones ranging from Ryzen 7 2700x/B450, Ryzen 7/X470, Ryzen 5 3600X/B450, i5-9600K/Z370, i7-9700K/Z390 and i5-10600K/Z490 to see which was the best at encoding based on time and it was an interesting process with all 6 falling within a few minutes of each other encoding the same video.

The Ryzen 7 2700X is middle of the pact but due to its lower overall cost makes a decent system for encoding video IMO.

I had been looking forward to an upgrade to Zen2 Ryzen next year, but since my 4 year old Intel motherboard died, I had to upgrade a bit sooner than expected. I bought this CPU to hold me out until I can get a good deal on a Zen2 3rd Generation Ryzen in the future.

I managed to overclock mine to 3. 9 GHz stable. I could almost squeeze 4GHz out of it, but it’s not entirely stable and would take a huge step up in voltage to get it there, and the heat that would come along with it.

it’s not worth that extra 100MHz. 3. 9 is still very respectable performance-wise. My previous CPU was an i5-4670k. I never delidded it so it ran hot with Intel’s poor performing thermal paste between the die and heatspreader, regularly getting into 90C degree territory under load.

I have a more than capable AIO liquid cooler but it didn’t improve temps over a Hyper 212+ that I previously had on it thanks to that thermal paste. Now I have 2x the amount of cores, 4x the amount of threads, and it runs significantly cooler at almost the same clockspeed.

I’m blown away at how terrible Intel’s paste really is, and they used it for so long. I love that AMD never compromised in this area, not even on the lower end Ryzen chips. All of them are unlocked and have a soldered heatspreader.

That’s value if I’ve ever seen it. For those of you looking to build a Ryzen system, as of right now, Zen2 looks like it’s right around the corner. 1st generation Ryzen isn’t far behind 2nd gen in terms of performance, but the upcoming 3rd gen should be a much better improvement.

I would suggest scoring a good deal on this CPU instead of an R7- 2700X in the meantime and put that money saved towards a future upgrade, or holding out for a little longer until the next generation arrives.

I’m not regretting my decision one bit.
