Purchased this processor along with a new ASUS Tuf Gaming B550 Plus Wi FI MB, 32GB G Skill Ripjaws V32GB RAM, (and SATA DVD +/-rw) to upgrade an ATHLON II based machine. combine equipment to bring desktop up to today’s standards.

MB has many performance features, simple BIOS upgrades, and large RAM capacity. Processor is very fast, and has the ability to overclock, which I may pursue in the future, but do not need at the moment.

Processor also comes with a standard cooler, which manages standard processing temperatures with minimum work. No performance or temp issues are noted at all. RAM is also very stable and able to overclock.

very nice upgrade to 12 year old desktop computer, which now runs flawlessly. included drivers are latest, and all company web sites provide very good update support (including AMD monitor, which will compare current drivers with latest releases and update as needed.

Note: I built my current machine in 2010, which included DDRII, dual core, and existing IDE DVD burner. Updated to 600 watt PS and SSD in last few years, and very happy that I am able to continue with customizing my machine, which is much more stable and sure than the prebuilt machines offered in the big-box stores.

I recently bought a Steam Valve Index VR setup and started using it on my home theater PC (i7-6700 on an MSI Pro Carbon mobo with 16 gigs of ram and a GTX1080 GPU). I found that after running some games like Arizona Sunshine or Time Carnage VR, the CPU would spike up to 98-100% on all cores while the GPU was maxing out at about 45%.

I decided to rebuild the computer using this CPU, an ASRock B550 Taichi, and 32 gigs of ram. I kept the GPU since a graphics card will pretty much cost you an organ these days, and the 1080 is still a strong performer.

The 5600X is about 700 mhz faster than the 6700, has 2 additional cores and 4 more threads, a much newer architecture, and it made short work of load times! In addition to that, all cores peak at about 88%, and the GPU is now showing about 55% usage.

5600X and 6700 are both 65W chips, but it’s amazing what 4 or 5 years newer tech gets you! In the AMD lineup, for gaming, the 5600X is it. The 5800X is much more expensive for only modest gains (content creation tasks aside), and the 5900X or 5950X are waaaaay more expensive and very much aimed towards content creators.

The 5600X is probably the very best price:performance deal in computer chips in a very long time!.

The comparable speed 2nd generation (Ryzen 5 2600) is about 10 per cent faster but more expensive Yes, various Intel i5 cpu’s are faster at single core gaming (and more $$ ) but the Ryzen 5 and 7 lines are 30, 40, 50% faster with multi-core applications (streaming, photo and video editing and doing multiple things at the same time).

I pare my Ryzen 1600 gaming machine with a Radeon RX 580 – budget mix gets me great gaming at 1080p; EVERY ONE of my 75 Steam games run at the highest settings. Performance is 50 min fps for the most demanding games and up to 260 fps on some.

Note: Ryzen seems to really take advantage of faster ram. My new system with this Ryzen 5 1600 at 3200 ddr4 sometimes seems snappier in games than my Ryzen 2700x system with its 2400 ddr4. Haven’t benched mark this perception yet.

Also note that almost all games are single core, and advantage for the 1600. FYI, not to give the wrong info – my 2700x system is always much faster in multicore like video editing etc. A mention abut Microcenter.

While the Ryzen 7 family brought AMD back to being competitive in the high-end CPU market with their hugely impressive multi-threaded performance and value compared to Intel’s X99 platform, most people won’t ever use 8 cores or 16 threads.

Enter the Ryzen 5 family made up of the 6 core and 12 thread 1600 and 1600X, and 4 core and 8 thread 1400 and 1500X. The 1600 is arguably the best value of all the Ryzen 5 CPUs, as of this writing it’s only $30 more than the 1500X and $30 less than the 1600X, plus adding extra value with the great Wraith Spire cooler that is missing from the 1600X.

At this point Intel might have a slight advantage in IPC with their Kaby Lake CPUs, but it’s very slight, and negated by Ryzen’s better multi-threaded performance and unlocked multiplier for overclocking on all Ryzen CPUs.

It’s hard not to be impressed by getting 50% more cores (4 vs 6) and 200% more threads (4 vs 12) compared to Kaby Lake i5 CPUs at a similar price. For my build I went with the R5 1600 and Asus Prime X370-Pro.

Micro Center’s $50 off combo deal, at the time of my purchase, made this an unbeatable value. You can save even more by going with a B350 motherboard, with the difference mostly being fewer USB 3. 1 ports/PCIe lanes and no multi GPU support (although I have heard it works but you get only x8+x4 lanes instead of x8+x8 lanes).

I went for the Asus because it was the cheapest X370 motherboard Micro Center carried at the time and I wanted the better VRM cooling for overclocking. Overall the system I built around the R5 1600 is a powerhouse.

Windows 10 installed in a couple minutes on my Samsung 960 Evo M. 2 PCIe NVMe SSD. I updated to the latest Asus 0604 BIOS and have had no issues at all with stability. My Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB 2133MHz kit works flawlessly and overclocked nicely to 2666MHz on close to stock timing with 1.

275v. Waiting to get an aftermarket CPU cooler before overclocking the CPU but I have benched a little at 3. 8GHz. I had issues with crashing on the Asus Aura RGP software when opening it but resolved that by installing the 1.

3GB AMD chipset drivers. I love this system and the R5 1600 works very nicely in games with my EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SC. I have been a fan of AMD since the Athlon Thunderbird days and was so excited for Ryzen to bring AMD back into being competitive with Intel at the mid to high-end CPU market.

AMD delivered and then some with Ryzen. AMD says the AM4 platform will be supported through around 2020 and support future iterations of Zen. I highly recommend the R5 1600, especially if you don’t need the extra cores/threads of the R7 1700, 1700X, and 1800X.

While I absolutely love the value you get with the R7 1700 and its amazing power efficiency for an 8 core CPU, it just didn’t make sense to pay the extra $100 for me over the R5 1600. AMD is back on the map and finally making Intel sweat.

Having competition back in the CPU market again means the people that win is us and that’s a very good thing!.

If you already have an AM4 motherboard or are building a PC that doesnt need AMDs HEDT platform (and if you can afford it) Buy this CPU. Youre getting World Leading Technology!! I am stunned at the performance of this chip.

In many cases, it is the fastest CPU in the world, right out of the box. I have not overclocked this chip and I am not going to. This thing already boosts to 4. 7Ghz and holds at 4. 2-4. 3Ghz with all 32 logical cores at %100.

After a 24-hour stress test and this thing was sitting at 63c (I have phenomenal cooling, but still. that is Incredible. S. I got this board with a Ryzen 1700 when AM4 released. I paired it with expensive (and Awesome) G. Skill Flare X Samsung B-die memory bc RAM compatibility and getting maximum performance was tricky back then.

The AM4 platform has grown up so much though. These days even my old X370 motherboard will take just about any RAM kit with no issues; making it a very affordable platform with an unbelievably varied offering of economical and high-performance parts.

Extremely grateful for what AMD has delivered with AM4 and with the 3950X. Bravo.

I’m very happy I purchased it. I also installed a Be Quiet duel fan cooler, that keeps the Cpu at 52c / 53c at idle. On the bench stress test, the high temp was 56c. For those DIY’s just follow the basics’ clean your motherboard mount for your CPU, always be careful handling your CPU during install.

Double-check your Bios and if needed download new bio’s to a thumb drive for your Bios Flash. I’ve built over 30 computers for family and friends and upgrade mine about every two years. I make all my builds future proof for upgrades when needed.

Let your budget be your friend’ spend your money on CPU and Graphics card. A middle price range Motherboard work just fine, you don’t have to spend big money on an MB to get a fantastic all-around home computer.

I recently built my first workstation. I went with parts that were intentionally a little overkill BUT it handles any CPU driven task like its nothing. I have my 3950x paired with a NZXT x63 280mm AIO in a Thermaltake open air case so its not like heat can build up.

It acts more as a test bench. That being said, I think I’ve only pushed it above 70C once while rendering some hefty Rhino3DGrasshopper designs. It usually hovers around 35-45C depending on workload.

Rendering the same design in my old PC (a first gen Microsoft studio 2nd tier) the Grasshopper algorithm took an average of 55min to process. With this new build it took maybe 3 minutes. The thing is a monster.

I don’t game at all so it remains untested there.

The 5700X is very similar to my 5600X except two extra cores and better thermals. About 20% faster at rendering while consuming the same 78 watts of power and running 10 degrees cooler. Gaming performance is top stuff.

Idle temps on my DRP4 around 30 degrees, max gaming of 72 degrees, max rendering of 58 degrees. It consumes a few extra watts while gaming but of course that’s due to the extra cores. As with all AM4 chips, no expensive DDR5 required and great backwards compatibility on very affordable motherboards.

The 5700X is cheaper than the 5600X used to be as well. Very hard to fault at this price point.

Great CPU to upgrade to if you’re already on the AM4 platform to extend the lifespan of your system. Fit my needs as I do productivity and gaming on my PC. Very power-efficient CPU, so I could keep my 600w PSU (using together with an RTX 3070), which also means a budget air cooler is enough to keep it cool.

Something like a DeepCool AK400 already works great. Harder to recommend for new PC builds (unless you’re looking for a very power-efficient CPU) as Intel offerings are very competitive, and next-gen CPUs are also coming later this year.

My first AMD CPU ever. I have been a lifelong Intel person. not anymore. This thing is a MASSIVE boost in gaming coming from an i7 3770k which has been a beast since 2013 when i first bought it. Paired with an ASUS ROG Strix B550 MOBO, 32gb of Dominator Platinum RAM and a ASUS TUF RTX 3060 and i am literally in heaven because of this CPU.

I spent over $400 for an upgrade on 5 month old gaming computer and when geek squad gets done with it, I get back a broken gaming computer. I am very disappointed and upset. I brought my sons computer into the villages Geek Squad at Best Buy to have the processor upgraded.

When purchasing the first processor, which was an i7 10th gen processor bought in store, i was advised that they needed to check with a tech to make sure the motherboard would support it. They came back and advised me that the mother board would support it.

I Dropped the computer off on scheduled date and was told when I picked it up that now the motherboard would not support the processor and I needed a i7 9th gen. When advising them of what I was told the day before, the just said that was incorrect and they didn’t know who said it.

Ok, no biggie, ordered a new one and scheduled another date to drop the computer off. After leaving it for a day, I go to pick it up and see the lady had a part of the computer separate. I was then advised that the computer had a yellow screen when they turned it on, after the new processor placed.

and that the graphics card is bad and needs to be replaced. I am furious. My son was on that computer until the day it was dropped off and it was working fine. Now I pick it up after wanting just the i3 processor upgraded to an i7 processor, for the reason of my son wanting to play games that an i3 processor did not support and caused the computer to freeze.

I was told that they could not prove the computer worked before I got there and there was nothing they could do but sell me a new graphics card (approx. $300) Why would I bring a broken computer in to have an upgrade? If the graphics card was bad and screen was yellow, I would have brought it in for that.

I do plan to contact corporate about this situation.

Exceptionally powerful CPU. Probably way more powerful than I need for gaming but I wasn’t getting the performance I wanted from the 10400f. This has 2 more cores and at 1440p high settings rarely exceeds 50 to 60% usage.

It does get hot and as such an after market cooler is essential, with the stock intel cooler (Doesn’t come with one) it hits high 90 degrees. I paired it with a noctua and it maxes around 70 degrees.

I’ve looked into OCing it but given the performance I’m getting I don’t think it’s necessary on my current setup. If you do want to I’ve seen stable clocks around 5ghz. I have the KF and as such do not have onboard graphics but do a have a higher base clock than the standard f version.

The i7-10700K is Intel’s latest Core i7 offering, filling that niche in the new 10th gen “Comet Lake” series of desktop processors. It performs exceptionally well in gaming, which favors single-threaded performance and high frequency, both of which the 10700K offers in spades, while lagging behind AMD’s 3900X and 3950X in productivity workloads due to those chips having 50% and 100% more cores + threads, respectively.

Intel seems to have solved the glaring thermal issues that plagued the 8th and 9th gen CPUs by thinning out the IHS material, so the dies have closer contact with the cold plate on the cooling solution.

On its own, the 10700K is a 5-star chip, but in the broader context of the other 10th-gen Intel processors, it loses a star because its position amidst the rest of the 10th gen lineup essentially serves no purpose, as I’ll discuss.

Why do I say this? Well, the i5-10600K can easily be OC’ed to exceed the stock frequencies that the 10700K brings to the table. This means you can get essentially equal gaming performance compared to a stock 10700K, from a chip that costs half as much, because the reduction in core count has basically zero impact on FPS.

I’m not saying the 10700K clock speeds can’t be tuned up as well, but I’m stressing that its intended place in the gaming performance hierarchy can be usurped by a chip that retails for less than 250 bucks.

The 10600K is also a more OC’able CPU in its own right, and can be pushed harder relative to its base specs than the 10700K can relative to its own stock speeds. On the other side of the equation, the i9-10900K represents peak Comet Lake, offering the best performance for any type of workload that 10th gen has to offer, while only retailing for ~$100 more than the 10700K.

The 10900K is the undisputed performance king of this generation, beating the 10700K soundly both in terms of gaming (both single-core and all-core turbo are significantly faster) and productivity (aforementioned frequency advantage + an additional 2 cores / 4 threads to play with).

Does my criticism become slightly clearer in light of the role that the 10600K and the 10900K play? The 10700k is either a slightly better 10600K that costs ~100% more, or a much worse 10900K that costs only ~$100 less.

The 10700K doesn’t know what it wants to be, and the rest of 10th gen definitely does, which is why this chip is not the best purchase in the context of its generation.

Went from a 3600x to this. Prior system config had a number of issues, some were known causes (5700xt + PCIe gen 4, looking at you). With new setup, there were improvements across the board. Everything is smoother and faster.

Used primarily for gaming and photo editing, I was a little surprised at the improvement it brought to gaming. The fps improved noticeably, but more importantly everything also became smoother, fewer stutters and moments of lower frame count.

I don’t think the 3600x should have been bottlenecking anything on the prior configuration. I was able to rule out thermal paste or CPU cooler issues (and used the same on the new CPU) so whether some problems I had before were due to bad luck on the CPU lot draw, or improvements in other areas of CPU tech between generations, etc.

the end result was that the machine actually feels like it’s now high end, especially after upgrading the GPU now as well. Bottom line is that this is a great processor. It was hard to justify at the prices when released, but once it dropped below 400 after the 5800x3d cpu came out, I couldn’t pass it up.

It should last me some years before I feel the need to jump to the new socket. If you’re already on AM4 this is easily worth it, but if you need a full new system and can wait a bit, it might be better to get the newer gen socket when it comes out.

The Ryzen 9 5950X is an astonishing processor that delivers excellent multi-threaded performance at the consumer level. You have a basic high end desktop (HEDT) without the accompanying high end price.

It’s an expensive CPU, but in the context of its performance it’s a bargain. There are plenty of other reviews out there that attest to this. The main issue I would like to highlight are the thermals.

I upgraded from a first generation Ryzen 7 1700 which used an AIO 240 water cooled setup. This was fine for the 1700 but it cannot cope with the 5950X when it is running with all its cores. The temperature rapidly rises to 90 deg C and then thermal throttling kicks in to declock the processor cores and reduce the temperature.

I’m very impressed because I had run into heat issues with the 1700 at one time (I think there was a bubble in the water loop) and that CPU would just shut down rather than declock. I’m not at all disappointed.

I had purchased with an open mind knowing that an upgrade to the CPU cooling might be necessary — but not before I installed it to see whether it really was needed or not. This review is to let others know that if you want the best, you’ve got to be prepared to support it with some quality cooling.

Overall, I would say if you got one with good silicone, then lucky you. I do not recommend this product and especially not if you want to overclock it. I dont think it would handle it very well, and would kill the processor in no time.

I have overclocked my 3600x and it seems fine, but now I am scared that it is going to go out on me too. I went against the grain, and all my friends called me crazy for going AMD and I just kept saying, watch and see, well now I am the one looking like an idiot because I have this ROG Strix board here but no processor for it, and used the computer for school.

Pretty messed up if I must say so. There are absolutely no bent pins, I always monitor thermals on my computers, so this is just a junky garbage processor,. I was thinking of getting one of the new 5600x processors too, but I do believe I’ll be going back to Intel, even if I have to buy a whole new board and processor, because I know AMD will not warranty this product.

It was bought on 6/3/2020 so its almoooost 5 months old, gee I have had disposable contacts last longer than that. Can’t afford to buy a new processor every five months. If AMD will allow a return for the same unit then I will change my overall review, but as of right now, 2 eggs and 2 eggs only, and thats mainly because I like newegg and the processor did get here fast, and was easy to install.

The rest of the experience with it was gargbage.

When I decided I wanted to build my family in North Carolina their own PC, I wanted to give them something with some punch, that wasn’t going to be too demanding to maintain, and a little more budget-friendly.

I also had not worked with AMD’s Ryzen products yet, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. I knew the 2600 was the smart choice as it would give them the ability to do some more CPU-intensive tasks, and given the price at the time, it was the obvious choice.

I also chose the 2600 instead of the 2600X because I knew I could get a mild overclock and match the 2600X performance. This was also going to be my first air-cooled CPU (my first build was with an AIO and my second build is a custom loop), so I was eager to dive in.

Obviously, the CPU coming with a decent cooler was nice, although I later switched it out with a higher-performing Noctua cooler. It was a pleasant experience working with the 2600. Paired with an X470 ASUS Gaming-F board, it wasn’t that difficult to get the system up and running at stock settings.

It did take a bit to get a handle on the differences between BIOS settings on an AMD board versus an Intel board, but it wasn’t that bad and before long, I had dialed in a 4. 1Ghz overclock on the 2600.

4. 2 would boot, but no matter how much voltage I gave it, it couldn’t survive a stress test, so I settled on 4. 1, which was able to operate at 1. 3 volts (I believe; I could be wrong). With the Wraith Stealth cooler, temps would get around 70C or so, but that Noctua cooler knocked the overclocked temps down to a much nicer 60-65C.

Nearly a year later, there have been no reports of issues with the build and checking up on it during my vacation down there found everything to be in good condition once I cleaned things up a bit (they got a lecture about dusting and cleaning regularly).

I have nothing but nice things to say about the 2600 and Ryzen in general. No, it doesn’t clock as high as an Intel CPU, but for significantly cheaper, you still get solid performance. Nice job AMD!.

I had a 9700K OC to 5. 2 on Noctua dh-15 Chromax with no issues. I needed more threads for streaming so put in a 9900k. Always had random BSOD and almost never ran over the base clock so I put an all core OC to 4.

7. Temps initially never ran over 80C then started spiking to over 100C! Removed the OC and things never got better. Swapped MB, reloaded OS, still Bsod. swapped the 9700k back in and no problems. After contacting Intel for a replacement they proceeded to tell me I voided the warranty by overclocking it.

After brow beating them for almost 2 weeks about their marketing and advertising the “k” models as unlocked for more performance and headroom they agreed to replacement. Still I lost almost 6 weeks of use of my computer plus troubleshooting time.

(After all, how often does a CPU fail. ) Buyer beware, these chips are getting hard to find and my replacement is a Chinese market rebox, they may not be available for replacement if you get a bad one.

From ’06-’19 I had only built three PCs, including this one. It went as such: X6800–> 4790K –> 9900K I thought the jump to the 4790K would have been the biggest difference. Ya no. The move to the 9900K from the 4790K was absolutely insane.

Stock clocks this is a very powerful chip and would serve you well staying that way. Though many, including myself, will OC. It’s only natural I’d muse that the 9900K was the best of the 14nm line, including the KF/S.

There was/is no need (if you’re in the market on this socket set) to go for the others unless you want the brownie points on rarity. The chips that came later in the life-cycle seemed to have been binned well.

Discrete GPU and an OC on the K series is, for all intents and purposes, the same as the final two iterations. I held back on an OC until I purchased a case that could support a 240mm water solution, I had initially been running stock clock on a 90 to get by.

I have been on the 240mm cooling for just over a year, all core 5ghz at it sings. It runs warm as mentioned above but it doesn’t hit the thermal ceiling. **Make sure you cool these things properly, OC or not** It would remiss of me if I didn’t point out that I think there was a good amount of binning and silicon lottery going on.

I think I got very lucky with this one. I know many that have had stability issues running stock and even modest OC, let alone 5ghz and above. As stated above, this chip stock is amazing and will serve anyone well when it uses Turbo.

If you want some more out of it, a stable OC nearing 5ghz has been a sweet spot for me. Everything that I have thrown at it as been no problem. I would recommend this chip to anyone who is on this socket that wants to step up to the best of the generation.

In a desktop computer age dominated by AMD Ryzen processors, I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about buying an Intel processor for my first gaming machine. However, in the pursuit of saving money, I did so over its price competitor, the Ryzen 7 3700x, another 8-core 16-thread CPU, and I haven’t ever looked back.

An excellent CPU that runs smoothly and efficiently, doing exactly as advertised by making my multitasking, gaming, video editing, or day to day use just that much better. I’m not a huge overclocking guy, but I was able to get a 4.

6 all-core boost with my meager 120MM AIO. Without overclocks, the CPU runs at reasonable sub-45 C temps, and even under heavy load stays well under 80 degrees. To give some context, I am a prebuilt computer builder/ PC repairman who likes to stream, game, and produce content on the side.

Overall, the product has remained a gem even after 2+ years of newer CPU launches and I heavily recommend this for anyone who is looking to save money over the marginal-to-moderate performance gains in multi-threaded tasking that the Ryzen line of processors provide, while still packing a behemoth punch for all of today’s triple-A titles (assuming, of course, you’re packing hefty graphics down below).

P. S. Oh boy, does this thing game.

Great processor even though its four years old. If we aren’t counting refreshes and only architectures this Devil’s Canyon chip is only one generation behind current Intel offerings. Some people say that you’re better off upgrading to a whole new system; but if you are looking for a decent performance boost and you have a Haswell-compatible i3 or i5 system, this is a reasonable avenue to take imho.

These cost between $185 and $210 in early 2019- the price of new RAM, a competing processor performance-wise, and a worthwhile motherboard would be over double that. Though beware- stock coolers are not an option with the Haswell i7’s.

It stayed around 40c at idle, but once it was under any load longer than a few seconds it thermal throttles. It probably wouldn’t if Intel kept the same size aluminium heat sink and copper lug design from the Core 2 days, that thing was a decent cooler, but they are almost half the size with this series of processors.

Water or high thermal capacity air cooling only with these guys. That being said, I have delidded mine and applied liquid metal between the die and heat spreader. I have it nudged up to 4. 6ghz on overclock (seller, dont worry, i’m not going to demand a return)I see temps around 30c at idle and 50-55c while gaming.

Intense load like Aida64 or Prime95 get me up to the low 60’s, with my highest core peaking around 64c. I could push it higher, especially if I had a better motherboard than I do, but this setup should last a couple years at least.

I ordered an i7 4790k CPU, and that’s exactly what I got. No problems or hiccups, it just works like I would expect it to. I haven’t tried overclocking it or anything, not that overclockability would reflect on the seller in any way.

4 cores, 8 threads, handles all the multitasking and gaming I want to do with ease. It’s a pretty dated CPU at this point (late 2021), but it’s easily capable of doing what I want it to do (occasional gaming and heavy multitasking/productivity).

After seeing it deeply discounted against the newer Ryzen 3000 series, I went with this processor (paired with an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max) for a hybrid workstation-gaming setup and am pretty happy with the results.

8 cores with 16 threads results in fast render times for programs like After Effects and Blender while the single core performance is still pretty comparable to a newer 6 core processor like the Ryzen 5 3600 which will deliver slightly better performance in single core-reliant applications like games.

Temperatures under load are typically solid but sometimes poke past the 65C mark during intensive gaming scenarios even though CPU usage rarely rises above 50% in those situations. The included Wraith Prism cooler is more than good enough to get the job done and stays within acceptable volume on an adjusted curve.

My only complaint apparently relates to the Ryzen Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) feature. Performance with PBO enabled seems to make this chipset an incredible value, but my idle temperatures and voltage are *much* higher than expected.

This results in regular temperature spikes which, in turn, lead to an issue with inconsistent CPU fan noise as the fan speed spikes along to the temperature. I manually adjusted the fan curve in BIOS and mostly eliminated the inconsistent noise issue, but the high temps seem to remain.

AMD assures folks that this is regular behavior for PBO, but I’m still a tiny bit worried for the longevity of the processor even though I don’t plan to keep it for longer than 2 or 3 years. Aside from that, I’m happy with my purchase.

Even if performance degrades slightly over time due to PBO, it’s still an incredible value prior to the release of Ryzen 4000.

Ryzen 2000-series processors are being overshadowed by the recent release of Ryzen 3000, but these older processors are still relevant and still a bargain. This eight-core Ryzen 7 2700X offers similar multi-threaded performance as the six-core Ryzen 5 2600X, but it comes with a better cooler and offers more threads.

It also costs less than the 3600X ($199 versus $250 at the time of this review), making it significantly more cost-effective than the 3600X. Zen+ offers the same Precision Boost Overdrive feature that allows the processor to overclock itself with the right motherboard, power delivery, and temperature.

My 2700X was able to reach 4. 35GHz without any effort, and that’s with the Wraith Cooler included in the packaging. The 2700X will handle DDR4-3200 dual-rank kits with ease, but using four Micron E-die Crucial Ballistics 16GB memory sticks was too much for the IMC to handle.

It will only stay stable with the memory frequency lowered to 3000MHz or increasing the SoC voltage to 1. 35V On the flip side, I was able to reduce the core voltage with an offset of -0. 275V and keep the all-core clock speeds at 3.

7GHz. For comparison’s sake, my Ryzen 7 1800X could only manage 3. 2GHz at those same core voltage offset. I bet the 2700X can stay stable at a -0. 325V offset and stay stable at 3. 4GHz, making it an ideal platform for a low-TDP home server.

If you’ve just upgraded from a 2700X to a 3700X or better, don’t toss out your old processor! Buy a cheap B450 motherboard, some cheap DDR4-2400 memory kit, and undervolt the 2700X for an overkill home lab, media server, or back-up server.

Better yet, go into the UEFI menu and set the cTDP to 25-35W for a hassle-free option to underclock your old Ryzen processor.

I recently purchased this, as in two weeks before Zen2 release. I had come in store for a deal that was running on the 1700x. The price of this unit, along with clocks/feature made it more than worthwhile.

I am using this in an X370 Taichi and it’s working quite well in most respects. It readily hits 4GHz on stock settings, multi core, and have seen up to 4. 2 on a single thread. Temps in normal usage have never exceeded 63C.

Even running stress tests I have not seen it above 70C using a Cooler Master 212. The only temperature issue I have noted is that the idle temp is constantly ranging from low 30’s to low 40’s. I have tried repaste and various fan curves.

It appears it is not an uncommon issue to this CPU. It’s gaming performance is top notch. I have it paired with a GTX1080 and it runs everything I throw at it very smoothly at 1080P. It devours workloads, does Adobe tasks with ease, open as much as you can humanly work with and it’s fine with it.

I have yet to find any workload or game that truly puts a “stress” on this short of a synthetic test. As to overclocking. for some reason I am completely unable to OC this chip. My motherboard VRM should be perfectly capable of doing so, but any manner of frequency or voltage change and it crashes to a 00 (check CPU) code.

I have had a similar experience with XMP. My RAM is ADATA 2666 which ran fine at 29xx on the previously installed 1700. It will not run outside XMP parameters, which are essentially no change as Auto already picks that up.

Just the same, and in spite of what might be considered shortcomings, it is a very nice improvement on the previously installed CPU and actually runs cooler on load than the 1700 in spite of it’s much higher TDP.

I would more than recommend that if you have been waiting, are on the fence about, or looking for a great value in a work or play machine that this Zen+ series just took the sweet spot. In spite of Zen2 performance gains, it’s hard to discount the money saved that can be put somewhere else.

Im a terrible dad, I turned my kids GPUs that I bought into mining gear and now built them computers running off the 5600G. Ones 12 and the other is 6. They love Fortnite and Minecraft plus have a PS5, but theyre hooked on PC, but dont care about enthusiast level graphics and performance.

I was able to get Fortnite running 1080P epic with textures and view distance, shadows were down but anti aliasing was high and runs smooth like 45 FPS, so it can run 60 FPS with textures turned down, but not needed.

Minecraft was easily smooth and it ran Apex no problem. Luckily I can drop a GPU in later, but Yeesh by this time next year a 6600g might be out. Game performance seems to be on par with a 5700G. Ive been considering this setup for myself with the new GeForce Now offering a streaming service that provides RTX 3080 performance.

Its definitely worth a shot, resell value is so high. Itll only depreciate more than 10-20$ if you were to damage it. I have bought multiple of these, I have had no trouble with boards that were using 5000 series to begin with and Ive had no trouble with brand new boards, Ive had great luck with boards that were using 3000 series before, but only issues I had were when I bought used motherboards or refurbished motherboards.

I still have 3000 series chips to help with bios and all, but If youre building from scratch and youre buying a second hand or refurbished board, then good luck, my fail rate is like 60% with the boards, but to have backup boards to see that its not the CPUs fault.

Just pointing that out, because you can run into all kinds of stuff, cable loose, ram bad, psu gone bad, Ive had a case with a bad power button, to just swap everything over to another case to find out its just the power button.

I support second hand, I havent had any issues with second hand boards from trusted sellers on eBay, but I have from some of the so called top refurbishers found on Amazon and they can be found on eBay too, I dont believe theres much quality control happening on their end, when like new is Like Broken Actually and its why it was returned in the first place, then reboxed/refurbished whoops! Glob on the thermal paste strap on the easy diy fan and have some fun!.

I built a new system from scratch, and I wanted a powerful and versatile CPU that would handle a range of tasks gracefully and wouldn’t break the bank. I went with the Ryzen 5 5600G (integrated graphics) because I wasn’t ready to fork out the kind of money that GPU’s are fetching right now.

I paired this processer with an MSI B550 Mag Tomahawk mobo, 32 GB of G. Skill 3200 RAM, and an EVGA B5 series 750 Watt power supply. Before installing the cpu I flashed the motherboard BIOS as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

It was a simple and straightforward process. Upon completion of my build the system booted right up and has been running like a dream ever since (2-1/2 months). The Wraith Stealth cooler included with the cpu is extremely quiet, and keeps the temps low.

I use my machine for web browsing, word processing, video streaming, and heavy gaming. I don’t play the latest, greatest FPS games. My go-to games are Sniper: Ghost Warrior, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, and 7 Days to Die.

I sometimes game for hours at a time, and pull a consistent 30 -35 fps in all my games at moderate settings. I think this is more than acceptable for integrated graphics. (For comparison, my 2-year-old Ryzen 5 3500U laptop with Vega graphics would pull around 11 fps at the same settings).

The highest my cpu temps have gotten is 70 degrees C (about 158 degrees F). The machine has been reliable and stable, with no issues at all. I call this Ryzen 5 5600G a winner, and I’m looking forward to being able to pair it with a powerhouse GPU once prices come down a bit.

This is a good workstation CPU/GPU. I use it for light video editing on Adobe Premier Pro, work from home and ultrawide gaming. I had the Ryzen 1600 since launch with a B350 Tomahawk, and the upgrade path was do-able to the Ryzen 5000 series with the bios update (1.

2. 0. 7). For several factors, I chose the Ryzen 5700G: Gaming: – have an ultrawide 21:9, so scaling CPU did not matter, rather no performance gains on expensive CPUs. – did not need extra threads after 8-core in gaming (actually 6-core 5600 would suffice).

– higher core clock frequency at 4. 56 GHz vs 3. 8 GHz on R1600, which gets better performance on single-core. Workstation: – Adobe Premier Pro; good performance gain. – RAM at 3200 MHz (with current, not able hit with R1600).

– 8-core is sufficient for my light use of video editing. Upgrade path: – allowed me to push my MB/RAM/6900XT, 5 more years with just one upgrade. – 50%+ gains previous CPU. – chose this over a used 3700x, because it has a GPU, with better performance.

– since I had PCIE-3. 0 on existing MB, 5600x series would not benefit me, as I would have to spend on PCIE-4. 0 MBs, which defeats the purpose of a one-item upgrade. – don’t judge, but I actually like Windows 11, so it’s a plus.

R1600 was not on the recommended list. Long term use: – past my 5 years excepted use (assuming PCIE-5. 0/DDR5 has matured), I plan on turning this machine into a server, which eventually be a greater lifespan than what I actually am using for.

If was only strictly gaming, I would have chosen R5600. But my preference has changed to light workstation use, so 5700G is the perfect CPU for me. Overall, chose this over because new and old CPUS, since it has a middle ground performance of 3700x5600x/5700x with a GPU.

This in-turn will give me a longer life as it will turn into a server for my HomeLab.

I would HIGHLY recommend that people wait for places such as Newegg to have this CPU available. Even though the listed price went up to $399, at least when I bought mine, they offered $20 off for using the mobile app – so I paid basically ~$10 to $15 over MSRP, which I was willing to do as I had amassed a decent savings just for this VERY occasion, I had already ordered my ASRock Z370 Fatal1ty Gaming K6 before I even knew WHEN I would be able to buy this CPU, as again, Newegg had an AMAZING price on it, at just $170 – for ALL of the performance of the Fatal1ty Professional Gaming i7, or Maximus X Hero, just without built in WiFi, and 1 less M.

2 slot – that is literally it! I also already ordered my RAM, 2x 8 GB of G. Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 16-16-16-36, my Noctua NH-D15, and a 250 GB Samsung 960 EVO M. 2 for boot all BEFORE I knew when I would be able to use ANY of it! Because I KNOW prices on things such as the motherboards and RAM – probably even NVMe SSDs, will all go up by the time ALL of Coffee Lake is available to everyone at all times.

And speaking of my motherboard, I also cannot recommend my ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming K6 enough! As stated above, I was able to hit 4. 8 GHZ locked on all 6 cores, using AUTO Vcore! I am only using Automatic for now, while people are still learning all the little tips and tricks to the Z370 Platform and Coffee Lake CPU Overclocking.

Seeing as under Prime95, both max heat and Blend for prolonged periods still has never gotten any single core above 88 C with this automatic Vcore, I am PRETTY confident that once I really TRY, and learn all the ins and outs of manual Vcore, and Coffee Lake Overclocking on my Motherboard, as I had done with my 2600k + ASRock Z77 Extreme4, I am ALMOST certain that I will be able to hit 5 GHZ on all cores, comfortably using just my Noctua NH-D15 and highly ventilated case! It is therefore, I suppose, my OPINION that SOME people are REALLY overselling the “Heat Problem” this CPU has, and the supposed NEED to delid to hit ~5+ GHZ on all cores at all times.

In my experience so far, this CPU runs VERY COOL, cooler than my 2600k did at 4. 5 GHZ as well – and that CPU was soldered! Your mileage may vary of course, silicon lottery and all. But I think that 4.

8 GHZ should not be a problem for anyone with halfway decent CPU cooling! Also, ASRock is perhaps the best Mobo company in the game. They care more about functionality than gimmicks and “looking perfect and pretty” As I have stated above, my $170 Fatal1ty Gaming K6 is FUNCTIONALLY identical to the ~$250 Fatal1ty Professional Gaming i7, the VRM components, the board design, the BASE features (how everything functions, as well as I/O ignoring small differences like an extra M.

2 slot) – everything that MATTERS FOR PERFORMANCE – is literally IDENTICAL! Whereas Asus has WIDELY varying performance based on the model you buy, making only the Maximus X, and one of the 3 or 4 STRIX boards a SAFE bet to perform well.

If you read motherboard reviews that go in depth, and even do performance comparisons, you will find ASRock to always be near or at the top of the pack, with the Fatal1ty Gaming K6 and Professional Gaming i7 performing identically – often matching or exceeding the Maximus X Hero, with nonsense such as MSI Godlike Gaming (WHAT A LOAD! $500 Mobo, for a CPU that will not cost more than $380!) – often middling the pack!.

Get an M. 2 2280 near or above 3000Mbs + of write speed. Even a conventional SSD will be a bottleneck. I upgraded from a Samsung EVO and I feel the difference. My past experience with my first ASRock MB was that getting just one core to 5GHz was very difficult (due to stability and/or thermal throttling on those last two cores).

This could have partly been the motherboard to blame. I updated the firmware and disabled thermal throttling in UEFI and the issue went away, but a nearly 30*C temp difference between core 4-and- cores 5/6 was bad.

This really shows that this was an Intel afterthought just to combat Ryzen and make people forget that there had been 3-generations without any substantive IPC improvement, and no significant generational leap in IPC since Sandy-bridge.

Most games and programs don’t seem to care about cores as much as single-thread performance, but I am enjoying the benefits of multi-tasking. I am hoping that Ryzen and Coffee Lake finally shifts the paradigm and that future DX12/ Vulcan titles are able to really leverage all the cores.

My hope was that the present upgrade over Sandy Bridge justified the purchase, and the extra cores would make it “future-proof”. My initial conclusion, 2-years ago when I bought this, was that, on the merits of gaming and 99% of normal use, unless you have money to burn in a pile, if you have an old Sandy Bridge/ Ivy Bridge i7″K” lying around.

The time to upgrade was NOT YET. HOWEVER (UPDATE) Looking back, I have 180*degrees changed my opinion. This CPU costs about $360. 00 and my old Sandy Bridge had been $270. 00 when new. This CPU is good enough to do 4K HTC Vive Pro VR while multi-tasking if you wanted.

My old argument was based on how little different the new CPU was from the “good-enough” 1080p experience of my old i7-2600K, but in hindsight, the difference between them is night and day. I have started playing with 3D-modeling and rendering, and have VR now, etc.

There is just so much more I can do with this that would have been cumbersome or impossible with my older 2nd-gen. Looking at this I see now that this is positioned at a price-point where it gives much better value than a 9700K, or a 9900K, and is better for gaming than a Ryzen.

If you are looking to upgrade from anything older than a 7700K, I’d say that this is worth the money. Thanks to Ryzen’s competition, Intel has given us the new Intel version of the “Mor Corez” paradigm shift, and for me there is no going back.

2 years later, I love this CPU more than ever before. It seems like I am on a journey to discover its potential, and it just keeps getting better.

A hot mess and an overpriced paper launch: Intel’s EPYC failure of an attempt of Ryzen to the occasion against AMD. Did you ever think the 7700K was slightly too hot for comfort in your build but barely managed anyhow? Take all the ills and missteps of the thermals of the 7700K and magnify them to unimaginable levels in this flagship mainstream processor.

Though you would expect a mainstream-targeted processor outside of the HEDT X299 line to be entry-level builder friendly, the 8700K is actually more demanding than the 7800X and practically requires liquid cooling.

In testing, the 8700K, with a $150+ premium AIO like the NZXT Kraken X62 or the Alphacool Eisbear 420, has been found to be up to 20 degrees hotter than its predecessor. Google “8700K temperature” and you will find numerous accounts of reviewers and users having temperatures in the 80 and 90 degree Celsius range while constantly hitting thermal throttling.

Do not even remotely consider pairing a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO with this hot shot or throwing this fiery devil into a small form factor case like the RVZ02 or the DAN Cases A4-SFX. Intel is making the same mistakes from the darker times of its past and is returning to its Pentium 4 ways with this underwhelming, steaming pile of product.

Practically speaking, Ryzen also achieves much greater than 60 fps in most games (not even the 8700K can achieve 144 fps+ for high refresh rate monitors unless you drop graphical settings to levels where Ryzen is practically on the same footing) and still has the upper hand in multi-threaded performance and power consumption.

My strong suggestion: either (1) purchase a Ryzen 7 1700 processor and overclock it to 1800X levels, (2) wait until the 12nm Ryzen refresh comes out in February/March 2018, or (3) wait a bit longer for 7nm Zen 2 (SemiAccurate, a costly but highly reputable professional tech industry news outlet, affirms Zen 2 is still on schedule) to come out by the end of 2018.

I’ve been an happy owner and user since May 2020, I should point out that I’m not only gaming with my product I also use it for CAD, Simulations, Development and other heavy workloads like Ray Traced rendering, the Threadripper 3990X helps me throughout these workflows and loads by not being held back by a lower core/thread count, thus I can render stuff more easily and faster than ever before.

If you need this kind of processing power, just get it, it’s a strong piece of technology that really does what we ask it to do. Albeit being held back by quad channel DDR4/DDR4-ECC, the CPU is more than capable when paired with the right amount of RAM.

This is exactly what I anticipated and wanted for the product to be on most points, so, hats off AMD and thanks Digitec for selling it, you outdid yourselves on this, my current system and I thank you !.

Renders at 3. 3ghz ALL CORES, ~4. 4GHz in games. all under 64 degrees on a noctua air cooler, This thing is phenomenal! Im not even mad that it cost so much Honestly, it’ll pay for itself if you can utilize all of the cores in your workload.

This chip is also capable for doing a lot of things at once with virtually no speed penalties. The 3990x is incredible. Period. This processor handle rendering tasks better than anything else on the market but its also extremely good at everything else.

Usually we pick, high core count, or high clock speeds; but with this, we have it all. The IPC gains with zen 2 make an appearance, my ~4. 4ghz gaming experience bested my 4. 7 ghz 5960x on every game.

I cant say enough good things about this chip. Well done AMD.

Nothing short of an Epyc CPU beats this chip, and indeed in some cases this chip outperforms its Epyc equivalent. This chip hasn’t stuttered in on anything I’ve thrown at it. It can render complex animations with multiple layers in seconds, which on other vendor CPUs can take 10s of minutes.

This is orders of magnitude better. No other CPU for the indie professional is better right now.

The 6700k is still relevant, and still gives me 100fps in Days Gone (Steam) on all high settings at 1440p with shadows and lighting on medium (barely even noticeable difference). Gets about 50-56fps in Cyber Punk 2077 with DLSS on, and minimal/no RT features on.

With an RTX 2070. Intel is still using the 14nm process, but its been highly revised and altered/updated since 6000 series CPUs. Theyve been able to squeeze way more cores and way higher clock speed in the latest models.

So 6700k is pretty behind in its raw power and multithreaded performance compared the latest CPUs.

While the 6700k and and the 4790k perform pretty closely in games, the 6700k adds new features that the 4790k lacks, and for me, the added expense is fully justified. DDR4 RAM, while more expensive, is faster.

The 6700k itself is power power efficient, electricity is not free. The 4790k is not as future-proof as the 6700k, as Z170 motherboards (And of course the accompanying Skylake processors) have support now for USB 3.

1 Gen 2, which is a very nice new feature, PCIe 3. 0 x4 M. 2 support for hilariously faster storage speeds, and if you buy a motherboard with support for it, ThunderBolt 3 support, which is just another feature with ludicrous data transfer speed.

In conclusion, the 6700k is more expensive than the 4790k. Whether or not the price difference is worth it is entirely up to your use case, but in my opinion, if any one of the newer features I mentioned sounds like something you would use, it’s worth the premium.

Doubly so if you plan on acquiring a new smartphone in the next few years, as USB Type-C is quickly becoming a standard on smartphones, as well. If you’re considering whether to purchase the 6700k or go for the 6800k, I would suggest viewing HardwareCanucks’ video comparison between the two.

It should address any information needed for most people to make the decision.

I realize this is partially the chipset failure (Z170), but it needs USB 3. 1 support. The 6700k with the Z170 chipset has massive issues trying to actually deliver everything it promises. The chipset allows for multiple M.

2 SSDs (2 and even 3 on some motherboards), but if you put 2 current NVMe SSDs capable of 2500MB/s reads in a RAID-0 you will quickly hit the 4GB/s bandwidth limitation of the chipset to CPU link. In theory it should be around 5000MB/s, but it only hits around 3500MB/s.

That and with both M. 2 slots filled, there isn’t enough PCIe lanes left over for the rest of the system — on my motherboard, it disables all 3 of it’s SATA Express ports (or forces one SSD to run at half speed which isn’t much of an option).

Without an operational SATA Express port, the USB 3. 1 front port connection doesn’t work. Odd that a USB 3. 1 port connects via SATA Express, but it does. With the limited PCIe lanes available off the processor itself, motherboard manufacturers then have to play games with switches to try and support SLI/Crossfire which increases the cost of the motherboard significantly.

Seriously Intel, get your stuff together. It’s 2016. Your best desktop gaming processor needs more PCIe lanes, and quad channel memory support. Your chipset needs USB 3. 1 support, and more SATA 3/Sata Express ports and don’t share them with the M.

The i7-12700 (non-K) is hard to beat. It offers you very nearly the same performance as the 12700K at a hefty price discount. And it comes with a stock cooler, which is plenty adequate if you choose to run the CPU at a 65W power limit.

I’m not saying you should do that, but it’s an option, and a nice one to have in a pinch. In any case, even at 65W the CPU performs quite well. Look up Techspot’s review of the i7-12700 and the MSI B660 MAG Mortar.

If you do choose to unlock the power limit (and do try to figure out whether your motherboard supports that before buying), then you will need a pretty beefy aftermarket cooler. This thing runs very hot at full power.

ATM I’m running it with a Noctua NH-D15, which is about as strong as air coolers get these days, and the CPU can still hit 85 degrees in Cinebench. Other than the heat, my only reservation is that Intel locks the SA voltage regulator on non-K Alder Lake CPUs, which may make it difficult for you to hit XMP speeds on your RAM.

As I understand it, 3200 MT/s is essentially a hard limit for DDR4 on these CPUs. This isn’t really a knock on the CPU, just something to keep in mind if you were planning to take advantage of what Intel calls memory overclocking.

I’ve also heard that certain “K” chips won’t go higher than 3200 MT/s, either. Might be luck of the draw there. The memory thing won’t make a big difference either way, though.

A locked, overclockable i7 that only pulls around the TDP rating while gaming, so it’s very easy to cool and quiet about it, too. This thing does it all, but don’t expect a great overclock as i7s are already near the limit of the silicon.

Fortunately, the locked i3 and i5s can also be overclocked with much larger performance jumps due to more headroom. If you really want to know how to overclock them, there are a couple instructional vids out there, but be warned, there’s no guarantee you can get it back to stock settings.

What more can you say about it. Good price, in stock! Getting the newest generation CPU for your home PC rebuild! Comes with that “new PC smell” and a cooler in the box. Absolutely blazing when paired with M2 NVme PCIE 4 SSD.
