Paired the Intel i9-12900 CPU with a GIGABYTE B660 AORUS MASTER DDR4 motherboard, and G. SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 Memory. Initially tried cooling with stock cooler, but the temp was idling in the high 40s range; so installed the Noctua NH-D15, Premium CPU Cooler.

The Noctua cooler keeps the CPU temp at idle in the high 30s range. I have a fair amount of background apps running, so this works well for me. I stopped some background APPS, and CPU temps hovered mid 30’s.

Most reviews that I have come across for this CPU indicate it runs a bit on the hot side at idle anyway. I then performed CPU stress testing by taking the CPU to full capacity for about 5 minutes. The CPU topped out at 91 degrees C with no issues.

The Noctua cooler is highly recommended for air-cooled cooling, and the majority of reviews I looked at stated water cooling was preferred. Since I only run the CPU at moderate levels, the Noctua CPU cooler has worked just fine for me.

This rig was placed in a DIYPC Vanguard-V8-RGB case, which had plenty of room for components. I must say that the case was great to work with, and thought out well. The Intel i9-12900 CPU is operating very well under Windows 11 and the core equipment noted in this review.

Altho this chip is hot I got a MSI carbon ek with the monoblock and it keeps it cool. Runs about %10 faster then my 9900kf at 5. 2ghz all core. I do a lot of emulating and gaming so this is perfect for me.

I was going to get 12900k but I don’t need extra cores yet and I’m happy for the price z590 way cheaper then z690. AVX 512 won’t get disabled as I want that for PS3 emulating. After over a months use I would not recommend this cpu if you like to OC.

This cpu can’t do 5. 1ghz all core even on 1. 4 volt and it gets over 100c on the cores lololol. But it will run 5. 1 all core and 5. 3 on 2 cores. this cpu hate manual overclocking. Single and dual threaded apps and games run at 5.

3 I like that but it’s still hot I wish It was delidable. Update. Ok so I got concerned about my core temps so I decided to pull apart my whole system just to see what was up. I used the CPU past from the EK mono block and the cpu was fully covered however the CPU socket locking mechanism was a bit loose.

I cleaned up the EK paste and tighten the cpu socket on the MSI MB and I used liquid metal on the IHS. Wow what a difference. I am able to hit 5. 2ghz at 1. 36 volt on LLC 4 fully loaded temps max temps 60-80C I’m seeing 20C lower temps and now this chip is about %15 faster than my = clocked 9900kf but it takes 1.

42 volt. Never had a loose cpu socket ever and I almost sent these parts back. This cpu is now -$100 so it’s a damn good deal my problem was the MB was faulty. This 11900kf at 5. 2ghz -2avx DDR 4800mhz all the cores temps line up so I am super happy now my system is runny a bit faster and much cooler.

Another update. Running 4. 8ghz all core 1. 35 volt -0 avx pulling about 200watts max load. At 5. 2ghz -0 avx max load 360watts LOL!!! Also just upgraded to Samsung B die dual rank 32gb ddr4 3600 at 15-15-15-35.

Be warned that you may get an open box product with no indication anywhere on the listing. The Intel factory seal sticker was cut upon arrival. Box was also clearly handled, I didn’t notice until I went to open the box.

Product does work just fine as of writing this but who knows what will happen. The CPU cooler was without the pre-applied thermal paste which unless you have some can push your completed build a few days back.

Although seller problems aside, it’s a great value processer for less than $90. You can’t beat the gaming or even desktop performance with anything in the same price bracket. Would highly recommend if you’re on a tight budget.

This processor is a monster in this price range you cannot get any better at 80 euros the performance is spectacular and there is nothing in comparison with AMD. The processor came in a very well small box package.

It runs at appropriate speeds with an ASRock motherboard. The performance is same or better or as a 7700 non K. For esports titles with a budget build its simply the best you can get at this moment in this price segment.

If you are in a tight budget there is absolutely no reason to consider the 10400 for example. The CPU works along a GTX 1060 -3 gigabytes and its smooth as butter in games like battlefield 5 Overwatch CS go and rainbow 6.

Pair this with a 510 motherboard and you are good to go for at least two three years with a discrete graphics card.

Its fast, very stable on Z590 and can still drive modern GPUs adequately. There is no need to spend $100’s on a cpu when Microcenter has been selling this for $89-99. I presently use mine for cryptomining in an open air setup on Windows 10 but I’ve also gamed with these.

I do use an aftermarket cooler because I like them to run quietly but the included cooler is adequate. This is the equivalent cpu of intel’s former flagship i7 of just a few years ago with new AVX2 and AES extensions, faster speeds and lower watt requirements.

Lenovo T60 – durable battle tanks are quite a value nowadays down from their original MSRP – shipped with Core2Duo T2400 32 bit CPU with 2MB cache, still speedy enough for office use, but are limited to 3GB memory.

The Zero-Insertion-Force Socket 478/N, Socket 479 or ‘Socket N’ – a simple half twist of the lock ‘screw’ releases the chip to lift away like a breeze and swap in this recommended replacement. The next chip up is the top t7600 which adds only the ability to overclock and are $40 or more.

I found lot of 10 Core 2 Duo T7400 2. 16GHz with 4meg cache running on 667MHz DMA bus at $10 each $11. 50 with tax and shipping from China SpeedPak. While worth the wait I was surprised at half of the estimated month delivery.

YouTube shows how simple it is to DIY swap. I vacuumed the fan/heat-sink while I had it out for the CPU replace – remember to scrub off the thermal paste residue & don’t forget to reconnect the fan plug or get ‘fan error’ on boot.

One can utilize existing memory but speeds will be limited unless rated above 666MHz – while you have it open swap ’em if you got ’em. For me the simple upgrade allows more powerful Win7Ultimate which dual boots with 64bit Ubuntu (easier to upgrade and far less intrusive as Win11 to my personal life) increases my software options.

The CPU chip has a greater surface area and runs several Watts hotter so I’m glad my seller included a squeeze packet of thermal paste. Graphene is a superior heat conductor and I have a gallon of Slip/Plate #1 to drip onto the fresh cleaned CPU surface -more than I can use up in a lifetime but hard to remove completely when dry.

Performance is not a straight comparison of 64bit v. 32 CPU as the memory is effectively halved because each memory location is now twice as wide yet the former. The old 3GB limit now recognizes 4GB so drop in 4GB (2x2GB) while I was in there.

Choose 666MHz DDR 2 with 8 small RAM chips each side as opposed to 4 large per side as they are twice as efficient seek time. The real comparison comes by application – Teaching my grandchildren computing/programming/penetration-testing/networking.

I can USB LiveBoot any number of OS as with a Pi and any lessons learned from a Pi3+ can be learned by using the laptop to SHH into a headless Pi Zero.

The backwards compatibility and wide utility of laptop upgrade cost less, is more versatile and durable enough to follow them through college. It might be taxed calculating astrophysics but a quiet durable keyboard and Notepad are all one really needs for a doctoral dissertation and for that the upgrade from T2400 to T7200 should outlast the application.

This CPU is worth the money, given that it extends the useful life of your laptop PC for a bit longer – so you don’t end up dumping it. Generally, you’d want to run legacy sofware (e. g. Win-XP) on such a PC, or better still to use a lightweight Linux distro such as “Lubuntu”.

Additionally, you’d only be using your PC for simple stuff like web-browsing, online shopping and a bit of word-processing. You wouldn’t be using it for video-editing or math-modelling. Don’t lose sight of the fact that even after the upgrade all you have is a 32-bit Core Duo CPU – so it’s never going to be ultra-fast.

So, you have to be realistic about what this CPU upgrade will actually give you. The good news is that the increase in CPU performance is about 25% – which should give a extra couple of years of useful life from your laptop, and so long as you haven’t paid more than about $6 US dollars for the upgrade then you won’t have much to complain about.

Ultimately, it all boils down to “bangs per buck”. Certainly, I have no complaints given what the CPU upgrade cost me.

The 10 9600 chip fit perfectly into my laptop. I only had to remove four screws to get the cover off and then another four screws to get the heat sink off. After cleaning the cat hair out of the heat sink radiator I said it aside pulled out the old chip and install the new one I had to scrape the old thermal paste off of the bottom of the heat sink so the new paste would make good contact.

I didnt have any paste it first so I installed the heat sink and put the cover back on to test how the chip worked. Everything booted up just fine and was very quick using windows 10 pro. The fan did still come on quite a bit even with all that cat hair out of the heat sink but not as much as before.

When the thermal paste arrived I remove the cover and heat sink and applied the paste and put it all back together. Now the fan barely comes on at all. Very happy customer.

cheap, dual core, locked, little cache. Do not be misleaded by comparatives with an i9, that was single thread with ridiculously expensive motherboards and ddr5. It is slow because it is made to be like that.

Works just to browse the web and a few small things.

Purchased for a mining rig, so it is not getting pushed really hard, but it is easy to install, runs solid for extended periods (I only reboot when working on cards, etc. ). Would use it again if need arose.

The only down side is that for tech several years old, it is pretty pricey. Hard to predict these things.

I’m a renderer and a gamer, so wanted something which was the best of both worlds. I wanted a 7900X but decided to see, for a few hundred more, if I could go nuts with a second hand 7960X. What a monster.

Even with windows set in “balanced performance” mode, this thing is noticeably faster than my last rig (2600K overclocked to 4. 5Ghz) doing single threaded work. I was planning on overclocking it, but not sure if I need to.

My GTX680 is now the new bottleneck with heavy video rendering. In Windows 10 Balanced mode it sits all cores at 1. 2Ghz when idle, 2. 8Ghz when a little bit busy, and easily full throttle to 4. 4Ghz on 2 cores (or 3.

6Ghz all cores) when doing something strenuous. The most strenuous thing I did recently was a 6GB exe file winzip compress, with munched 100% CPU and all 32GB of RAM (nice to see all resources being used), and it did it in under a minute, which would have taken my last machine 5-10 mins to do.

Runs surprisingly cool and draws only 26W when in balanced power mode at idle. Obviously it rockets when you do anything strenuous. Cooling wise, I’d recommend an AIO waterblock as it turbo’s so aggressively it requires the heat to be taken away quickly and efficiently.

I’m using a Kraken 62 and it’s as cold as an iceberg. It is rumoured to have better thermals than a 7900X because of the larger die-size (spreads the heat out over larger surface area under the heat spreader) which might be true.

But it might be more because its clocked lower. I had also read that anything above 20 threads and older apps may not work (20 logical core max). As this has 32 with HT on, and I am an avid user of oldskool programs (including oldskool games like Unreal 1998), I feared I’d be turning HT off.

However, with my full compliment of apps and games, I report no issues. Even Unreal and Soundforge XP from the early 2000s (the latter notoriously unstable). The increased CPU PCIe lanes are a godsend for expandability, but make sure you get a motherboard with a sensible configuration of PCIe slots.

Motherboard manufacturers still insist in supporting the unpopular KabyLake-X CPUs, which causes the designers to do things a little silly with CPU PCIe lane slot configuration, and often makes for awkward placements of GPUs if you don’t want the heatsinks covering up valuable CPU-driven PCIe slots.

What I’m saying is, plan your PCIe configuration before buying the motherboard (Gigabyte have done this a little bit on my Designare EX, which is a shame). With X299 mobos you also often have 1 slot less than mainstream processor boards, as the 8 memory channelsand lower CPU position take up space.

Something to consider. Back to the processor; absolutely nuts, worth the money if you’re going to make use of all 32 threads. I will say this now, if all you want to do is play games, don’t waste your money.

These are hybrid server-class CPUs which have been modified by Intel to be the best of both worlds (single & multi thread) but you really don’t need any more than 8 threads if you’re gaming. Streaming however, and VR, are other matters which you may want more than 8 threads for.

5/5, money (for me) well spent. What a beast.

Pros: You may heard lots of negative comment about X299, but please forget them if you want both single and muti-thread performance. OMG, this thing is fast, fast at stock, and can be overclocked to over 4.

5GHz while Threadripper start to struggle just over 4. 0GHz. Simlar mult-core performance to Threadripper 2950x, but in term of single thread and overclocking performance, 7940x is miles ahead. It’s not really that more expansive that Threadripper because x299 motherboards are usually cheaper than x399 boards, and you need a very expensive cooler designed just for Threadripper socket while i9 can use most cooler on market, the overall cost is similar.

You will not run into any software compatibility issues like Threadripper. Forget about Threadripper, this is what you want if you are a professional CAE engineer or content creater. Cons: Intel is still using their bad theremal interface materal in a 1000 pound CPU, it gets really hot when you overclock it.

You need to delid it and add some real theremal paste or liquid metal to unlock it’s true performance, but you will risk damageing a 1000 pound CPU. It’s your choice.

Well. it was an expensive toy for me. I write code, compile code, run tests, have a couple of browsers with tons of tabs open, run a couple of VMs. All of this under Linux. I upgraded from a i7-4770 which would normally run on its boost clock around 3.

7-3. 9Ghz on all four cores. The i9-7900x boosts to about 4. 16Ghz on all 10 cores and generally single-threaded tasks complete 20% faster. But that’s only when I measure them. Otherwise the extra speed is not felt.

Temperatures haven’t been a problem for me. I run it air-cooled with Noctua NH-D15S (which itself is quite ridiculous). During the heaviest builds when all 10 cores are maxed out at 100% I observe temperatures of 78-85C.

Well. it feels nice to own such a beast. But frankly for my workloads a Ryzen 1800x would have been a much more sensible purchase. [EDIT] Actually after doing some heavy compiling on it, I take it back: the performance is pretty insane.

Let 3. 3Ghz base clock not fool you, because it’s only applicable to AVX512 workloads, which isn’t something most people do every day. For all intents and purposes it’s a 4. 16Ghz 10-core Skylake which boosts to 4.

5Ghz on two cores when needed. It is more or less twice as fast as my Ryzen 1700 compiling the same projects (and the Ryzen itself was quite an upgrade for me). What a beast. the performance is simply obscene.

First and foremost, settings, the Z97 and Z170 chipset (Nevermind the Z270, basically a Z170 with two extra PCIe lanes and same BIOS) are very similar in settings and BIOS, but this Z390 and BIOS is a whole new thing, to me, it seems like basically, the pre-settings are set in a manner that you won’t go over a certain temperature range unless you fiddle with the BIOS and change them yourself.

Otherwise, the system will reboot when it hits a certain pre-set temperature. In my case, it was 95C which I didn’t understand why? Maybe because this time around it’s 8 cores and a pretty expensive chip to replace Intel doesn’t want you to break it prematurely, thus influencing the board manufacturers (ASUS in my case) to not allow the CPU to pass 100c.

My Z170 would throttle, this Z390 doesn’t, it just reboots. Now it won’t and temps are great. but!!!! So, after concluding that I couldn’t use an HSF, like the Dark Rock Pro 4 in my case, mainly because I can’t use the two sets of Corsair Platinum RGB, I opted to consider an AIO but those are not 100% reliable IMO, though I had a 280 RAD in my 7700K and the DRP4 is doing a better job at cooling it than the RAD AIO.

I paired my CPU with the best cooling solution possible I could find, the Corsair Hydro X series, which not only does an exceptional job at cooling my CPU but also the aesthetics were my main goal, and performance also and ultimately seeing the 4 Corsair Platinum modules.

The pump is relatively quiet, even at full speed and the fans are so quiet as well (Fractal Static pressure non RGB). It is worth the price paid? It all depends on your budget and the length of time you’re planning on keeping the system and how serious you’re about overclocking or getting the best possible cooling solution.

This processor is a great performer, just a matter of getting good cooling and BIOS settings you’re good to get the 5. 0GHz the CPU is meant to run at, otherwise, you’ll see only 4. 6GHz but it’ll keep going.

For air cooling, I believe and from my experience the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 is the best, you’ll pay the same price for the other option but less appealing IMO. And skimping on the cooler? Big mistake.

This is an Intel with 8 cores, not a well-known brand for running cool with less than stellar heat-sink/fans.

Works fantastic, easily clocks to 5ghz on all cores, however be prepared for some serious heat, especially under load and/or bench-marking. Make sure you have a decent sized AIO water cooler or a super awesome amazing air cooler before attempting to overclock or push this chip.

Performance wise my focus is purely gaming, and it eats games for breakfast. Playing at 100fps on brand new titles like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey like it’s nothing, plenty of headroom to spare. Barring any massive game changing development in the next few years (DDR5 ram er, maybe?) this should future proof you about as well as any chip could, probably 3 to 5 years depending on what next gen consoles launch with (Meaning if PS5 launches with 16 cores (very doubtful) that may become the standard for games and your 8 core 16 thread pc starts looking old hat (even more doubtful).

ANYway, barring something totally left field like that, I can’t see anything gaming wise this thing won’t be able to devour for years to come. I’m satisfied with my purchase, and the price (bought at $530) IS high but doesn’t bother me too much because they have a price point for most everyone, with 9700k, 9600k, 8700k, all more than capable of fantastic gaming performance at lower price points.

Let’s be clear, I’m of the opinion you don’t buy this for gaming because you need it, you buy it because it’s the best (mainstream) cpu out there, and because you feel future-proofed (maybe, possibly, you never know).

I like knowing I’ve got tons of power to spare for that next big game coming next year. If you feel the same, then go for it, you’ll likely love it. If you have budget constraints and need to choose between this or a great gpu, definitely prioritize the gpu and buy a 9700k, 9600k, or even the 8700k or 8600k depending on how much you have left.

And also the packaging is pretty so you can display it and show it off to your friends. 0. o.

Was able to overclock this identical processor over 1 GHz. Fast. Extremely easy to set up. Gives your rig a great boost in CPU horsepower. Very reliable. Absolutely no issues – 24+ hour burn-in period after overclocking.

Still using the same processor for over a year, after upgrading from a 920. Incredible jump in performance. At one point, this processor was selling (NIB, sealed) for ~$1200. To get it in NEW condition for less than 400 is a steal.

Especially if you don’t want to build a new rig from scratch (PS, MB, CPU, RAM, SSD, etc. )! Highly recommended.

Had an old 1st Generation i7 930 and time on my hands due to lockdown so decided to do something about it and found this supplier. Good price for the i7 975X, delivery arrived much earlier than quoted, installed it in minutes, in fact it was harder to re-install the CPU cooler, fired it up, worked first time.

Ran “Performance Test” software and got a 20% overall improvement – all for 37 quid. Well satisfied and am toying with idea of going for an i7 990X 2nd Gen which my motherboard can support. Recommended.

If you are comparing this to the 920 STOP. It is NOT the same. I built a machine with a 920 and while it was a fast machine it would still bog down during critical operations and time is money. Over clocking is fine; if you want to rag out your car by running NOS, over clock to your heart’s content.

If you want a hot rod built to perform this is your calling. I am working with various video editing and graphics animation software and the 975 ate it like yesterdays lunch spitting out my productions like nothing I have ever seen before.

I was apprehensive after reading some of the other reviews but when I put it to the test it performed like a dream. Oh yeah I didn’t even over clock.

QX9770 is an Intel’s CPU with unlocked multiplier for LGA775 platform. Standard clock is 8×400. CPU is less common than QX9650 but it overclocks very similar. The problem is with Intel’s decision to use C0 and C1 die revisions for extreme series cpu’s of that era, while E0 is much better suited for overclocking.

Unless you are planning to extreme overclock it (with LN2 or dry ice) then there is really no point to buy this model. Locked Q9650 E0 revision will do better clocks under more commonly found cooling solutions and modded Xeon X5460/X5470 will do much better if your motherboard can support it.

This chip has an unlocked multiplier. With only a 0. 04 Volt increase, my particular chip runs flawlessly at 3. 7 Ghz. Using a decent CPU air cooler, temps are extemeley low. People routinely run this chip at 4.

0 GHz with a 0. 10 overvoltage. Bootup is very quick and processor load while in use is usually in the range of 25%. If you need to keep running legacy software, this is a great way to keep your system running fast as workloads increase.

You can also set up your system to dual boot with any 64 Bit Windows system and Windows XP. but it does take some knowhow. If the price of this one is too high,. you can buy a 3. 0 GHz fixed frequency version for around $35 and 3.

3 GHz dual-channel version of this thing for $25, neither one is a slouch for any normal work or light gaming.

Like title says, best processor for the LGA 775 platform. However, if you have a LGA 775 motherboard that doesn’t support DDR3 ram(the LGA 775 was split between DDR2 and DDR3), then you might as well get a newer processor like the i5/7’s because ur gonna need a new motherboard to support this processor.

However, if you have a good motherboard, and a good video card(I paired my QX9770 with a Nvidia GTX970) then you should be able to run any game out there(at the time of this writing) at 50-100+fps @ 1920×1080 with max settings.

If you want to run VR, forget it. If you want to do 4k, maybe with a beefier vid card than what I got.
