Very impressive component. I do some heavy composing work, analytics work and sometimes video renders. My 8 year old rig couldn’t keep up. Built a new one with this CPU and it doesn’t miss a beat. Running it with MSI x299 Pro mobo and 128 GB, 1300 W PSU, liquid cooler.

Talk about an improvement to overall time management. And listen, I know the kids like the i9 10900k for gaming and overclocking etc. , I’ve seen the benchmarks versus the 10900x “oh it’s just an improved 9900k” FOLKS.

get this CPU and it’ll get business done. Simple as that. Yes, I recommend a liquid cooler.

I’ve been using virtualization more heavily and my 8-year old 4-core i7 wasn’t cutting it anymore. Time for a new PC. I wanted the new 16-core version i9 but couldn’t get my hands on one. Turns out this 10-core processor is doing fine.

VMware Workstation can still use 16 virtual processors due to hyper-threading and 64GB RAM. (I have 128GB) I’ve got adequate cooling and power to overclock but I don’t. It performs fine for my needs at rated speeds and runs reasonably cool and rock-solid stable even when pushed to the max on all cores.

This new PC is a great productivity boost and I’m glad that Intel is making them more affordable because this is a big investment for me. Very happy with this processor. in my new PC.

I upgraded from a 3rd gen i5 to this product. Looking back, I wish I would have taken a closer look at AMD’s lineup of products. Based on the research I have done, it seems that they have processors that will give you nearly identical single threaded performance.

Many of their processors also have more throughput. You can get all of this for about half the price. So, you can go with this product for an insignificant gain in in single threaded performance. But you are going to have to pay about double for it.

I’m not convinced it was worth it.

Be warned that you may get an open box product with no indication anywhere on the listing. The Intel factory seal sticker was cut upon arrival. Box was also clearly handled, I didn’t notice until I went to open the box.

Product does work just fine as of writing this but who knows what will happen. The CPU cooler was without the pre-applied thermal paste which unless you have some can push your completed build a few days back.

Although seller problems aside, it’s a great value processer for less than $90. You can’t beat the gaming or even desktop performance with anything in the same price bracket. Would highly recommend if you’re on a tight budget.

This processor is a monster in this price range you cannot get any better at 80 euros the performance is spectacular and there is nothing in comparison with AMD. The processor came in a very well small box package.

It runs at appropriate speeds with an ASRock motherboard. The performance is same or better or as a 7700 non K. For esports titles with a budget build its simply the best you can get at this moment in this price segment.

If you are in a tight budget there is absolutely no reason to consider the 10400 for example. The CPU works along a GTX 1060 -3 gigabytes and its smooth as butter in games like battlefield 5 Overwatch CS go and rainbow 6.

Pair this with a 510 motherboard and you are good to go for at least two three years with a discrete graphics card.

Its fast, very stable on Z590 and can still drive modern GPUs adequately. There is no need to spend $100’s on a cpu when Microcenter has been selling this for $89-99. I presently use mine for cryptomining in an open air setup on Windows 10 but I’ve also gamed with these.

I do use an aftermarket cooler because I like them to run quietly but the included cooler is adequate. This is the equivalent cpu of intel’s former flagship i7 of just a few years ago with new AVX2 and AES extensions, faster speeds and lower watt requirements.

For people saying this CPU is a beast or super fast or games never ran better, etc. unless you’re literally creating heavy auto CAD, rendering, hosting you are not going to see any improvements over a i7 4790k(in regards to gaming/general use NOT in regards to newer tech on board).

My old 4790k was OC to 5. 0Ghz and paired with a simple 1070 GPU and 16Gb 2400Mhz RAM, I was running Cyberpunk 2077 and 99% of other games on ULTRA at 144Hz and at least 6OFPS. No issues other than minor things.

Compared to what others have said online about all the problems, I experienced very few. Just saying because I upgraded to a i9 9900k and there’s not much noticable improvement. Yeah it’s scoring better but when I play games it’s not much different.

It’s OCd to 5. 0Ghz and im running 32Gb 3200Mhz RAM with same 1070 GPU. I only returned my 9980EX when I found a 9900k for 250$. The money I saved was nice but what I wanted more was just a decent CPU that I wouldn’t have to replace again for another 10 years.

I had that Devil’s Canyon for almost 9 years I think and consistently scored in the 90th percentile for benchmarks. Not bragging but the normal gamer will have ZERO use for more than 8 actual cores with HT doubling that.

The OC speeds mainly benefit the single cores anyways and the little. 3 to. 5Ghz we get when OCing might raise our “benchmark numbers” but in reality doesn’t really speed things up by much. People get all razzle dazzle by these big numbers of cores but I guarantee you the majority of owners will never use those cores in day to day actual gaming or computing.

Yes some might but very few. It seems the average consumer thinks newer is better and bigger numbers make go faster. No. A 9700k will be good for another 10 years mark my words. Unless there’s some huge breakthrough in game development/programming, my old 4790k would still probably be good enough for the average gamer/user.

It’s funny tho to see reviewers who’ve bought this CPU and actually kept it leaving reviews without really saying what they’re using it for and using words like super fast, mind blowing speeds, beast of a CPU only to reassure themselves that spending that much$ on a CPU was a good idea.

Remember Intel needs to sell chips and without sucker’s like us they’d be bankrupt. Newer isn’t always better and price doesn’t equate to performance. It’s like buying an NSX with 50 extra Vtech valves but never being able to drive fast enough to use those extra valves other than when on a private track once a year and at home you tell everyone how fast it was but yet 364 days out of the year you use it to drive 2 blocks for groceries when a hatchback turbo VW would have sufficed.

To each his own I guess but at least know where when and how the cores work and single vs. Multi threads, HT, Turbo Boost, etc.

Upgraded from a Core i9-7900X, and so far it works great! Installation was quick and easy, and the processor was recognized immediately upon post-installation bootup (BIOS updated prior to installation).

Moreover, temperatures were pretty consistent across all cores (ie all cores were roughly at the same temperature), as opposed to the i9-7900X it replaced, which had core temps that were inconsistent with each other, even when idle.

Headline says it all. I never thought I would have an 18 core processor even for this hefty price. There is plenty of headroom to overclock it even conservatively. With an AIO Corsair cooler, the CPU package maintains an 82 or degree temperature while fully stressed with all 36 cores running full steam and memory running with XMP settings also fully stressed.

Adobe Photoshop runs so smoothly as does Premier Pro. I do need to get a newer GPU but can’t find any now days. So the CPU picks up some of the load even with an older GPU. I know that AMD is now a formidable competitor but I personally know Intel MUCH better and so far this CPU has turned out to be a great choice.

I’ve used AMD CPU’s almost exclusively since the late 90’s. Originally their CPU’s were simply less expensive while offering essentially identical performance. Then, in the early 2000’s, they took the performance crown and maintained it for years while simultaneously maintaining competitive pricing.

But ever since Intel took the crown with Core2 and AMD messed up with Phenom it’s been an uphill battle for them. My last few AMD chips have been partially bought out of a sense of loyalty, but mainly due to their value.

I honestly wouldn’t have bought this CPU but I got both a 2011v3 socket motherboard and 16GB of DDR4 RAM for free. Being halfway to a new build I decided to bite the bullet and build my first high-end Intel build in over a decade, and I don’t regret it.

I still believe that Intel upper-end CPU’s are generally too expensive, and I wish that AMD would release more competitive hardware again to bring balance to the CPU market. but this CPU is pretty awesome.

I love the performance and I love the stability. So as much as I kinda dislike saying it I’m fairly pleased with this Intel CPU. I’m really anticipating AMD’s Zen architecture within the next few months, and I hope that somehow it blows the socks off of Intel, but for now I take no issue enjoying this fine piece of hardware and will probably use it for years.

I “side-graded” from my 5820K. I wasn’t expecting a vast performance difference, just wanted to play with the latest and greatest technology. I can only manage 4. 3Ghz stable on my ASUS X99-PRO @ 1. 300v.

The system would immediately crash at 4. 4Ghz @ 1. 325v. I could have tried cranking the voltage up really high, but I didn’t think it was worth it. From what I’ve read, 4. 2-4. 3Ghz seems the normal range for this particular chip.

This CPU is running noticeably cooler than my old 5820K, despite running at higher voltage. Idle temp is about 32C, and goes up to about 46C during gaming. Impressive. System Specs: 6800K @ 4. 3Ghz ASUS X99-PRO Corsair H110 16GB G.

99 I think it’s overpriced compared to the 5820K.

I’ll be honest – I’m probably not going to make the best use of this CPU’s potential, but this is a chip I have been looking forward to for a while. I bought this to sort of future-proof my rig. It’s not the best bang for buck chip on regular price.

Thankfully it only costed me $30 more than the price of a 6700K. The chip works out of the box and seems to perform as well as I could expect it to. It is keeping respectable idle and load temperatures (with a Corsair H115i cooler) on stock so far.

Have not had issues streaming Battlefield 1 on max settings to Twitch, no issues with video editing on Adobe Premiere. I also intend to fold ([email protected]) with this chip. Have not overclocked or benched it yet but will return with results.

Looking forward to 4. 2GHz.

I’m coming from a 2009 2. 66GHz 4-core Mac Pro. I’m no longer a fan of what Apple offers, especially in terms of price to performance and lack of user upgradable components. So after 20+ years with the Mac, I took a leap of faith and built my own PC.

So far, a few weeks into using this new build, I absolutely LOVE this CPU. I primarily use this machine for photo editing with PhotoMechanic, Adobe Photoshop Cloud 2017, and Capture One Pro 11. This CPU can handle everything I throw at it without breaking a sweat.

Even when I’ve run a 1000 image export in Capture One Pro, a 500 image batch process in Photoshop, I could go back into Capture One Pro, open a new job, render previews, and start RAW adjustments with absolutely no lag.

It worked flawlessly. The RAW adjustment sliders are silky smooth, with no lag. Best of all, the CPU temps have remained an average of 55C under load at 4. 4GHz overclocked. At 4. 6GHz, the temps only averaged 70C – spiked to 76C a couple of times.

I’m using the NZXT Kraken x52 CPU cooler. Works for me. For Photoshop, an application that prefers high clock frequencies vs. more cores, I love that this CPU has the same 4. 5GHz Turbo Boost frequency as the Intel 7700K.

That’s incredibly impressive for an 8-core CPU. The 7700K, used to be the Photoshop king, but I would bet there is little to no real world difference between this 8 core 7820x and the 4-core 7700K when doing lightly threaded Photoshop tasks.

The 7820x is so responsive. IMO, this CPU might be the best bang for the buck in terms of single, dual and multicore threaded applications. When you factor in the 28 PCIe lanes over the 16 PCIe lanes you get with the might i7 8700K, I still have to give the 7820x the nod.

If you only need 16 PCIe lanes, then the 8700K will save you about $200 on the CPU, and maybe $50 on the Motherboard. With the 7820x you’ll want a good Motherboard. Should go without saying, but that doesn’t mean the most expensive.

After tons of research about VRM issues with the Skylake-X CPUs, I bought the ASRock Extreme4. The two features I wanted most were, dual 8-pin CPU power connects, and the VRM heat pipe. Intel shotgunned this CPU family release, and IMO it caught the MOB manufacturers off guard, and many release their MOBs too quickly.

EVGA wouldn’t even release their MOBs, as they hadn’t been thoroughly tested. These CPUs are power hungry, and if you OC without a good cooler, VRM cooling, and adequate power, they’ll overheat and throttle.

New and 2nd Gen x299 boards are already coming out with these dual 8-pin connects and VRM heat pipes (Taichai XE is one example of a Gen 2 x299 MOB). The Extreme4 is a new board released in November, a good few months after the release of Skylake-X.

So they had time to get this board right, and it’s one of the least expensive boards on the market. I had a limited budget of $2,000 – and if I could do it all over again, I would definitely buy this build again.

Picked up the 7900X for my X299 system. Decided on the 7900X because of the higher speed compared to the more expensive ones with more cores. Simply put, games don’t use all of these cores, and so the 7980XE not has unused potential, but what is used is slower than the 7900X.

For an X299 system, the 7900X is the best CPU for gaming. You may even want to look at a Z370 system, but I want my PCIe lanes, and I want enough for full 16 on 2 video cards. If you only use 1 video card, you’d be happy with Z370 and i7 8700k for gaming.

I let my Asus Rampage VI Extreme board auto overclock this CPU, and it pulled 4. 6 out of the bag. Nice! There is a problem with these CPUs though, and that problem is heat. I have a Corsair H115i AiO watercooler on it, with a push/pull configuration.

Now, granted, the 280mm radiator is only like 25~30mm thick, and the tubing is small. The AiO and CPU run around 40C at idle at base speeds. That’s 10C higher than my i7 5960X OCed at 4. 2GHz. I haven’t seen the temps go over 55C, but I haven’t run anything like Prime95 to stress the CPU.

All the kids today talk about “”delidding”” which is a risky process, and not the kind of thing you want to just try on a $900 item. Plus doing so will instantly kill your warranty. But the results are apparently much better temps.

Personally, I plan on putting together my own loop and the H115i is just a temp solution. With a triple 140mm radiator that’s 55mm thick, likely a HardwareLabs Black Ice rad, the i9 will be much more controlled.

Still, it’s a hot CPU! Maybe hotter than McDonald’s coffee.

Pros: Not cheap but very good value in comparison to other mainstream socket performance CPUs. Despite being a “locked” chip, a lot of extra performance – to 10900K levels – can be extracted by raising the power limits and setting 102.

95 BCLK. This CPU might not be the fastest at every task but it’s not far off; a very good all rounder and can run lots of things at once with no noticeable slowdowns. Cons: Boxed cooler is totally inadequate – this chip demands a large tower cooler to get the best from it.

I have mine paired with a Noctua NHD-14. Takes a lot of power, can use nearly 200W when all cores are maxed out, but then it is a high frequency 10 core chip, so that’s to be expected. You also need a motherboard with a decent VRM – look at the MSI Z490 boards, or the B460 Bazooka if they are too expensive.

Do your research before buying an LGA1200 motherboard because there are some real shockers.

Just bought this 11900 (non K) cpu to upgrade my i3-10100, which is actually a better performing cpu for the price. The 10100 costs just over £100, whereas the 11900 costs nearly £400! I expected a lot more in terms of performance advantage, however the only difference I can tell so far is that the 11900 contains twice the number of cores (8), instead of the 10100 (4).

You don’t notice the difference in day to day tasks (and even multi-workload) in my opinion, and I noticed that the new cpu stuttered while playing my game, which doesn’t happen on the 10100. I think the 10th gen intel chips are a lot more efficient, and also offer lower memory latency which is better for gaming, than 11th gen.

The 11900 becomes very noisy when you unlock the power limits in the motherboard bios (at default it only consumes 65 watts), which causes the cpu cooler’s fans to spin faster to reduce the heat. This cpu is worth half the cost of its current value in my opinion.

I recommend the i3-10100 to anyone building a new pc who wants a fast and affordable cpu!.

Excellent performance. See the #9 and #13 all time best PC desktop system scores at Passmark. com, they are the machine using the CPU I just bought here on ebay. Stable and reliable at 5. 0 GHz, but needs at least AIO liquid water cooling to perform well.

System this went in to: Asus WS x299 Sage 128gb GSkill 3866 DDR-4 Samsung 2tb NVMe 2 x 2080ti cards in SLI I game at 4k and so far every game has ran maxed out visually and ran at my current monitors max of 60 FPS.

This isn’t the best processor for only gaming at the moment, but I hoped it would do decently and it does. For whatever reason, my Asus WS x299 Sage motherboard detects and identifies this processor correctly as having a stock 3.

0ghz frequency, but from the very beginning it automatically clocks it at 3. 8, even in the BIOS. Now, obviously people buy a K or X processor to overclock it, but for me I always baseline everything at stock frequency and the only way I could do that was to set max CPU multiplier to 30.

I can’t pull in the reins of this thoroughbred! So far, the only overclocking I have been doing is setting it at 3. 8ghz all stock voltages and then let it OC itself in Windows. It will run 4. 2 ghz on all 18 cores at 100% with the temps still below the 80’s.

When not using this PC for gaming or editing tasks, I run [email protected] on it so the CPU gets pegged at 100 and stays there. If I run the Intel Turbo Boost 3. 0 suite it then boosts it further and this is where I start getting an occasional crash.

Gaming, it will boost up to 4. 7ghz but for 24/7 100% use it ran hotter than I like. Keep in mind this is very early testing, having had it for only a couple of weeks. I am sure as I test more with voltage and such it will only get better.

So far all manual testing has been done at stock volts.

I will say this. To Intel’s credit I did not have to wait on hold to speak with someone only about 1 min. I did have to pull off the CPU cooler because Intel puts the sticker on the box with the important numbers on the crease where you open it.

So a bit disappointing to say the least. I did not do any OC on this processor I usually like to wait 3 or 4 months, just watch the temps at stock, run it through some games, etc. I will update to see if the new processor works.

I hope this helps any potential buyers. might save some money go with the 6700k or wait for the kaby L. From my point of view when you finally get to put together a dream build and the cpu goes bad. HUH? is that even a thing.

asus deluxe 2 i7-6850 corsair dominator quad 3200 ddr4 plat x4 16 gb samsung pro 950 m. 2 Li-lian PC 08 case (this is stunning by the way) EVGA 1000w P2 plat EVGA 1080 FTW (yeah got stuck in that mess too, had to install thermal tape? its better now) crucial 750gb ssd Corsair H100i v2 (I would not use this cooler again in this case, the cooling cables are way to stiff and firm) but good temps, nice build quality.

I would recommend this CPU to anyone who uses an X99 WORK STATION motherboard and needs more bandwidth. This is not a gamer chip per se but you can certainly game on it if you want to. It’s great for video rendering, work station, home server, and forensics.

I also use it for data recovery. I wouldn’t say this chip is a good “overclocker” but it is certainly stable out of the box. It was designed for heavy workloads and it certainly performs well in this regard.

I would not down play the speed of this chip. It is fast for all intents and purposes but if speed is your number one priority you’re probably better off with a Skylake or one of the newer chips. Think of a high performance semi-truck and you’re on the right track.

Recieved the item and left it in the box it was shipped in until I could get a new power supply for my system. When installing in a working motherboard the CPU in question did not allow the system to post.

Swapped my old CPU back in with no issue and the system boots and works fine. This product was not as advertised and because I had to wait to install I have no recourse.

The packaging is good and it arrived in a timely matter. With only 2 cores/thread’s, its great for an office pc and to play simple games like league. However, don’t be expecting to play any fps games or high demanding AAA games on this thing.

Currently i’m using this cpu as a filler till I can buy a better one. But so far, I don’t regret getting it. 🙂 P. S. the stock cooler is kind of hard to install, so pls look at the manual or online for help before messing up the thermalpaste that comes pre- applied.

I bought this to use as a test bench cpu only, and b&h was the only place i could find it for a good price even with shipping and import fees to canada it was cheaper than buying off another site. works great just as expected and now i can test all the 1700 socket motherboards i have.

i would assume it is a great cpu for office use since it is just a dual core. but i wont be using it for anything other than making sure motherboards post and boot to windows.

cheap, dual core, locked, little cache. Do not be misleaded by comparatives with an i9, that was single thread with ridiculously expensive motherboards and ddr5. It is slow because it is made to be like that.

Works just to browse the web and a few small things.

Ordered mine from B&H and arrived quickly with both Heatsink and a fan (though I didn’t use it). This is used in my personal server running Local Home Automation, Media Server (Plex), and Surveillance software.

[No gaming on this PC]. The 12500 is able to handle all of the above perfectly fine. It runs very cool with the Thermalright P120SE cooler; it stays at 28-30C at idle\low usage and 65-68C max during 100% stress test.

I’ll be honest, if you’ll be using a dedicated graphics card [which you should if Gaming is your thing] but want a good budget CPU, save yourself the money and get the 12400 (even if it’s just $10 difference).

The 12500 marginal increase in base\boost clock will not be noticeable at all. The only reason to get the 12500 is if you won’t be using a dedicated GPU and take advantage of the UHD770 iGPU over the UHD730 that the 12400 sports.

UHD770 does twice the video transcoding than the UHD730 and will perform better in light creative solutions or media streaming that takes advantage of Intel’s QuickSync and two transcoders.

No hesitation in recommending this CPU at all. Runs everything (1080p for me) at Max settings with all ray tracing features turned on with an RTX 3060 just about flawlessly (occasionally needing DLSS just to smooth things out).

It’s a shame this CPU doesn’t come without on board graphics as the built in GPU hardware isn’t really up to scratch though it is better than previous generations. Those interested in overclocking or having E-cores (for production or content creation) should go for the K or KF variant (which doesn’t cost much more) as this base CPU doesn’t support much in the way of overclocking.

You can tweak the base clock a little and some (though currently very few) motherboards with external clock generators will let you muck around with some other settings that may prove useful to overclockers but otherwise this is a very solid chip.

It’s worth noting though that the cooler that comes with it is terrible and you’ll definitely want to get an after market one. I bought the Noctua redux with this that keeps it running idle at about 35° and it rarely tops 60° when gaming.

Upgraded from a i5-6400, Huge improvment. Before I wasn’t able to run Warzone and discord together, running virtual machines was slow aswell and gaming performance was potato reaching up-to 100% cpu utilisation on every triple A level game titles which left no room for my PC to work on other tasks.

Paired with a 3060ti, the 6-cores and the increased instruction per clock (IPC) now allows it to carry out tasks without a CPU bottleneck, as of early 2022 it runs every game perfectly without an issue.

The stock cooler isn’t great when the CPU reaches 4ghz+ you’ll be reaching high of 70 degrees (Very Hot) with the fan speed maxed out which can be annoying as its very loud and without proper airflow (which is a must) can heat up and even melt your side panel.

One way to solve that would be to get a custom air cooler or lower the maximum processor state that way it will never reach 4ghz but it be a lot quieter and still give great performance. If your going with a 3rd-party cooler with this CPU and have good airlfow, then I reccomened it, however if you’re on a tighter budget than I reccomend the 12400 as a better value for money option.

After looking at many alternatives I found this processor to be the most suitable upgrade to the stock Celeron processor which was in my Gen8 microserver. Its 35W TDP is the same as the G1610 Celeron and therefore works with the existing heatsink.

After installing this processor and using new thermal paste I was achieving temperatures of around 34c at idle. It has made the biggeat difference to conversions of files in Plex where it used to work at around 8x and now converts files at around 25x.

All in all a well priced, cool running, economic CPU which gives a good performance boost over a my stock chip.

Instead of paying thousands more for the QNAP NAS with the i7, I used this for a quick upgrade. Works perfectly and doesnt get too hot. Was using it with the original CPU cooler and it did fine. Ultimately ended upgrading the CPU fan as well.

Still way less than the Stock QNAP with the same specs.

I purchased this as a drop in replacement for an i3 that was purchased new an used on an Asus H170 mb. Originally built for my family the i3 has to flawless, with the exception of adding more cores for gaming and having silly amounts of programs running.

Used stock CPU fan. NO changes required in Windows 10!!! Ran Intel graphics for a while before adding a used graphics card. Couldn’t be happier with value.

Purchased for a mining rig, so it is not getting pushed really hard, but it is easy to install, runs solid for extended periods (I only reboot when working on cards, etc. ). Would use it again if need arose.

The only down side is that for tech several years old, it is pretty pricey. Hard to predict these things.

Ive been building gaming rigs for almost 20 years. Id guess about 44 to 50 units. Ive learned that a gaming rig doesnt need a 125w+ cpu unless your looking for 144fps on Ultimate settings. These rigs will cost $3,000+.

Thats not ecomomical unless you have money to burn. 99% of people cant afford that. If your looking for a good CPU that can pair with a GTX 1650 or 1050ti to build a pico PSU mini, low wattage gaming rig, this IS the one.

you will need to find a B85, H81, Z87, H91, Z97, H97, etc. Motherboard. My newest efficient rig uses this CPU with an H97 itx, and GTX 1650 with 16gb, and 1tb ssd. total rig uses 110w full load gaming.

60+ fps on all games at 1080p on very high settings. making it prettier and more energy efficient than any modern console. The T line i5, and i7 CPUs are excellent performers. the S line is better for GTX 1660s or 1070s.

Dont always believe the hype on liquid cooling and 20 core CPUs. Its just hype. 4 core, 35w CPU is plenty sufficient. Most builds over do it on the CPU and scrimp on the GPU. Id suggest leaning in the opposite direction if your building primarily for gaming.

Other than the i7 4785t, this is THE best value 35w CPU out there. Hands Down. A 35w cooler with get throttled often if gaming. 65w cooler will give 66c on full gaming load, 38 to 42c idle. a 95w cooler will give 52c on full gaming load, and 28 to 32c idle.

Get the 95w cpu coolers if space and finances are not an issue. The seller provided a clean, strong performing CPU for a steal of a deal. Shipped quick, arrived early, and easy to install. Especially if you use thermal pads as apposed to paste.

This CPU has around i5-8500 level performance, but costs less than an i5-8400, much less sometimes when Microcenter has a sale. For some people, it’d be a pain to not have an integrated GPU to just boot up and use, but for a gaming rig with a separate card, it’s a non-issue.

I’m used to this because I generally use AMD CPU’s, which often don’t have integrated GPU’s (on Desktop anyways) and I also find it convenient that I don’t have to worry about switching between integrated graphics and dedicated graphics either in the BIOS or Windows.

This CPU has 6 real cores, a low TDP, strong IPC (especially single core and quad core) and can boost to 4. 1 ghz when only using 2 cores, and 4. 0 when using 4. All-core boost is 3. 9, which is still pretty impressive.

Having switched from an old Bulldozer based 8350, I’ve seen much better performance, particularly in games, and games that need strong single core performance. I’ve seen FPS literally even double on certain titles that require a lot of single or dual core grunt.

My only complaint (which may not be an issue for some) is that you can’t overclock on this CPU, especially with the cheaper motherboards. AMD’s new Ryzen CPU’s DO allow you to do this, and with the cheaper “B” series motherboards to boot.

For people who don’t OC it’s not an issue, but those who do OC can probably get better performance out of a similar-priced Ryzen CPU, especially since those tend to have more threads than Intel CPU’s of a similar price.

My biggest complaint though is that the stock Intel Cooler really was terrible. I didn’t think it would be that bad, but it was loud and very buzzy, and could even be heard even over background noise, speakers, and even headphones.

AMD’s Wraith series of stock coolers are much better than Intel’s stock ones. I ended up having to buy a $13 Arctic Alpine 12 cooler to replace the stock cooler because I just couldn’t stand the noise.

All in all though, I’d say this is still a great CPU for gamers and system builders who need a separate video card. For those who just want an office machine or a browser / word processing rig and don’t need more than integrated graphics, the 8400 is probably a better buy, and maybe even an 8100 if you don’t need more than 4 cores.

AMD’s Ryzen 5 series is also on option, but mostly if you don’t mind not having integrated video on the chip, as only the 2400g and 2200g APU’s have that for Desktop AMD CPU’s.

I purchased this CPU for an old Dell OptiPlex 3020M I was given. I bought at a pretty “bad” time, so I ended up shelling out a cool $45. These are now easy to get for just under $40, if not even less.

That said, I’m happy with the upgrade. This computer previously had an i3-4150T, which has only two physical cores. Even four cores are starting to become a little cramped in some applications, but that and the integrated graphics are still very comfortable for a family computer.

The installation is as simple as any other processor: open up the computer, remove and clean the cooler and old CPU, place the new CPU, apply thermal paste, and reassemble the computer. Due to the reduced clocks the T processors feature, temperatures are very comfortable.

With my fairly light use of Microsoft Edge (the new Chromium version) with 10 or so tabs open and Discord, temperatures are always in the low to mid 40s C. I’ve found that to be fairly impressive given the form factor of the computer this is inside.

Overall I’m extremely happy with the results of this processor, even if I overpaid a little. I would suggest getting this over a similar i7 (4765T or 4785T) because those are currently well over double the price.

Hyperthreading is a nice advantage, but it’s not big and is definitely not worth an extra $60 or more.

I’m not one that races out to type a CPU review. There is already plenty of information, benchmarks, etc. on the web detailing the performance of this chip and/or chips that are similar. Ultimately, I’m hoping to present a little clarification regarding what one may expect to receive when purchasing this item.

So, if the headline of this review has caught your attention it may have been because you noticed the product description states that it “doesn’t” come with a thermal solution (AKA: heat-sink/fan). However, like some other reviewers/commenters have stated, “it does”! (or at least mine did).

The item I received was in retail form and included the stock heat-sink and fan (case badge and all). I’ve come across similar dependencies on other retail sites claiming the same thing. Sad to state, purchasing this item felt like more of a gamble if anything.

Does that guarantee the one you purchase will include one. Don’t know! But it may minimize the reluctance to purchase it seeing that myself, including others, have had the same experience and can confirm that the item received was indeed a retail variant.

All in all, if it comes down to it, it is a relativity inexpensive chip. Even though potentially receiving one without a thermal solution may not be all that desirable, many aftermarket solutions can be found on the web and are rather cost effective when dealing with a chip of this type.

So, the $10 or less region may not be out of line for an adequate thermal solution. Just think of your possible usage scenarios and buy accordingly (if it would even come to that). I bought this knowing it may not have come with a cooler, so I can’t state I would’ve felt burned getting one without one.

I wanted to take this review to directly address those thinking of purchasing for gaming, as I haven’t seen too many reviews about this. For the value, this CPU is insanely good, but you must know what kind of games you want to play before you pull the trigger.

It is a 2-core, 4-thread CPU which is the equivalent of what older gen i3 CPU’s were. It is very snappy for browsing & basic needs, but how does it handle in-game? Here’s my experience. I have this paired up with a 4GB R9 380 GPU and 8GB of DDR4 at 2666.

Windows 10. Some sample benchmarks: Apex Legends: AVG 65, Low 46 on mix of low/high Witcher III: AVG 71, dips to high 50’s in Novigrad, all high with shadows on low Fortnite: AVG 123, Low 76, competitive settings Modern Warfare: 50-60 AVG on mix of settings Now obviously these are rough samples, and YMMV depending on your GPU and config.

You can probably push higher frame-rates with even just a 10th gen i3. However, if you are on a budget, or you don’t care much about having the most consistent frames in the world, this CPU is a killer value.

I, for one, learned an important lesson with this CPU. Stop caring about the frames, and just enjoy the games. Even still, the performance this CPU can push on a healthy PC build is beyond acceptable.

It is not a AAA game crushing chip, but it will play a lot of games from 2015 onwards perfectly fine.

I am very impressed with how snappy this little low powered CPU is. You won’t be gaming on it but for a low power general light use system, this CPU is great. It is currently running my main mining rig and only ever gets warm when it is needing to download programs, otherwise its quiet and quick.

They included cooler is actually pretty nice and a great improvement over the older designed ones.

Great processor working Pro Tools and Cubase. Fast and stable. Software synths and samples load fast, chews through projects be it keyscape or ominsphere, kontakt player etc. without sweat. This multi-tasking marvel, also works a charm in astrophotography, working as a tracking system controlling a apochromatic triple refractor telescope.

This processor i7-7700, comes with the intel stock cooing fan which is more than sufficient to cool this processor. So you may not need to buy an aftermarket cooler. i did. I chose to go with cooler master’s g100m because it is gorgeous and silent in the studio, all the while, putting on a led light show in the studio while writing music and editing videos or tracking galaxies.

it helps bring some color in the usually dark studio environment and it keeps the i7-7700 cool even under load while maintaining silence in the studio. For what I do, the intel core i7-7700 is a great song writer and a wonderful telescope tracking system.

I use this in a Linux box set up as a media center server for my network, primarily running Plex Server. Typical load is the streaming and down-converting of bluray rips over a local or remote network with 3 – 4 streams active at one time, typically most of them requiring bitrate conversion (for delivery to mobile platforms).

This processor performs very well in all regards at regular parameters, no overclocking required. In fact, I have reduced voltage input to the COU to reduce TPW output and save on energy costs, and it hasn’t been an issue at all.

The system is also used as the DVR interface and could be recording 1 – 4 programs at any time, sometimes while streaming the above files, and it’s never had a problem. I use an aftermarket low-profile cooler from Noctua, not the cooler that comes pre-boxed with the CPU.

It’s in a low profile HTPC case with ITX setup and my average temps hover around 41 – 48 C with a CPU load of around 10 – 20% at peak usage. So I have found this to be an excellent solution. Maybe more than I needed, but I know that I’m future proof for quite a while with this setup.

It fixed my problem with games performing under 60fps, but that’s about it. I should’ve done more research before spending over $300 on this and just built an entirely new PC. Other than that, it’s a good cpu for the time, but my Ryzen 3700x is a lot better and that came out not too long after I bought this i7.

Even when it came out, if you already have any i5 or above for this socket, don’t waste your money upgrading unless you can find the k version of this for under $150. Just get a new motherboard and buy a newer cpu.

It barely made a jump 10-20fps jump from my i5 6500. I would not recommend this new, Especially today.
