20 Best Cowash For Natural Hair (2023 Updated)

This stuff is MAGIC. I was so skeptical to buy anything online but I could not be happier and I swear this is a real review! I never had dandruff or buildup before I started wearing extensions and since I started wearing them I consistently would have buildup and flakes and it was AWFUL and just getting worse and worse even though I wash once or twice a week (definitely don’t want to do more with extensions).

I always wanted to make sure I was putting things in my hair that wouldn’t damage them and I find this. Now girls I used this ONE time and after showering and using this, the horrific buildup and white flakes and grossness is GONE.

I repeat, GONE. It definitely smells like apple cider vinegar and it’s not the greatest scent and I went to town scrubbing my head with it, then used my normal shampoo and conditioner after and there was no leftover smell at the end of my shower.

I made sure to rinse VERY thoroughly after it and after my shampoo and conditioner. It made my head feel clean and clear and even scratching my head, there is no residue or flaking or anything. Please please do yourself a favor and get this if you’re having scalp trouble with extensions.

I wish I had known about this so long ago, it is a game changer. I am a total believer and will DEFINITELY be purchasing again. I think it is a must-have to keep your scalp healthy and clean with extensions in your hair.

Rarely leave bad reviews but do not like this at all. I bought it to make my hair feel cleaner/clarified and because of hard water. My hair honestly feels worse than ever after one wash with this (and use of their leave in conditioner).

It is oily and dirty feeling. Also don’t like the application. it barely comes out of the tip. Returning promptly after one use but this did not work for me.

My psorasis Is on my scalp, in my ears, and in and on my fingernails. I will use prescription Lidex emollient cream for my nails. This shampoo seams to be the best psorisis shampoo available through Wal-Mart.

Clears scalp and ear canal of dry, dead skin and stops the itching and make my hair smoother. But I also have 2 great conditioners. “Tea Tree Cool Treatment Natural On” makes my hair feel smoother and “Tea Tree Conditioner with 100% Pure Tea Tree Oil”.

The second one makes my scalp tingly and feel great. I purchased both online from either Amazon or Wal-Mart.

I have been using KMS for years. Every time I try something new, I always end up back with the KMS range. I have been growing my hair long for the past couple of years, so I need lots of moisture because my hair is extremely thick – it’s fine, but there’s a huge amount of it.

I only wash my hair once a week and I slather on about 4 pumps – 2 on the scalp, 2 on the ends. My hair is never oily and KMS Moist Repair never adds weight or makes my hair greasy. Easy to wash out, to.

I was trying to replace a 30 year old KMS “curl up” conditioner. Delicious smell, orange color (good!) and still active as a conditioner. I managed to find KMS still in business, but “curl up” isn’t being produced any longer.

I bought this. haven’t tried it yet, but it doesn’t have the delicious smell that the “curl up” had. Disappointed but not surprised. Hope the conditioner works well on my hair.

This conditioner is a great buddy. It is well balanced, not drying and not over the top. It meets your hair where it is and keeps it healthy. I tried Curliosity in multiple ways: in partner with Pinkalicious shampoo, on it’s own, to shave with, and as a leave in conditioner and hair product to bring out curls.

I have thin wavy hair and usually only used a conditioner, or a natural shampoo that was moisturizing enough and made for curly hair. All the ways I tried Culiosity worked wonderfully. I really enjoyed using it.

It took me a few tries to figure it out. My husband was using too much and I was using too little. The key is to swipe it through your hair. Don’t rub it on your hands and don’t just rub it on your head, make sure your hair is thoroughly wet and swipe it through 4-6 times depending on how much hair you have.

That way it will be used effectively and this precious stuff won’t be wasted. I think Curliosity would be good for multiple hair types. I recommend trying it and, if it doesn’t work out for you for one use, maybe it will work for another or you can exchange it (They’re very friendly here.

), but mostly likely you will enjoy it. Give it a go!.

Been using this for two months on my fine, 3a hair with low porosity. I usually use the Wonderbar, but decided to try this one after rave reviews from a curly haired friend. Curliosity took some getting used to, and definitely improved my curls.

I was a little unsure about some of the ingredients at first (mostly any dyes to make it blue) because my scalp tends to be sensitive, even if the product isn’t getting applied directly to it. It did irritate my scalp a little after the first few washes, but decided to keep trying it incase that went away or was something else.

It hasn’t, and has only gotten out of hand while using Curliosity, so I’ve stopped using it and am giving it away. The extremely strong smell of the bar should have tipped me off to its ability to irritate, but I had an Icarus moment hoping this bar would help my curls.

I’d recommend this product with the warning that if you don’t like strong smells, or have sensitive skin/scalp/dandruff, you’re better off with something else. Even if you do have curls.

I have straight hair, more on fine/medium side. I will not bash on the brand bc to be fair this is targeted for curly hair types. However, I purchased this bc my hair is damaged from all the hair dying.

I went through so many shampoos, only to be unsatisfied with the results. If I could I would give it 3-4/5 stars for these reasons, the scent is not my favorite. Yes you can smell the blueberries, but there is this sourness to it, it is not appealing.

Consistency wise, this does not sud or lather like your basic shampoos, it isn’t a bad thing but I FELT that it didn’t cleanse my hair even when I followed the instructions. If you like the whole lathering effect, this isn’t it.

I read that a little goes a long way, but I actually had to use more to cleanse my hair. This hair wash didn’t work for me. I do love the hair mask though. I still recommend people to try this out if you are interested bc this product might work better for you.

I will say that even if I felt like it didn’t clean my hair, it actually did. I just wish it was more hydrating is all.

Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about how it works. I used to co-wash, but then noticed I was getting build-up so I wanted to switch to something that was more cleansing, but not stripping/drying.

This works amazing for that. I do use a conditioner after because my hair needs it, but this shampoo is a super good balance between cleansing and moisturizing. My hair feels noticeably cleaner after, but doesn’t feel dry.

I took off a point because I just can’t stand the smell. I hate food scents, but I bought this because I was hoping it would smell a little more fresh than like food. To me, it specifically smells like UV-Blue.

Every time I shower, I feel like I’m 18 again at a house party lol. I’m now 27, so those flashbacks aren’t super ideal as I’m trying to relax. I think the price is fine for the size, but I really wish they had a bigger size option as well.

So, overall if they got a bigger size and added a different smell, I’d definitely try it again.

I used this on my main wash days, I usually follow the instructions and it really helps nurish the scalp. I feel a significant difference when I take off the shampoo before I put on the deep conditioner.

My hair already feels conditioned when I take it off and I love the smell. The scent is a bit like artificial flavor/scent, but I enjoy it so much, it reminds me of being a kid. One thing I’ve noticed is my hair does go back to being a bit more brittle when I stopped using it in between shopping trips.

Also, please follow the timing instructions, it does make a huge difference!! I attempted to do a quick wash with it and my hair was just washed but not nourished. The mask really helped during that episode, so def follow the timing instructions.

Its really nice on the scalp and I havent had any itching or like extreme dryness. I live in the desert with a lot of dry weather. So overall, a great shampoo!! I feel pampered when I use these products!.

I wrote a stellar review a few months ago and now feel the need to clarify. THEY CHANGED THE FORMULA! I loaded up on three of these during the recent sale, and noticed the cap had changed color to silver and the label looked different.

I assumed this was only a cosmetic package issue. Unfortunately it’s not. I noticed something was off as soon as I squeezed some out to use. The lovely fragrance of before is long gone. What used to be a gourmand vanilla with a hint of mint has changed to an earthy, bitter herbal grapefruit scent.

Quite terrible and I was bummed because I LOVED the old smell. Hoping for the best, I assumed it was just a fragrance change. As I looked at the blob in my hand, I then noticed the color was different too.

It’s now more translucent white vs a creamy beige and the consistency was very different. It feels different even on my hands as I spread it around to put on my hair. And that’s when I really noticed how bad this new version is.

It doesn’t have the slip it used to and I could feel my hair tangling as I spread it around. Still hoping for the best, I rinsed it out and could tell my hair was going to be dry and tangled. It was.

I had to use an entirely different brand that is know for detangling and smoothing so I spent 5 more minutes in the shower trying to untangle the mess Mane Choice had made. I would return the lot if not for Covid.

I mainly use this as a co-wash and a leave in. It no longer works for either. My hair was dry, tangled and smelled awful. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I cannot understand why they would destroy a former popular product.

Please stop changing the ingredients and making the product less healthy and less effective. This is my favorite leave in but I’m on a hunt for a new one because they have added glycerin, parfum, phenoxythanol, limonene, quaternium 80.

They went from a simple, clean and effective formula with only citric acid as a perservative and an essential oil blend as a scent to adding a new load of toxins. The list grew! It was one of the few products that I loved for their short and clean ingredient list.

I got my last bottle at the store and felt the difference. Looked at the ingredient list and boy has it changed! I compared my old bottle to the new one (both silver caps by the way, so they changed the product twice!).

Please stop changing the ingredients!! Please stop adding toxins!.

Ok so I have curly, coily, tapered-cut hair. My hair is VERY fine, dense, and colored. Usually my issue is my hair doesnt look like it does when it does WET, after it has dried. It gets dry, crunchy, and frizzy, and nothing I use ever really keeps the hair looking hydrated for more than a day.

THIS STUFF IS MAGICAL. I had old hair, not clean, just rinsed it (most of my products during covid have just been water based moisturizers or leave in conditioners so they rinse pretty well. ) and I put on this product HERE.

the 3 N 1 Mane Choice. OMG. I’d intended to use it like a cowash, and rinse it out. But my hair felt AMAZING. Soft, supple, thick and just juicy!! So I left it in – and it dried FRIZZFREE! Looks SOOO good.

I’ve had this product for about a year without using it, so I’m hoping it hasnt changed the formula, because this stuff is a GAME changer!.

This product was absolutely terrible. It made my hair dry, caused build up and would fully work into my hair it just sat on top because it was too thick of consistency. It made my hair break of because of how dry my hair was and ever time I would comb through my hair more tangles would form.

When I thought I got all the tangled out from detangling it with this leave in conditioner, I woke up with patches of thick locs hidden in my hair. It was so bad to cut it off. This product was so damaging that I would never buy again.

It was so expensive that I tried to find other ways to use it. I tried using this leave in product as a rinse out conditioner and that still didn’t work as I was running my fingers through it, it kept forming tangles even while drenched in water.

It wasn’t even hydrating enough to be a rinse out conditioner but has the consistency of one. I honestly don’t know what this product is for. I can’t use it on my hair dry, I can’t use it on my hair damp, I can’t use it on my hair drenched in water, I can’t use it as a leave in and I can’t use it as a conditioner.

This was honestly the worst product ever made. I’ve suffered so much breakage and hair fall from this awful product I will never use again. (I ordered this from the Mielle website not Walmart ).

I absolutely love this shampoo. I was looking for a new shampoo and decided to try this one since it has rosemary and peppermint (these are known to help with hair growth). This shampoo has an amazing minty/earthy scent that I absolutely love.

I like to leave it on for several minutes and massage my scalp with it as I clean my hair. I get a nice gentle tingle from the peppermint and rosemary. My hair is left feeling super clean when I’m done, but not stripped of moisture.

There’s also a decent amount of slip to it (not super slippery but enough to be able to run my fingers through and separate sections without causing tangles). My hair is left soft and shiny when I rinse it out.

I’m super happy I tried this shampoo and it will definitely be a repurchase for me! This is my first time trying something from the Mielle brand. I may check out other items from this collection!.

I used this shampoo and conditioner while staying at a hotel in the Woodlands, Texas. I had tried other salon recommended products as well as coconut oil, mayo, raw eggs. to treat my very dry, brittle hair, but nothing was working.

I thought it was a fluke how well my hair styled after using this for the first time. I used it again, then brought more home with me and used a third time. That was 3-4 years ago and I won’t use anything else now.

But worth every penny; for those who would never consider paying $30 for a small bottle of shampoo, you probably never tried THANN shampoo. Just one whiff and you’ll pay whatever it costs to use this amazing product every day – the luscious fragrances of orange and tangerine essential oils along with the olive and sunflower oils nourish and add shine to hair and the aroma will leave you smiling all morning long.

It even has wheat protein to add volume and smoothness. “Aromatic Wood” – don’t worry about the cost, just Try It!.

This product is great when you need a mild, moisturizing cleanse. It removed my buildup from the week before but left my hair soft and moisturized. I use this every other week alternating with a moisturizing shampoo and also a clarifying shampoo.

I highly recommend giving this product a try. I will be purchasing this product again.

The Pureology Strength Cure line reversed the extensive damage on my long, fine, bleached hair. No joke. No other hair care line has been able to accomplish this for me. I love this conditioner so much! When I finished my first regular-sized bottle I immediately bought a litre size of it.

I realize you’re supposed to be careful not to overload your hair with protein products, but my hair needed protein so badly that it’s just thriving right now, prancing around with smoothed-down well behaved cuticles.

There’s something about this protein conditioner that’s completely different from the rest; I’ve tried other protein conditioners and masks before, but they didn’t work nearly as well as this conditioner has.

Not even close. My hair is now easy to detangle, soft, sleek and shiny every time. It has even helped bring back some of my natural wave pattern that the bleaching had destroyed. One thing I wanted to mention; the video on this product page says to use a dime sized amount on your hair.

I don’t know what they’re smoking, but a dime size is clearly insufficient. I use a generous blob the size of 2 fingers of conditioner to coat my long damaged hair properly (avoiding the roots). A regular sized bottle lasted me about 18 wash days (rough estimate) I finished the conditioner bottle before I finished the shampoo.

The scent is ok; I know Pureology likes to hype up the scents of their products, I actually can’t detect any of the individual fragrance notes they mention on the bottle, it just has a floral scent to me.

It’s nice but lacks depth, so for me it’s just Ok nothing special. But that doesn’t matter because this conditioner is the bomb and it legit saved me from getting the big chop. It’s worth every penny.

Buy it if you have high porosity hair. just FYI I always used this conditioner with the matching Strength Cure shampoo and Miracle Filler leave-in protection spray, so I can’t tell you how it performs on its own.

The other products are also fantastic.

I typically use the red bottle of Wella shampoo & conditioner, but wasn’t able to find it in the store for a long time. I reverted back to my Aussie shampoo & conditioner which completely dried out my recently blonde highlighted 3C curls.

I had always heard good things about Pureology but could not get myself to spend the money. I bought the small bottles of strength cure shampoo and conditioner. Just after one wash I could see a difference, which I hated because I wanted every excuse to not like this product! Within 2 weeks my hair looked amazing.

The color was vibrant, my curls were flourishing, it overall just looked better than it ever has in my life! Once I finished the small bottles I went back to Wella, and although my hair didn’t look bad, it was not even comparable to how healthy it looked while I was using this.

Now that these are on sale I’m stocking up for the year because I don’t know how I could ever be without it! If you are not sure about this product and are questioning why a shampoo/conditioner would be over $70, take the risk and TRY THIS! I am 100% sold and have told all my boujee friends and family members.

I purchased multiple products of this scent, and will say there is some inconsistency in scent across each product. Overall, this strikes me as more of a Blueberry scent, than it does as a Blueberry Tobacco scent.

It doesn’t smell bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it just doesn’t exactly strike me as the scent described on the site. I will say my Beard wash separates pretty bad, and the conditioner seems to be chunky.

It still works, but seems off.

Although I am writing this review about Dr. Wolf Co-Wash I have every Dr. Wolf product (Oil, Co-wash, Beard Wash, Butter and Balm). First, the product (Co-wash) is fantastic. I use it regularly and it keep m beard clean and soft.

Second, it is a great product – in terms of ingredients. Don’t want unhealthy chemicals on your face. Dr. Wash Co-wash ingredients are gentle and beneficial Third, absolutely love the scent. My wife, family and friends find the aroma very pleasant.

Highly recommendation all of Fable Beard Co. products!!.

This beard wash is incredible! Sometimes i get into a hurry in the morning trying to get out the door to work, and forget my beard oil. That was the case the first morning i used this wash. The scent from this wash lasted for several hours! That is truly awesome.
