20 Best Cowash For 4C Hair (2023 Updated)

I’ve tried a many a co wash I only cowash maybe twice a month. I needed another cowash so I grabbed this one at ulta. I still had some design essential so i did one side with that and when i got to the other side and used the Mixed chickes.

let me tell you this mixed chicks co wash showed out. I could definately tell a difference it melted into my hair, the slip was A1 and my curls were popping and very soft. I have type 4 hair lol I still can’t figure out the texture thing but I think its 4a/4b.

and I though ugh this bottle ain’t going to last ne but I didn’t have to use alot. I like it.

The first time i use this i freaked out! My hair was left softttttttttt and detangled and well manageable! I recommend cowashing 4c hair, and this is amazing. The lather is ample so you feel like you are deep cleaning your hair.

The smell is nice, i follow up with a deep condition on days were my hair is really damaged but honestly that isnt needed.

I absolutely love this product! It has helped with my frizz, leaves my hair smooth and shiny. This is also my first co-wash and I am so glad I gave it a try. It does take some time to get used to but I noticed that I could use this everyday and it didn’t damage my hair.

I go to the gym every other day and get sweaty hair and I don’t like to keep it that way for the sake of not washing my hair. This doesn’t strip it and use it almost daily. It feels nourishing yet is able to clean still clean my hair.

I still have to clarify weekly and this does weight down my waves but I don’t care. I rather have healthy, shiny and frizz free hair with stretched out waves anytime. I have dark wavy and sort of thick hair for reference.

I recently started using As I Am, because I have curly hair and had yet to find a regimen that worked. My search is over. The cowash cleansing conditioner works to detangle my fine, curly, fragile hair, and leaves it soft and nourished.

I love the subtle coconut scent. I also love that it easily washes clean without weighing my hair down. My hair looks so healthy, shiny, and bouncy these days. And the products are so affordably priced.

How did I go so long without hearing of As I Am before? This should be the go-to recommendation for caring for curly hair on a budget.

Okay so I have very very curly hair. I’m the only one in my immediate family with curly hair so my whole life I never knew how to manage it. It was always so dry and fragile and no product that my stylists recommended would realt work to help it keep moisture.

Anyway, I finally happened upon this product and I swear it saved my hair. Maybe it’s a bit dramatic since it’s just the second day I used it but this combined with the Jamaican mango and lime cactus leave in moisturizer has already made a huge difference.

My hair feels so soft and feels so much better than it did before. For insight my hair is very curly and dry but also really thin. I hope that helps anyone looking into this product ☺️.

This product is great for using when hair is needing a slight cleansing and some moisture, especially in between wash days. It has a not too thick yet not too thin consistency so it spreads onto hair very well.

It smells clean and fresh, not too strong. I applied from roots to end and massaged the co-wash into my scalp then distributed product completely through hair with a wide-tooth comb. I then let sit on my hair for about 5 minutes.

After rinsing, my hair felt clean and refreshed and very soft to the touch. The quality of this co-wash I would say is awesome. I highly recommend this product, especially for those looking for a cleansing as well as moisturizing result.

I should start by saying that ultimately, it’s MY fault for not taking a closer look at the ingredients. HOWEVER, it markets itself as “natural” and for “all curly hair types”. I could have sworn “silicone free” was part of the list of things it DOESN’T HAVE (i.

e. paraben-free, mineral oil free, sulfate free, etc etc) that it prints on the side of the jar, but I clearly glossed over that list too quickly. Since for some reason I thought it was silicone free, I did not really check the ingredient list.

Last night while in the shower, as I picked up the tub and was about to try it out, my eyes just happened to land on “dimethicone” I was so bummed! I was super excited to try this co-wash. Again, I know it’s my fault for not checking the ingredients exactly, but they shouldn’t be saying “uses all natural ingredients to cut detangling time down by 30 minutes” – because it’s the dimethicone that’s REALLY doing the detangling, giving your hair that nice “slip”, but also weighing it down and causing nasty build-up.

I will be returning.

I love the product and liked getting a larger container. I should have kept the jar lid from the smaller jar I had just finished because this tiny little pump is terrible! It is so small is squirts out a very small amount in a skinny squirt that will easily just go between your fingers and there isn’t enough room to squirt onto your palm.

The pump is smaller than any I’ve seen on any soap, lotion, or conditioner…. just cheap and terrible.

I only write reviews when I’m attempting to steer consumers away from a terrible product OR when I’m completely enamored by a product. This review is of the latter. I have very very thin (imagine the diameter of a quarter when put in a ponytail), fine wavy hair that when curled with a curling iron straightens out within an hour.

My sister, is the opposite. She has MASSIVE, very very thick, very curly hair and tons of it (naturally I’m jealous). We both suffer from terrible dandruff. She was able to get it under control with this product.

I was hesitant to try it b/c I thought it would be too much for my hair, but boy was I wrong! Within the first use it transformed my hair and scalp- silky, shiny, soft and FLAKE-FREE. It does have a tingly sensation when used but I actually enjoy it! I will never purchase another hair product again.

Black woman with 4b/4c hair and I’ve struggled with dandruff since childhood. Around college, it calmed down and I began using more natural products, like SheaMoisture and the now defunct Aubrey Organics.

Both brands left my hair strong and healthy. Around grad school, my stress went through the roof, and with it, my dandruff came back in spades-lark, flaky parts of my scalp. I started using medicated shampoo that I needed a prescription for, and though it cleared my scalp, it was murder on my hair.

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect combination of scalp and curl care since. I’ve tried Selsun Blue Naturals, ketoconazole shampoos, and Tea Tree oil conditioners. but I picked this up on a whim one day and I finally found it.

I still need to shampoo with a brush and strong shampoo from time to time, but this right here is a game changer!.

Leaves hair greasy and dry feeling m. Made my hair issues a lot worse! I’ll stick to regular Tea tree oil! Also the review for the leave in and shampoo. I was so hopeful that this would help combat the Candida overgrowth on my scalp and neck, sadly it did not.

It smells horrid (I’ll never understand why they don’t reduce the terrible medication smell), it leave your hair feeling like it has not been rinsed completely even after taking over 10 mins to rinse (my hair is very thin and brittle due to chemo), over all it did nothing more than add to my issues.

This does not leave the hair soft or com able but more dry and brittle. Even with the leave in conditioner in the same brand! Waste of money!! Thank goodness Sally’s has a 90 return, bc I will be returning it !.

This shampoo has been a Godsend! Over the last few years, I have been losing A LOT of hair in shower, then when I’d comb through, during blow drying, and all throughout the day on my clothes. I had been an avid user of Lush hair care, trying a more natural route, but I recently because hypersensitive to high fragrance and dyes, so I needed to try something a little more toned down.

I’d also been having cystic itchy bumps on my scalp and in my hairline. As soon as I switched to this, I noticed a huge decrease in the amount of hair loss that I would experience throughout the day.

Less in shower, bathroom floor and all over my clothes. This shampoo smells great without being overpowering, makes my hair soft, shiny and silky, and also has helped itchy scalp bumps I had been experiencing.

My hair is naturally salt and pepper and the shine that comes through with this is amazing! Also been using in conjunction with the thickening spray from this line prior to blow drying. Have received multiple compliments on the healthy appearance of my hair.

I personally love this product, but can see how it may not work well for all. It’s probably best for those fighting volumen and frizz. I have thick, naturally MESSY hair and I’m trying to tame the curl so I can wear it curly sometimes.

My stylist recommended this and it took a little getting used to, because you won’t get a lather. But it cleans my hair just the right amount (my curls do better when my hair isn’t TOO clean) and leaves a nice conditioner without any greasy or weighed down feeling.

Since I also still straighten, I only use this when I’m going to go curly. Smells amazing – nice invigorating scent in the morning. As soon as I put it in my hair IN the shower, my hair starts to curl right away.

So I’m using this along with the matching conditoner and I’m pretty happy with the set so far. Hair Type: Virgin Fine strands, but a lot Wavy blend of 2A-2C Bra strap length Low/Normal porosity? I have traits from both low/high, so I’m not sure anymore.

Hair Concerns: Dry/itchy/oily scalp w/dry ends – fun stuff lol Frizz – Oh, the frizz! Hates coconut oil and protein – my hair gets very brittle and destroyed Since I have lower porosity hair, it takes forreeevverrr to fully wet it.

I usually spend the first few minutes massaging my head/roots under the water to get it saturated. I have to shampoo twice in order to actually get a decent lather and feel like my scalp is getting clean.

Sometimes I just use the green NYMN shampoo that I have as the first shampoo, but really quick cause that one tends to dry out my scalp. So I pretty much just distrubute the shampoo through my roots enough to help wet my hair more and then use the PM shampoo and really massage my scalp and make sure everything is nice and clean.

I use about a nickle/quarter sized glob and that seems to be enough as long as I’ve already done the first quick shampoo. The smell is nice and pleasant and like the conditioner, I have no complaints.

It lathers up really nicely, but rinsing out it does feel a little squeaky clean, but I guess that’s kind of normal with shampoos (especially if it has sulfates). I only use this shampoo like once a month (in rotation with other products I use that are sulfate-free), so I don’t really notice anything negative.

My scalp doesn’t get itchy, but it doesn’t completly cure it. I still get kind of itchy a day after it’s been washed, but I’m not sure what the cause of that is from. Possibly just being dry? It doesn’t really help my frizz either but doesn’t make it terribly worse like some shampoos have done.

Overall, I really like using this duo when I want a good cleaning. It leaves my hair feeling soft, clean, and smells wonderful!.

Oh, this co-wash is nice. So thick and creamy. Forget squeezing it out of the little hole in the cap. you gotta take the whole lid off. It’s that rich. I’m caucasian with naturally curly and brittle hair that is prone to frizz.

I have to be careful with my hair. This does a wonderful job. I love how this preserves the health of my hair and enhances my curls. My hair feels really good when I use this. The fragrance is a wee bit too strong, but it smells good and the smell tones down after a couple of hours.

I can’t run my fingers through my hair after washing like I can with the Pantene Gold co-wash, but I really like the texture and look of my hair with this one. The price is great. did I mention it was deliciously thick and creamy? Sold.

This is one of my favorite brands of shampoo. It aroma is very pleasant and the lather is always up to par. I started using this brand after a friend referred it to me and I haven’t used another since.

I have locs and this shampoo keeps mine and my boyfriend’s hair feeling like a million bucks after each wash. There’s no residue leftover and my hair doesn’t feel dry. I highly recommend.

I didn’t like this product for my tightly coiled hair. It honestly did nothing for my hair. Compared to others, I believe it could be the ingredients. The smell of the product was fine and part of why it received 3 stars.

I was disappointed, but I’m sure it’ll work for other hair types.

I’d been using AsIAm cowash for years but wanted to find a black owned brand. I LOVE this product. I have thick, 4b natural hair and this product helps me detangle as well as AsIAm did. The smell is quite lovely too.

Now for the KICKER. My husband has 3-type hair and seborrheic dermititis. We’ve been looking for over a DECADE for products to relieve his symptoms. We’d tried tea tree oil products, black seed oil, zinc based, and all the other shampoos recommended but nothing worked.

I wondered if shampoos in general are too harsh and tried this cowash and it’s the BEST product we’ve had results with. His scalp does not flake up as quickly (might see flakes day 5-6 after washing) and the flakes are smaller.

🙏🏾 This product is actually GENTLY CLEANSING his scalp. We have not had issues with any type of build up yet on either of our scalps or strands. I use natural products to help prevent that. Me: Miche leave in, Jamaican black castor oil and coconut oil mix, and aloe Vera gel.

Him: Miche leave in and jojoba oil. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a gentle and moisturizing cleanser.

I did not use this product start to finish because I switched to the TGIN shampoo instead because my scalp was in 100!!! It smells amazing and did not irritate my scalp in the least I just wanted a fresh start and decided to use the shampoo.

I generally co-wash when I am going to keep my hair curly so I am excited for this product specifically for this function. I am a little biased because I purchased the entire line with the exception of the styling gel and another one of the conditioners and they have all be !!!!THE BOMB!!!!! I am curious to read other reviews.

I have a dry tangled mess by the end of seven days wearing a wash and go using regular-degular products I get from TAR-jay but only a few of them (not the ones in my regular line up) have been as good as TGIN.

If you like to concept of co-wash get this because to lessen the risk of irritating your scalp which is a primary concern for me.

I have below shoulder length, blonde waves. They can go very curly with the right products, and almost straight with the wrong ones. There’s something in TGIN Cowash that causes the waves to spring up.

I’m not even sure what it is, but I can feel it even while my hair is wet. Once a month, after an oily massage, I’ll use a regular shampoo to remove the oil from my scalp, but otherwise, this cowash is all I use.

It took me months of trial and error with dozens of cowashes to settle on this, after I had a bad experience with Deva NoPoo, after using it for almost a decade. I removed one star because I HATE the smell.

It smells like bubblegum. I actually add some Rain scented essential oil to every bottle, to make the scent more tolerable.

I like this product i first started using it when i was 17. On my natural hair it cleansed my hair yet left it moisturized. I use this when i dont want to strip my hair or even as a gentle cleanser. Keep in mind this is a conditioning wash hair cleanser so it does more moisturizing than deep cleaning.

This new Lottabody line is awesome! I love this leave in conditioner, it leaves my hair with a healthy look and shine. The scent is nice and light not over bearing like some of the other leave in conditioners.

I would definitely recommend this product.

I decided to stray away from my usual hair brand when I saw this at Walmart. Attractive packaging is what caught my eye. I also purchased the co wash and conditioner. I prefer the co wash than the shampoo because of my kinky hair texture.

It was about 3 dollars a bottle which is super affordable smells great and I did see some added shine and moisture to my hair. I probably won’t but the whole family anymore but might stick with the co wash from this line.
