20 Best Cot For Car Camping (2023 Updated)

I love the pivot arm. It makes set up so easy! I have been using cots like these for several decades and the pivot arm makes all the difference. Plus, the nubs where the cross bars lock onto the cot frame are made of steel instead of plastic.

No more broken nubs! Yet, I dinged Teton one star because the carry bag design is rotten. How could anyone mess up a cot carry bag, you ask? Well, let me tell you. The bag has an open top design, meaning there is no zipper to close the bag.

On each end of the top is a small velcro type cinch. The cinches are so close to the ends of the open top that they do not help keep the bag closed. When you carry the bag you get the feeling that the cot is going to fall out of the bag, especially when you dumped the bag to the ground.

If they had one more cinch in the middle of the top, maybe that would help to prevent the bag feeling so open. With the open top bag, carrying the bag from the car to the campsite means that anything can drop into the bag.

Think rain drops, leaves, bugs, etc. Setting up camp in the rain is no fun, but with this bag design, once you set up your tent and you want to get your cot(s) inside, you are going to bring in water with the carry bag(s) because the bag won’t keep water out.

It is open to the sky. Trying to load an open top bag into the car for a camping trip provides challenges. Since the cot is 20 pounds, you want that closer to the bottom of the car load. But sliding other bags and equipment on top of the open top bag means that things get caught on the cot.

A zippered closed top would be much better. And at the end of the camping trip, when you are loading the car, any debris on the bottom of other bags or equipment will slip into the open top carry bag for the cot.

When you get home, instead of wiping off the outside of the bag, you are going to have to empty the cot out of the bag so that you can clean the interior of the bag. I am not sure why it was so difficult to make a bag with a zippered top.

I can’t believe that a zippered top would increase costs all that much. After all the good engineering with the cot, they seem to have let the intern design the bag. For a company that makes outdoor products, you would think they would have a better idea of bag design.

I am going to swap out these bags with the carry bags from the old cots I am going to retire.

In the past, we used an aero bed, but because my husband is heavier than I, I tended to roll toward the middle of the bed which was uncomfortable. We just purchased the Teton Universal Cots and looking forward to using them the following weekend.

However, we did a “dry run” to check on the ease of opening them and to see how they fit in our 9’x12′ tent. It was a breeze to “open” the cots and while some said the flip/lever arm was difficult, we didn’t find that a problem.

I also like the height. I might add that we’re 74 years old. I was impressed with how comfortable it is, but will probably get a pad for it next year. We travel by motorcycle with a small trailer so we have to be conscious of how much we can pack.

I’ll have to see how it feels sleeping on it, but at this point, I would definitely recommend it.

Excellent Cot, especially for a big and tall guy. Sturdy and comfortable. I’d say that the only fault is it is very hard to snap the last corner of this cot in. (Some come with this little tool attached to the cot to make it easier to slide the last corner in, this one didn’t have that tool.

I’d recommend you get the one with the lever/tool. ) I also bought the pad and that made it even more comfortable. Teton makes the top of the line sporting and camping products. I don’t think there are other cots that compare to this one! NOTE: I just came back from a 10 night camping trip, definitely an extremely comfortable and reliable cot.

I rate it 4 Stars Out of 5. (Mostly because the forth corner is very hard to clip in) Get the one with the built in tool to snap the last corner into place.

I bought one of these cots at a sporting goods store a few years back. Ive probably slept on this here Coleman cot for 30 campings trips and music festivals. Using the cot is a wonderful way to stay off the ground and avoid rocks.

Inside my Coleman 3-person tent, it created a lovely little living space for me to sleep in; with my Coleman sleeping bag of course ;). Setting it up is very simple, as well as breaking it down and putting it back in the sleeve to store.

Be careful while opening and closing the scissor mechanism frame, as fingers are prone to pinching/injury. the material stretched across the frame was durable for the first 10-15 uses; however, it did begin to rip away/shred from the stitching that binds it to the frame, in the middle section.

my average weight over the last 30 uses is 190 lbs. website claims it can support up to 300lbs so I can’t imagine me weight being too much of a stress to the material. Overall a great product, I’m here on the website to buy another of the exact same one; saw the comments and felt like adding to the experience.

wish it didn’t start to deteriorate on me after a few years but I loved this darn heavy cot and I’m back for another. 8. 5/10.

This cot seems to be of good quality and I found it for a reasonable price. These are comfortable to sleep on and great to have around for camping or even houseguests. Assembling the cot at first is quite difficult, I was able to manage it with the help of a youtube video (standing cot on end and stepping on one end of bar to leverage the knob into the bar), but I imagine many people with less physical ability will get frustrated.

I left it assembled for a week and the canvas stretched enough that it was easier to assemble after that. I would recommond to coleman that they promote that video, leave a link to it, or create their own version.

I’ve had two of these now and yes each one has eventually ripped but only after about 7 months and 200 straight nights. That’s with babying it but also sometimes sitting on it which it’s not really designed for.

It will last over 10 years for the person who only camps about 20 times a year but if you’re getting this for a daily guest bed, etc. be prepared to replace it every 6 to 7 months or so, depending on how it’s treated.

After my first one ripped, I tried it again and was really careful with how I got out and into it with the new one. Careful with not bouncing too hard on it and being careful getting out of it. That extended the life about 2 months.

I’m not sure a stronger 600-lb cot would last much longer either because it might be the same problem of the fabric sagging and then ripping. Logically I suppose thicker fabric would equal longer life but again that too is going to stretch out.

Regardless, it’s a really nice cot and I have learned to view it as something I’ll have to replace every 7 months or so, just as I do a shirt that’s worn out or a messenger bag I use daily. At the price it’s not a huge expense to replace it every 7 months or so.

I definitely recommend it for casual camping but the people who are saying it rips are probably the ones using it daily month after month or who accidentally ripped it by not being conscious of the force applied.

This cot has been perfect for me and is very comfortable. I use a self inflating mat on top and the quality of sleep is perfect while tent camping. Easy to set up and take down. I don’t use the side table since I have something else I use as a bedside table.

I’m a large person and a side sleeper. This is a great product in my opinion.

It is absurd for Coleman not to even offer a replacement fabric sling as a replacement part. Their supplier has to make them for the normal production runs, so why couldn’t they order and stock a few thousand extras? It would greatly increase the good will with the buyers of these cots.

By not doing so, the cot is reduced to 30 pounds of scrap steel that someone has to recycle. What a huge waste. The disposable mentality is pervasive in manufacturing, sales, and many corporate business models.

Ironically, it runs counter to the mentality of many users of these cots who would like to repair their broken ones, and continue using them. I am asking Coleman to do the right thing for the environment, and its customers, and make replacement fabric slings available as spare parts.

It is a reasonable thing to do, and extremely easy for them to implement.

The pro is that when the cot is new, it is without question the most comfortable bed you could sleep on, rivaling real beds!!! Depending on use, it could last a really long time. The negative is that unless the metal springs have been improved, after awhile they can catch on your skin or clothing when getting in and out of bed.

I have heavily used this cot for 2 years during the serious illness of a family member. The springs finally gave out, and I’m replacing the cot with a different design. The second issue is portability.

It’s not meant for camping trips where you are hiking to your destination. Even transporting it in and out of hospitals has been a bit challenging!!! But if you want an extremely comfortable cot for light use, you will be pleased.

I ordered on a Tuesday and received it 12 noon on Wednesday! I got the deluxe which cost a little bit more than a shorter version on Amazon. It’s a good length I’m 5’7” and I have extra space. If you’re used to sleeping on a firmer mattress this will be comfortable.

I like more of a medium softer mattress and I still slept fine. You can add a body pillow to soften it up a little. I put a fitted sheet on the foam cushion which keeps it in place. Easy to set up and easy to take down in a pinch it’s great I’m using it while waiting on getting a new bed! I recommend it and I recommend getting it from Walmart the delivery was perfect and fast and they followed the directions perfectly great experience!.

Frequent Campers can tell immediately when a product is fit for purpose! Back to basics for me! This bed is so comfortable and similar to one I slept on 50 years ago camping with my Grandparents, Its a bit big on the pack size but its pretty light in weight, my self inflatable mattress along with my other 2 stretcher beds are now packed away in the shed! People complain about mattress slippage? well just put your towel under it lol.

I am so happy with this bed I will find space for it regardless. I will revisit review in a few years as I do all the gear I get from Snowys.

This was so easy to setup! I’m not a Spring chicken and it at first seemed too tight to put the cross bar on but if you pull the 2 long bars in a little bit (to give some slack) it snaps right on. It’s as wide as my husband’s VERY expensive name brand cot.

I can wait to get it out on a trip!!!.

Width is great, like a twin bed, instead of a normal narrow cot. Like internet says, when install end pieces, on the last corner, use a hammer handle or similar to stretch between frame and end piece to allow end piece to go over connecting nub a lot easier.

Remember NOT to sit on edge, put your butt further back onto cot when sitting down – not on edge/side tubing. Seems like it will be fantastic. Priced similar item for $115 at sporting goods store.

Returning due to sheer size. This cot is HUGE. If we were skinnier we’d both fit on it. And it’s very heavy. Not good for hiking in sites. We need something smaller, lighter. We’re too old to haul this thing around.

But really sturdy.

Haven’t had a chance to use this product yet but I did give it a test run at home and it seems fairly stable and comfortable. Looking forward to using it on my next camping trip and I’m sure I’ll be getting lots of good use of it in the backyard this summer.

Easy set up and take down. Packs up effortlessly into a slim carrying case. Would highly recommend!.

Very good product but too big for most tents. Quite uncomfortable unless you put a double sim or airbed on it. The metal bar in the middle hurts if you try to roll over. It is however, very sturdy.

This cot is awesome! Got it to use in the breakroom on back shifts. Easy to open and wonderfully sturdy. I’m a large person and I can lay on this and turn over without any fear of flipping out or breakage.

The folding back up can be a little tricky to figure at first but definitely recommend it.

Zoro just informed me that the 2 person cot on the Wal-Mart site is the wrong item. It’s not a 2 person but an extra wide. Which is not what I ordered. I ordered this item twice! The first one I sent back for a refund.

The second one was delivered to the wrong house! My entire camping trip is ruined because of Wal-Mart and it’s false advertisements. $185. 00 later and now they tell me I have to wait 7-10 days before I get my refund.

I HATE Wal-Mart !.

The cot is very comfortable and fits me well at 5’11” and 205lbs. It came packaged nicely and was in good shape. Following the instructions, I assembled the 3 piece side rails but could in no way slide them in from top to bottom from either first side opening in the material.

Before going further, I assembled it with the last bit of material not supported and put the legs on as instructed. Easy enough. It took a little to bend them into place but not difficult by any means.

Cot is very comfortable at this point with the last 6″ of material unsupported but not the way it is supposed to be. I popped off the end rail section, slid it into the middle fabric opening and down into the last section of fabric.

I used the leg extension to push down to the point where it engaged and slipped onto the middle section. No problem and onto the other side. Same procedure, all good, complete assembly! Getting it apart the same night was incredibly difficult using the reverse process.

I was able to undo one but not the other. I needed about a 1/8″ more room as now the ends are separated inside the fabric but unable to clear each other to be removed. I left it semi disassembled overnight and it came apart with no issues.

I reassembled it completely to let the other side stretch out. I think I will actually prefer this cot over the collapsible taller one I bought as well as it is simpler and lighter and will hold up better.

(the collapsible one has already cut the fabric where it gets caught in the its mechanisms). Nice cot, break it in and should be fine.

This is the second cot I’ve bought. The first was too hard to put together without extra muscle. This one assembled easily. My friend and I took some hallucinogenic and I was really able to haul my cot and blankets in one trip outside my tent to lay on and watch the stars and watched the meteor shower! My friends were envious of my comfy cot while we laid around the fire.

When we were done, I easily hauled it back into my tent! It provided a good rest after a laughter filled evening.

I bought 4 of these. They are nice. I usually still add a small sleeping pad on top just for insulation because I’m always cold. The only downfall is how hard they are to put together. Like you better put your whole body into getting the tension rods in.

Not so great if you have bought these for your 11 and 13 year old to use on scouting trips and they usually set up their sleeping gear. I hope it gets easier with more use.

Great cot! I just opened the shipment and laid it out. It’s as easy to open as a folding camping chair. Extremely comfortable, almost like sleeping on a home’s twin bed. and the extra 2″ width makes a positive difference from the usual 25″ cot.

The slight upward angle at the pillow end is designed just right. Very reasonable price, as well. Better design than other “military” style cots. You can buy with confidence.

Very nice. Fast and easy to set up. However. when we opened the cot, the metal tube that goes to the foot end was broken off at the plastic folding leg connector. this was very disappointing because it made that end drop down with no support.

I had read in the reviews that this has happened to someone else but thought it was just a one time thing. But then it happened to me.

This cot is just what I was looking for for my sons dorm when he has visitors. Extra bonus is it came in his colleges school colors!

I set up the cot when I first received it. It went together well and felt comfortable, so I packed it up until I needed it. The first night I actually used the cot, I found one of the silver side frames (comprised of 4 shock-corded hollow poles) had a broken shock cord.

I checked the other one, and found that, although the 4 frame pieces were still corded together, the shock cord was literally hanging by a thread on both ends. It appears the flimsy shock cord used by Helinox was cut by the edges of the hollow aluminum tubes comprising the side frames when those tubes were folded up for storage.

The shock cord must obviously be much more durable to hold up to regular folding and unfolding of the side frames pieces. I have used shock-corded poles on tents for years, with repeated set up and break down, and never had a shock cord break.

I filed a warranty claim pursuant to the Helinox 5-year warranty. I will update this review if and when I receive a response from Helinox. I am concerned that if Helinox just sends me identical replacement shock-corded side frames that they won’t last for more than one or two breakdowns either.

Much more durable shock cord will be necessary to make this product useful long term. As is, one star is too generous. This is a serious defect in a $360 product! Beware expensive cots with remarkably cheap shock cords.

I’ll admit it: I’m not as young as I once was. But oddly, I find myself camping more now, and I’m less comfortable in the great outdoors at night. I camp with Scouts at least monthly and often more with family or friends.

I bought a nice, big cot for car camping, and sleep got a whole lot better. I even figured out how to put two compact cots together to use under the REI Kingdom double bed for me and my wife. So, based on these experiences, and a $200 gift card from my scout unit, I bought this cot on sale for nothing out-of-pocket, knowing the return policy of REI.

I’m glad I did. I used it for 4 nights in the 100-mile Wilderness on the Great Circle Trail, where the campsites are pretty rugged. While my tent mates were put out by roots and rocks, I was not. I used a pad on top slid into a Big Agnes bag’s sleeve.

I did quite well with it. Pros: crazy light for a cot. It doesn’t weigh much different than a luxury pad and requires only minimal padding for insulation and some softness. It’s pretty compact too, again, for a cot.

Cons: it’s minimally sized. It’s narrow and not particularly long. You may find yourself in contact with the side rails. It’s low to the ground making it harder to get yourself on and off. It’s very stiff to assemble as there are no special leverage clamps to use.

Overall, for the use I intend, it will be a welcome addition to my pack. While not an ultralight accessory, it is an ultralight luxury worth the extra few ounces for me. I’ve got strong hands and can press my weight against the legs to assemble it and sleep in a way to avoid the rails.

The pros outweigh the cons.

I got tired of having air mattresses fail on me. I wanted something that would fit into a backpacking tent that would work for backpacking or car camping. This cot fit the bill. It’s light and compact enough to take back packing and will never leave me laying on the ground in the middle of the night.

It’s quite comfortable too. Old army cots and the like had bars across the ends that were uncomfortable. This cot uses four supports that keep the top taught without end bars and also without damaging the bottom of your tent the way a standard cot might.

As with all cots, it is a bit colder than using a foam pad, so it’s good to bring a blanket or something to put on top of it in cool weather. There are a couple of drawbacks to this cot design. It’s low to the ground, so it doesn’t provide a place to sit like a traditional cot does.

It’s also challenging to get the supports on. They are under a lot of tension, so it takes a lot of force to get them on. My 14-year-old daughter was not able to do it. With practice I’m sure she could but if you have arthritis or weak hands, this may not be the cot for you.

I purchased 4 of these cots about a year ago. My family and I wanted to start camping and they were the most affordable option. All 4 of these cots are slightly different in build and quality, which is why I cannot recommend them.

First: 2 of the cots have deformed on one end where the leg has pushed out causing a distinct downward lean on that side. I ended up letting my kids use these 2 because their legs do not go down far enough for them to notice.

For my wife and I it is too much angle and uncomfortable. Second, 2 of the cots have the nylon handles stitched on the out side of the fabric causing unnecessary stress on the connection. Eventually this will pull out destroying the cot.

The other two have the stitching in a much studier inside seam, putting the stress of supporting the weight of carrying the cot on the frame instead of the fabric. Third, and this may be an issue for all cots, the fabric has deformed/streched after use and now the side support bars press into my arms while I am using the cot.

I do not have a sleeping pad which may help but the stretching is fairly sever. Finally I will say that set up and tear down of these cots is really easy. They are not particularly compact for storage but they do stack fairly well and stow in or van without issue.

We bought 4 of these in the fall of 2018 for a girl scout camping trip. We were indoors as our girls were little (7yo). The first night, one if the legs broke from the foot area because a girl fell off the end of it.

We thought it was a fluke, and since it didn’t stop the functionality of the cot, we kept it. They were packed away for future use. We took them out just a few days ago for another camp out, and this time, on a different cot, yet another leg broke.

Completely snapped in half, like it was made of plastic. These are unstable in the foot area, and break so easily when they tip. Now we have to invest in something different after only 2 uses because we have 4 more trips planned within the next few months.

very frustrating.

Came broken. husband had to attach one of the parts to the frame. Very uncomfortable. The cot is curved in a way that forces your head forward too much. Has a cool pocket and is easy set up/tale down for sure.

I slept on it 1 night- I can’t sleep in it again. I am 33 with no previous issues and a healthy weight- and was in pain the whole day after sleeping on it.

Wanted a smaller a bit lighter cot than our Coleman XL’s. Love the XL’s with their side tables you optional attach or not and with the mats they feel great. HOWEVER we sometimes have company and I am at 5’2″ and it’s nice to share with them and also I camp alone a lot and been doing that for over 50 years.

Hubby has never been into that. He’s fine I take off on my own and so having a bit smaller lighter tent at hitting 70 this year is nice. It is not tiny and not light weight either. But defintely lighter and a bit smaller than the BIG ones.

I used a 2 inch back pack mat we made over 49 years to help soften a good nights sleep. And so probably will not make a special mat for this as I did for the XL’s which are 80 inches long and 34 inches wide.

And this gives me more room in my tent. I do miss the side table but bring folding little tables that work well just really liked the netted cup holder. Yes I can recommend but not for heavy people over 220 is what I’m guessing.

Very impressed with how easy to set up and put down, sturdy, and how big! Even my 6 foot husband would have a comfortable amount of space on it. We haven’t used it yet but can see it being a great guest bed too.

I bought this for my grandson to sleep on when he spends the night. Air mattress just keeps deflating. I laid on it and it was comfortable. My grandson loved it. He’s only 5 but hopefully it will last long time.

This is a great bed. I bought it as a sunbed for my garden – as there was a shortage of garden furniture in all shops. BUT I’m so glad I purchased this item. It’s just fab. It comes in a carry bag, extends out – so no assembly required, and is at a height that makes it so easy to get on and off from.

It’s very comfortable, easy to carry around. and yes I have even used it to camp out overnight in the back garden whilst having a make shift “adventure”. Very happy that shops were out of stock of sun beds as this product is so much better.

I am really happy with my folding cot. It is sturdy and wide enough for my folding mattress. I intend to use the cot for my elderly Mother when I take her on day trips so needed the right height and a solid structure.

This will do the job. Easy to set up and take down and actually fits back into the carry bag.

Great product, but the cot that I received, looked used because of the scratches on it. I used it for 2 nights and one of the supports fell apart at the weld. I’m a little disappointed because I’m getting too old to sleep on the ground while camping and I have bad luck with air mattresses, so I’m back to square one again!.

Heavy duty, wide and very comfortable, cot. A breeze to set up. Note: There is a zippered pouch under the head end that can be used to store the rugged carrying bag, or a pillow. The carrying bag is very sturdy with two heavy straps that fit over the shoulder.

So happy with this cot that I bought a second one.

Sturdy when assembled. Most importantly, it’s comfortable. The free side pockets attachment is icing on the cake! Highly recommended. In fact, as soon as I am done typing this review, I am ordering a second one.

I was a bit worried about this order. So many reviewers rated it as difficult to impossible to complete the set up of the final corner. But the price was right, and it came with a free organizer. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the construction.

It should last for years. As for the difficulty with the final corner, it is very over dramatised. I watched the video then put it up in about 2 minutes by myself. Stiff, but very doable. I am a 68 year old man of average stature.

If you are taller than 6 foot this cot will be very uncomfortable. It is also narrower than the other cots of this style offered: 26 inches wide instead of 30 or 31 inches. It is less expensive by several dollars, while quality may be similar, be advised that it is not the same size! At 6’4″ (76 inches) I am certainly glad I read the specifications carefully before purchasing.

It is a firm and well built cot. We are in our middle 60’s and are not as strong as we were 10 years ago, so it is a little tough to get the cross pieces on and off (the bar that goes across the head end and foot end).

At our age we have the everyday aches and pains so we also added a 3 inch foam mattress (it’s just a 3″ piece of foam we had laying around the house) on top the cot and we slept like a baby.

lightweight and comfortable. I have not used it enough to decide how durable it is, but it seems sturdy and well made. My only suggestion is to glue the plastic feet onto the legs as they may slip off and become lost.

I bought the Lounge Cot 5/20 and used it to visit my folks and stay outside in their yard on The SF Peninsula during the Pandemic. This is by far the best cot I have ever used and one of the more comfortable beds I have slept on.

I enjoy sleeping outside at home in Tahoe, and I’m on my cot on the back patio more nights than inside. I’ve slept nearly 100 nights on this cot and it still looks and feels new. The suspended bed surface makes it, the perfectly placed and not overdone padding is excellent, the adjustable and lockable head section makes it into a lounge chair, and the independently adjustable legs make so you can have a level sleeping surface on any unlevel ground surface.

I cannot recommend this product enough. Be aware that this is a large item and definitely not intended to be carried far, but for car camping, being or welcoming a visitor, or as a second bed, this is the best most comfortable cot you will find anywhere.

I’m sure to purchase a second to have on hand.

This will work well in my minivan/camper set up. The adjustable legs mean that I can level it out even though the van floor isnt level. The legs were a bit stiff at first but i got them moving. Im not sure how to fold it up but Im sure I can find a video online.

Its very comfortable. Its a bit wider than I wish because of the size of my van but it is comfy. It has room under the legs where I can store things. When a person is on it, it sags a bit but there is still a good bit of space underneath.

While I have no other cot to compare against, this was an excellent move from pads on the ground. As a stomach sleeper, the slight sag in the middle is something I’ll have to address, but otherwise it was great.

If you’re a side or back sleeper, buy it. It’s big, it’s bulky, but if you’re driving to your campsite, it’s worth the room it takes up in you vehicle. I’m not sure how they’d be able to take away wait and still retain the comfort.

Ordering a second for my previously reluctant husband.

This is the cot you want for tent camping / car-accessible camping. It wouldn’t be something you want to carry on the trail. Pros: – The outside bungee attachments plus the padding on the cot make it super comfortable, even without additional padding.

– The six feet on the legs of the cot have tough plastic pads on them so it won’t sink into soft ground easily or poke holes in the bottom of your tarp/tent. – There are geared knobs near the head side that serve dual purposes.

1. They lock the cot into place when you collapse it so it won’t unfold when you pick it up. Awesome. 2. They lock the head section at a slight elevation if you like a little incline while you sleep.

a. The two legs on the head section telescope out about 5-6 inches to support the incline (if desired). – I sleep on my side, stomach, and back; it felt comfortable in each position! – Pretty quiet when getting up or laying down.

Side-notes/Cons: – Don’t sit on the very end, there are not support legs there and it becomes a catapult (according to my 5 year old). Not really a con, but just something to be aware of. – Again, not a con, but it will take up space in your vehicle or storage.

It is 32”x35”x10” (LxWxD) when collapsed. (worth it. ).

Summary: great with some workarounds, big and bulky, comfortable. I bought 3 of these to use as sleepover cots and to quietly take with us to hotels because my kids won’t share a bed and some places don’t allow ‘extra’ roll-away beds.

5* aspects of this cot are: – very comfortable. Extremely wide and with padding out over the sides of the frame. – it’s long. I am 5’10” and it’s easily big enough for me. – big feet will protect your floors/groundsheet.

– adjustable headrest and possible use of the turning knob to lift the head-end fully to create a lounger (I am not sure this is ‘in spec’ as the teeth are plastic and I expect they’d break if it’s used with the back upright as some people suggest).

“Meh” aspects are: – can be initially hard to figure out – you have to undo/tighten side knobs before it will unfold/stay up. Those are then a little uncomfy as they poke through the padding, depending on your positioning on the cot.

– it’s VERY big when folded – read the dimensions and increase the folded depth to 11 or 12″ from the stated 8. 5″. Three cots (not in boxes) barely fit into my Mid-size SUV trunk with the third row seats folded down.

These are too big for car-camping, unless you have a lot of storage or minimal other gear. Note that they would also not fit into smaller dome-type tents. 1* aspects are: – no carry bag, no strap to hold it closed and it does not stay closed or folded.

It’s a two-handed job to carry these and they’re constantly trying to open, or the legs drop down. – when using as a cot, the foot end does not ‘click’ into place and the elastic bungees that hold the padding in place tend to make the foot end flick up suddenly.

Not great for kids. Annoying for adults. You can fix this with an elastic band/bungee, but we should not have to do this as it would be an easy design fix for REI. – it seems to collapse a lot. You’ll need to check the legs if it’s even moved an inch or two as they don’t lock into place and if they slide out of alignment, it collapses.

Top tip: I bought three massive ‘patio cushion bags’ from Amazon at about $15 each (33″ square by 12″+ depth with handles). These enable me to carry the cots and hide what they are when we go to a hotel and also they protect the cots in storage: a worthwhile addition.

(But c’mon REI: a bag or straps should be included as it does not fold ‘small’ as the description says. ).

After watching a YouTube video from a guy who showed this in his 4Runner (Sleeping in a 4th Gen 4 Runner | REI Kingdom Cot 3), I decided to purchase. I couldn’t find it online anywhere. REI’s site simply displayed “this product is not available.

” Called REI to see if had been discontinued. The sales person didn’t think so, but couldn’t find it in their system either. She offered to walk around the store to see if she could find one & she did! Drove straight to the store & purchased it using 1/2 price sale for REI members.

While there saw another one still in the box. Another salesman told me I was lucky as there were only a couple more available in all of USA. Once at home, quickly set it up. Very easy. Really comfortable.

Not too heavy, but it’s big. Folds easily. When folded the depth is reasonable, 11-12 inches or so, but very wide, 31 inches. Very high temps in PNW this weekend and it occurred to me I could easily carry it down to my basement and quickly set it up to sleep tonight where it’s much cooler.

For the sake of others, I really hope REI hasn’t discontinued.
