20 Best Cooling Pads For Laptops (2023 Updated)

I had gotten this model several years ago. It claims a 17 inch laptop will it on it. While technically true it doesn’t take into account that modern 17 inch laptops have wide screen displays which means a couple of inches on either side will be overhanging the chill mat.

But the core area will be cooled by the fans. When I first got mine a 17 inch laptop had a square-ish 4:3 aspect ratio. And while I only used it on my 15. 6 inch laptops (16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio machines) it was good at keeping them cool.

There is a definite audible sound coming from the fans while they’re in use. Once the cable is plugged into a powered USB type A port the fans immediately go to work. Their speed is not adjustable. If using this in quiet places or while watching a movie it isn’t loud enough to interfere or be a nuisance.

More like the sound a desktop oscillating fan might make. I’m testing it out in my home that doesn’t have central air conditioning. No A/C in the home office. So far the laptop has shut down automatically a couple of times due to overheating.

It might be the fans are smaller than my broken version. Although I have found using the ceiling fan serves to cool both myself and my laptop to a certain extent. Here are the things that have changed since its last iteration: 01) cooling fans are smaller.

02) inner assembly is now held in place with Philips head screws making it easier to take fans out for cleaning, repair, replacement. 03) the neoprene fabric that once enveloped the entire chill mat now covers the upper and lower halves.

A seam along the center width of the rear of the chill mat is more evidence the thing can be easily taken apart. 04) the USB 2. 0 cable is now centrally located internally.

Owned for a day, consider this review first impressions. – Fan is powered by USB cable. has an OK length to plug into the left or back of laptop. – Fits my 15. 6″ gaming laptop OK. – If there is not a lot of grip on the bottom of the laptop could see this sliding around as other reviews have said.

My laptop was designed with ‘shoe like grip’ on most of the bottom and can still slide if not positioned well. – Fans are relatively loud in my opinion – not measured but if relative silence is what you’re looking for you will find this too loud, louder than a modern laptop at idle significantly but you always have the option of unplugging it when not under load – As other reviewer has mentioned the structure does not feel very strong but holds my laptop OK even when resting my hands on the laptop.

– Note the weight of this item if it is a concern for you – its not that light. – The main draw of this item for me was the fact it can cool the laptop and you can use it in your lap on the sofa or whereever – it is OK for that, completely solid on the bottom but ventilated surface on the top.

I did not find cooling mats that clearly advertise sofa use as being supported that looked as good as this. – The cooling fan performance is not great for my laptop (g533qr) in a stress test it only lowered GPU / CPU temps under load from 86.

7c/74. 8c to 84c/72. 3c and frame rates were only 5% more stable (tested via 3d mark) – better than nothing but there is noise that comes with it. My laptop is new so cooling performance is as good as it can be.

Overall I expected better cooling performance and noise, but there aren’t a lot of options (that I could find) if you’re looking for cooling and sofa use. Unless you’re gaming or doing other workloads that require a lot of resources (video editing / rendering) I would use a regular laptop tray without any cooling at all.

If you are gaming or doing heavy workloads at a desk there are plenty more cooling pads better than this.

My gaming laptop is well equipped with fans already so I was never worried about cooling issues of my hardware. My PC’s fans are plenty powerful, and if manually turned up to maximum effort sound like a f18 powering up to take off the carrier deck.

So needless to say, my computer stays plenty cool even under heavy gaming. The max I’ve seen is 85 degrees out of my GPU. But I along with my wife was concerned with the heat’s effect on my little swimmers.

A laptop running at 85 degrees Celsius isn’t necessarily comfortable sitting on your lap, and definitely not good for the crown jewels. With this chill mat, it’s a win-win situation for me. I keep my laptop a few degrees cooler and get to keep my fertility.

The added bonus of the comfortable angle is nice too.

Ive got huge fans in my G7 laptop, they come on not often but this laptop gets very warm, the fans make a bit of noise, not distracting but noise. Ive noticed the come on less often now using this cooler, and my G7 is not as hot so Im very happy with this cooling pad! Purchase with confidence!!! Really like this.

Works Alright (having trouble finding a difference than without a cooling pad), fans arent loud. Item isnt clunky and generally looks decent. Fast shipping, although in my opinion, the price is a little on the steep side.

Had this product for less than 6-7 months and the cable started to come apart at the plug-end. Requested that it be replace because it should not have come apart like it did. This is the 4th cooling pad that I have had over the last twenty years, BUT ALL THE OTHERS WERE OTHER MODELS and not this brand.

Happened to be at MicroCenter and thought this would be a better fan but it really was about the same quality with the fan part. Cable was inferior. Would not recommend since the company wanted me to pay $6 for a replacement.

I shouldn’t have to pay for a replacement since this should not have fall apart. All the other four different brands didn’t fall apart. I. just wore them out after 3-4 years.

It certainly has the size, and the flip up stoppers at the front are awesome for holding your laptop up when you’ve set the legs on the highest setting. It’s great for my purpose as it brings the laptop screen to eye level on my shorter desk.

The fans are powerful enough to keep my laptop cool through light to medium loads. Sometimes my laptop engages the fans, but usually backs off after a minute or so. The noise is noticeable in a quiet room.

It’s not the quietest I’ve heard, but I don’t think you’re going to get much quieter for the amount of air it moves. It does have a ramp wheel at the back if you don’t need it on high all the time, but it’s poorly positioned and hard to get at without moving to change on the fly.

In hindsight, I should have made this purchase with the original laptop! Without it, my laptop, sitting on my desk, was constantly hot, fans running. Eventually, over the course of a year, the battery expanded, pushing the TouchPad up.

Not a great situation. This cooling stand raises the bottom of the laptop, so that the fans can work, plus it adds fans of its own to aid in the process! The fans do make some noise, as any fan will do, but it is a minor background noise that is easy to ignore.

Had I made this purchase originally, I would not have had the overheating and battery expansion issues. I gave it 4 stars, instead of 5, only because the stand only has 2 USB-2 ports on the back, one of which powers the stand from the laptop itself.

It would be much nicer if the stand had USB-C ports (making it a USB-C hub) and optionally powered itself with its own power cord. But even as is, it is a worthwhile purchase, highly recommended from the start if you want to increase your laptop’s lifespan!.

I bought this expecting it to be noisier than the fan in my new laptop. But I am pleasantly surprised at the low level noise considering it has 2 fans. I wanted this because I have a new Intel i7 laptop and I didn’t want the internal fan coming on and sucking in dust.

Since I started using it the laptop fan hasn’t come on once. I ordered another one for my second laptop. Tip: It works at its quietest if you have it on a flat surface, if you tilt it you may get a little fan clatter, but that will stop once you level it again.

When plugging it in I had a feeling it would not be powerful enough as there was not a lot of airflow coming from the fans. The first day it seemed to be doing an ok job but as the computer stayed on longer it was apparent that the fans were not blowing enough air to keep it cool.

I tried it for a couple of days but the computer kept heating up beyond the fan’s capacity to cool it. This is disappointing because I liked the way it looked and how it sat under the computer. Still looking.

This laptop cooling pad has 2 large fans and is super quiet. The size is good for most laptops and it has some blue lights that can be turned on or off. Overall, it does a great job and the price is very reasonable.

I recommend it!.

*UPDATE* I have had this product for a year now and it has held up very well. and much better than I expected. Which is the reason for this update. I had given it 3 stars and questioned the quality of the product and the USB cord which is thin and looks cheap.

I am happy to say I was wrong. This has held up very well over a year and still runs well. I really thought the cord would be the reason for a quick death for this laptop cooling pad but it has held up extremely well.

Even though I have had it plugged in to my laptop on a desk and only picked up the laptop (forgetting the pad was attached) and ended up yanking hard on the cooling pad, causing it to lift up and then bump down onto the desk when I realize my mistake.

I’m not proud to say I’ve done this too many times to count. But it has proved me wrong because the cord is still strong, not frayed or weakened. I updated this to 4 starts and not 5 because of one of the original reasons I had concerns about this item, which I have left below.

But after using this for a year I can say I barely notice the noise anymore, but it is still there if I try to listen to it. Fans make a rattling or vibrating noise. It is pretty faint but loud enough to annoy you once you hear it.

The overall look of it is nice and the bluelights inside the red frame looks great.

The noise from the cooler was low on the initial use, the typing position is good if a bit too raised up. This is not a super-stable platform for typing: the mesh flexes with pressure. The cooler looks reasonably attractive (I like red color).

Unfortunately, it seems it is meant for occasional duty only – i shared this one with a colleague of mine in the office and my guess is that ~14 hours daily for 6 days a week for a month overtaxed the bearings and the fan developed a rattle.

And unfortunately that happened after the 1-month return period.

Definite improvement on the connection to the computer to avoid bending the cord and breaking, which is what happened to my last cooling laptop holder. However, this one has some unfinished metal ends that catch on clothing and furniture.

This is a good cool pad for the money. The large fan provides plenty of cooling for my laptop. Since the fan is so powerful, I find it is somewhat loud and therefore only plug it in when my laptop fan accelerates, thus indicating it is getting hot.

After the pad fan turns on, it only takes a few minutes for the laptop fan to turn off. Keep in mind that I use massive graphics for multiple charts for trading, so my laptop uses much RAM. This cool pad does a nice job of keeping things cool.

I like the USB plug that allows piggy-backing, thus not using up a plug slot on my laptop.

I bought this because my Alienware R4 M15 laptop heated up quickly when playing games. This cooling pad helped with the heating. Although it is not as fast as I thought, it stills does it jobs and it’s more quiet than I expected.

Also, USB plugs to charge other products.

I bought this for my wife’s Razer Blade Stealth as she was having thermal issues when playing more demanding games. I saw about a ~5 degree reduction in cpu and gpu temps so it definitely did something.

if you have a laptop tha just needs a little bit of extra cooling, this might be just the thing you need.

This does the job well and is very well made and comfortable on my lap. The bottom is cloth, not hard metal. There are two little feet that lift the back of the computer slightly off the cooling pad, allowing for more air flow.

It turns itself off when the computer goes to sleep and back on when the computer wakes up; some cooling fans don’t do this. It’s very quiet and seems to be very well made. Since I use it on my lap, I haven’t tried the mechanisms (plural) for changing the height.

One is a pair of legs. The other is a separate piece that turns into a riser.

Im very, very pleased with this cooking stand. I love that its multifunctional, holdikg both my laptop and my tablet, at the same time no less! It really does keep my laptop cool, and since Im an avid gamer Im on my computer for several hours at a time! Now I dont have to worry about breaking my heatsink and ruining my laptop! Im also extremely pleased with the multiple height settings on it! I find it very useful depending on what Im doing! My HP ZBook was running so hot that it would blue screen every couple of days with different errors. Before the BSOD, the fan would be going as fast as it could and it would be too hot to touch much less put on your lap.

I had to keep it on a cup or something where there was as little touching it as possible. I got the OPOLAR laptop cooler without thinking it would be able to help much. It is small and I didn’t see how just sucking air out of the side would be that effective.

But, wow what a difference! You place it over the side air vent in the laptop, and plug it into any USB port (even a charger port or outlet USB not on the computer). As soon as I plugged it in it was showing the temperature of the air coming out.

Once the laptop ramped up on the memory and the fan sped up, the OPOLAR went into overdrive and brought the temperature back down. It just sits there and does that as needed to keep the temperature below 100 (starts really speeding up at 90-95) The most unbelievable thing is I have not had a blue screen since I started using this!!! It’s like medicine for a laptop – made it all better.

After noticing that both a laptop and Nintendo switch were heating more than usual after a few hours of gaming I started to worry about the logivity life of both devices. After taking some time to setup, (set and make sure it will stay in place).

The cool does its job. Confirming that it does prevent the laptop from heating up to much, the temperature dropped at least 10, and stayed cooler to the touch. A similar results with the switch, noticing at least 8 degrees cooler, the system don’t feel barely warm, and this is an improvement since it has a bad or almost no ventilation by itself once inside the base.

So I decided to buy a second cooler (1 for each device). After making sure it would do the job. The fan noise is barely noticeable at 10 speed, usually the game sounds will block any of the fan noise.

So I’m happy and hopping each device will have a longer life span.

My laptop used to shutdown all the time, due to overheating. This was very frequent especially when playing games, or having a lot of tabs open browsing videos. This fan is a bit fidgety to set up, as you have to place it on the exhaust fan of the laptop.

I used the permanent method of setup, i. e. an adhesive layer is stuck to the bottom of the laptop, and then the fan is fits in to the adhesive layer, whilst covering the exhaust fan. With regards to the results, my laptop has not shutdown from overheating since this fan has been attached.

It completely cools down the laptop effectively. I have to say though, I leave the fan on max setting rather than automatic. The downside is it is slightly noisy, but I believe that the pros overweigh the cons heavily.

Well worth the money and better than the standard cooling pads which use the conventional method of blowing cool air in to the intake fans.

I bought one for a friend because his Onn cooling pad stopped working and I was hoping to get something better. The item arrived very quickly but the quality is poor. First of all, the two fans don’t blow as much air as they should and blow less than the one big fan on the cooling pad he had.

Secondly, if I move the laptop, while the cooling pad is on, the bottom of the frame touches one of the fans scraping up against it. If it is stationary and I press the bottom of the case the fan will scrape against it.

It is not a good product. I’m glad I didn’t buy this for myself and am done with bargain basement cooling pads. When I get one for myself I’m going to spend more and get a Havit, Kootek, Tecknet or Cooler Master which have been tested and reviewed on unbiased websites.

Either that or a USB Fan Air Extractor which may cool the working parts of the laptop better. If you buy a laptop cooling pad do yourself a favor, spend a little more money and buy something better.

The plastic base. If using this laptop cooler on your lap, the plastic base WILL crack. You’ll also have to use two hands to pick it up. If using one hand, your finger(s) will crack the plastic. I don’t understand why they put metal on the top and plastic on the bottom.

Would be fine if they had reversed that. Would have been absolutely perfect with a metal base AND metal top. But maybe that’s just wishful thinking, as I can’t seem to find one like that. This one only lasted three days.

Quiet fans. My huge laptop fits well and stays cool. No slippage, small footprint. Used it last night for four hours without any problem. Laptop used to die within 10 minutes. Very pleased.

Whisper quiet and the size fits the needs of my 15. 6 inch laptop great. Solid product, although I dont plan to test out its toughness factor. I guess if I was going to change one thin I would make the black plastic that is viewable on the sides a matt black instead of its more light reflective black.

Also I’ll say that laptop is very stable on top of the unit.

I was torn about how many stars to give this product. When it works it’s excellent. But it only works about 3/4 of the time. I tried to register this when it arrived, in case I had any issues. The link for that wouldn’t work.

I emailed the company who weren’t helpful.

This ‘cooling pad’ is perfect. It’s very quiet and as so, i sometimes have to double-check to see if it’s even on. I removed the ridiculous bumper thing in the front as it makes my G7 (17. 3″) NOT fit properly.

When playing games, my cooling system hardly EVER turns on because the cooling pad is so effective that it doesn’t exceed the minimum laptop. They aren’t games like CoD, but are equally demanding at times.

Good stuff, very sturdy and fits my G7 17. 3″ w/out the bumper on. Would totally buy again, and will most likely do so for another laptop.

What I received in the mail looks absolutely nothing like what I had ordered online. It is very small and makes my 17″ laptop seem very unstable when I use it upright. It was not silver, it was back.

It has on. y one fan, unlike the picture showing 2. I could go on, but I can’t imagine anyone wanting to buy this flimsy plastic, probably easy to break product. Please look for a better monitor cooler.

I didn’t know what to expect when I first saw this product but I’m really glad I got it. Since the pandemic I’m finding myself working on my computer while lying in bed sometimes (I know this is NOT ideal) and when I did this my laptop would get the covers so warm I got nervous I was burning up my computer.

This product really does what it claims. I use it practically every time I use my laptop. The height it lifts the computer is about an inch or so and is a better height and angle for typing if you leave the back flap open.

The cool down fans work well without being obnoxiously noisy. They really did a great job with the design too. Like I said the back Has a flap on it that covers a little storage compartment for the wire that will plug into your computer.

This is extremely convenient if you want to tuck it away and not have wires everywhere. It also has nonslip rubber padding on the top so that your laptop stays perfectly in place. I’m really enjoying this product and would recommend it to anyone who is like me and sometimes works while laying down and covered with a blanket.

WORKS WELL ENOUGH. If you just need something to put between you and your laptop, that has the ability to slightly aid in the cooling process, this will work. But if you buy it with the expectation that the “DUAL FANS” are actually going to cool your laptop while gaming, then don’t waste your money.

Shop around and pay a little more if that is your preference. Personally I had my expectations fairly reasonable. I knew this would not be a game changer in cooling, but I expected the fans to actually do some good.

The only thing this is good for at all is a small lap table to keep your lap from getting hot. It does absolutely no good at cooling the laptop itself. I honestly think it is making it hotter while gaming.

Since using this I have been noticing a lot more overheating than I ever had before. I have a midrange gaming setup with settings adjusted accordingly, the only thing that has changed is the addition of this “COOLING TABLE”.

Now that I decided to take that out and throw it (the cooling table that is) we will see if that is indeed true.

This works well enough to turn off the laptop fan. The fan is in the middle of the mat while my laptop has the 3 lines of grills on the top upper half. The mat fans hits 2 out of 3 grills but works so well to cool my laptop down.

I am very pleased with the bottom fabric of the mat which doesn’t slide off at all as well as the top four grips on the mat are useful but my laptop already has built in grips so the laptop doesn’t even touch the mat grips.

I love the kickstand which hides the built in cable since I do not have to worry too much about losing the cable and mixing it up with other cables I have. The cable reaches on both sides of my laptop so if you only have ports on one side this universal usb will work on both ends.

I will admit that the bottom felt with dent if you place something heavy on it. One big feature you will notice on the laptop mat is the dip where the dual fans are located. The airway will be dispersed even if your laptop is flat.

The fan noise it pretty low and quiet. Did I mention it is very comfortable on my lap or maybe on one leg? It works out great in my case.

If anyone understands laptop gaming you will understand they suffer from heat soak and slow cooling with temp around 66+ deg at idle and 90+ under load. My laptop is the top 1080p aero with a 10th gen i7, 2080super, 32gig of ram.

Using this cooler has reduced my system temps by at least 10 to 7 degrees. Fan speed ramping has stopped and graphics performance is up due to less thermal throttling. It feels well constructed with the only real down side being the annoying finger pressure activated on and off switch, it’s very lacking.

Double tap to turn off often finds me changing the colour scheme and having to cycle back through the 11 million schemes this thing has. I run my cooling pad from a powered usb hub so it stays on unless shut down manually, I would think people running it directly from the laptop wouldn’t have this issue but if you’re like me and only have 3 ports, this cooler takes up two and only provides you one in return as through put.

Light switching issues aside, it’s a great cooler and would definitely recommend if your laptop have big underside vents like mine, if you have a laptop without this design, you will not benefit from this cooler at all.

This DeepCool Pad is great for Laptops & is the 2nd one I have bought recently, I’m now overseas and have had 1 delivered to where I’m staying, so that I had one for my gaming machine over here, I have a ALIENWARE Laptop and this cooling pad is great in several aspects, the cooling fans do a great job of keeping my system cool and my 15′ machine fits nicely on the pad with reasonable overhang underneath.

The fans are relatively quite, actually I don’t notice them to be honest, I don’t believe that your going to get a pad system like this without some noise, unless you have Lots of $$$ My laptop never leaves this pad actually, yes I carry both units around together, the pad is a great size for sitting on your knees and the multi cords supplied with it, are a great set up, giving you the option of plugging the pad into an independent USB power source, separate from the main USB power lead into the back of your laptop and pad.

Value for money, I feel this is a great option for daily use, as I have had no issues with it so far and it works well for my general and gaming usage.

Yes the LED evolution continues – however this device really has practical cooling advantage with 2 x 140mm fans that are almost silent. I was impressed with the performance of this cooler as compared to comparative models, cooling down my laptop at least 30% with mediocre workloads.

Tested during burn-in benchmarking where normally my lappy would get right up to 80 deg. this cooler brought that down to high 50’s or less comparatively. Very happy with the results and as a bonus you get some flashy lights to boot.

I have been doing some light photo and video editing with my Alienware laptop. I have been hearing the fan kick on and run furiously. I was casually glancing at items like this when I was at Micro Center for something else and low and behold the ever on the spot Micro Center Dude stopped by for a chat and showed me this one, for $20 how could I go wrong.

When I plug everything in and it turns on it seems a little loud, but it fades from consciousness fast. It is not nearly as loud as my computers cooling fan when it kicks on. With my big old Alienware 17 sitting on this with the fan running all the time the computers fan rarely turns on, even though I am getting deeper in to editing and using 2 and 4 k monitors and multiple programs at the same time.

Seems like cheep insurance to protect my equipment from over heating.

Bought two of these for my girlfriend’s and I’s laptop to cool our Lenovo T490 laptops. I’ll be blunt and say if your looking for something as quiet as a Noctua desktop fan, your never going to find that in a laptop cooler.

However, these are the quietest so far with an acceptable noise level that you would hear maybe walking down an aisle at the office. Definitely not a distraction. I have noticed that it kept our laptops cool by a few degrees.

Only downside besides the “noise” is that there are no stoppers or anything to secure the laptop in place. I’d recommend to use this on a desk solely and not on your lap.

item was not expensive but i see why; its just one big fan thats not too powerful and its cheap plastic with a mesh wire enclosure for the fan blade; the lights are cool; but if you’re looking for something to actually COLL YOUR LAPTOP DOWN; this isnt it; more of a show piece with a little bit if cooling-.

/also- dust collects WAY too fast in this thing; save yourself $20 and just open the window or aim a house fan at your PC- would work better just with less lights!.

I’ve looked into a lot of laptop pads and this is the only one I could find that fits my needs and doesn’t look cheap. I wanted a pad that was adjustable to where I could have my laptop’s screen at eye level with my monitor at work and this works perfectly for that, I’m able to raise it up as a high enough angle to achieve that and I’m not much more comfortable throughout the day without having to constantly look down at the screen.

My laptop is plugged in and sitting on the desk 24/7, so this works great as a permanent solution. I don’t really have any overheating problems with the laptop, so I can’t really comment on the effectiveness of the fans as I don’t use them, but they are definitely quiet enough to use in an office environment.

Overall, I am very satisfied this this product and would buy another if I ever need it.
