There are a few different types of circular saws available on the market, so it is important to know which one is best for your project and your skill level. For beginners, we recommend starting with a corded circular saw.
Corded saws are more powerful and will give you more control over your cuts. They are also more affordable than their cordless counterparts.
When using a corded circular saw, be sure to use the correct blade for the material you are cutting. For example, if you are cutting through wood, use a blade with fewer teeth so it doesn’t get bogged down.
Likewise, if you are cutting through metal, use a blade with more teeth to get a clean, precise cut.
Most corded circular saws come with a rip fence, which is a guide that helps you make straight, precise cuts. Be sure to clamp the rip fence to your workpiece before making your cut.
If you are making a long cut, use a piece of scrap wood to support the end of your workpiece so it doesn’t sag in the middle. This will give you a cleaner, more precise cut.
When you are finished making your cuts, unplug the saw and let the blade come to a complete stop before removing the rip fence and clearing your work area.

Reviews From Real Customers
I’ve owned this saw for a year now. Let me start out by saying I love the power of the saw. As far as portable table saws go, it can’t be beaten. It’ll take a damp 2×6 cedar and rip it without bogging down at all.
Can’t complain about that. However, and this is a BIG however, the “Stay-true” fence is an awful design. It is NOT true. I have to check both sides and adjust accordingly before clamping it in place, it’s really no better than me putting a straight edge with two clamps across the table.
That kind of a thing wastes a lot of time on a project and is very frustrating. I like that it’s removable and stores under the saw. Another bother with it though is that if you are doing angled cuts on both sides of a board, the fence sticks up off the table just enough that there is a tendency for the board to slide under the fence and ruin your cut.
I did that twice before I realized what was happening. The guard and pawls that come with the saw are adequate and they do what they’re supposed to do. They are a little hard to get on and off but once you figure out how they work, it’s not so bad.
The height and angle adjustments are nice and quick to use. I do find that the saw makes an almost mild grinding sound when running in an angled position, does not hurt performance though. All in all my real complaints with this saw are all to do with the fence.
Rack and pinion is the way to go. If you were to buy an aftermarket fence system then this saw is a real performer. It works hard just like the wormdrive circular saws.

I was torn about this saw because I actually DO like fixing things that are already broken when they are boxed for shipping. I almost gave this saw 5 stars for entertainment value. For an old guy who wants to spend the morning out in his shop, it’s a beauty.
Here’s what you get and what you do: The blade rubs against the blade guard, shooting sparks when you turn it on. Start by putting a metal cutting blade in, then run it until you get less sparks, then take some pliers and bend the guard away from the blade.
This will push the blade guard lever into the saw housing when you rotate the blade guard, so just cut the blade guard in half and smooth it with a file. You are now ready to discover that the blade is aligned 3/16” to the right of the guide mark on the frame, and much further from the touted laser guide.
Get a file or hacksaw and make a notch on the frame in line with the blade. You are now ready to cut wood, and you got to out-wit some Chinese executives who were using what they call ‘quality fade’, a regular feature of Chinese manufacturing.

I have been wanting a smaller battery operated circular saw. I did my research and it came down to this and one other. What ultimately decided it for me was that I needed to replace most of my battery operated to tools.
I loved my old set -but after 20 plus years of lots of use – the collets weren’t working and it was time for new batteries. My hands are not as strong as they used to be – so size – weight and battery removal is really important.
I couldn’t pinch my fingers together hard enough to get the batteries off my old kit. Time and time again I found myself in a spot where my project was not portable – and my 5 1/2” circular saw was not able to get into tighter spaces.
I love this 4 1/2” saw. The battery slides on and off with one locking button. The design is slender enough to get into most spaces. Powerful! I purchased more dewalt tools and varying batteries. Quality feel!.
The good. great purpose type saw. Low rpm keeps dust and noise to a minimum. Vaccum port enables use right in the room you’re working. With a proper blade you can cut cement/hardi board with ease. Hook it up to a vacuum and cut it right at the tub/bathroom and keep on working.
On the 20v XR platform which is absolutely the best battery in the business. *****The bad. ***** DeWALT LISTEN up!!!!! You put these great saws in ACE, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. But the blade selection is terrible.
The 3/8″ arbor is no big deal as you can use 10mm blades as well but regardless the box stores basically offer the 24 tooth blade for lumber. This saw will cut lumber but it’s real shining use is on other material like cement/hardieboard, tile, etc.
The problem. bad selection of blades. Example. nobody stocks DWA412PCD. The 4 tooth hardboard blade. Nobody has it in stock. Silly!!!.
As an installer of furniture in NYC, I often times have to modify surfaces to accommodate end users. Traveling in the city with tools is always a burden, so when I saw this saw I thought it would be easier to carry around then my usual 6.
5″. So I bought it. I love this thing. Today I made a “rip” cut on a file bank top to have top the same depth as the files cabinets. I cut through 6 feet of 1. 5″ veneered particle board. I had a 4ah battery on the saw.
Not once did the saw stall or bind. The cut was clean and smooth and with the included detachable adjustable fence, set up for the cut was a breeze. I love this saw. It is now my favorite. My Milwaukee will be put away.
I wish the saw was shorter 17″ is long and had to fit in my work bag.

My “Tool Man” neighbor has a battery-powered skill saw, and together we used it to cut 2X4’s and plywood to repair our roofs after Hurricane Ida knocked us off the power grid for 19 consecutive days, and our generators were dedicated to powering house lights, refrigerators, freezers and room A/C units.
Since I’d already invested in the Bauer line of 20V drills, and had the batterys and chargers already, I got this saw as soon as the local stores re-opened. The kerf blade cuts true and effortlessly, the saw is light and a joy to use; should have bought one before now.
Followed the review posts’ suggestion and bought the 5 Ah battery, too. One caution: his tool has left-handed threads on some of its nuts and bolts – the saw’s blade fastener is the first one you’ll see.
(Hint: Look for the Direction arrows cast into the housing. ) I have two sons who work in Construction, and both tell me that they use battery-powered saws and drills on all their jobsites anymore; and they can carry a smaller gas generator to work because all it does is power their bank of battery chargers.
Cuts down on the need of long extension cords, too.
I recently sold my flatbed trailer, and I knew the plywood I needed wasn’t going to fit in the back of my van as a whole sheet. I grabbed a couple of my 5 amp batteries and headed to harbor freight before swinging by Home Depot.
I picked up this saw only to discover the (1) one, yes only ONE option for blades is a 24T. I was hoping for something more fine since I was picking up a finish piece, but sadly, harbor freight offers only the one blade.
The saw itself is very light weight, I think the battery weighs more than the saw does, and it’s surprisingly quiet. In fact, when I first powered it up I giggled and said “HA! This’ll go well!” But as I started ripping through the 3/4” plywood it had no issues whatsoever, and it did it quietly.
I’m old, I’m old school, I’ve used circular saws for 36+ years, they are loud and angry, and create a symphony of noises as you cut through would, that’s just what they do, but this saw does it with grace.
I made the cuts necessary to fit the wood in the back of my van then went home. At home I decided to use the saw to make several other cuts, just to see how long the battery would last. After I was finished cutting, I pressed the little button on the battery and saw I still had 2 of the blue lights left, so it was ready for more.
As an old school former mechanic/former contractor, I had reservations about the saw, but it’s proven itself worthy of my tool bin. I own acreage off the grid, I’ve taken my harbor freight generator up and used my power tools to do my building, but if I can’t carry my generator and power tools, like a Home Depot parking lot for example, this puppy is coming with me.
I recommend the saw, but if you need more than the one 24T blade option, hit up eBay or Amazon until harbor freight can produce more blade options. It’s a 6 1/2” blade so don’t think you’re going to get through a telephone pole, but for general, quick, portable light cuts, this is my go to.
Pros: •great for portability •great price •decent power for its size •light weight •quiet •relatively battery life friendly Cons: •limited blade options •doesn’t come in a kit option with battery/charger.
This thing works great especially for the price. Iv had this a little while, have not used my plug in saw for a good while. This thing is light weight, doing trim work, even ripped a few boards with it, and no cord getting in the way.
I’m not sure for a commercial contractor use, But for a homeowner, or doing jobs around the house this is great and I’d say get it. My only issue with this brand, battery and charger does not come with it.
Bauer used to sell drills as a kit and stopped. That’s the only downfall. Charger and battery have to be bought separate. I was lucky I already had a charger and upgraded batteries.
The bottom line is that a circular saw is a versatile and powerful tool that can be used for a variety of tasks. If you are a beginner, it is important to choose the right saw for the job and to learn how to use it safely.
With a little practice, you will be able to cut through wood, metal, and other materials with ease.
