A Christmas novel is a work of fiction in which the Christmas holiday plays a significant role in the plot. Christmas novels have been written for both children and adults, and they often include themes of love, family, hope, and redemption.
While some Christmas novels are light and festive, others are more introspective and deal with the darker aspects of the holiday season.

In a plot reminiscent of Penelope Stokes’s The Blue Bottle Club and Angela Hunt’s The Note, a journalist happens upon a human interest story that winds up teaching her lessons about love and forgiveness and renewing her own faith in human kindness.
On Christmas Eve, twenty-something Hope Jensen is quietly grieving the recent loss of her adoptive mother when her apartment is robbed. The one bright spot in the midst of Hope’s despair is a small jar full of money someone has anonymously left on her doorstep.
Eager to learn the source of this unexpected generosity, Hope uses her newswoman instincts to find other recipients of “Christmas jars,” digging until her search leads her to the family who first began the tradition of saving a year’s worth of spare change to give to someone in need at the holiday.
Wright commits some rookie mistakes in style and pacing; the novel veers heavily toward melodrama at some junctures, and he tends to show us and tell us about his characters. Still, the heart of this novella is its transformative message about the power of giving, a compelling theme that calls to mind books like Pay It Forward and The Kingdom Assignment.

Watch a touching story. This book will pull at your heart strings from the very first page. The whole idea behind the Christmas jars was so touching and thought provoking. After reading this book you will want to start your own Christmas jar.
Hope was such a determined person from the time she was little and knew what she wanted. Then along the way she kind of got served a piece of humble pie. Don’t get me wrong she was a good person all the way to the end of the book but in her own mind she did something wrong.
You will find a lump in your throat as I did while reading this. I just found out there is a sequel to this book which I have to have. This is the second book I have read by this author and he does a great job of making you really stop and think while enjoying a touching story.
Wonderful and precious Christmas related book that reflects on the life of a young woman and her struggles to maintain a career and creative livelihood after the loss of her adoptive mother. Her journalistic endeavors include finding Christmas Jar recipients and relating their stories.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER – A special holiday wish list brings about hope, love, and second chances in this nostalgic novel from the queen of Christmas stories, Debbie Macomber. Lindy Carmichael isn’t feeling particularly joyful when she returns home to Wenatchee, Washington, for Christmas.
The man she thought was “the one” has cheated on her with her best friend, and she feels completely devoid of creativity in her graphic-design job. Not even carolers or Christmas cookies can cheer her up—but Lindy’s mother, Ellen, remembers an old tradition that might lift her daughter’s spirits.
Reading through a box of childhood letters to Santa and reminiscing about what she’d wished for as a young girl may be just the inspiration Lindy needs. With Ellen’s encouragement, she decides to write a new letter to Santa, one that will encourage her to have faith and believe just as she’d done all those years ago.
Little does Lindy know that this exercise in gratitude will cause her wishes to unfold before her in miraculous ways. And, thanks to some fateful twists of Christmas magic—especially an unexpected connection with a handsome former classmate—Lindy ultimately realizes that there is truly no place like home for the holidays.
In Dear Santa, Debbie Macomber celebrates the joys of Christmas blessings, old and new.

After Lindy returns to her hometown for Christmas, unexpected things start to happen when she reads a collection of letters she wrote to Santa as a child. First, she writes a new Dear Santa letter to help her heal her broken heart.
As she connects with an old friend and an old foe, the Christmas magic opens her heart to new possibilities and a new purpose for her life plan. A renewed friendship helps fill the void after a betrayal, and a new love interest proves she has more to give.
Lindy has a life in another town, but opportunities in her hometown seem to be dropping at her feet. Will a nudge from Santa help her make her choice of going back to her old life or starting a new one? This heartwarming book has all the feels of hot chocolate and sugar cookies on Christmas Eve.
**received an ARC from netgalley**.
Debbie Macomber writes the best Christmas stories. Dear Santa does not disappoint. It brings Christmases of past and combines them with Christmas Present. Lindy Carmichael isn’t feeling especially festive this year.
Her “one” turned out not to be. However, bringing back an old tradition may just be what Santa ordered. A trip back to her roots brings Lindy some relief. Will she be able to move on from deception? Will the small spark turn into more? Grab your cocoa and curl up with this wonderful story set during the wonderful time of the year.
I received a copy through Netgalley. A review was not required.
After heartache of losing her best friend and boyfriend because they decided to date, Lindy decides to head home for Christmas for two weeks for a much needed break. Lindy’s mother presented her with all of her old Santa letters she wrote as a child and insisted on her reading them as she thought it would help her heal from the heartache she had been through.
Her mother also insisted that she write a letter to Santa as Santa has made her requests come true thus far. Will Lindy find comfort in the letters like her mother is insisting they will bring? Will Lindy take her mother’s advice and write the Santa letter or will she think it’s so ridiculous that she will refuse to write it? This heartwarming book about self discovery, love and second chances will have you turning the pages to find out.
I loved how Debbie Macomber got her inspiration for this book from an aspiring author, age 12, who knew she wanted to become an author when she started writing letters to Santa. A fun light read to kick off your holiday reading! A great pick for book clubs as well!.

A Mrs. Miracle Christmas:by Debbie Macomber Mrs. Miracle shows an ordinary family that they are blessed beyond belief in this uplifting holiday tale from #1 New York Times bestselling author Debbie Macomber.
As the holiday season begins, Laurel McCullough could use some good news. She and her husband, Zach, have been praying for a baby that seems more and more like an impossible dream, and they’ve had to move in with her beloved grandmother, Helen, who’s having trouble taking care of herself.
But when Laurel contacts a local home-care organization for help, there are no caregivers available. Then Mrs. Miracle appears at the door. No stranger to lending a helping hand to a family in need, Mrs.
Miracle reveals herself to be nothing short of a godsend. Helen’s even convinced she’s an angel! And Laurel can’t help but notice that with Mrs. Miracle’s companionship, Helen is noticeably happier and more engaged, decorating the family Christmas tree and setting up the nativity.
In the meantime, Laurel and Zach encounter curious signs, all pointing toward the arrival of a special baby. As Christmas approaches, there appears to be even more to Mrs. Miracle than meets the eye.
In a classic tale of Debbie Macomber’s signature seasonal magic, Laurel, Zach, and Helen experience a holiday of heavenly proportions. This is Laurel McCullough her husband, Zach’s story. This is Laurel beloved grandmother, Helen’s story.
Laurel McCullough arrived home to find two police cruisers parked in the driveway with their lights flashing. If that wasn’t enough to get her heart racing, it was seeing her grandmother on the front porch, clearly distressed, wringing her hands and looking around anxiously.
Laurel slammed her vehicle into park and leaped out of her car, nearly stumbling in her eagerness to find out what had happened. “Nana,” she cried, rushing toward her grandmother. Laurel’s brain raced with how best to deal with this latest situation.
Last week, her grandmother had lost her way in the neighborhood, the very one she’d lived in for more than fifty years. Nana had gone out to collect the mail and noticed that the neighbor’s new puppy, Browser, had escaped his yard.
She’d followed him to try to bring him back and hadn’t been able to find her way home. Eventually, the neighbor had found the puppy, along with Helen, and had brought Laurel’s visibly upset grandmother back home with her.
Nana looked pale and frightened. “The doctor said that would happen, didn’t he? Me getting more and more confused? Wasn’t it only last week when I got lost? Laurel nodded. The dementia had become significantly worse over the last several months.
It was at the point that she didn’t feel comfortable leaving her grandmother alone. But what choice did she have? Their financial resources were tight. All she could do was pray that she and Zach, her husband, could come up with a way to manage these new issues that Nana was having.
I highly recommend reading. A Mrs. Miracle Christmas:by Debbie Macomber is a wonderful well written 5 star book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. ” more books by Debbie Macomber.

Mrs. Miracle is a Christmas tradition and I was thrilled to get to read this beautiful, miraculous story! ‘It was the season, after all, and this year, for sure. The season of miracles. ‘ Disappointment after disappointment in conceiving or adopting a child has left Laurel with a lack of faith.
She’s resigned herself to being childless and thought her husband, Zach, had done the same. With the diminishing health of her Nana also weighing her down, they are thrilled when Mrs. Miracle arrives to help with Nana’s daily care.
But when Laurel realizes that Zach hasn’t completely let go of the longing for a child, their marriage ends up on shaky ground. This was such a heartwarming story. I loved each and every one of these characters as they struggle with their own heart aches, losses, and longings.
Laurel was living a life not quite complete and unable to totally let go of the heartache past disappointments had hurled at her. Zach only wanted his wife to find complete happiness in all things and went to extraordinary lengths to make it so.
Nana, suffering from dementia, often lost herself in past memories as well as those of her husband who had died years before. And Mrs. Miracle was hope and joy in every word and action. With so much heartache, this is a rather angsty read, but at the heart of it all is hope and love.
Despite this being a relatively fast read, this was such a richly developed story in both characterization and plotline. Of course, we know that there’s going to be a happy ever after, but the getting there was often painful.
Even with all that angst, there is plenty of humor and smiles as well as a deep romance that survives the darkest of days. As always, Mrs. Miracle brings the pure undiluted joy of the holiday season to those around her as well as readers and I loved every moment of the beautiful Christmas story.
A Mrs. Miracle Christmas by Debbie Macomber is touching Christmas story. I began reading it and did not stop until I finished. A Mrs. Miracle Christmas has Debbie Macomber’s delightful writing which drew me right in.
Her characters are developed, and the story moved along at a steady pace. Mrs. Miracle is sent by Gabriel to help Helen, Laurel and Zach. Helen has been praying for her granddaughter who has lost faith as well as hope after failed IVF treatments and an unsuccessful adoption.
Zach still has hope, but he is not the praying type. Helen, Laurel’s grandmother, has dementia and her life has shrunk to the point where she sits in a chair trying to knit and watching television. With Mrs.
Miracle taking care of Helen, her life expands. Helen finds new activities and new friends with her favorite being the kindly Mrs. Miracle. I thought Laurel and Zach’s struggles were realistic. I could feel their turmoil and sadness.
There are some bright moments for the couple along with angelic guidance. There were humorous scenes that had me laughing out loud. I especially enjoyed Mrs. Miracle mentioning her friends, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy.
Mrs. Miracle enlists their assistance for a job or two. I like the inclusion of this segment of the Twenty-Third Psalm, “Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. ” We see how important it is to never lose hope or faith.
God does listen to our prayers and He answers them in His own way and when He feels it is time. We need to remember that patience is a virtue (like Mrs. Miracle, I struggle with this one). It also tells us that we should be grateful for what we do have instead of what we do not have.
I am guilty of this as well. A Mrs. Miracle Christmas is a heartwarming Christmas tale that will lift your spirits and touch your heart. I was happy for the epilogue that beautifully wrapped up this touching tale.
A Mrs. Miracle Christmas is an uplifting story with heavenly help, grandmotherly guidance, holiday happenings, a spirited Christmas Eve service and the mysterious Mrs. Miracle.

Donna VanLiere’s The Christmas Secret is a novel for anyone who wants to see how love is a gift that keeps giving back; that hope is a treasure that never runs dry, and that faith is a miracle that is reborn with each new day.
The Christmas Secret is now a Hallmark Movies & Mysteries original film. Watch it this holiday season! When a struggling young single mother saves the life of an elderly woman, she sets into motion a series of events that will test her strength, loyalty, and determination, all the while setting her on the path to finding true love.
Christine Eisley is the mother of seven-year-old Zach and five-year-old Haley. Her ex-husband provides little, if any, child support and makes life difficult for Christine by using the children as pawns.
She works long hours as a waitress to make ends meet, but her job is in jeopardy because she’s often late to work due to the unreliable teenage sitters she’s forced to use. When Christine saves the life of a woman who works in Wilson’s department store, the owner of Wilson’s wants to find her, to thank her, but Christine has disappeared, losing another job once again.
He sets his grandson, Jason, to the task of finding the mysterious “Christy. ” Jason, an accountant by trade who has lost his job to downsizing, thinks he is “above” working at Wilson’s. Soon, he discovers that this new task gives him more than he bargains for.
Reviews From Real Customers
The Christmas Secret by Wanda E. Brunstetter is set in Allentown, Pennsylvania in November of 1880. Elizabeth Canning is getting ready to marry David Stinner on Christmas Eve (which is also Elizabeth’s birthday).
They will be living in a cabin built by Elizabeth’s grandfather and it is very special to Elizabeth. While cleaning out the cabin, Elizabeth finds a journal written by her Aunt Lovina (she grew up in the cabin along with Elizabeth’s mother).
The first entry dates back to Lovina’s sixteenth birthday. Elizabeth starts reading the journal and discovers a startling secret that will ruin her life and affect others. Elizabeth only tells the devastating secret to her friend, Helen.
Elizabeth calls off the wedding and quickly leaves town to stay with her grandparents. David does not understand why Elizabeth called off their wedding. David sets out to find Elizabeth and get answers.
Will David and Elizabeth be able to overcome the obstacle thrown in their path? You will have to read The Christmas Secret to see if David and Elizabeth make it to the alter on Christmas Eve. The Christmas Secret is a sweet short story (it is a novella not a full-length book).
It is nicely written and easy to read (good flow). It can easily be finished in an hour. I did, though, find it predictable and reminiscent of something I have read previously. Once the secret was revealed I knew what would happen.
It is really not a Christmas story. It is set during Christmas, but it is a historical romance novella. It is a nice story, but I just expected more from this author. I give The Christmas Secret 3. 5 out of 5 stars.
It has nice messages about the power of love, prayer, faith, and forgiveness.
Elizabeth Canning and David Stinner planned a Christmas Eve wedding, Elizabeth’s birthday, in the cabin where her maternal grandparents had started their married live together and her parents after them.
She was so excited to be starting her married life there as well. While cleaning the cabin, Elizabeth came across a journal that had belonged to her Aunt. As she read, she discovered some news that turned her world upside down.
There was no way she could marry David now. What could she have read in that journal? Elizabeth decided that she had to find her Aunt and find out the truth. She confided in her best friend Helen and made her promise to keep the secret.
Did Elizabeth find her Aunt? What happened to Elizabeth and David? Read this well written book by Wanda Brunstetter to find out.
This story revolves around a soon to be Christmas wedding of Elizabeth Canning to David Steiner, and is a very quick read. The story is set in the 1880, and to make the wedding special, Elizabeth wants to be wed in her Grandparents cabin, the home her mother and father also used when they were married.
While cleaning she discovers her mother’s sister’s diary, and while reading it, her life is changed forever. While the story held my attention, I felt like I was reading something I had read before. It was predictable and I felt I knew the ending almost from the beginning.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Barbour, and was not required to give a positive review.

“Wonderful…. A must read come holiday time. ”—Roanoke TimesNew York Times bestselling author Mary Kay Andrews’s rollicking Christmas tale featuring the beloved characters from Savannah Blues and Savannah Breeze, now with a new cover and additional holiday recipes!’ Her motif is Graceland Blue Christmas, with lots of tinsel, an aluminum tree, and enough tacky retro doodads to fill the Grand Ole Opry.
Perhaps even an engagement ring is in the offing from her chef boyfriend, though Daniel, usually moody around the yuletide, seems even more distant than ever. Throw in some seasonal eccentricities from Weezie’s decidedly odd family, a miraculous 1950s Christmas-tree pin, and a little help from the King (Elvis!) himself, and even Scrooge would have to agree there’s real magic in the Savannah air this Christmas.

Reviews From Real Customers
Melody Carlson’s A Christmas in the Alps is a wonderful novella that tells the romantic story of Simone and Kyle. It is one of those stories that will warm your heart because, after all, with their chance meeting on a flight that Simone dreaded, everything was destined to fall in place for their happy ever after.
However, that was not how it played out. Learning about her great grandmother’s amazing past was well worth the trip out of her comfort zone. Finding a new path for her own life was priceless. I enjoyed this story for the rich color within the fabric of these characters lives.
Simone’s family, like so many who lived through the rigors of World War II are inspiring. Had Simone stayed behind and bathed in her practical comfort zone she would have missed out on all of the rewards life had to offer her.
Every year I wait to read Melody Carlson’s latest Christmas story. A Christmas in the Alps is just one of those stories that make you glad you picked up a book and skipped a cookie cutter Christmas movie.
Novellas may be short but this one is long on heart!.
** Ill tell you what helps me most when Im anxious or afraid. Its prayer. I find that when I hand these troubles over to God, I start to relax. I trust him for the outcome, and Ive never been let down.
** Melody Carlson once again delivers a delightful holiday-themed novella with A Christmas in the Alps, a story about forgiveness, love and finding ones true treasure. When Simone Winthrop stumbles across a letter from her great-grandmother, also named Simone, encouraging her to return to the familys home in the French Alps to find a treasure the elder Simone left there, she hesitantly agrees to travel to France in search of her heritage and family roots.
Deathly afraid of flying, Simone is relieved when she finds herself next to a friendly seat companion a man named Kyle whos on a quest of his own to learn about clockmaking and find his own journey in life.
But when Simone finds herself not so warmly welcomed by her French familys matriarch, she begins to question herself, all while wondering if her path will ever cross again with Kyles. What follows is a sweet, romantic story filled with holiday cheer.
Carlson always does a great job of creating a world that feels warm and comfy, filling it with lovable characters who still are flawed and relatable. A Christmas in the Alps also contains a few good themes, like evaluating ones true treasures; finding forgiveness; overcoming secrets; and giving our troubles to God.
One disclaimer: there is alcohol use in this story. Five stars out of five. Revell provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.
A French Christmas! With the death of her grandmother, Simone has lost all her family. While cleaning out her grandmother’s house, an un-opened letter for her is found. It is a mysterious letter from her French great-grandmother, her namesake Simone, begging her to go to her French hometown, Avre, and find her treasure.
While Simone, wants to blow it off, her friend, Andrea, convinces her to go. She suggests Simone might find family there, or at least spend Christmas in an enchanting place. If the treasure exists, it is a bonus.
That is how Simone finds herself staying in a storybook setting at Christmastime, and discovering that she does, indeed, have family there. However, when she meets her great-aunt, the woman takes an instant dislike to her, and orders her out of her home.
Should Simone pack up and leave since she isn’t wanted? How can she find the treasure if the one person who could help hates her? Will her coincidental meeting with Kyle lead to something serious, or does he have any romantic feelings for her? This is a fun Christmas book, full of holiday fun, the wonders of a French Christmas, a little romance, and a mystery, too.
Reading this will put you in the holiday mood, and bring you Christmas cheer. This would make a fine gift for yourself, or someone you care about. I recommend this five-star book to everyone who likes Christmas, or wants to stir up the spirit of the season! Revell Books has provided Tickmenot with a complimentary copy of, A Christmas in the Alps, for the purpose of review.

Three Charming and Festive Holiday Novellas Spiced with Humor, Frontier Action, and Sweet RomanceIn this 3-in-1 novella collection, bestselling author Karen Witemeyer presents the new story “A Texas Christmas Carol,” in which a town’s wealthy, Scrooge-like bachelor finds his world invaded by a woman set on earning his donation for helping the local poor, and by the penetrating questions of three mysterious visitors.
It also includes, for the first time in print, “An Archer Family Christmas. ” When the Archer clan gathers for the Christmas holiday, an unexpected request for help leaves Cassandra Archer directly in the path of a dangerous outlaw.
Desperate to protect the woman he loves, Jim Archer races to the rescue, only to find that Cassie’s life is not the only one in peril. It will take a Christmas miracle–and the entire Archer clan–to keep a second Archer Christmas from ending in disaster.
In previously published “Gift of the Heart,” a widow and her young daughter move to Hope Springs for a fresh start. But with no money to secure a home, Ruth must convince a wealthy resort owner to accept her heirloom brooch as collateral.
Will the pin that brought love to three generations soften the heart of a wounded recluse and give Ruth a second chance at love as the holidays draw near? Sprinkled throughout the collection, you’ll find a hope-filled Christmas devotion, Witemeyer holiday recipes, and fun facts about nineteenth-century Christmas celebrations!.
Reviews From Real Customers
Under the Christmas Mistletoe is a heartwarming holiday trio of novellas from one of my favorite go-to authros, Karen Witemeyer. Of the three stories, my hands down favorite was “A Texas Christmas Carol.
” I found Witemeyer’s retelling of the beloved Dickens classic utterly charming. Her Scrooge-like hero, Evan Beazer, who is totally swoon-worthy, is no match for Felicity Wiggins, a woman determined to uncover the good man hidden behind Evan’s grumpy exterior.
I especially liked the spiritual emphasis Witemeyer gives the book by using three angels, rather than spirits, to make Evan take a critical look at his own heart. In the end he realizes that, “It’s not the size of the gift that pleases our Lord, but the heart that gives it.
” An Archer Family Christmas brings all those magnificent Archer brothers and their families together for this sweet Christmas story about love, courage, and sacrifice. The Archer’s never disappoint readers with their fierce loyalty and devotion for one another.
This action-packed novella centers around Jim and Cassie and the answer to their prayers-the unexpected gift of a baby shortly before the mother dies in childbirth-if they can keep the child’s outlaw father from stealing him back.
Fans of the Archer family series will love this novella, but it stands on its own just fine. In a Gift of the Heart, Witemeyer gives her holiday take on the Biblical story of Ruth and Naomi. Suffering from past hurts due to his birth defect, Beauregard (Bo) Azlin is sullen and withdrawn and convinced he’ll never find true love.
But all that changes when he meets Ruth’s seven-year-old spirited daughter, Naomi, who brings light, laughter, and even a sense of purpose, into no-nonsense Bo’s life, leaving both Bo and Ruth to discover that second chances are worth waiting for.
Oh, and one of the coolest things about the Under the Texas Mistletoe Collection are the Bonus Features: Why a Baby? A Christmas Devotional, American Christmas traditions of the 19th cent.
Under the Texas Mistletoe is a delightful treat for the Christmas season that warms the heart with romance and holiday cheer. Karen Witemeyer simply never disappoints, and this book is no exception! The first novella is an utterly creative and thoroughly enjoyable retelling of A Christmas Carol–set in Texas with a Scrooge-like character as the hero! I never thought someone could make a Scrooge character dashing and romantic, but I never should have doubted Karen Witemeyer.
Of course she achieved this with her unmatched storytelling style! The second novella is a heartwarming holiday tale of the Archer family that allows us a peek at the happy marriages of the four Archer brothers, and the subsequent family fun of Christmas with their children.
The story focuses on Jim and Cassie and their struggle to start a family, and how their prayers are answered with a Christmas miracle of an unexpected adoption. A swoon-worthy rescue scene with Jim and Cassie is the best part of this story, and the glimpse of how they love and fight for each other is precious.
This story was my absolute favorite, and any fan of the Archer clan that we met in Short-Straw Bride, Stealing the Preacher, and A Cowboy Unmatched simply cannot miss it! The third novella is a sweet and romantic story of a reclusive landlord Bo, who falls swiftly and completely in love with a sweet and sacrificing single mother who comes to town.
Ruth has surrendered a family heirloom to Bo as collateral for a loan to set up a new life for her and her daughter, but then she finds herself smitten with the landlord–who quickly becomes so much more.
This sweet love story featuring a spunky seven-year-old and the joy of the holidays is both hilarious and romantic! These three novellas—combined with a devotion, interesting historical insights, and some holiday recipes—make this collection perfect for readers as they head into the Christmas season, and I highly recommend it! I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher for review purposes, but my thoughts are my own.
I really did love it!.
Three great stories in one book – you get triple the reading pleasure 🙂 Each of the three stories spoke to me in different ways, for different reasons. “A Texas Christmas Carol” brought out the lover of classics in me.
The ode to Dicken’s famous story was subtle but so much fun. The play on the names of the three strangers was too clever, as well as the other nod to the classic characters – Evan Beezer, Timothy Little and Robert.
Everyone has a heart down deep, many are just well guarded due to prior hurts. I love Christian fiction because the faith and circumstances of the characters strengthen my own faith. I must say, however, that this is one of the rare works where some of the words in the book spoke to me in the same way that a sermon would.
I loved this passage – “. there’s a reason that God calls himself I Am and not I Was or I Will Be. Now is the only place where change happens. Regretting the past or fretty about the future might motivate you, but it doesn’t change you.
You must seize the moment you are standing in and make a commitment to be better, trusting that the I am is standing with you, lending you his power. ” Wow! As an adoptive mom, “An Archer Family Christmas” had all the warm fuzzies that make a great Christmas story.
I always love adoption stories because they are such a great reminder of how we are all adopted into His family by our Heavenly Father. I haven’t read the other Archer stories yet but will be finding them ASAP to know more of the backstory to this special family.
Finally, “Gift of the Heart” touched me because the main character is a man with a disability who feels that no one will ever love him because he is “damaged. ” As someone who is married to someone with a disability, it warms my heart to see the message this story gives that no one is too “damaged” to be loved for who they are.
Too many times the disabled are token characters or sidekicks in stories, or simply aren’t even included. I loved how Witemeyer showed how speci.

Christmas at Carnton by Tamara Alexander is a Christmas novella following in the vein of her previous Southern Plantation type of novels. I haven’t read too many so I did not recognize specific characters, so I don’t know if there are any tie-ins to other series.
Either way, it worked well as a stand alone! Christmas at Carnton is a Civil War era novella set in Nashville, clocking in at about 250 pages. It took me a week or so to read it because of the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, but it’s a nice little getaway to read by a cozy fire at night.
Although I found the plot predictable (or maybe I just read enough to see plot twists repeat), I still enjoyed the story. I quickly fell in love with the characters (especially the little seven year old boys and the mischief they got into) and the setting just sounded as magical as the cover made it look.
If you’re looking for a nice little read this season, or even looking for a present for the history lover in your life, then this will hit the spot! Additionally, there are several recipes mentioned throughout the book that are included in the back.
Thank you to the Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Guild for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review! It was delightful. All opinions are my own and were not required to be positive.

I’ve lived in Franklin, TN for several years. Twice every Sunday morning, I drive past the turnoff to the Carnton Plantation. I’ve visited once-last year when my brother and his family were in town. Walking through the home, hearing the stories as you travel from room to room, gives visitors an idea of the family and people who once resided there Tamera Alexander takes it a step further and invites readers into the home, inviting them to join in the day-to-day life of the household.
History is brought to life through her stories. Christmas at Carnton is the perfect introduction to her new series as we meet the McGavock family. When Aletta Prescott loses her job and is about to lose her help, she makes a trip to the Carnton home in hopes of securing temporary employment.
On her way out, she encounters Jake Winston, a wounded Confederate soldier sent to help Mrs. McGavock and the Ladies Relief Society. The last place Jake wants to be is in the midst of a bunch of females, but one in particular just might change his mind.
This is a reminder of how God can take the worst of circumstances and not only turn them around, but give us more than we can imagine or know to ask for. Set during the Christmas season-a time that reminds us of what God gave up for us-this novella embraces the reader with heart and hope.
I’m looking forward to seeing where Alexander takes her readers next. If you’d like to learn more about the history of Carnton, click here. I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors, including NetGalley.

Aletta Prescott, a young widow raising a young son, and with child, is an inspiration to all who face events that threaten not only one’s way of life, but life itself. While facing job loss, foreclosure, and an almost empty pantry, Aletta is alert to opportunities to provide for her family, now that her soldier husband will not be returning home to do so.
If the story occurred in real life, many would say Aletta’s circumstances changed due to a happy coincidence. Others, like Aletta, would give credit where it belongs, with the God in whom she placed her trust.
Captain Jake Winston’s injuries might not be as apparent as those of the Civil War’s many amputees, but they left him unable to perform his military duties. To say he was less than ecstatic about his assignment to represent the army and assist with an auction sponsored by the Women’s Relief Society in support of Confederate soldiers would be an understatement.
Might his presence be a part of God’s plan? Might this be the best place for his recuperation from his injuries? Only time will tell. Perseverance, faith, and forgiveness are major themes in this book.
Alexander handles her subject matter with grace and style. I highly recommend this novella and look forward to the series of which it serves as a prequel. I thank NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for a free copy of Christmas in Carnton in exchange for my honest review.
I received no monetary compensation for this review.

Debbie Macomber’s latest book, A Mrs. Miracle Christmas is a wonderful little Christmas story. I always enjoyed reading Debbie’s other Angel series books. I loved that she not only has Mrs. Miracle but also Shirley, Goodness and Mercy as guest appearances in this story.
Debbie does a fantastic job of carefully crafted characters that you will not soon forget. I fell in love with Laurel, her husband Zack, grandmother Helen and of course Mrs. Miracle. Helen has started to be forgetful and showing signs of dementia.
Laurel and Zack work full time and need to find someone to stay with grandmother during the day, while they are at work. Mrs. Miracle shows up as a Home Care Angel to stay with Helen. Helen is the first to realize that Mrs.
Miracle is a real heavenly angle sent from God in answer to their prayers. I received a complementary copy from Ballantine Books through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
You know it’s approaching the holidays when we get a Debbie Macomber Christmas novel! I was trying to save this book, but I just couldn’t. I had to dive in and read it. I LOVED this book. This story revolves around Lauren & Zach, a childless couple, and Helen, Lauren’s grandmother who has dementia.
We also have a return of Mrs. Miracle, whom I absolutely adore. There is a lot of knitting in this story, which I will confess, I learned how to knit because of Debbie Macomber. I loved all the characters in this book.
Lauren is an elementary school teacher and Zach is a computer programmer. They are childless, but have struggled with IVF and had a foster child adoption fall through. Helen has dementia and is unable to live alone any longer, so Lauren and Zach have moved in with her.
Mrs. Miracle has come to be a companion of Helen’s during the holiday season. This book will make you laugh and cry and believe in Christmas miracles. It is definitely a must read for the holiday season.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Reviews From Real Customers
I look forward to reading Melody Carlson’s annual Christmas story every fall. This year she has given us A Christmas in the Alps which takes readers to the French Alps. Simone Winthrop just lost her Grandma Betty, and she is busy clearing out her cluttered home.
She comes across a letter written to her by her great-grandmother and namesake who has since passed away. Simone is told in the letter that there is a treasure her namesake left behind in Avre when she departed France in the 1940s with the American airman who would become her husband.
Her great-grandmother wants Simone to have to the treasure, but she does not provide further details. Simone’s best friend, Andrea convinces her go on the adventure to France. I got to take the journey with Simone to Paris and then Avre.
France in December sounds enchanting especially the Christmas markets. I found A Christmas in the Alps to be well-written with steady pacing. This is a short but engaging tale. Simone meets Kyle on the plane and finds herself attracted to him.
Unfortunately, Simone fails to get his last name or number before Kyle rushes to catch his flight to Oslo. We wonder if they will meet again. The romance is sweet and plays out slowly. I enjoyed the descriptions of Avre and the factory that makes watches and clocks.
The village has an old-world charm that is magical especially at Christmas. Simone gets a chance to search for family and the treasure. There is a light Christian element that emphasizes the importance of prayer and leaving our troubles within God’s hands.
A Christmas in the Alps is a story about family and forgiveness. You do not want to wait until it is too late because then you may never get that chance to make amends with someone important. This is a lovely novella, but I found it lacking the humor and magic of Melody Carlson’s earlier Christmas stories.
It is a sweet Christmas tale, but I just wanted a little more. A Christmas in the Alps is a cheery Christmas novella with a lost letter, a furtive treasure, a petrifying plane ride, a charismatic seat companion, charming Christmas markets, secret searches, striking clocks, and an astonishing answer.

ECPA BESTSELLER – For fans of holiday romances and Amish life comes a new Christmas tale of surprising expectations and discovering miracles. Old Order Amish Ivy Zook is wrestling with her need to shed her community’s ways so she can grow the business of her dreams: planning parties.
As long as she’s stuck living without modernization, she can barely get her business on its feet. But if she leaves too soon, she’d cause trouble for her sister, Holly, who is planning her wedding to Joshua Smucker.
All of their plans become twice as complicated when an old car crashes into the storefront of Greene’s Pharmacy, carrying a Swartzentruber (ultra-conservative sect) Amish man, Arlan, and his very ill sister.
The Zooks take in Arlan and Madga, tending to the woman’s illness and Arlan begins helping around the family farm. Ivy and Arlan are on different tracks, one wanting to leave her community and the other to return to his.
But both young people are trying to discover what God has in store for their futures and what miracles might lie around the corner this Christmas season.
Reviews From Real Customers
This is a book written with two families of different Amish beliefs. One family is of the Old Order Amish, the other is of Swartzentruber Amish, an ultra conservative sect of Amish. Ivy dreams are of establishing a party planning business which would not be sanctioned by the Old Order Amish.
Her mother is refusing to consider such a plan saying to do so will cause problems for her sister studying and working at a pharmacy where she advises Amish on medical concerns. Her sister also plans to continue working there after her marriage a few months from now.
Amish women do not work outside the home once they marry so this requires the Bishops approval. Thus, Ivy’s actions could affect the decision of the Bishop to allow her sister to work after marriage.
Arlan has a sister who is ill with stomach issues. He soon discovers she is malnourished not able to eat or drink and his parents not concerned saying it could be God punishing her. On his own he decides to take her to the pharmacy for help.
This all back fires, the sister gets treatment, however, and the two are in hiding from their parents. What unfolds is a story of one who is willing to leave her Order to be herself and one who is willing to give up his Order for a sister who he loves dearly.
He in turn works hard to reestablish himself to be able to return to his Order in good standing while she learns how to stand up for herself, be strong and continue within her Order. It is a story of extreme faith with biblical passages, prayer, determination, compassion, willingness or need to help others and above all yielding to God and His will for them.
I felt myself get upset at Ivy for her unkind thoughts/judgements; after all she had not walked in Arlan’s shoes so could not see why he made the choices he did. Another aspect of her nature is her determination to have what she wants but no mention is made of her praying for guidance as to what Her Father is asking of her.
Does He want her to open this party planning business or does he want her to consider the alternative plan her mother suggested or even something not yet known to anyone? The best part of this story is when Ivy realizes she can bloom right where she is, within her Old Order Amish, that she does not need to abandon all she has known in order to be herself.
And is this not true for us as well, that we too can be who we are without abandoning anyone or anything as long as who we are is formed from love, with love and in love. This is a beautiful story, one that can be read again and again for there is much hidden within the words that when reread in a month, year or ten years will make it all new with something else leaping out of its context to bring joy to our hearts.
It was a honor to read this story, and I know I will be rereading it again and again. I received a complimentary copy of this book from WaterBrook, an imprint of Random House, a division of Penguin Random House LLC.
through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
A Christmas Haven, a touching Christmas story, gives us a glimpse of the Zook family, one year after the story, The Christmas Remedy. Ivy Zook, like most young people, is struggling with who she is and who she wants to be.
It is a struggle that will touch a chord in almost everyone’s life. However, her dilemma is complicated by her being Old Order Amish. Arlan and Magda Keim, brother and sister, land in Ivy’s area when running from an even stricter Amish group.
Arlan knows his sister desperately needs help, and by helping her he violated so many rules he may not ever be able to return home. He already knows Magda cannot return home. I enjoyed how the focus of the book was more on sibling/family love vs.
romantic love. Not to fear though, there is some romance, too! Arlen’s love for Magda was heartwarmingly moving. In addition, Ivy’s conflict, which will affect her sister the most, demonstrated her deep love and affection for her sister, also.
A Christmas Haven illustrates the true meaning of Christmas. As each person struggles to reconcile faith, hopes and dreams, they begin to learn life lessons in honor, forgiveness, kindness and most of all, God’s love for them.
I received the book from Waterbrook Multnomah. However, I was under no obligation to post a review.
This was a wonderful story about characters that that come from different Amish communities. I love reading the difference between the two. It was intriguing to learn that one of them is very strict and almost seems like they can’t really be themselves.
The rules become a problem for Arlan and his sister Madga. I admired how Arlan stood up for his sister and was willing to risk being shunned to keep his sister safe. Ivy was a great character and shows readers how Amish do question what they have been taught.
Ivy wanted a taste of the English life but struggled leaving the Amish. When her world collided with Arlan and Madga it was not by accident. I believe God places us at the right time. I liked how Ivy and her family opened their home to Arlan and Madga.
It was hard for Arlan to see how things were a bit more relaxed in the Amish community that Ivy is a part of. The story was a nice insight detailing how we all question our beliefs at some point. We all search scripture to make sure we are following God and sometimes it is okay to question when it is not lining up with the Word of God.
Madga had sinned and her family didn’t want anything to do with her. That broke my heart to read how a family could turn their back on someone. We all sin but the good news is God forgives us. I related to Madga because I have been judged before in a church and everyone turned their backs on me.
It was like losing a family as I felt alone and ashamed. This story has struggles, judgment, forgiveness, a bit of romance and a wonderful message of forgiveness. I received an arc copy of this book from the authors.
The review is my own opinion.

A lovely Christmas collection by some much loved authors. I love the way each novella showcases the warmth and love of family at Christmas. Life isn’t simple but faith can be and these authors have illustrated that with heartwarming stories that set a gentle holiday mood.
An Amish Family Christmas by Leslie Gould — Has all the feels I need in a Christmas story. A young woman struggling with meeting the expectations of her large extended family while nursing a wounded heart.
Plenty of characters to love on and a few to hold grudges against just to spice things up. And a betrayed love that might have a chance at mending. Love the way the author weaves in the advent tradition of counting down to Christmas.
An Amish Christmas Recipe Box by Jan Drexler — Christmas baking is definitely the way to a man’s heart. at least that’s what Ada is hoping. Only what if her culinary magic strikes the wrong man? A heart-tugging romance about mistaken expectations and the wisdom of looking beyond the surface to assess the measure of a man.

Three generations of Stoltzfus women are all living under the same roof. At twenty-five, Naomi has never been married, and both her mother, Barbara, and her grandmother, Ruth, have recently been widowed.
Each nursing broken or lonely hearts, they also each have potential suitors. When a storm on Christmas Eve forces the three couples to take shelter in the basement of the Stotlzfus homestead, secrets are revealed, hearts are opened, and all three potential grooms drop to their knees for very different reasons–a proposal, a prayer, and an epiphany.
– Emma Bontrager is spending her first Christmas alone after her husband of 45 years, Henry, passed away in July. Although the Amish don’t normally allow animals in their homes, a big, fat, orange barn cat keeps coming into Emma’s house.
She shoos the cat away, but it continues to appear in her house, settling on Henry’s favorite wingchair. But the cat isn’t the only Christmas visitor: a group of young people help bring the Christmas spirit to Emma, reminding her that love and hope abide.
– Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin – As a young man enjoying his rumspringa, David Byler gave his heart to an Englisch girl, but he eventually realized he couldn’t give up his Plain faith and family for her, so he let her go.
He’s found a new love in his Bee County Plain community, Molly Shrock. Molly has been patient, waiting for the man she loves to love her back. Just as he is ready to propose, David makes a startling discovery: Bobbie Mc – Gregor, his Englisch love, is back.
Will Molly’s prayers for a Christmas love be answered? Home for Christmas by Ruth Reid – When a misdirected GPS sends Ellie Whetstone to the wrong address, she inadvertently finds herself breaking into the home of Amish man, Ezra Mast.
Could this new place with its slower pace be the right home for Ellie?.

An Amish Christmas Love is another anthology of novellas from publisher Thomas Nelson & Zondervan Fiction. Like the other Amish collections, this one compiles four stories from four different authors.
If you’re a fan of Amish fiction, authors Beth Wiseman, Amy Clipston, Kelly Irvin and Ruth Reid are familiar names. With the theme of Christmas in the background, we can expect the warmth that is simultaneous with the season.
In Beth Wiseman’s Winter Kisses, it is so endearing to see how three generations of the Stolfuz women live together under one roof, and find love with the help of each other. Ruth is just hilarious. I don’t know what to expect from this grandma figure who also happens to be quite forward in her romantic ways, but her story was the one I was most keenly interested in because of it.
LOL. Amy Clipston’s stories have always captured my heart with its emotional connection with life’s mundane. And in The Christmas Cat, a connection with a feline friend led to happy memories. It was just so heartwarming to see Hank the Cat soothe Emma’s heart during her first Christmas without her husband of 45 years.
How the youngsters in the community took time to be with Emma so she won’t be alone was also sweet. There’s something special about reminiscing the moments in your love story. “May you discover a wealth of faith and the power of God.
Prayer is a powerful too. Not everything you ask will be answered immediately, but know God is listening. His Word is without void. ” (Home for Christmas) Next we have Kelly Irvin’s Snow Angels, which brings in the trepidation of what it means to be “equally yoke” between the Englisch and the Amish.
In all honesty, I was quite annoyed with David. It’s one thing to be unsure of your feelings, but to string along two girls, and let things go far, it’s just not right. Despite that, Molly’s character is a highlight, and it’s quite nice to know her in this story.
And finally, but not least, Ruth Reid’s Home for Christmas connects with me. I just love the involvement of Lulu, the dog that shone throughout the story. Her connection with Allison was endearing. Her resolve to protect her was just outright tear-worthy.
As a proud pup mom myself, I just love this portrayal of a dog in a story that have quite the substance, and debunking the misunderstanding of the beautiful companionship of a canine family member. In all, An Amish Christmas Love Novella Collection brought together family in time for the most magical season of the year.
Heartwarming, sweet and definitely a time to share, it’s a collection worthy to be read. Disclaimer: I received a digital ARC of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this.
This is my honest opinion.
A great collection of enjoyable Christmas stories that enthusiasts of Amish fiction will thoroughly love! Winter Kisses by Beth Wiseman Such a sweet, fun story of romance for three generations of women! With some cute comedy thrown in for enjoyment, this entertaining Christmas story about healing and love after heart break is worth the read.
As always, Beth Wiseman does a great job writing wonderful characters that you’ll love! The Christmas Cat by Amy Clipston Amy Clipston can always be depended on to give us a great story, and this one is no different.
The endearing characters in this book will give you that warm Christmas feeling, as Emma deals with her loss and discovers that friendship comes in all shapes and forms. Snow Angels by Kelly Irvin We can’t always run from our past, and author Kelly Irvin does a wonderful job of showing us that, as well as showing us that the past can be forgiven and we can move on.
You’ll find yourself rooting for Molly and shaking your head at David. But hang in there. The ending is worth it! Home for Christmas by Ruth Reid This incredible story has a lot of substance and includes the tough subject of a child prone to seizures.
Author Ruth Reid doesn’t try to “hide” that subject but faces it squarely. A series of mix ups as well as twists and turns gives this story a “what next” quality that made it hard to put down. I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK With Elizabeth dealing with depression, she felt she had to leave to protect her family, but in the mist if that, she suffers memory loss because if an accident. Being home with their son and daughter, Luke is angry that his wife just up and left, leaving him to care for their kids.
I enjoyed this story, though I felt there was a lot of repeating information the first half of the story, which got to be a little annoying at times. I reallt liked the characters, but Cassie could be a brat when she wanted to be.
The story was a sad one, because of the issues Elizabeth had to go through that kept her away from her family. If only she or Luke would have thought to get her some help. RaeAnne Thayne does a really nice job explaining depression as well as memory loss.
This is two very difficult issues to deal with, and I think the excellent writing of this author smoothed out the issues in a way everyone can understand. I loved the Brambleberry House, though I’ve not read any of that series, I’m glad I was able to get a glimpse of what it was like staying there.
There is so much more to this story, so much I want to tell but you need to read it for yourself. This is a nice, clean Christmas read, and I hope you will check it out and see for yourself how enjoyable it is.
A copy of this book was given to me by the author or publisher. I am not required to write a positive review. The opinions here in this review are totally mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a RaeAnne Thayne Christmas story. Thayne is gifted at writing contemporary small-town romances with lots of heart and warm feelings. Her Haven Point stories are favorites of mine, and Coming Home for Christmas is definitely one for the keeper shelf.
I’ve loved meeting the people of Haven Point and then revisiting them in subsequent books. Luke and Elizabeth’s story is so poignant and heart-wrenching, yet I loved the sweet uplifting messages of forgiveness, second chances, and the power of love.
Although both Luke and Elizabeth are broken and hurting, they work together toward healing themselves and their family. With well-drawn, realistic, and multi-layered main characters, and a colorful and delightful cast of secondary characters, this story comes alive on the page.
While the background story is tragic and emotional, the overwhelming takeaway of the spirit of Christmas and family is uplifting and heartwarming. I recommend this book to those who enjoy clean contemporary romance.
4 1/2 stars! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the publisher/NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Anticipation over, Luke and Elizabeth’s reunion, although tense and uncertain, was what I have been waiting for in this series. Since most of Haven Point, Idaho, believed Luke murdered Elizabeth, and with the district attorney about to charge him, Luke’s bringing her back was necessary, even though he didn’t want her there.
Now he can get divorced, get cleared, and move on with his life and their two children, Cassie, almost 10 and Bridger, almost 8. Missing for seven years, Luke’s friend, FBI agent Elliot Bailey, found Elizabeth living in Oregon, even though she had a different name and life.
As the story develops with Elizabeth temporarily living in the house she was in when she left, and with Luke and their children in their own home, the mystery of where she has been and why is revealed.
I loved this book. The transformations of Luke, their children, and the whole town are affected by what happened to Elizabeth for such a long period of time. The strength of Elizabeth as she attempts to clear her name and Luke’s made my heart sing.
I truly admire her and what she was able to overcome. This author writes with clarity, heart, and leaves no loose ends. My heart is full.

The third book in the series about the chocolate loving friends. I’ve just read the fourth straight after it and having read all four within the last few weeks I shall miss their adventures. As sweet and light as the frosting on the cakes they devour on an almost daily basis.
Ideal light reading when you want a lift. Perfect for holiday reading, even if this year that means your garden on a sunny day or lounge on a typical day!.
Conclusion
There are many different ways to conclude a christmas novel for adults. Some common ways are to have the protagonist reflect on the events of the story, to have a heartwarming moment between the protagonist and another character, or to have the protagonist learn a valuable lesson.
However, there are many other possibilities as well, so it really depends on the specific story and what would be most fitting.
