Best Christmas Devotional For Families (2025 Updated)

A friend bought me this for my birthday and now I’m buying it for another friend as a gift to her. I have read devotionals before but none, and I mean none have compared to this. The way it is written, as if Jesus himself is speaking directly to me, takes this devotional to the next level in so many ways.

This devotional, along with my Bible, bring me so much joy every day. I feel extremely fulfilled in my walk with Christ. The larger print also helps with the reading if you struggle with smaller print.

I highly recommend this devotional. I promise you will not be disappointed.

WOW!! I am so impressed with this book I am not sure I can cram how I feel about it in a short review. This book has certainly taken me to new heights in my prayer life and made me think about the areas it has been lacking as well as develop new strategies for prayer.

Most importantly though Priscilla has re-enforced a truth I so easily forget – We have an enemy!! That enemy is not our family members husband friends church leaders co-workers – That enemy is Satan – the devil himself – who will do everything in his power to destroy what is precious to us and the Lord – our testimony our marriages our children our church and the cause of Christ.

While we fight our battle with earthly weapons and continue to fail stumble and fall over and over God is calling us to warfare with a different set of weapons. Those with heavenly power a power only the Almighty God can give but one guaranteed to win the war every time!! Have you been feeling defeated discouraged down? Does life seem hopeless fearful and depressing? Do your past sins continue to bring guilt and shame even though you know you have been forgiven? Is your marriage a battle zone in itself? Are your children or grandchildren wayward living the life of the prodigal? God is calling you to War!! I learned so much from this book! Right from the very first page, I gained a new perspective about prayer and spiritual warfare. Shirer uses a perspective similar to Screwtape Letters, saying “If I were your enemy, I would.

” and explains ways Satan works against us. More importantly, she then presents truth and the Scripture verses to back it up of how we can and should fight back in prayer. If you saw the movie War Room, you will want this book.

If you didn’t see the movie, rent and watch it, and then buy this book! Warning: you will want to buy your own copy because I guarantee you will find yourself underlining and highlighting the truths and insights she brings forward.

If you have seen the movie War Room and are longing to implement what you saw on the screen through Priscilla Shirer’s character then you need this book. I loved the movie but this book just takes it over the top.

If you’ve ever experienced a Bible study by Priscilla you already know what I mean. If not let me give you a little glimpse of what is to come. The opening of the book sets the stage so you will have no doubt about what is expected.

Here’s the opening paragraph to prove what I’m saying: Just so you know what you’re getting into. By the time you’ve finished reading (and working) through this book the front cover shouldn’t be able to close neatly back over on itself.

It should be noticeably disfigured. Ski-ramping up from the spine at such a scooped angle that even if you laid an old-school telephone book on top you still couldn’t smooth out what’s become so harshly permanently misshapen.

From heartfelt use. War torn. An impossible option for regifting at Christmastime. (pg. 1) Now that’s the type of study I’m interested in. One that compels me to dive in and dig deep. One that I beg the Lord to ingrain upon my being.

This devotional was given to me by a friend and I shared it with my fiancée. When we got married, we decided to read it everyday as we started our day. Even when my husband traveled, he would have me call and read it.

As we made our adjustments to marriage and some days were not so good, we kept this commitment and we are going into our 5th year of marriage. We knew if we stayed in the word, God would help us with our differences.

I read it 2 times, scriptures 2 times. I am a minister but whoever feels to speak up does commentary. God opens up SO much to us daily! We know this is the writers interpretation of the word but she is very anointed.

I make sure anything she says lines up to the word. It always does. On days you are discouraged, sometimes you need a tool like this to keep you on track. We gift these to people who are open to receiving them.

You will know if you listen. I praise God for our devotional and for the writer who obeys God.

I purchased this DEVOTIONAL version of the book since I already received the original one, but I wanted the additional guided thoughts and questions added to the daily message. Wonderful gift to give and a must have for every spiritual person seeking a closer relationship with Jesus.

Whether an old fashioned Bible thump-er or modern Jesus follower, all will learn from this thoughtful and useful book. During an extended family medical emergency this winter, spring, and now summer, this amazing book has spoken to me daily as few other books have.

Sarah Young is a fabulous writer and I am grateful that one of my prayer warriors gave me the other Jesus Calling book at Christmas!! A KEEPER for the top ten must re-read books it is totally harmonious to the Scriptures and brings those sacred writings to life.

This book will hold its weight as a must have devotional tool next to Storms in the Dessert and Hinds Feet. I have a family member who is wondering if God and Jesus are real and plan to encourage him to ask him to read Jesus Calling by Sarah Young to begin his quest to hear and see the Hand and Voice of God and Jesus.

Sometimes in this rude world people forget to be still and enter into a devotional reading with an open heart and spirit in order to make themselves ready to to ask to receive the gift of a new journey of faith.

This is a must read!! Especially if you’re trying to crawl through a hard stormy life challenge. This book helps me continue to move forward, inch by inch. I have no doubt that I will continue to read this author and give her books as precious gifts for the rest of my life.

This hardback book is a new revised modern version of the already favorite Beginner’s Bible. It is not actually a Bible but instead more of a story book Bible with bright illustrations that portray the stories it includes.

The illustrations themselves although bright and colorful, seem a little artificial. I guess what I am not quite so fond of is that they all have these big bulging eyes. Otherwise, they are not bad. At the beginning of the chapter, beneath the title, there is a Scripture reference to advise where the story is found in the Bible itself.

It includes a variety of stories from the Old and New Testaments such as: Creation, Moses, Joshua, David, several of the Prophets, the Birth of Jesus, His Miracles, and other timeless classic Bible tales.

This Beginner Bible would likely be great for young children who may not understand the Bible itself yet,or those beginner readers who enjoy the Bible stories but struggle to read the extra words in the actual Bible.

It does however, only covers select parts of the Bible, and the stories are simplified for younger children. At times the stories only cover about three pages, with an illustration on every page also.

Amazing bible stories that our toddlers love to read! I can’t believe how well our 5 year old recounts the stories now when we talk about the old and New Testament, this book does a great job of simplifying the stories in a way a child can understand and remember and then we as parents can expound more on meanings.

Highly recommend to anyone w young kids!!.

I bought this for my granddaughter. She loves it. It’s colorful pictures and wonderful stories in the Bible makes this a wonderful gift. She has been reading it and telling mom about what she read. Great price too for a hardback book.

An outstanding book! There is so much imformation in this volume and I turn to it time and again when I am studying the Bible. There are timelines, maps, biographies of key biblical figures, including all of the Apostles of Christ, and so much more! If you read the Bible regularly or even if you are new to the Bible, you will be inspired by everything about this book! The spiral binding allows the book to open flat for ease of use while reading and researching.

The illustrations are detailed and vibrant and the content is unmatched! This is one of the best books I have ever used to accompany my Bible studies and I wouldn’t be without it! Highly recommended!.

This book is chock full of bible charts, maps and time lines. And it’s all spiral bound so that the book lays flat. The pages are shiny and feel like they are a good quality and the colors are awesome.

Lots of trivia besides the charts, maps and time lines including 100 Key People in the Bible, a listing of Bible translations with a brief description of each, biblical prayers, key Bible stories, etc.

Highly recommended.

This book covers much of the old testament and graphically depicts the Tabernacle and Hebrew customs. The time line is also very informative and reveals a perspective that sometimes is not clear in the scriptures given that all the books may or may not be displayed in the chronological order as presented within the bible.

Interesting is the subsequent religions that emerge out of nowhere to be revered as truth while simply fictional. This book is an excellent teaching platform for any Christ-follower. This book was a gift and I have purchased another to give as a gift to my close friend.

I love praying the Liturgy of the Hours, but with worsening vision, I’ve started to have difficulty reading many books. I treated myself to upgrading to this large print set, and it was the best thing I could have done.

I can read the text in these even when my glasses aren’t immediately handy! These books are also beautifully bound and just feel solid in my hands. They inspire one to pray, for sure. This set also comes with a sturdy case to store the 3 volumes not currently in use on your book shelf, and the common texts are also large print and laminated.

It comes with a St. Joseph’s Guide as well for the current year, and for everything that you receive, I think this is a wonderful investment!.

The first volume (Advent) gives you a bit of a walkthrough on how to do the liturgy of the hours, and there’s some other resources out there. This set even includes some cards that break down the format, and it also included the St.

Joseph guide. But, if your like me and everything sticks better when you do it, you can also download the divine office app for free on Google play or whatever else. It’s always on point. At the top of whatever office it breaks down the ribbon placement (page numbers are always correct) and goes through everything word for word as it is in your set (I will say I have trouble finding the hymns they use, and the wording of the concluding prayers vary slightly).

It’s helpful too, because the app prompts you with the antiphons where the book doesn’t. I mean, they tell you in the first volume where to do them, but that’s it. Really, my only gripe that isn’t a really big deal is that the ribbons aren’t bound into the volumes.

They’re on a plastic tab that slips into the spine of the book. Other than that, I’m very pleased.

God has spoken to me clear as day through the divine office. Its the official prayer of Church and has helped me more the blessed rosary! Thats saying a lot because the blessed rosary is so powerful in itself! The quality of the covers is good, the pages are gilded and thin.

The gilded edges dont stick very often as some books do. There are plenty of ribbons and theyre sturdy. Every once and a while there will be a printing mistake where the ink doesn’t complete a full letter in a word but it is rare and doesnt bother me at all.

I ordered this book for my baby girl on the way. Though she isn’t here yet, I took the time to read this for myself and fell in love with it. This is such a sweet story with such a heart-warming message.

It touches my heart on an even deeper level, since she is our rainbow baby after suffering a difficult missed miscarriage last year. This story really really holds true for my husband and I. I can’t wait to hold her in my arms and to read this to her.

Colorful illustrations illustrate the classic theme that children are a precious gift from God. God Gave Us You written by Lisa Tawn Bergren and illustrated by Laura J. Bryant is an adorable little book.

The edition I received has a hard cover thick pages and seems like it would be durable. The story is cute and the illustrations enhance the meaning of the story. The theme of the book assures a child that he or she is treasured loved and a blessing from God.

Children will enjoy the colorful illustrations featuring animals (mostly polar bears) in various situations. I recommend this book to any parent who is looking for an entertaining book with themes of assurance and love.

Love it, love it, love it. Short enough devotionals and beautiful paintings to get your spirit up and going, deep enough that when you take more time to reflect, God speaks. I love it so I gave the book to my daughter and two daughter in laws.

This devotional book is different from any other I have read. The book is written in the first person as though Christ is speaking directly to you. His words are based on scripture, and often a direct quote from the Bible is in italic type.

Several scripture references are given for each devotion to give proof that what He is saying is true to the Word. I also appreciate that there is a devotion to start the day as well as one to end. The morning devotion is usually a bit longer and more thought-provoking than the the evening devotion.

I have found this book to be an immense help to me in my Christian walk. Somehow, when I envision Him speaking directly to me, the words take on a greater meaning and increase my understanding of living a more Christ-like life.

I have gifted this book to many people, and the usual response is it has been a blessing.

I first heard about this book from an International Contact who had this book gifted him. He was so impressed with it that I decided to check it out. The book comes in various editions – some with different covers but most have only one devotional reading for each day.

I chose this edition because it gives a morning and evening reading – left page for morning; right for evening. There’s also a wee reflection to think about for when it’s “lights out” time! The quality of the binding is much better than I expected and the book is compact enough to take anywhere.

It’s roughly A5 in size though quite thick because of the 365 days of content. I’m more spiritual than religious, but I don’t think it really matters what your beliefs, as there is something for everyone in this book.

If you are setting forth on the journey to self-improvement and want some thoughts each day to guide and inspire you, then this book will assist you in that direction. And if you don’t particularly have a religious following or belief, pretend it’s someone else talking to you.

Either way, the message is positive and encouraging. Money well spent! Declan.

Reading the daily devotional morning and evening readings and Bible passage references for each has given me a new level of understanding of my faith and my relationship with God. I bought this copy because I gave my 3 year old copy to a friend whom I think will benefit from reading it and using it as a key to reading the Bible.

This beautiful book has become something that my husband and I read nightly. The Love Dare for Couples Devotion is a short 1 page per day devotional of encouraging reminders that the greatest gift is love.

After so many years of marriage it seems that everyone tends to take their mate for granted. With Bible based tips, I really look forward to the weekly love dares to become closer to God and my spouse.

It’s a good reminder that God put a husband and wife together as one on earth above all others. Renew your love for your husband or wife the way God meant things to be and trust Him. Couples should always be there for each other especially when life gets in the way.

It includes 365 days of devotions for a very reasonable price.

Half of all marriages end in divorce. That means most marriage relationships are either severely dysfunctional or headed that way. What is the answer? The Love Dare’s answer is that we don’t really understand how to live out the love that marriage requires.

Inspired by the movie Fireproof, this book is a forty day devotional that covers various aspects of the true sacrificial love which is missing from many marriages. There is a lot to like about this book.

It clearly explains the nature of mature love & practically challenges you to live it out. It emphasizes how YOU have to be the one to take responsibility and change, regardless of how your partner does or does not respond, and it shows how the strength for that kind of love is powered by a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

This book has had a powerful impact on thousands of people, and I am very thankful for the truth it teaches. However, the book does have some shortcomings. First, the book is unnaturally constrained to fit the plot of the movie.

The movie’s plot confronted the main character with his need for a personal relationship with God mid-way through, and so the book follows suit. Halfway through the forty days, we suddenly shift to a presentation of how living out sacrificial love should make one realize his absolute need for Christianity.

For Christians reading a book on marriage, the discussion of how our relationship with Christ should structure our marital relationship should be foundational, should be page 1. On the other hand, a non-Christian reading the book frankly is unlikely to be impressed by this sudden foray into an altar call in the middle of the book.

Second, the book spends little time on the differing roles of the husband and wife in a marriage. From a Biblical standpoint, there are real & crucial differences in how a man loves & responds to his wife vs.

how a woman loves & responds to her husband. The Love Dare doesn’t address these differing roles which are very important to the success of any Christian marriage. Third, I felt there was this unwritten “if you do these steps your marriage will be transformed” aura to the book.

While all marriages can benefit from going through this devotional, I think that many seriously troubled marriages will not have the movie’s storybook happy ending at the end of forty days. Consequently, I fear people will either conclude they failed in some way or that God failed in some way.

Neither would be true. Many marriages need more than just a good devotional; they need intensive personal intervention by a person of wisdom such as a counselor or pastor plus two partners who are both committed and humble.

In my experience true humility is seldom found in both halves of a troubled relationship. The Love Dare is forty days of wisdom and challenge that will benefit any marriage; just don’t consider it to be the complete cure-all for every troubled relationship in the world.

Update. Ordered another one. When done with this one gonna give to son and his fiance. Every couple should have this book. Time will tell. After 13 years of marriage, the best 13 years of my life, my wife tells me she isn’t happy and not in love with me anymore.

She is the love of my life so I will try anything to get her to find her feeling. A friend recommended the movie and books so I ordered The Love Dare Day By Day. Then realizing what I did then ordered The Love Dare.

Still waiting for it. But I will do anything in my power to save my marriage. I got into church already and pray pray pray. I won’t give up on my wife. A LITTLE UPDATE! I have read ahead to day 50 in 3 days and going back each morning to the day I’m on and reread and do the dare.

I know after this three days that if I had this book 13 years ago I would not be in this situation today. I’m not taking any shortcuts. Putting 200% in this and the 40 day challenge also. I’m praying my wife sees the difference and comes home.

I was great to her in many ways before it was just my attitude. Now that I know and these books, if it’s not to late and she gives me the chance with the help of God I will never let my wonderful wife down again.

I love this devotional! The words are, of course, inspiring and a great way for me to begin each day communing with God and his divine love for us all! The daily reading keeps me focused on what is important in life! This particular Jesus Calling is a beautiful book, the cover is gorgeous and the pages and font are amazing, this is my third purchase of Jesus Calling and this particular book is my favorite!!!.

I received this book from a friend a few years ago when I was going through some difficult moments in my life. I have a friend going through a similar situation and want to help but I’m a full time caregiver for my spouse and don’t have enough time to be of help without being overwhelmed.

This book is so beautifully illustrated that looking at it makes me feel the true Spirit of Christmas! I wish I could give one to everyone I knows because the Scriptures bring such great hope. Sarah Young has such a beautiful way of bringing the Scriptures together, that every reading leaves me with and easy to recall gem of thought for my day.

Jesus Calling for Christmas is beautifully written as are all of Sarah Young’s writings. Besides her inspirational thoughts as spoken by Jesus, our Lord, to us His beloved; the book is filled with thought-provoking and marvelous pictures that promote healing and peace.

It is a definite Winner and makes a perfect pre-Christmas Gift for the Believer and non-believers in your life.

Annie F. Downs is by far one of my favorite authors and podcasters. I’ve been lucky enough to hear her speak in person and have been heavily impacted by her writing. You man think this makes my review a biased one, and it might.

But it’s still worth noting that what draws me most to Annie is that she takes great care and intentionality with everything she does, and this devotional book is no different. 100 Days to Brave is Annie’s call to action for those seeking to find courage in their personal life situations.

One of the hardest things we do as a Christian is to try to discern God’s call on our life versus our own will. Often, when we figure out a step on the path fear holds us back. Annie’s goal is to help us fight through fear by reminding us daily where our eyes and attention should be focused as well as giving us one small action for the day.

Beautifully written book that gives hope and encouragement every morning. I’ve never been a devotional book kind of gal, but after reading so many of Annie’s other books I knew I needed to grab this one too.

I have never been more impressed with such simple, yet, elegant writing. I’ve recommended it to all of my friends and have plans of purchasing more copies to give as gifts. Spiritual or not, you need to read this book.

I bought this for my 16 yr old, who is very happy with it. She loves the way the daily devotionals are written & correspond with the Bible verses. I was looking for something that wasn’t going to be overwhelming and put “pressure” on myself if I missed a day or two. I like the way that this book is laid out. It’s broken down into various sections and you can start wherever you need to, whatever you’re going through.

Not what I expected at all. I guess the word challenge threw me. I will be giving this book to a non Christian or a new believer in Christ. It is great for someone at the beginning or middle of their walk.

The focus is on self. We should grow past that. Beautiful book for gift giving. I will be sending it as a birthday gift.

This book is a completely revised edition of a book that was previously released in 2009. This revision contains 32 new pages of content including a very interesting new cover, new excerpts from previous books such as In the Grip of Grace, Max on Life, Outlive Your Life, The Great House of God, You’ll Get Through This, When God Whispers Your Name, and more.

I’ve always been a fan of Max Lucado’s writings. I believe this book has universal appeal although this book is targeted towards the graduates. The devotions really serve as a reminder to what is important in life the values you hold and the choices you make.

The book is divided into five main categories: (a) God’s Plan for the Journey of Life–A Road Map for Success; (b) Stop, Look, and Listen–Good Habits for a Good Journey; (c) A Fork in the Road–Deciding Which Way to Go; (d) Dangers and Detours Ahead–Slow Down, Avoid Disaster; and (e) Two Is Fine Company–A Friend for the Journey.

At the end of the book are blank pages for writing a prayer for your life, writing your personal, professional, spiritual goals and steps you have taken to reach your goals, and writing down your favorite Scriptures or quotes and notes.

Let the Journey Begin is written in a devotional style. Each reading is short and concise but meaningful and inspirational.

Excellent beautifully written book I bought for all five of my grandchildren some just out of college, some now in college, and one an upcoming senior. After reading myself, I realized what wisdom is included in those pages and I want so much for my grandchildren to embrace God’s plan for them as they begin their journey of adulthood.

I have full faith that God will speak to them through the pages.
