Best Christmas Books For Toddlers (2025 Updated)

My 17 month old needs books to be short and simple. She enjoys this one. It is giving some basic elements of the “nativity scene” and ends with baby Jesus. We also purchased the “God Made Christmas” dvd and she loves that as well.

I will probably pull this out at Christmastime the next few years for us to read off and on. I saw another review, probably on Amazon, comparing the text to the lyrics “I said the cow, etc. ” It is similar.

Each page starts with “I am/ we are ____” and has a short rhyme for a star, the shepherds, the wise men, a cow, a ram, a donkey, Mary, and ends with baby Jesus. I think this is a wonderful way to introduce Christmas to a young child.

I bought this to go with the Little People Nativity. It tells of the role each person played in the story of Christmas. The only disappointment I have with it is that it has a page for everyone except Joseph.

Joseph played an important role too, but he didn’t have his own page. Wish he did. Overall, it’s a great book! I think it is the perfect length to help my 2 yr old understand the story of Jesus birth.

I loved that the heart of the story of the nativity was preserved, but in a simple enough way to be accessible to a toddler. I also loved the rhyme and rhythm; so often, in books written for very young children, the rhyming is weak – I thought this one was well done.

This was a great way to introduce my 5 & 2 yr old grand sons to the meaning of Christmas. Purchased along with the Little People nativity set.

Adorable pictures and short, sweet text make this a Christmas bedtime story must!

Such a cute little book my 5 year and and 8 year old treasure and carry around. Has all the stories from my childhood I remember and the paintings inside are just so detailed and the best Night Before Christmas rendition I have seen and I’ve looked at lots.

Have to restrain myself from buying this for everyone I know. They dont make books like this anymore.

I’m so obsessed with the construction site books. They are very clever and I was excited to see they had a Christmas version. The Christmas version seems a bit more advanced then the goodnight, goodnight, construction site book, but the age ranges are different.

I know my almost 5 year old will love this book just as much as the others.

I bought this book at an after Christmas sale and am so happy I did. My boys (2&4) love this book. The rhymes clearly link it to other books in the series and the story is so sweet. It really made an impression on my preschooler.

And the illustrations are beautiful.

Great Xmas book for kids who live construction vehicles! My 4 year old loves it!

Such a classic series about a loveable and loyal Rottweiler taking care of his family. The adventures that Carl takes is so fun and whimsical. The art style is absolutely stunning and gives you an ole’ time classic feel.

The story takes place on Christmas Eve. Carl and the baby spend time together before Santa arrives. They go out and play in the snow. They go Caroling, window shopping and napping. Such a cute story.

Highly recommend!!.

“Carl’s Christmas” by Alexandra Day is a classic in every sense of the word. It’s stood the test of time and remains relevant and touching as ever. There is no need for words with the beautiful illustrations by Alexandra Day.

It’s perfect for so many stages of reading with your child. First you point to Carl in all the pictures and then you add some story and keep adding and they want to hear it over and over and then they can tell you the story.

Go ahead and fall in love with the canine version of Mary Poppins.

This book is a classic. It has very few words, so any child can “tell” the story. The illustrations are just beautiful, which makes it a joy for both adult and child. As if all this isn’t enough, the story is witty and I do not mind taking this story out every single night.

LOVE IT. Highly recommended for all kids 7 and under.

One of my favorite things about Autumn is choosing a unique Christmas book to enjoy each Advent and Christmas season. Each year I keep my eyes open for a book that will capture the meaning of the Christmas.

This is that book for us this year. I’ve shared the details from the publisher near the bottom of this post. Do take a look. The first several lines of the book are included. It’s written in the style of A Visit from St.

Nicholas: The Night Before Christmas. The poetic cadence is soothing to the ears as a read aloud. I enjoyed the creative God honoring lines. The pictures were beautiful. I don’t like silly pictures that insult a child’s intelligence.

Oops you just found one of my soapboxes! I seek out books that include illustrations that are like fine art. I believe that the text and the illustrations are God honoring. I look forward to sharing this book with my family this year and in the years to come.

This is an excellent purchase for my classroom! I also will gift one to my teacher friends. It is a sweet rhyme story of the Nativity. The pictures are full page and beautiful. The text is perfect for read alouds, but may be a bit hard for independent readers under 3rd grade.

Overall one of my top favorite Christmas books!.

This is my 3 year old granddaughter’s favorite series of books. i know she will LOVE this Christmas one as well. She and her older sister get the giggles every time we read the books. Larry is just a favorite! This Christmas book is ADORABLE!!.

Most little children like to push a button of some kind. This is a fun book with the illustrated button they can push! What fun!

I tend to think Christmas is overly sentimentalized in our culture, and I shy away from most of the commercial aspects of it. So I wasn’t too excited when Barbour Publishing asked me to read this book.

UNTIL I saw it was written by one of my favorite authors! Once again, Olivia Newport introduces us to non-typical characters who quickly make a place for themselves in our hearts. Both stories in this collection center around older widows who have known heartache and loss.

One is determined to share hope, and the other (reluctantly!) receives it. Both ladies made me wish they lived in MY hometown – I just know we’d be fast friends! Their gracious and open hearts were the perfect vehicles to showcase the hope inherent in the timeless story of Christmas.

From the first page, Christmas in Gold is full of emotional memories of Astrid’s youth in war-torn Germany. Surely her faith and perseverance in such hard times are what help her to find the silver lining in her unwanted move to a senior living facility.

Unlike so many elderly folks, she turns her attention away from herself and outward to those who need the gift of hope at Christmas. Maybe that’s why she seems so young at heart! Christmas in Blue has a double meaning – Angela’s heart is lonely and blue as she faces her first holiday without her best friend who lived for Christmas.

It is also the color of Spruce Valley after a series of disasters destroy the community’s usual Christmas decorations. I particularly love the way Newport weaves Christmas carols and scriptures in the climax of the story on Christmas Eve.

One feature I often skip over is “discussion” points at the end of a book. Really? But these “reflection” questions are worth your time. They show that the author has experienced loss herself, and knows firsthand the way grief can threaten to dim our hope.

Her choice to embrace life, not in spite of pain, but because of it, will change the way I celebrate this Christmas. I heartily endorse this book th.

Colors of Christmas: Two Contemporary Stories Celebrate the Hope of Christmas by Olivia Newport 1. Christmas in Gold This is my favorite of the two stories. I enjoyed learning of Astrid’s life as a young girl, it was not an easy life.

far from it, but the lessons she learned she carried throughout all her life. Her physical therapist, Carly, is in need of encouragement and hope. As Astrid shares her life-story with her and the hope she has in the Lord, will she reach out to that hope? I think it was God’s plan and timing that brought them together at this time.

Carly’s little son, Tyler, is adorable and captured my heart with his charm. 2. Christmas in Blue I had a hard time getting into this story. It wasn’t until about midway through before it captured my interest.

The theme of loss and hope-found in God and His healing hand-bring Angela just that, hope in a time when she needs it most. I especially liked the service Gab took her and the comments the pastor gave and the Christmas Eve service at her church when the pastor said, “we have traveled to Bethlehem not to dwell on what we have lost but on what God has given”.

That is our hope, in what. or rather Who. God has given. The characters from both of these stories deal with the hardships, challenges and heartaches life often brings, loss and grief, changes and second-chances as well as blessings, learning to trust others and God, joy, love, hope and faith.

I appreciate the inspirational aspects of the story-line in each story. Heartwarming stories with the spirit of Christmas. ~I received a copy of this book from the author & Barbour Publishing (no monetary gain were exchanged), this is my honest review~.

I loved the cover, with its promise of a nostalgic Christmas story, so was looking forward to reading this novella provided by Christian publisher Tyndale House of two young boys being raised by their single mothers in 1950s America.

This was a follow-up to Austin’s earlier novel If I Were You, which I hadn’t read. I was thankful Austin provided plenty of background throughout, so I didn’t feel lost. And at the conclusion of The Wish Book Christmas is the first chapter from the earlier book, which described the way the two single mothers who had been friends in wartime Britain, came to be living together in the United States.

Now I’m motivated to read the first one. The story format is a twenty day countdown to Christmas, beginning with two five-year-old boys discovering a Christmas Wish Book magazine and adding all the toys featured in it to their Christmas list.

The mothers are dismayed at the greedy selfishness of their sons, and plan a strategy to teach the boys the true meaning of the holiday. The concept of gift giving and receiving those gifts we least expect and often don’t deserve is reinforced throughout the novel, as well as the notions of forgiveness and healing.

These Christian themes are introduced by the author and reiterated clearly by the mothers, as well as by some of the other characters. An additional plot element is the romance angle for both women, with a happily ever after ending.

If you’re looking for an uplifting, Christian-themed Christmas-time book that’s a quick but meaningful read, you’ll enjoy this story with a feel-good message.

Audrey Barrett and Eve Dawson, the novella’s key characters, are single mothers of Bobby and Harry, both five years old. They are also immigrants in postwar America in 1951. The narrative begins 20 days before Christmas, when the two boys come across a Christmas catalog that contains more gifts than they could possibly imagine.

They can’t wait to get home from kindergarten each day, until right before Christmas, to go through the catalog choosing every present they could possibly want. The mothers, in an effort to teach the young boys that there is more to Christmas than presents, set out to explain the true meaning of Christmas.

The story is charming and endearing. Along with rooting for the mothers, the reader can’t help but be swept up in the boy’s joy, excitement and wonder at the prospect of Christmas. The Wish Book Christmas is a novella sequel to Lynn Austin’s novel If I Were You.

Because I was unaware of this, I was occasionally perplexed when references to the preceding book were made. However, The Wish Book Christmas, with a few minor exceptions, may be read as a stand-alone story.

I will admit that I was drawn to this book by its cover and title. I was reminded of when my brother and I were kids and how we both loved the Sears Christmas Wish Book. As soon as it came in the mail I can remember that we would eagerly search the pages of this special catalog for hours at a time.

we would make our list for Santa Claus and give it to Mom and Dad. Of course we knew we wouldn’t get everything on that list and some years when times were hard we didn’t get anything on the list but I still look back on those times with fond memories.

A lot of things mentioned in this book was a part of my Christmases in my growing up years. Things like tensile and bubbling twist in light bulbs on a live tree. I found this book to be very entertaining and filled with the Spirit of Christmas.

I loved the characters and the fact that the story took place in the WWII post war years. I thought the book was an easy to read page turner. Very original and realistic. Two Mothers of Kindergarten aged boys try to teach them what Christmas really means.

Not only did they teach them but they showed the boys by the way they lived their lives. The Sears Christmas Wish Book had just arrived in the mail box and the boys spent hours pouring over the pages.

They wanted everything they seen in the catalog but their Mothers couldn’t afford to give them everything they wanted. The boys were encouraged to pick out one thing on each page and then narrow it down to one or two items and write a letter to Santa Claus with those things listed.

The mothers begin to find ways of bringing the true meaning of Christmas to the boys. Would they grasp the meaning of the holidays and that it wasn’t all about gifts and Santa Claus? I recommend this book to readers of Christian Fiction and fans of the Author.

Also to those who enjoy reading Christmas books. I read it as a stand alone and thought it was great. I borrowed a copy of this book from the library. A review was not requested. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my nephew nephew and it is super cute.

We bought this book to gives to our toddler group families as a present. We also read it in the group for our Bible Storytime. Most of the children are between 10 months and just 2 years. They really listened to the story and readily joined in with the active bits.

One mum says that her older children love it too and they are reading it to their younger siblings. We would highly recommend this active and faithful telling of the first Christmas. We have purchased the other books by Tim Thornborough and will be using them in the spring for our storytime.

We also gave a copy to our local primary school.

Throughout the book there are lines to shout and lines to whisper which I think children will love. It describes Jesus as the rescuer and king of all the world who came so that we could be friends with God so if giving to non-Christians then I think it will not seem too wierd to them.

My only tip to the publishers is that if you do another print run in the future, it might be better to use a thicker and slightly bigger font for the normal text in the book as that would make it easier for children to read along too.

I would recommend all Christian families have a copy and it is ideal as a gift.

I bought one copy for my lively, two year old grandson for Christmas. When I saw the beautiful illustrations and engaging way the wonder of the Christmas story was related, I ordered a second copy for my toddler granddaughter as well.

A wonderful compilation of Little Golden Books’ Christmas titles. As a great aunt, I highly recommend this for children. It’s a source of the books we experienced as children and with our own. The child has one source of all the great, magical stories and illustrations and doesn’t have to carry numerous books around to be read to.

It’s a good value, too. In fact, I have a copy for myself when I want to remember a magical, uncomplicated time.

I have no actual experience with the books. My granddaughter reads them to my great- grandson and he loves to ‘read’ them, too.

Many years ago, I bought a similar recordable book for my mother to read to her first great-grandchild, who lived far away. It was a stunning hit! I have just celebrated the birth of my first grandchild, and wanted something similar to send to him – this book is perfect.

It tells the Christmas story well, and was so easy to record. Just waiting, now, for Christmas, to share it with him. I commend Hallmark for making these products available for those of us separated from our loved ones by miles.

My husband and I recorded one of these Hallmark books every Christmas for our grandchildren and kept them with our Christmas decorations. They were always so excited to grab them off of the coffee table and read and listen to our voices at Christmas.

I bought these for my best friends now that they have grandchildren to start a similar tradition. Unfortunately all of our books got destroyed when we had an issue with our roof and they got wet and were unable to be restored.

We still have great memories ❤️.

We have several of these “You’re My Little. ” books and my daughter and I are obsessed. My daughter loves pulling and touching the pictures that are popping out a little from the page. It’s short and fun to read.
