Worry Less, Pray More: A Woman's Devotional Guide to Anxiety-Free Living [Book]
Worry-Free Devotional Guide for Women Offers You Calm for an Anxiety-Filled Soul This purposeful devotional guide features 180 readings and prayers designed to help alleviate your worries as you learn to live in the peace of the Almighty God, who offers calm for your anxiety-filled soul.
Inspired by this promise from God’s Word: “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.
It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life” (Philippians 4:6-7 MSG), Worry Less, Pray More reinforces the truth that with God, you can live anxiety-free every single day–whether you worry about your work, relationships, bills, the turmoil of the world, or something more.
This has been one of my favorite devotionals! It is very encouraging! I would recommend anyone who suffers with anxiety or even anxious feelings to get this book. The devotions are short so you don’t get overwhelmed by all the reading.
This book is such a blessing. There are short pages to read every day and they put your mind at ease. I purchased this during a time of great stress with Covid and this book is such a gift! I highly recommend this book.

I’ve given this book to many friends because the biblical, well-documented, sound advice has blessed me personally, and I want my friends to be blessed too! Plus, this author is great!!
The bestselling author of Love Unending and Midnight Mom Devotional reassures anxious women that even if you can’t shake off fear, your faith is not broken. For years, Christian women have been told, “If you just prayed more, had more faith, and trusted Jesus, you’d have more peace.
” But what does it mean when a Christian momma continues to worry? How does she reconcile her feelings of fear with her faith in God? And how does she raise her children in a home full of peace when she feels anything but peaceful? Becky Thompson, a best-selling author with a degree in biblical studies, knows firsthand what it is like to suffer from the crippling effects of anxiety–a condition she has struggled to overcome for most of her life.
For her and many others, the fear she faces is not a faith issue. It’s a physical one that affects over 40 million adults in the US. As Becky examines the relationship between the promise of peace in Scripture and the reality of life, motherhood, and anxiety, she brings both a practical and spiritual approach to the discussion of anxiety and how it impacts your mind, body, and spirit.
Peace meets moms in the forest of fear where they have felt isolated and alone and walks them toward hope, reminding them that there are millions of other women who walk the same dark, uncertain trails they do and there isn’t something wrong with their faith because they can’t shake the fear.
Peace is a lifeline for the Christian mom desperate for solid advice based on sound doctrine and presented in a way that makes her feel understood and far less alone on her journey toward healing.
This book is like sitting down to have coffee and a chat with a great Christian friend who is ready to speak truth to you and lead you to peace. Becky Thompson’s writing style is comfortable and inviting.
She constantly points us back to God’s truth and the perfect Peace that is within us as the Holy Spirit. Momma’s (or women) who have felt the sting of seemingly not having enough faith, or endured the sermons telling them their anxiety was a result of not trusting enough, will find comfort and reassurance in these pages.
They will learn that “anxiety does not disqualify you from being a woman full of faith. ” Becky offers tangible ways to walk in faith DESPITE our physiological symptoms, despite our psychological worries, despite the lies that tell us we are not enough or God is not enough.
This book goes a step further in helping us to find the courage to share our stories and be trail guides for other women who are still lost in the forest of fear amidst their anxiety. Each chapter closes with a prayer, a truth, and a very real step that women can take as they navigate their own anxiety or offer help to others around them.
The world needs PEACE right now. Women need the words on these pages! Becky Thompson is a “must-read” author. I have all of her books on my shelf and reach for them often. God speaks such truth through her words and her humble spirit.
She is a “real momma” in the trenches and so, so incredibly relatable. I highly recommend purchasing this book and every other one she’s written. You will feel like you’re getting a hug and whispers of advice and support from your best friend while she points you back towards your Heavenly Father.
I’ve read and loved all of Becky Thompson’s books but this one is my favorite so far. You can really see her heart in this book. I would recommend it to any woman who struggles with anxiety on any level.
I really appreciated that while this is a Christian book and a solid one at that, Becky doesn’t just recite the stereotypical church speech as pertains to anxiety (or mental disorders as a whole for that matter).
She talks a lot about the physiological reasons anxiety happens and how our hormones play a part. She discusses how our bodies are imperfect because of living in a broken world, and just like our physical bodies can break down or stop working properly, our brains can as well.
She gives practical advice on how to handle anxiety as well as spiritual. While she does acknowledge anxiety isn’t always a spiritual problem, she does address it on that level as well, because, ultimately, Becky is pointing her readers back to Jesus as the ultimate source of peace.
And that is the entire point of the book. The two chapters that stood out most to me where the chapter on the Holy Spirit and how we as Christians lack understanding of this aspect of God, and the chapter at the end about “going back into the forest” and helping other women who are struggling with a lack of peace in their lives.
I love that Becky uses solid biblical truths throughout the book; this isn’t a self-help, cure all book to end all of your problems. It’s a book that points continuously back to Jesus who is Peace. It’s full of reminders that we can’t have peace, true peace, without Him.
This book is a must for any Christian woman who lives with anxiety, and a really useful tool for anyone who knows someone in their life who struggles in this way.
I’ve been reading Becky’s books and blog for a few years now and have loved everything I’ve read, so when the opportunity arose to be a part of her launch team and read an advance copy of Peace: Hope and Healing for the Anxious Momma’s heart, I couldn’t resist.
I was hooked immediately. Becky begins the book by telling a story of the day she envisioned a woman lost in the forest, searching for a helping hand, a voice, a light, anything to help her out of the darkness.
She knew this woman (you, me, anyone searching for peace) needed someone who had been there. Someone who knew the struggle and could hold her hand. Someone who could shine a light into the darkness and call, “I’m coming for you! I hear you, and I’m on my way!” Like many others, I struggle with anxiety and depression.
“Peace” reminded me that I’m not alone; that my anxiety does not define my worth or discount my faith in Jesus. It reminded me that other Jesus-loving women have hearts who pound wildly and minds that race beyond their control.
They’ve been here too, entrenched in fear and anxiety, and they’re ready and willing to sit with us in the darkness. They’re ready to pray with us and lead us toward the light of hope and peace. God has sent them back into the forest to find us.
And He is there too. Loving us, offering us peace and hope. If you’ve ever struggled with anxiety, if you’ve ever wished for peace, for hope, this book is for you. Becky’s words are the hand you’ve been reaching for; the light in the dark you’ve needed.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book through the publisher and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My positive review is not required.

My husband and I are recently retired and with that has come anxiety for me. I have always struggled with this afflection and so I got it to do as my summer Bible study. My husband actually started reading it first and now that I have also I can tell you that this book is actually what I was looking for.
Now my husband and I have a faith based study to do together and It is exciting to be able to talk together about the study and he and I think this book is awesome. I am only 3 chapters in and I am able y feel relief.
I love being able to go to my Bible and mark it up so when and if this hits in the future I will know where to turn in the Word for calm. We have a little grandaughter who also gets anxious, I am praying I can help her (and all of the grands) learn early how and where to lean on God so she doesn’t get to 65 like me and has had a life of anxiety.
but one of peace and joy. Thank you for this wonderful book.
Written in true Lucado style, this book & study guide are written in a style everyone can enjoy. The concepts get right to the root of the problem of our population – anxiety & worry about things we as individuals have no control over.
Stressed is God that God is indeed sovereign over EVERYTHING that happens. He often allows things to happen that we just can’t understand with our finite minds. We trust & hold to His promise that He is always at our sides & indeed we will get through the toughest of storms.
This study is so appropriate for this unprecedented time in our world with the COVID19 virus pandemic. I’ve been doing the videos online but wanted the DVD for possible study in my Sunday School class later.
The study guide is a great way to delve deeper into the study. Thanks for making this all available at reduced prices right now. I always like Max’ s studies.

Anxiety is real–but it isn’t the end of your story. John Delony knows what anxiety feels like. He’s walked that dark road himself, but he found light and hope on the other side of it. Bringing together his own journey and two decades of counseling and research, he walks you through: The four biggest myths about anxiety and the life-changing truth Practical steps you can take today to start getting your life back Long-term strategies for healing to help you move forward John will show you that most of what you’ve heard about anxiety is wrong.
Things like: If you have anxiety, you’re broken and need to be fixed Anxiety is a disease that can only be cured with medicine Anxiety is caused by your genetics While mental health is complex, our culture has made anxiety into something it’s not.
It’s a signal–nothing more and nothing less. Anxiety is simply our body’s way of telling us something is wrong.
I think this is an absolutely fantastic book and I highly recommend it to anyone who is even potentially thinking they may have some issues with residual anxiety. It’s jam-packed with fresh insights, encouraging stories and a spirit of understanding and overcoming.
Well done! My only concern is that there are times when people really do need some medication to overcome serious organic anxiety issues, and we don’t in any way want to downplay the importance or needed help they may receive from such medicine.
I realize there are segments of the population reading this that may feel there is a lot of overmedicating going on, however, in recent years, I’ve personally run into many in the healthcare professions who are reluctant to offer any medical help for psychological issues, that may well end up being more easily resolved by starting medication first, and then concurrently joining into a therapy program.
But I LOVE this book and wouldn’t in any way want to deter anyone from purchasing it. It’s well worth the money and so much more beyond! I’ve personally found it very helpful. Bravo!.
I thought this was well written and a great support to handling anxiety. I loved the encouragement rather than quick words of stop being anxious or questioning a persons faith because they struggle with anxiety that is so often spoken in the christian community.
I three step by step suggestions found in the middle. My suggestion would be to consider other personality types. You went into it a little bit. In my family, my anxiety falls within the perameters mentioned in the book.
However, my sons anxiety does not seem to come from that same place. Their anxiety has a much different base. I would really like to understand them more or give them a book to help them understand themselves better and how to work with anxiety that stems from not being able to start or fear of failure.
Everyone has some anxiety, but others have more. I have seen this happen to at least one in my family. Therefore I decided to purchase a copy for each household in the family for part of their Christmas gift.
I read the book first before gifting. I think that Dr John has hit the nail on the head. He says anxiety is basically a sign that something is bothering you. It could be something that someone did to you or something that you have done.
One thing he says is to write down what is bothering you. That may make make the problem easier to deal with. I think he is right. Another thing that came through to me was sort of confronting the problem.
Then if it can be resolved that is great, but if it can’t then you have tried your best and if that isn’t good enough you may now move on. I think that may be where my one special family member may have finally come to even without gift of Dr.
John’s book. I don’t know, maybe this member has already read Dr. John’s book, but if not it will reaffirm that this person has given their best effort.

This book has helped me so much in my journey to understanding and healing from the lies we’re told about who we are as mothers. I never struggled much with anxiety before becoming a mom, but once I had my children, the stress and anxiety really ramped up.
It hit me hard after learning of my youngest daughter’s diagnosis. I never felt at peace with who I am as a mom, always thought there was more I could do, and worried over everything. I was blessed to be a part of Becky Thompson’s launch team for this book and got early access to it.
It is releasing at exactly the right moment. I have learned so much about myself, and so much about God’s design for my life and my mothering. The biggest take away I have from the book is that your anxiety does not define who you are as a believer in Christ Jesus.
You are not what you feel and there is so much PEACE you can find when you realize the enemy’s lies are just that, lies. I’m so thankful for this message God placed on Becky’s heart to share with everyone.
I highly recommend this book to any woman, especially mothers, who is suffering with ANY form of anxiety. I was diagnosed with Postpartum Anxiety after my last child was born. It was so bad that I sought medication and therapy which I believe God used to help me.
It’s been well over a year now. I started reading this book and God placed it on my heart to attempt to go off the anxiety medication. I’m not saying this book can CURE you of your anxiety, but it truly helps give insight and suggestions to truly finding PEACE while also being interesting and “hard to put down” read.
All of Beckys books are amazing. I actually stumbled across her books in the midst of my worst depression and anxiety moments last year and she was my “light” in the darkest times of my life. Then I heard about this new book and I had to read it ASAP.

– In May 2003, prominent philosopher, author, and professor J. Moreland awoke in the middle of the night to a severe panic attack. Though often anxious by temperament and upbringing, Moreland had never experienced such an incident before.
Thus began an extended battle with debilitating anxiety and depression. – More than a decade later, Moreland continues to manage his mental illness. Yet along the way he’s moved from shame and despair to vulnerability and hope.
In Finding Quiet, Moreland comes alongside fellow sufferers with encouragement and practical, hard-won advice–a distillation of the very best and most helpful things he discovered about dealing with anxiety and depression from his personal experiences and extensive research.
– According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, nearly 20 percent of Americans suffer from mental illness, and Christians are not immune. Moreland (who studied philosophy under Dallas Willard) explores the spiritual and physical aspects of mental illness, pointing readers toward sound sources of information, treatment, and recovery from both secular and Christian experts.
– Finding Quiet is perfect for: Those looking for a trusted starting point in their own research of anxiety/depression. – Christians seeking a holistic approach to healing–one that doesn’t shy from scientific knowledge but maintains a theological and biblical framework.
– Anyone in need of validation and encouragement in their struggle with mental illness.
This is a great book written by a highly intelligent man. It has practical advice on how to get through anxiety with exercises to use. It is not too scholarly like most of Moreland’s books, so it is good for anyone to read.

I was surprised at the faux leather cover, it is so soft I just want to hold it all the time. I have cried through the reading and prayer suggestions, but I am very broken emotionally. I believe tears will help me with my brokenness.
Ours is an age of anxiety. News and social media feed our fears. Even the fear of missing out leads to anxiety. The solution isn’t to rid ourselves of the sources of anxiety but to recognize that anxiety originates from a spiritual influence–and then use the weapons of power, love, and a sound mind to fight back and live in God’s peace.
Sharing her own story of emerging from the battle with anxiety as well as the stories of others, Dr. Michelle Bengtson reminds you of your identity as a follower of Christ and of the peace he promises you in spite of everything.
She provides tools to cope with the crushing emotional burden of anxiety now, and, more importantly, shows you how to reclaim God’s peace as a way of life so that you can break anxiety’s grip.
Pretty much everyone has struggled with worry, anxiety, and fear, so everyone could benefit from this book. In her first two books, Dr. Bengston addressed depression-a companion she knew intimately. Once again, Dr.
Bengston writes from the heart about something that plagues all of us-anxiety and their cohorts worry and fear. Dr. Bengston starts by explaining the difference between the three emotions of worry, anxiety, and fear.
She also explains panic and phobias. Unaddressed, each one of these emotions can negatively affect our lives. The author intersperses personal anecdotes and stories from those who suffer from worry, anxiety, and fear so that the book never sounds like a textbook.
Her engaging style makes it easy to understand both the clinical definitions of these emotions and the practical application of how deal with them. I had no idea that brain chemistry and heredity contributed to worry, anxiety, and fear.
Some people have a predisposition to these potentially crippling emotions through no fault of their own. Understanding this helps me view people with curiosity and kindness (rather than my usual impatience).
This new knowledge helps me have more patience with myself, as well. Dr. Bengston points out that, “medicines for anxiety can treat the symptoms but not the underlying causes. ” And that is where this book comes in.
According to Dr. Bengston, “While brain chemistry can impact mood and behavior, thoughts (e. g. , ‘This place isn’t safe,’ ‘I can’t handlet his anymore,’ ‘I’m overwhelmed,’ etc. ) actually impact brain chemistry.
” Based on this fact, Dr. Bengston lays out practical ways to take our thoughts captive so that we can regulate our brain chemistry and suffer less from the worry, anxiety, and fear. Each chapter ends with a prescription (actions we can take to implement the lessons from the chapter), a prayer we can personalize to help us implement the lesson, and a playlist of inspirational music with messages that reinforce the trut.
I have read Dr. Bengtson’s first 2 books, Hope Prevails and Hope Prevails Bible Study, and Breaking Anxiety’s Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises, is just as amazing and helpful. I believe that God led Michelle to write this book at the perfect time! With all of the tragic events happening in our Country, and even in our own home towns, this book is the perfect book to help us deal with worry, fear, and anxiety! Packed with Scripture and Biblical wisdom, Dr.
Michelle shows us through her own experiences how to walk through the storms of life, and the tragic events without allowing the enemy to steal our peace! She also shares the stories of several others who have dealt with worry, fear or anxiety, so there is something in this book for everyone! At the end of each chapter you will find “Your Rx,” which has questions that take you deeper into the study and scripture.
“My Prayer for You,” Dr. Bengtson has written heart-felt, beautiful prayers for her readers. “A Recommended Playlist,” Worship and Praise songs that Michelle recommends from her own personal journey.
I have taken so many notes in my journal and highlighted so many areas of the book. One of my favorite quotes from the book is near the beginning, “Trusting God means acknowledging that he is in control.
We can remain content in that knowledge rather than striving in our own strength. When we trust God, we relinquish control while telling God, I believe your way is best – whatever that may be. ” I highly recommend this book for anyone who struggles with worry, fear or anxiety! Even if you don’t, we all know someone who does, and I would suggest you get them a copy of this book! I have a family member who is suffering from anxiety right now, and I can’t wait to get a copy of this book in her hands! This is a book I will definitely be re-reading because there is so much good that I know I will miss something on the first read!.
Anxiety, stress and worry run rampant in the world today, and it affects everyone — Christians and non-Christians alike. But whereas non-believers deal with stress as a part of life or not, believers who struggle with anxiety have the added burden of appearing “faithless” if they experience any undue amount of stress.
Thankfully, this book by Christian neuropsychiatrist Dr. Michelle Bengtson focuses on the very tangible reality of anxiety in everyone’s life, but Christians should not feel ashamed or discouraged because of their own struggles with worry and fear.
Dr. Bengston writes from her own experiences and difficulties with anxiety and worry, as well as offering up her own insights as a medical and psychological professional. The author is very open in the ways she has fought sometimes losing battles with anxieties, but also points the reader to the solutions that can only be found in God.
Readers will not feel they are being lectured to to “buck up”, and not allow themselves to worry and fret; but will instead find a sympathetic and encouraging fellow pilgrim who offers to walk along with her audience and offer assistance in navigating the wild and rocky path of life.
As someone who has struggled with anxiety all of my life, I can tell you this book is most engaging and comforting. An added value is the “Your Rx” section after each chapter which offer about 3 or 4 questions to ponder on to spark more prayer and thought, as well as suggested songs to life the heart and point the sufferer back to the One who brings peace and security to the lives of His children.

I’ve already bought 10 copies to give to others. Not a book to read through and put down but one to use consistently. It works for more than anxiety.
Breath Prayers are a beautiful way to stay connected with our Lord throughout the day, whether you are anxious or thankful. I had heard of and practiced Breath Prayer before reading this book – but this book taught me so much more! the longer I practice Breath Prayer the easier and more natural it comes.
It’s becoming a natural part of my day. Thank you, Jennifer Tucker, for the gift of this book.
I’ve just started this book and so far I’ve found it remarkably helpful. It’s practical, insightful , and the authors faith is so evident in her writing. I can see buying more copies of this book for anyone going through a difficult time.
The whole concept of breath prayers is new to me and I am grateful I found it.
Overwhelmed. Stressed out. Burnt out. Fried. Many of us experience persistent anxiety. Peace can be hard to find. But it is in the middle of our stress and fear that God extends his unshakable peace to us.
In this beautiful book that is part devotional and part Bible study, Ann Swindell shares how the biblical stories of eight women and men helped her realize that what she needed most in her own journey wasn’t a stable job or healthy kids or good friends-it was God’s peace.
Through forty faith-stirring readings, Ann will help you experience God’s peace in your daily life, respond to challenges with faith rather than fear, and find hope in God’s goodness and faithfulness toward you.
The Path to Peace is for everyone who longs to experience a soul at rest.
Ann Swindell has written the most unique and intriguing devotional I have ever had the pleasure of reading! She begins the with a sort of Christian fiction portrayal of the emotions and communication of the biblical character and then she seamlessly transitions into her own life stories of God’s continual faithfulness.
Ann continually challenges your heart attitude, while giving you a hug of empathy, as she gently expresses her own humanity and God’s unwavering grace. I was so pleasantly surprised by this devotional.
I think that this is perfect for women in all stages of faith. The fictionalized verses at the beginging opens up the heart of the biblical character in a way that makes the verses come alive to someone who maybe struggles in the Word, or is not a Christian yet.
It has a soft rawness to it that allows truths to sink in and absorb before you realize it because you’re caught up in her life story, but God is there all along.
This book has been an encouragement to me! I love Ann’s way with words and the power of imagery. As she paraphrases bible stories of old, I can’t help but feel like I’m in the very room with Sarah or the others she writes about.
Ann consistently points back to truth of who God was and is and the true, lasting, sustaining peace that can be found in knowing and experiencing Him. Her vulnerability to share her own life experiences is appreciated.
Very raw and very real- I definitely walk away with a renewed sense of peace and hope walking through my own trials and circumstances. Whether you read 5 days at once or over the course of 40 days as it was designed, it will bless you to read this.
The Path to Peace is a unique devotional. It features eight Biblical characters and divides their stories into five days each. Don’t let these bite sized entries fool you though, they each pack quite a punch.
Ann does a great job of telling each character’s story and how God provided a way to peace through their trials while also using situations from her own life to illustrate a modern world example of God’s power and unwavering promise of peace through him.
This is a very manageable read for anyone, no matter how busy the season. I highly recommended this book!.

The Bible offers many verses that can help us when we’re feeling anxious or stressed. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ” This verse reminds us that we can take our anxieties and worries to God in prayer, and He will give us peace.
Other verses that can help us when we’re feeling anxious are:
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
“Do not be afraid, for I am with you” (Isaiah 41:10).
“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up” (Proverbs 12:25).
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
These verses remind us that God is in control, and that we can trust Him. They also remind us that we don’t have to carry our burdens and anxieties alone, but that we can cast them on God.
When we’re feeling anxious, we can also turn to Psalms for comfort and reassurance. Psalm 23 is a particularly comforting Psalm that reassures us of God’s care for us. Other Psalms that can help us when we’re feeling anxious are Psalm 46, Psalm 55, Psalm 73, and Psalm 91.
The Bible is full of verses that can help us when we’re feeling anxious. We can turn to God’s Word for comfort, reassurance, and strength.
