Best Channel For 5Ghz Netgear (2024 Updated)

I purchased this unit to expand a current Orbi system with two units. We have a 500m2 property and the two units provided coverage, but the WIFI was slower in parts of the home. With the third unit I have been able to place them so that the whole home receives good WIFI coverage.

Recommended system for fast WIFI over a larger area. Is reasonably expensive, but we use the WIFI every day so can justify the cost (and it keeps the kids happy).

So far so good. had used a ‘hotspot’ device (granted, with a different cell carrier), but was getting 15 mpbs at besssst on a ‘5G connection’. then I bought the Orbi and switched to a different carrier 5G plan and now I’m getting upwards of 100 mpbs pretty regularly (knock on wood!).

hopefully that continues. I do get some recurring ‘crashes’ and thus far I haven’t been able to diagnose if it’s the Orbi crashing, OR if it’s my 5G carrier signal being disrupted or something. will need some further diagnosis and possibly tech support as that definitely interferes with working from home and being stuck in video calls/meetings constantly.

So I got this mesh system to replace my router and repeater that were driving me nuts with reliability issues. This system works great! I’m getting 5g connections reliably whereas in the past, I only got that connection close to my router or repeater.

I’d say the range of these is great! Also, of note, I don’t see that the speed decreases when the signal is being received by the satellite unit. I get 120mbps five feet from the main unit, and I get that much connected to the satellite 20 feet away.

Really remarkable! Oh, and this: it works great with a tv streaming video in one part of the house while several other items are also attached with no reliability issues. This is my favorite and best wifi system I’ve ever owned and I am literally in awe that I don’t have to mess with wifi anymore – it’s done! I just want to stare at the little white cubes and admire them.

This system and experience is OK, but for the price, it should be great. The router and satellites mostly work as advertised, but they do occasionally “drop” internet service. What’s really troubling, is simple, yet necessary things such as firmware/software updates can cause the router to crash, have slow connectivity, or no connectivity.

This is the warning part. the warranty AND live (human) tech support for this product is only for 90 DAYS from date of purchase. Once that has expired, you are on your own for figuring out problems, or you have to pony up even more money(!) to get live tech support Now, for free, Netgear will guide you to their online forum/ web page for tech support, but good luck.

You must post your problem/issue, wait for a response (here’s to hoping the online tech support people know what you are asking/describing the first time), then try to figure out if that solution fixes your problem.

If that solution doesn’t work, it’s back to the drawing board and the online forum. For people that are not tech savvy, this could pose a huge problem. Also, with some of the tech support responses, you will be made to feel like you just fell off the turnip truck or that you are talking to a bunch of “homers.

” The entire tech support process is an unnecessarily drawn out, arduous process that could be made better, by talking to a live person, for FREE. The Orbi app apparently is hit or miss as well, because updates pushed through using the app can cause problems.

In summary, the price does not meet the expectations of what this product should be able to do and the support that should be given. For the price, I feel that I bought great looking sports car, with a 4 cylinder engine.

Three small boxes that now provide even coverage throughout the house for internet. Very easy to set up. The Orbi app does the work and you follow the simple instructions. Both the 5 GHz and the 2. 4GHz bans are available and everything has the same name.

If the device can connect to only the 2. 4 GHz band it will do so automatically. Coverage seems to be exactly as claimed. The only irritation was only having one Ethernet port on the main unit. Most of the routers today will have at least 4, my last one had 8.

So if you have wired connections, you will need to have a switch available to connect all of them properly. That included our network attached storage that runs in the house. You will need to plan ahead for that or be ready to buy a switch if you do not have one and expect to attach wired devices.

The app is easy to use, but runs in basic mode. You can log into the router as you would with any other Netgear router and access the advanced mode from there. Configuration changes are the same from within the control panel that way.

If you are a user, not an IT professional, the basic mode gets you setup and running very quickly. (About 15 minutes for me, an I expect anyone could follow the instructions and have about the same setup time.

) The Orbi has a free 1 month trial of their network armor product and after a couple of weeks of use, it seems to do a good job. Spam emails that passed the filters at the ISP, have been caught (these are emails with known malicious code or sites in them).

Still haven’t decided if I will start paying for that product after the trial period. For those without a security background, it will probably be worth the expense.

Bought this router at the beginning of 2022 after reviewing 25 other routers. I’ve been in the IT business for 30+ years and needed an ultra-reliable solution for my business network without having to migrate over to NOC level aspect.

The cost for this router was comparable to other high end routers. I also purchased the CM2000 Modem and discarded my ISP’s equipment due to their unreliable functionality. Unpacking and setup was very simple and all equipment appeared to be brand new with easy instructions to get started.

Changing the default login info was effortless and I was able to configure the entire process with no problems. Updating the firmware was also unproblematic and the phone app installation when well too.

Several months after the initial installation, I had some issues with the phone app. The app would not sort the list of devices connected and the reset function would not work on the app. Shortly thereafter, the phone app was updated and everything worked fine again.

A couple more months later, I ran into a few new issues with the router. First, I cannot change the QOS function. If I try to define my internet bandwidth – the router interface does not save the setting and reverts back to the “SpeedTest” setting.

Second, the “Security” says it is not enabled on the Home page of the router after logging in. Even though there is security setup on the routher and the phone app, it still says that it is “Not Enabled.

” Lasty, I am unable to turn OFF the “WPS” function and button on the router. The “LED Control Settings” just turn off the lights on the actual router device. This is not what I need. The WPS button can still be pushed and a device can be connected.

The “WPS Wizard” get to a point when it asks to input a “PIN Number” if chosen not to use the recommended “Push Button” option. If a 4-8 digit PIN is not entered, there is an error requesting that a PIN be entered.

And at this stage, nothing more can be done to disable the WPS feature on the router. So, minus the listed issues; it is a good router but I think I am going to go with the NOC network option and hopefully there will be no feature holes or discrepancies.

I bought this to replace an equivalent Linksys WiFi router that I purchased about 12 years ago (where has the time gone?!?!). It turned out that the old unit wasn’t compatible with the new remote log in set up we have at work, so I order this unit and had my wife go pick it up.

In a word – WOW! This was a brand recommended by our IT people, so I found this on sale (thanks Best Buy). Once I got it, I assembled it (you need to put the antennae on), followed the setup instructions in the box and I was in business.

A word of caution here: Netgear supplies you with a temporary router password so you can log into the router to make adjustments and get connection info. You MUST replace this with your own new password.

I discovered this during my review of available WiFi routers. It’s a minor annoyance but that’s part of living in the “digital age” people and it ensures your home network security. Once set up, the connection is astonishingly fast.

Much faster than the previous one. I downloaded a Netgear Nighthawk app on my smartphone and went from room to room checking signal strength. Nothing less than 500 Mbps anywhere. What you get yourself will depend heavily on how fast your service is and the size of your home; you may need local repeaters to ensure top speeds.

Reconnected all of our devices and smart TV (now THERE’S an oxymoron), and we were back in business again. This far exceeded my expectations and I am well pleased. I highly recommend this unit for someone looking for a quality WiFi router.

To begin: This is not a long term review as I just purchased and installed this yesterday. This is more to review the set up process and how is has been running in the brief time in which I have owned it.

Prior to purchase I did a lot of research and heard some worrisome things about the setup process using the app. Most of the negative reviews I had read which I was concerned with were with respect to the setup process, wireless range and durability.

While I cant speak to durability yet, the app was painless to use to set up my router. Given the reviews my first attempt to set up my router was to use the website but I couldn’t find the proper link and the Netgear website took me into the deathloop trying to find a proper link so I just installed the app to install and set up my router.

The app was really straight forward and my router was up and running within 20 minutes and the walk through was very easy to follow and understand. The signal strength is exactly what I was looking for.

Our house is about 3000 Sq ft and the router is set up next one exterior wall and there is signal right across the property which is approximately 10000 square ft. So far I give this item five stars.

If I run into any durability issues in the future I will edit my rating and leave more clarification with that respect.

The Orbi system has been largely disappointing. After one of my Asus routers died (from extreme environmental conditions), I sprung for the Orbi to get the improved speed/coverage, and I thought Netgear would have a good back-end without having to fiddle around with flashing custom firmware.

The initial Orbi setup was straightforward, but I had an issue with one the satellites right from the start but didn’t think much of it as most of my coverage needs at the time were being met between the router and the functioning satellite.

Now that I have additional IoT devices ranging further afield, I wanted to get the faulty satellite working. I tried factory resetting and opened a warranty case with Netgear to troubleshoot or replace, but after several weeks getting the same generic “reset the router”, “re-sync the satellite”, etc nonsense from Netgear, I’m ready to throw in the towel, because I don’t have the time for this BS.

Based on the performance of the router and functioning satellite, I think the Orbi system is very solid when it works, but if you get a lemon, return it ASAP or you will get jacked around by Netgear and not get a replacement.

The app and web-based admin portal are pretty weak, particularly if you’ve had an Asus or other router with more advanced functionality. You can revoke network access for devices but can’t allow local access without internet access.

All the parental controls and traffic monitoring require a subscription which is ridiculous. It’s fair to say that I made an ill-informed (and expensive) purchase, so I thought I’d write a review to prevent others from making the same mistake.

If you just want to set it and forget and get great coverage, this is probably a good option, but if you have any issues during the initial setup, RETURN IT IMMEDIATELY. If you want some semblance of network control without paying for a subscription, find something else.

And if you have to make a warranty claim, I hope you have better luck than me.

The Good: Wifi Speeds were amazing. Nice looking units that fit in nicely on a shelf with existing decor. Easy to do address reservations and port forwarding. The Bad: Limited Features. The router determines whether a device uses 2.

4 or 5ghz signal. Might be great for a regular user, but to me this is annoying because my new iPhone can connect to either, so the router placed it on a 2. 4 channel that yielded slower speeds and there was no way for me to change it like I can do with my old Nighthawk.

It has known compatibility issues with wireless Amcrest cameras (wish I would have known that since I have a system built around Amcrest), Satellite Signal Drops from base station constantly. I bought the system that has 3 satellites and live in a 4,000 sqft house yet they kept disconnecting.

App Issues – It took 3 hrs to get the app to work correctly to finalize setup (I have a nighthawk and am used to the app and it still gave me issues), The other issue with the App is that if you change a device name, it doesn’t translate to the Embedded UI.

Device connectivity to the satellites is an issue because when booting up the system, it seems that the router boots before the satellites thus having everything connect to the base (router). It would be nice if you could also manually move devices to the appropriate satellite, but you can’t do that.

I had a satellite in my finished basement that next to it was a smart TV and a Google Home, both of which would not connect to the satellite next to it, they connected to the router 1 level up. Very frustrating.

I read some blogs about turning signal strength down and that seemed to help, but my wifi range suffered in other areas. I have over 50 devices connected to my router between wired and wifi. I don’t think Orbi liked that many devices (35+ continuously active).

I also read about ways to get Orbi to communicate better by disabling MU-MIMO, but to me that defeats the purpose of a state of the art router. Lastly, Netgear Armor destroyed my connectivity and streaming capabilities.

In theory it was a great idea, but once I disabled it my speeds and streaming ability improved. I like Netgear products, but this one wasn’t for me. I went back to my Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000 and it performs twice as good with my devices than the Orbi did (even thought I’m comparing Wifi 5 to the Orbi Wifi 6 which doesn’t even compare speedwise).

I think my next step will be the newest Wifi 6 Nighthawk Router. My advice is to do more research before buying Orbi if you’re a power user.

I purchased this product after seeing multiple positive reviews on tech review sites. There were some negative reviews on Amazon but there are always a few. I should have listened to what they said. When the Nighthawk Mesh extender arrived, I followed the installation instructions using the Nighthawk app.

The QR code didn’t scan correctly so I did a manual install. Unfortunately I had to stop when it mentioned using the “included” Ethernet cable, which wasn’t included. I then configured it using the WPS approach but none of my devices received any signal despite the extender appearing to transmit.

On my iPhone, I kept getting a separate security certificate error message and it didn’t receive internet either. I tried to go through the reconfiguration steps several more times and then called tech support.

After being on hold for almost an hour, I was connected to someone who said I needed to speak to a specialist. I was on hold for 30 more minutes. By this point, when I checked my computer, it seemed to be receiving a signal.

I couldn’t check my phone because I was speaking on it, but the tech support person said that the error message I got was nothing to worry about and it shouldn’t appear again. But the next day, it did and I couldn’t send email from my iPhone without shutting off the nighthawk extender.

I looked online for solutions and apparently this is a common, known problem with this extender and Apple products. All of the “solutions” being suggested on the community forum involved significant admin level changes to fix and many seemed to weaken network security.

As an IT professional, I’m perfectly capable of doing complex command language level changes, but not if it compromises my network security. Consequently, I ended up returning the product. The return process seems to have gone smoothly but I’ve not seen my charge refunded yet so I’m reluctant to say that it’s too easy.

Overall, I’d recommend going with a brand other than Netgear especially if you have Apple devices that you need to connect.

Setup: -1300 SQ FT home made of Stucco (aka very hard for wireless signals to go through) -Detached Studio on back of lot converted to office. Problems: IP phone in the studio could not get a stable connection through a wireless adapter – the latency was too high for it to be stable and calls would drop, if it would connect at all.

While doing yard work – phone would lose connection to the pre-existing wireless router and switch over to using mobile data. — This router solved the problems – the satellite in the studio uses the fast backhaul link to the router and creates a VERY stable and low latency connection.

I’m able to connect a picky IP phone to it with no connection drops. Can do yard work around the house / sidewalk with no connection issues. If you are looking for easy setup – make sure you upgrade to the latest firmware before anything else.

At first: Set up the satellite and router connection in the same building to make sure there is a stable connection between satellite and router – after that you can move it as you need it and save the hassle.

—- If you are looking for enterprise level features at this price: look elsewhere – this is perfect for smaller (sub 15 people) offices. This will not replace an enterprise level Cisco wireless network, nor should it.

This is all flat network with some additional SSIDs. Worth every penny!.

Setup was reasonably straightforward. Interface was ok and configuration was easy enough (I set it up in AP mode so I could bridge my two home networks). Reception is good on the satellite unit which is in an upstairs bedroom where i have my laptops and a photo printer – this setup needed the extra bandwidth to print reliably over wifi.

This did the trick although the signal is not as strong as I had hoped – good, not excellent according to the router. The web page for the router kept on being sent to a Netgear web page over the internet rather than connecting to the router.

I tried clearing the browser cache (as suggested) but that didn’t work. Shutting down the browser and restarting it worked for some reason (as did starting a different browser and going to the web page – interface connectivity seems a bit flakey and confused.

But it is all working great and I have regained communication with the router device web page, so all is well. Many devices that are attached via wifi to the service provider wifi network (for which this is acting as an AP) show up as wired (e.

g. phones, Apple TVs, TVs, etc. )? I haven’t tried playing with many of the available options yet – letting it settle-in in working condition first. It repots much higher throughput on its Speedtest than does the one I run on my mac – same network.

With the decision to convert our very large basement into an at-home business, I needed to get reliable wireless Internet connectivity into that space. This router-satellite combo has done that nicely with no issues or installation problems.

I really like how the router gives the option of creating not one, but several functional wireless LANs, as well as a guest LAN for our business customers. Highly recommended, and at a great sale price.

Full disclosure. I purchased NETGEAR Orbi 753S from Costco not Amazon, because Costco offered 1 year of Free Technical Support not NETGEAR’s 90 Day standard Technical Support contract. After Unboxing and setting up, I already had my first call into Technical Support, as the product was not plug and play like advertised.

Many devices that use 2. 4G not 5G had issues trying to connect to system. Trying to get help from Tech. Support is impossible! After long wait times on hold (30 minutes to over 1 hour) you will hit a call center based in a foreign country, so language barriers exist and are quite prevalent.

The system seems to be very quirky, as it may work for multiple days and weeks flawlessly, but then for no reason, quite working altogether or have satellites drop in and out causing your wi-fi connected devices to stop functioning properly.

The system is set up with warning lights on the router and the satellites to warn you of issues with the system, but unfortunately ghost lights do occur according to Tech. Support, and they have no solutions to fix the issue.

Costco 1 year Technical Support is not worth the paper (Box) it is written on, because after the 90 days I have spoken with multiple technicians who want to charge you on a per call basis to fix the issue, which never really seems to get resolved.

Unless you are a programmer, or no something about programming, Technical support often leads you through going to a login, and completing multiple steps (writing code) which is supposed to fix the issues, but never does.

NETGEAR is interested in the initial sale of the Orbi, and then signing you up for a service contract after the free 90 days of support that can cost anywhere from $140 to $220. That may work for you, but when you have a product that is warranted for 1 year, try getting your product repaired or replaced for free when Technical support won’t even talk to you because you have not signed up for their service contract.

This is pure extortion on NETGEARS part because they know that they have a product that will need Technical help at some point, and if you are unwilling to pay for it, you basically have a paperweight not a router with Wi-Fi extenders.

DO NOT BUY! This issue seems to be prevelant on all NETGEAR Routers and Extenders!.

We have subscribed to Gigabit internet service for a couple of years and since my home office is the furthest distance away from the wifi router, I would struggle with much slower speeds and internet stability/connectivity issues during video calls.

I started researching mesh wifi router systems which led me to the Orbi WiFi 6 system (RBK750 series). Initially, because we live in an older home with plaster walls and other physical obstacles (i. e.

the plumbing, tile and porcelain in bathrooms all likely add some interference), the wifi mesh did help my internet reliability, but it did not help my download speeds. After two cable company visits and more research, it became clear the solution was putting a wifi mesh satellite in my home office and then using an ethernet cable to connect my laptop directly to the satellite.

Even though the signal to the satellite is still coming over the mesh wifi wirelessly, the speeds coming directly out of the satellite via the ethernet cable are VASTLY improved! Before this solution, I was averaging 100Mbps to 150Mbps and a ping of 14 to 18 (using speedtest.

net) to now averaging 500Mbps to 600Mbps and a ping of 9 to 12!! The other satellite in our system with a more direct site line to the main wifi router is averaging 800 Mbps using this same connection setup!! Now that everything is set up, it is working flawlessly and I am very happy with the results!.

This was my first wifi system ever after moving out of my parent’s house and it was easy to set up. buying it outright means I didn’t have to rent the modem/router from xfinity and it saved me some coin (14$) on my monthly payment.

Make an account with xfinity then set up the router, and you’ll connect the router to your account through the xfinity app if you have iPhone (idk for android) and after it’s on and connected to xfinity, you have to download the app for the router mention in the instruction manual, and enter the details of the router into that app as well.

then, it is ready to work. I struggled with getting the names and passwords assigned to the internets on my account, like I’d have 3 names pop up in my phone’s wifi settings, two being 5g and one being 2.

4g, and I had to be on 2. 4g to make edits to the router settings but when I’d switch from the 5g to 2. 4g (not cellular) it would throw my connection in the trash 30 seconds after I connected. so I had to work fast to delete the guest network and cement a password into the 5g setting of the router’s app.

it gave me more trouble by not having a 5g page in the app to edit at all so I had to make the guest 5g just to edit the regular 5g. it was a little bit of running around and I suggest when you set it up originally, don’t confuse your networks or passwords.

I have them cooking smoothly now and my signal doesn’t drop or fade. It’s great for my small space. big houses might want a wireless access point upgrade but dorms, apartments, small houses and it’s fine by itself but your experience may vary.

using an internet speed test from google will help you see what your signal does behind closed doors or walls and is a great free diagnostic tool. my last bit of information that I had to claw and bite for on the internet is that this WiFi Cable Modem Router is a standalone unit.

You connect it to the wall with a coax cable (xfinity gave me one but you might have to buy one) and after you have an account with your Internet Service Provider (xfinity for my area) then this box will do all the work unless you choose to add extra bits.

It is a modem, router, access point, and has 4 switched connection points onboard. It’s pretty dang space conscious and I am happy with my purchase.

Netgear really keeps the compation on their Toes. They are always developing the most up-to-date product on the market. This is why I haven’t bothered using anything else on the market. You don’t stray from a top of the industry leader to a third rank hopefully it might be good enough company.

Every time I suggest switching from what they are using to a Netgear product, they just can’t believe what a difference it has made for them. No more connectivity issues or dropping connections during the most inconvenient times, when they needed to be connected the most.

If you are having issues getting to the internet and are just feed up it all. Do yourself a huge favor and switch to Netgear, you won’t regret it in the least. But on the other hand, you live for frustration and thrive on it.

Then you shouldn’t switch. If you’re one of those people who have more money then you know what to do with and enjoy paying a monthly fee to rent from your provider, then this wouldn’t be something you would be interested in getting.

On the other hand Most all of the Major Internet Companies, support Netgear products, even suggest using them, if your tired of renting. Basically it’s a no brainer.

Well, I thought about it for awhile and then I just went ahead and bought it. I took it in to get registered at the cable store mac number registration counter and put in the time hooking and unhooking, typing in passwords, and calling, and in the end it was just incredible.

Oh! The applause we got! We did a two minute unplugged power cycle and subsequently were connected on all levels of the universe! I will save approximately $168 a year and be thankful to the online community (who we should all be thankful for) for my new dual-band connectivity.

And wouldn’t you know it, it was another funny pet video on YouTube, and I was on my way. I don’t upload, though, I’m not that sort of citizen. I like my router flexibility to be quasi-metaverse social.

I need my why-fries sizzling, if you can catch my drift. I don’t do video buffering. No more! I have tasted that cheese and it was moldy (and worst of all, unmelted. Boo!). I am not a mouse running from a hole in the wall to masticate and digest that queso.

I’d previously been using a Netgear Nighthawk wireless router and extender; however, with a growing population of home automation devices, it was time to upgrade to a mesh network. I’m using two RBS850 satellites with the RBR850 router (in AP mode) with terrific results.

Excellent video and audio streaming results, strong backhaul signals in our mid-sized tri-level home. Orbi iPhone App works really well for initial setup, basic configuration and day-to-day management.

Web app provides more advance features. Super-handy Ethernet ports on the back of each module allow a mix of wired/wireless devices and provides extender-like capabilities. I have nothing bad to say about this mesh system.

I have a main house covered in steel siding, and a detached shop/garage area 30 feet from the house. The ISP supplied router (non-Orbi) cannot penetrate the sliding out to the shop/garage area and the SSID was barely detectable in most areas of the shop.

In the house (MBPS) I got 350 on the level of the house with the router, about 100 upstairs, and zero out in the garage/shop. Drat! I purchased an Orbi AX6000 with two satellites. Installation was simple.

In the house (MBPS) I got 450 on the level of the house with the Orbi router, 450 upstairs using one of the satellites, and 217 out in the garage/shop using the second satellite (entirely satisfactory speed level compared to the former Zero).

Yes, the Orbi AX6000 was expensive but it ended all the connection issues and supplied the latest tri-speed Wi-Fi platform coupled with reliable performance. All the satellites are on the same SSID. IMHO I give it high marks toward regaining that peace-of-mind about nagging internet problems, and access for other devices et cetera.

Had my original AC3000 Orbi router unit since 2017 and it took a death nap last month. Had to buy same model again as I dont have enough play money to buy the upgraded Wifi6 set w/satellites, which is the end goal.

The unit has been surprisingly stable for 5 years but like all Netgear product, be careful when doing firmware upgrades. Otherwise it does well for all the streaming, WFH, and Smart Home use its been tasked with.

Setup, however, isnt as flawless as they promote. It’s still good using the app and such, but it took 2 attempts to get it working right. I didnt have a backup with the latest firmware (my fault) so having to re-add everything back in was a pain.

With the extender, definitely have no coverage issues. With router being in basement, I have it wired to the extender on 1st floor and have another one, wireless, on 2nd floor. Separate backhaul channel makes a difference.

Signal even carries outside for smart plugs/outlets that are used for holiday lights.

The Orbi router was easy to setup and gives great Wi-Fi coverage in our home. For those of you who believe they need to separate the 2. 4 and 5ghz bands, here is what I did for my setup. Before I did the setup of the Orbi, I created a list of items connected to my old router on the 2.

4 band and another list of what was connected on the 5ghz band. When I set up the Orbi I used the 5ghz band SID and password from the old router and then setup the guest network on the Orbi using the 2.

4 SID and password from the old router. After the Orbi setup was complete I took the lists I created from the old router and checked to see if everything connected. Everything connected including all my Ring equipment and an old wireless print server.

Over the next few days, I gradually moved everything off the guest network I created and now everything is on the one Orbi SID. Having everything on one SID will make setting up new items on the network easier instead of having separate SIDS for the 2.

4 and 5ghz bands. Love the Orbi and so far, it works great!.

Pros: This was very easy and straightforward to set up. The speed is far quicker than our normal broadband provider. We live in the countryside and expected to have issues bit the Orbi had none. At any given time, we can have atleast 8 handsets, games consoles etc connected and the Orbis did not have any problems at all.

Jot 1 child complaining that their Internet was disconnected. The design is great too and does not look put of place sitting on your furniture. Unlike other Internet providers, their routers are always black and bulky whereas the Orbis is white and contemporary in design.

Highly recommend especially if you have a busy household like mine. Cons: The only problem we found was putting the plug together, it is really hard to push it together.

What an amazing product. Years of suffering intermittant connection through the house and finally a product that spreads your broadband to every corner. No more teenagers shouting that they haven’t got signal and no more buffering on the TV.

Very easy to set up (even for a tech idiot like me), fantastic app to show its working and the boxes are stylish so fit with the decor. It might seem expensive but AO. com offer competetive prices compared to other places and it’s probably the best investment I have made for years.

Very pleased with this product. We were getting dead zones in the house. This extended and strengthened the signal in all rooms. Were also getting twice the speed now. Means the gamers in the house are happy :-).

If you are in a situation where you cannot run wiring and are in a medium/larger home that is filled with lots of walls, this is the absolute best non-commercial system you can buy. Pros: -SUPER fast speeds.

On a Fiber 1000/1000 connection and was able to get up to 850Mbps at the base router, about 600Mbps on the mesh points, all tested using an iPhone 13 Pro Max. I’ve used/tested many brands and this one is cannot be beat outside of buying a much more expensive commercial grade system.

-5Ghz dedicated backhaul ensures amazing connection between mesh points and router. Most other systems do NOT have a dedicated backhaul, meaning the mesh points connect using the same channel and frequency as Wi-Fi-devices, meaning this can create slow downs in many situations.

-This system penetrates walls better than other systems, but do not expect night and day difference either. -Simple controls and interface -Aesthetically pleasing router and mesh points that can usually blend in most places visually -2.

5G WAN port will help support faster speeds when available -House is hurricane proof with lots of concrete and and metal studded walls. This system seems to better penetrate walls vs other systems. -Simple setup.

Bridge mode or router mode offer the same performance. Cons: -Price is hard to justify for most. I did it because my house was extremely tough to connect throughout, but it was a fraction of what it would cost to wire the house with Ethernet.

-The moment you try to start doing advanced stuff, such as VLAN, IPv6, or parental controls, it becomes extremely buggy. So keep it simple with this system -Hate the cash grab they do from the subscriptions they want you to pay for extra parental controls or internet security.

It’s pretty insulting for a system of this price. -VPN Access requires some extra work -While the general interface is good, the app needs further work.

A year ago I ordered a Linksys Velop AX4200 mesh wifi system to replace my 10 year old wifi setup. Without a long diatribe – the LINKSYS system initially worked fine, but over the period of 12 months progressively degraded and malfunctioned to the point of being almost useless, making me long for my old fashioned WiFi router.

I had heard from several different sources that Orbi was a great system, and I really wanted to stay with WiFi 6 and a mesh network so I rolled the dice. Orbi has been operational now for a month and I feel that I can give some initial impressions.

Setup was pretty smooth – some strange hiccups with the app required multiple resets of the nodes and a complete reset of the base node once. It took me about an hour to sort through the setup which gave me some trepidation.

However, once setup was complete – done. It has worked flawlessly ever since. Extremely high bandwidth, great coverage, excellent performance through walls and across two stories in an old house with very dense construction materials.

I have not needed to reset Orbi (Linksys needed to be reset 1-2 times a week or it would completely shut down) since I installed it. We run multiple devices across the house simultaneously to include video streaming, multiple web applications, work computers, home security and monitoring devices, etc.

Can’t say enough good things about Orbi. Well worth the switch and deserved of it’s great reputation.

I’ve been with Google Wifi since Asus Google OnHub, and 1st and 2nd Generation Google Home Wifi, and it’s worked for me mostly, until my smart home outgrew it. The Asus Onhub was nice, I had good experience, but as my home eventually outgrew it.

I then upgraded to the 1st gen of Google Home wifi, but as more devices were added on, I would lose connection and needed to be reset consistently, then I bought the 2nd Generation to replace it, a 3 mesh node set up.

A year or so later, same thing, I needed to reset it consistently. I have 70plus devices on my home wifi, and apparantly Google Home Wifi cannot handle it. So, I tried Netgear Orbi AX6000 with 2 nodes, I hated it, after 2 days.

The mobile app was limited in functionality and appeal. Also, you are required to pay an annual subscription to Netgear Armor security. I returned it and exchanged it for this Asus Zen AX6600 XT8. It’s been excellent!!! Rich and full featured mobile app with a visually appealing interface, accessibility and control of this router is great and connectivity performance is exceptional.

I’ve increased my wifi speed and coverage at least 3x’s. I’m fortunate enough to live in the AT&T fiber area and with GigaNet, this Asus Zen AX6600 XT8 was a great quality and value purchase. No complaints and I would highly recommend.

I have 3200 SQFT home 2 stories with this mesh set on each side of the home on the main floor. It provides connectivity throughout my home with 70plus devices on my wifi – tablets, smart TV’s, gaming consoles and systems, smart phones, smart lights, smart appliances, smart cameras, and we stream youtube, youtube TV, netflix, hbomax constantly.

We use over 1TB of data monthly. Asus Zen AX6600 XT8 is the workhorse I needed. From experience, skip Google Wifi, skip Netgear, go with Asus. AIMesh is for real. I hooked up my inlaws on it with their old Asus router that happened to be compatible with another Asus router and it worked flawlessly.

Wow this Netgear Orbi Modem and Wifi Router combo is a day and night difference when compared to my 5-yr-old Netgear modem/wifi. I tried connecting the Orbi myself but unable to. I thought after speaking with my cable provider as was required in setting up this unit, everything would be fine.

Instead, I was unable to get internet from my ISP. The phone rep said they will have to send someone to check my cable outlet and connections. Luckily, someone was able to come to my house to fix it on the same day.

The electrician said he needed to tune up everything because apparently it has been more than 6 yrs since our home cable source has been checked and fine tuned. After an hour or so, the ORBI unit was sending full signal to all the wifi electronics in our house.

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve seen a full blast WiFi signal in our home or maybe not ever! It has only been a month since its installation and I’ve noticed that it always have a full blast signal.

However, I’ve also noticed that as I move further from the router (which is immediately outside our house), the signal decreases. In summary, I am glad I got this ORBI despite of its tremendously expensive price.

I actually got this last December when it was on sale at Best Buy, and I am glad I did because after the New Year its price has increased. Plus, back then, Best Buy was offering a coupon discout if I recycle an old wifi unit.

Which I did so I got a really good discount!! All in all, I highly recommend this ORBI and think that it would be a great investment for anyone who wants a reliable wifi unit. I only hope that it will work up to 5 years or more like my old wifi unit did.

I have a router and 4 satellites and I probably need a couple more for my large house with thick walls. When it works it’s great but I have a range of devices (latest Pixel phones, latest iPhones, Google Chromecast TV) that frequently get a “connected but no internet” error after physically leaving/returning to the house or turning a device off and on.

In these situations the internet is working just fine for all other connected devices. I keep having to “forget” my network on the device and set up new again. If this was one or two devices then I would figure it’s not the mesh system however it’s a frequent problem with 7+ newer devices.

I’m in SoCal and my brother in Hong Kong tells me he has the same problem and said “I wish I had told you before you bought it”. I don’t have time to spend troubleshooting and calling support. I want it to just work like the previous mesh system from a competitor.

I upgraded to this quad band system to get fast speed but it’s been a big step backwards in reliability. This new AXE11000 is too expensive to be so unreliable for me. On another note, at Amazon 20% of the reviews for this product are 1 star.

Here at the Netgear website, only 6% of reviews are 1 star. Wondering if the reviewers here are better at troubleshooting.

I have been using the Orbi 4g router for almost a year now and have to say that I love it, the security is amazing. The functionality is incredibly user friendly and the best part is I can take it anywhere in my bag with my laptop and have 4g high speed internet anywhere I go.

The user interface is very easy to manage and understand. I would recommend this 4g router over every other on the market based on my knowledge of most of the others out there solely because of how secure it actually is, and it’s useability user friendliness.

I have been repairing electronics for about 20 years now and I highly recommend this router to anyone who wants the ability to have high speed internet where you might otherwise not be able to get it, or simply because you travel and this can be used in a vehicle quite easily with only an inverter.

I use this product daily and for streaming music nonstop as well as using it for movies and tv occasionally. Highly recommend product.

I already had an Orbi RBR20 and one RBS20 satellite which was working pretty well. I wanted to add a second satellite to get a little better coverage at the far corners of my house where I have a Wi-Fi enabled sprinkler controller on an outside wall and two Wi-Fi enabled garage door openers.

Starting at the result, I got just what I was looking for namely much improved signal strength at the far points from my router. So I am very pleased. I do have to say that the Netgear Orbi RBR20/ RBS20 system can be frustrating in set up.

It’s just hard to believe how much difficulty the router can have finding the satellites. When I first set up this router system two years ago I had difficulty getting the router to locate the satellite which was sitting 25 feet away with no obstacles, walls or appliances in between.

After a dozen or so attempts I ultimately I unplugged the satellite and moved it next to the router and tried to pair them again; that worked. Then I unplugged the satellite, moved it back where I wanted it and plugged it back in.

Low and behold the router found the satellite, mission accomplished. Fast forward to this month and when I got the new satellite I tried the setup as the Orbi app instructs and had no luck. It was the same as last time.

So I moved both satellites nextto the router, reran setup and there they were. I then moved them to where I wanted them and they found each other when plugged in again; mission accomplished. The speed throughout my house including outside at the sprinkler controller and garage door openers is amazing.

Indoors I can watch shows I have recorded on distant recorders with ease. Streaming is a breeze and there are no weak spots in my network.

I bought this for a friend who had an AT&T LTE hotspot. The hotspot barely could reach 8MB download and upload was abysmal. He had it inside his house and placed it everywhere he could, but to no avail.

The AT&T hotspot also had poor in-house coverage in his 1200 square foot house once connected. I bought the AC2200 router and an additional outdoor antenna, coax, etc as we thought the issue was building penetration and antenna gain on the AT&T hotspot.

We received the AC2200 and proceded to install it with the Orbi app as instructed (took a while to download over the AT&T hotspot but we perservered). We installed the AT&T SIM into the AC2200, followed the instructions and crossed our fingers.

The AC2200 recognized the SIM and connected to the AT&T network immediately. We answered a few questions on the app and were up and running with a WiFi connection via LTE before we knew it. Using the Oribi app, one can see the “number of signal bars” that the AC2200 “sees” for signal strength from the AT&T tower.

We hadn’t installed any outdoor antenna at this point. Inside the living room, without a clear view to a window, etc, we had 2 bars of signal strength and the OOKLA speed test came back at 8MB. My friend was estatic as the AT&T modem had spotty coverage there.

I then placed the AC2200 near a window in clear “view” of the AT&T tower (there are web pages on line which show you where the towers are, what LTE bands they use, and their coverage so I knew where to “point” the AC2200).

Immediately, after a reboot, the AC2200 showed 4 bars of signal strength! We ran a few OOKLA speed tests and they consistently showed downlink speed at 50 MB or higher and uplink speed at 8 to 10 MB.

I told my friend my cable supplied internet only does a bit better. Smiles all around. We chose to not install an external antenna as the performance was outstanding without one. Kudo’s to the Netgear antenna and radio engineers (I design wireless systems and antennas for a living) for an incredible job well done.

LTE antennas have to cover a large frequency range and be small enough to fit inside the AC2200 package. Awesome performance. I would, in a heartbeat, buy this product again. (I did actually, and two of my friends neighbors have placed their orders after seeing the performance.

) You may not have the experience I had if you live far from an AT&T tower. My friend is at least 5 miles from his tower and the land is flat. I do think that using an outdoor antenna in places with poor coverage will help a bunch (put the antenna above your roofline so it can see all around).

The antenna I was going to use is a Wilson 4G Omni Plus Building Antenna (they sell on Amazon for about 50 bucks, well worth it, great antenna). We didn’t need it, but I’m keeping the antenna for another day when the AC2200 needs help and we have to install an outdoor antenna on someone else’s house.

I’m a big Netgear fan. I’ve bought a lot of Netgear products over many years and have always been a happy customer. The AC2200 is a great product, well designed, and a great performer. The best part of the whole experience this time was seeing my friend’s wife’s face light up when she said, “WE HAVE WiFi?”.

Priceless. Several days have passed and each day I get a thank you email from either my friend or his wife. BTW. The WiFi coverage of the router is incredible. They have a 1200 square foot house. The AC2200 is placed in one corner of the house (so it “sees” the AT&T antenna the best) and my friends wife’s computer room is in the opposite corner of the house.

The WiFi on her MAC shows 4 bars, and she is getting high LTE data speeds on her MAC. The AT&T hotspot would WiFi would barely cover one room when connected to LTE. Again, your mileage will vary with the LTE experience, but if you want to try an LTE connected WiFi router (and you have AT&T or one of the providers Netgear’s AC2200 has been approved for) you can do no better than the AC2200.

It may cost a little bit more than some of the others out there, believe me, it’s worth it.

I purchased this product because my previous one was also NetGear. There is no setup instruction booklet. I had to go to Nighthawk App to setup the device. Easy to do. Basically, plug in to power outlet and modem and activate.

So, I thought. The selection was on my computer for internet selection. But it would not work. On the App, there is an 800 number to call for assistance. I called the number and was told that I had to subscribe to either a 2, 3, or lifetime subscription in order to activate my internet connection.

I objected, but to no avail. After, paying them $200 and going through numerous screens, they finally activated my access. It is working fine. However, I should have been able to just plug and activate in just minutes like I did with my previous NetGear.

I am furious and thinking about unplugging the device and returning to the store. I purchased the device for ease of use. I should not have had to pay a ransom and gone through many different windows for input to activate my internet connection.

Would recommend with caveats.

This is the second wireless router I’ve ever bought: and both have been by Netgear. My previous router still works (I’ve used it for 12 years), but wanted to upgrade to a dual broadband model. Its simple to connect and my internet now runs a lot smoother.

Only thing that annoys me with recent technology is that things all are required to be setup with apps. Its aggravating to put apps on phones and feel it lacks privacy: plus for the fact its pretty discriminatory to the elderly and those with mental challenges who either do not own smartphones and/or making such products too complicated for people to setup.

Manufacturers should offer both manual and app process setup options. Other than that, the router is great, does what I want & was at a great price (costing half of what my first router was). Netgear has been proven to me to be a reliable brand of wireless routers.

I had to replace my Netgear router. The one I had was about 12+ years old. I was having trouble connecting and a tech person from Spectrum said it’s probably my router. I wanted to stick with the Netgear brand because it had done well for so many years.

I was also familiar with it. I bought this one because the price was reasonable and fit my budget. I am happy with it. I like that it comes with the Nighthawk app so I can easily see what devices are connected.

The only problem I had was connecting my Chromecast device with the router. I had to do side research on why it wasn’t working. You have to keep the same network name as the router it previously was connected to.

I had to change the name back to what my old router had. The device you buy gives you the name such as Netgear10 (two numbers are given after Netgear). It worked with Chromecast after that change.

Yes only modem itself if you chose to use third part cable modem/router instead there rental modem/router. So I had to buy only modem that compatible with Comcast business internet then bought separate router.

What a waste of time, function and energy for what. It would cost me way more then what it could be if I did not find this router. Really good price with things I needed. Just simple wireless router goes with the JUST CABLE MODEM cus unreasonable reasons from comcast.

When I first bought it about a year and half, two years ago, it worked flawlessly with Xfinity. High speed, reliable wifi. However, I recently got back from an extended leave of absence, restarted my internet and now my 5G band doesn’t work so I’m limited to about 60mbps on 2.

4G even though I’m paying Xfinity for 300mbps. I’m renting an Xfinity gateway for now and get what I’m paying for. Can’t diagnose what’s going on with my Netgear and now technical support costs $49 at least??? And you only get the nival support for the first 60-90 days or whatever??? I don’t see other manufacturers charging for technical support (that I’m aware off), not sure I’ll stick with Netgear now if that’s rays the case but that’s a different conversation.

Otherwise, it was a great product…WAS.

So the product is great but I thought it had a design flaw or poor manufacturing causing the adjustable antennas to be very loose and too floppy to stay in place. I couldn’t find any information through Netgear Support, in fact they were quite clueless so I did what anyone would do and I googled it and found many posts detailing the same problem, anyway.

HERE IS HOW TO FIX IT. It’s so easy, I could have kicked myself after spending hours trying to figure it out. When I read the solution someone posted I was afraid to try it because I thought the insides would fall inside and make it worse, not the case.

If you’re ears are floppy, do this. 1. Remove the antennas by unscrewing them from the post. 2. Tighten the posts. 3. Screw the antennas in making sure the antennas are straight so that you are turning it like a screwdriver until tight.

4. Now you can adjust them for the best performance without it going limp. I hope this helps and saves people time and aggravation. So glad I found this fix when I did because I was about to bust out the duct tape and just go buy a new one thinking it couldn’t be fixed.

So happy now.

I decided to purchase my own equipment to avoid paying a monthly rental fee to local cable and internet provider. At first, I will admit that I was skeptical and even though I had very mild connectivity concerns, they were due to my placement of the router.

I spoke with a NetGear representative and he explained in detail the reasons for placement in your home and what to avoid. His help was greatly appreciated and it made all the difference! I have had my NetGear equipment now for almost 5-6 months and could not be happier with the performance of this equipment.

Netgear scams customers to activate this device. This literally happened to me yesterday after I bought this router from my local Walmart. Holy bananas! Do NOT BUY Netgear! I repeat. DO NOT BUY NETGEAR.

They didn’t tell me I needed an activation code, they told me that I had malware on my network from my devices. None of my devices, outside of my PlayStation (which was hardwired) had ever been hooked up to this WiFi.

Brand new network, brand new modem and brand new Netgear router. I tried to problem solve this nonsense in my head, then he pitched me. Telling me that my router wouldn’t work without this program. This made zero sense to me.

I paid $100 for garbage plastic. Then he wanted another at least $120 after purchase. To clear malware from ALL of my devices. I think he thought I was born just the day before. The thing that didn’t make any sense at all was how this dude had me UNPLUG the Ethernet cord from the router and THEN said he was scanning my network 🧐🤔 In what world does this make sense? Then he told me he couldn’t help me unless I purchased this unnecessary program.

DO NOT PURCHASE NETGEAR.

I purchased this router from Netgear (the first one I ordered from Amazon and it was a router for Canada, not for the U. S. , so I had to return it and purchase a new router from Netgear after speaking to Netgear Support).

As far as the WiFi signal, this router is excellent and fast, however it wreaked havoc on my network. I consistently had problems connecting from my computers to my printers. I would reinstall the printer, delete the original, and then it would work one day, but not the next.

It no longer would allow me to connect from my laptop to my desktop computer, and 2 or 3 times a week it would rename my desktop computer saying that a computer by the same name was on already on the network (it should go without saying that I do not have another computer by the same name).

I spoke with Netgear support a number of times to deal with this, first with regular support until I was able to get it through to the person that I was supposed to have pro support. Pro support worked with me a couple of times and the router finally seemed to be working.

In spite of having purchased an extended warranty for the router, it turned out that I only had 3 months of tech support; something that was totally unclear as I thought that the extended pro warranty would come with continued support.

Fast forward and the router is now 4 months old and it is once again causing network issues with my printers and laptop. I logged in to my account to find that I was no longer able to get any tech support.

If I clicked to purchase a support contract, it would say there was nothing available. I had kept a copy of the phone number for support, which was good because it is not available through the Netgear website.

When I called the number and spoke to someone, I explained the problem, was told there was a likely solution, but that I would need to purchase a support contract, BUT, I could only purchase a contract during that first 3 months.

In other words, I’m S. O. L. and out over $400. I am beyond angry. I’m sure Netgear will continue to sell routers, as they seem to have a very good reputation for their routers, but their business model stinks! DO NOT BUY FROM NETGEAR.

Bought this back in 2019 and it’s my biggest purchase regret ever. Having purchased it to guarantee a stable connection while gaming, it’s the worst router I’ve ever owned. It always disconnects while gaming leading to being kicked out in the middle of a match.

This is while on a wired connection, on all ports, using different ethernet cables. It does tend to have issues with WiFi while streaming sometimes leading to buffering even at 1000mbps down speeds but it’s nothing compared to the dropping of connection while playing wired and is probably due to congestion during busy hours so I won’t fault the router for that, I love the WiFi 6.

When people play on a wired connection, it’s because they want a stable connection that guarantees them the best performance and this product doesn’t deliver. No, don’t respond to this review linking me to a troubleshooting page.

I’ll never recommend Netgear products and should’ve instead opted for the highly recommended ASUS routers for gaming. To think this router had all the perfect features just to fail at it’s most important job in keeping a stable connection that should never drop and run 24/7.

I don’t recommend buying this product at all. If you’re looking to even buy at this price point in the first place, you probably want or need all the features it had to offer but the pros don’t outweigh the cons of this router.
