Chalk bags are small bags that contain powdered chalk. This chalk is used to help climbers keep their hands dry, which in turn helps them to grip the rock better. Most chalk bags have a small loop on the back that can be used to clip them onto a harness or belt.
20 Best Chalk Bags For Climbing
1. Petzl Sakab Chalk Bag
The large opening and bag capacity allow both hands to easily access the chalk.
Semi-rigid sides and base provide excellent stability. Easy to use:.
Liner sewn into bottom of bag to avoid flipping it when pulling the hand out.
Handles, to transport it and to hang it at hand height.
Complete closure with roll-top, to reduce bulk and to prevent chalk from escaping during transport.
Everyone loves bouldering but no one loves spilling their chalk, well the SAKAB has you covered. It has a semi-rigid construction and wide base that helps prevent it from falling over and spilling your chalk.
It has a large opening which is large enough for both hands ton access your chalk. A magnetic roll-top closure secures your chalk safely in your bag, it also features two handles making it easy to transport and carry between climbs.
Other handy features are a brush holder, two zippered pockets for storing your essentials.
This bag has been a great addition to our bouldering trips. It is extremely easy to use and it’s magnetic closure system makes it simple to prevent chalk from spilling out of the bag when we aren’t climbing.
The external pockets on the bag make it easy to store our brushes as well. I highly recommend this product to people looking for an easy to use bag to add to their climbing excursions.
Nice bucket shape for holding chalk, the magnets at the opening are a nice touch, they make it easy to quickly throw the bag back on the mat when you’re done chalking up. The side pockets are big enough for a whole role of tape, small tube of liquid chalk, and other small things.
I’m not sure that the magnetic closure helps here – sometimes the bag will snap closed when you don’t want it to, and it doesn’t make it any more leakproof than the roll-top alone does. That being said it’s a nice size, the construction is great, and having a couple of pockets and loops is always really nice.
This will absolutely be in regular rotation at gym and crag.
Waterproof and durable chalk bag from Black Diamond. Keep your chalk handy with the Creek Chalk Bag from Black Diamond. Heavy duty Creek fabric construction gives you a robust and waterproof design with a metal belt closure for added toughness.
A zip base pocket keeps a headlamp, phone or snack handy while a draw cord closure seals your magic grip dust from the elements. A brush holder comes as standard. The Creek Chalk Bag from Black Diamond gives you a robust chalk pouch with a practical weatherproof design.
The creek is crack climbing, so the namesake chalkbag needs to be deep enough to chalk your hands. This bag is not deep enough. I can’t get my hand in much past my fingers. I am over 6’ tall. Seems nicely constructed and has zipper pocket which i like the idea of.
Please redesign so the whole hand can go in to get chalk on it. Maybe about 2” deeper. It is very hard to find a chalkbag that is deep enough for crack climbing. Unfortunately this chalkbag needs to be deeper.
The bag is good. The quality is awesome and the design is cool. Only things are that the zipper on the bag of the bags is near the bottom and the the top of the bag also I wish the pull string on the bag was near the center not the side of the bag.
Black Diamond makes quality climbing gear, and this is no exception. The chalk bag is easy to use with no special features, but no issues or holdups. If you need a chalk bag, this will do the job well.
Rock climbing chalk bag with a roll-up closure for your busy gym sessions, from Black Diamond The Mondito Chalk Pot from Black Diamond a small chalk bag thats ideal for shorter bouldering sessions. The Mondito the simpler and more basic version of Black Diamonds lauded Mondo Chalk Pot but doesnt cut back on any of its oustanding features.
The wide opening gives easy access to that white grippy goodness, and its stable design means itll stay upright even on rough surfaces. A zippered outer pocket will keep small essentials like wallets and keys safe while an external brush pocket accommodates a variety of brush sizes.
The roll-up closure means theres no need to worry about losing any of your chalk while youre clinging to the crag and ensures everything in so the Chalk Pot can be safely stashed away inside a pack or bag without covering your gear in chalk dust.
The clips make a great handle for easy transportation to the gym or easy hikes the local outdoor crags. Wherever youre bouldering, keep your chalk close to hand with this sized chalk Pot from Black Diamond.
I have pretty narrow hands and can get both hands in at once, if you have large hands you may have trouble. The pocket is just big enough for my iPhone SE with case, so could fit keys and a roll of tape etc but no really big phones.
I wish the bag was a little taller, you can only get about one full roll in and you need that to get a good seal. I feel like it would hold a lot more chalk and be about the same size rolled if it was taller.
This one does NOT have the magnetic closure like the mondo. Just a simple roll top.
This is probably my favorite chalk bucket to date. It’s the perfect size and the chalk doesn’t leak out when it’s stuffed inside my pad or in my backpack. The colors are vibrant and there is a nice inner suede lining so you don’t knick your fingers on a tough part of the interior.
DESCRIPTION The Halcon comes with all the features you’d expect in a premium chalk bag—a structured rim opening for easy access, adjustable drawstring closure, a soft fleece interior, and an elastic brush loop—and adds some very nice details.
The body-facing side of the bag features an elastic mesh pocket that’s perfect for a quick snack or energy bar and a zippered media pocket that’s designed to fit today’s larger smart phones. Dual attachment points keep the bag stable, and the included waist belt—made with tough nylon webbing—is held secure with a durable, nylon, quick-release clip.
Finally, as part of our Del Día Collection, every Halcon is one of a kind—made by employees who have creative control over its final look. FEATURES Repurposed nylon main body construction Adjustable drawcord closure Zippered cell phone pocket Elastic brush holder Soft fleece lining Double belt loops add stability Waist belt included Structured rim opening Made in the Philippines 3.

This is my second Cotopaxi chalk bag. (I gave my other one to my sister). What I love about this chalk bag are… 1. Good size of chalk bag, if you like deep pocket. It will be great for people with bigger hands.
2. A pocket can fit my phone (6. 1 inches screen) and a small wallet. 3. There is a slot for brush, my brush fit great in there. 4. The closure is great. It closes tight and no chalk leak out. What I don’t like about this chalk bag are… 1.
Choices of colors: They were just too random. I have to suck it up about the choices 2. Somehow the liner at the top (by the open), the material was kinda baggy. So, sometime it stuck to my sweaty hand when I pulled my hand out from a bag after chalking.
3. I wish the belt is a bit thicker (I kinda like thicker belt). I just changed the belt and it felt perfect when I wear it. Overall, I am happy with it. After all, it is a chalk bag. If it doesn’t leak chalk all over the place, then I think it should be a good bag.
Good: Ample room for my hand, love the colors, the belt closure is great, a couple of pockets that are seamless and don’t snag on anything, one of the pockets is zippered too. The cinching closure cord thingy is nice and tight and doesn’t slide open/let’s any chalk out.
Not so good: the cinching cord gets frayed after prolonged use, although it’s still hard to tell if it will break in the future. I’m sure its replaceable though. Not a big fan of the elastic brush holder, takes some fidgeting to get the brush in it.
The adjustment buckle on the belt handles well, but if you puff out your stomach it will let some of the belt out. Overall: despite some minor “not so goods” this is still the best chalk bag I’ve ever owned.
Great functionality, light weight, the features that I need are all there. Cool detail: the bottom says “DO GOOD. ”.
So I’ve been using my Halcon Del Dia regularly for about 6 months now, and it’s easily the best chalk bag I’ve ever had. The quality is great, the features are well designed, and the overall usability of the product is high.
A few random comments: – Fantastic quality/stitching on par with all the Del Dia products; the Philippines factory produces some really quality stuff and you can tell just looking at the bag that it’s gonna last a lot of routes.
– Really great overall shape. With chalk and time it morphs from the very cylindrical shape pictured to a softer, more rounded shape that is very pleasant. It’s rigid only where it needs to be. – The waist strap is held on by two nylon loops that make it really secure (less swinging side to side) but also impossible to remove the strap.
Happily they can be coiled/knotted up neatly for those that prefer to clip the bag straight to the harness. If I had to levy a complaint against the bag, it’s that I can’t remove the waist strap, but in practice it’s not actually a concern for me.
If you *know* you’ll never want the strap, you can always cut it off without harming any other part of the bag. – Some people complain that the main opening is small. I find it to be medium, it’s actually larger than most other chalk bags I’ve had, but I have medium sized hands for a male.
If you are a big guy with big hands, this might be a little small for you. – The pockets are EXCELLENT! The zippered pocket is the perfect size for modern electronics (which are ironically getting bigger and bigger these days), and the mesh pocket is similarly sizable and has a very snug elastic top that prevents things from falling out, without restricting ease of access.
– The elastic loop for a brush is a great addition. It’s a little snug and requires two hands to insert my brush, but A. elastic loosens with time and I’d hate for it to start perfect but then get too loose to be useful, and B.
you should have both hands free when you are cleaning a route anyway, if you don’t, just throw it in the pocket. – The big “DO GOOD. ” print on the bottom of the bag is super cute and you may not think much of it until you belay somebody with your chalk bag, as the bold lettering stares down at your belayer the whole route! This is a great standard chalk bag.
It’s got every feature you want on a chalk bag: an elastic pocket, a zipper pocket, a brush loop, and quality construction, what more does a chalk bag need? Highly recommended for any climber that doesn’t have especially large hands.
Ultimate chalk bag with a magnetic closure for your busy gym sessions, and still perfect for a day at the crag. The Mondo Chalk Pot from Black Diamond a large chalk bag thats ideal for any bouldering session.
The large capacity and wide opening give easy access to that white grippy goodness, and its stable design means itll stay upright even on rough surfaces. A zippered outer pocket will keep small essentials like wallets and keys safe, while external brush pockets accommodate a variety of brush sizes.
The magnetic closure means theres no need to worry about losing any of your chalk while youre clinging to the crag. The roll-top seal keeps everything in so the Chalk Pot can be safely stashed away inside a pack or bag without covering your gear in chalk dust.
The clips make a great handle for easy transportation to the gym or easy hikes the local outdoor crags. Wherever youre bouldering, keep your chalk close to hand with this generously sized chalk Pot from Black Diamond.
Please Note The Repo colourway built from repurposed fabric scraps from the Black Diamond sewing factory and therefore comes in assorted colours – it may not look as pictured.
Bought this a couple weeks ago and it has been great for every bouldering session I have used it for since. Lots of room for both hands inside and the pockets are great for a phone or keys. Roll top closure keeps chalk from spilling inside a backpack.
Great overall chalk pot for any kind of bouldering and I would totally buy it again.
The bag is good. The size and shape are about right. Not too big and the rectangular shape fits anywhere. Both hands fit in well. So far, the bag stays open just enough to get a hand inside. If it tips, the magnets snap shut right away.
You can not do better. It is noticeable that BD engineers and designers are testing themselves the products they create. Everything is functional, the magnets to keep the chalk in while you climb, the tabs to open it easily, the wrap seal to avoid spilling in your luggage, the zipper pockets for your tape and liquid chalk.
The competition should take notes, this is how you design something.
Chalk bag with round shape from Petzl The BANDI chalk bag has a round shape with a large opening to accommodate the entire hand. The soft fabric wont cause discomfort when wearing a pack or when your back against a rock wall.
A practical closure system with drawstring and cordlock keeps your chalk exactly where you need it to be. The Bandi chalk bag can be opened with only one hand should you forget to open it before you start climbing.
I was looking for a chalk bag that was simple and big enough to comfortably fit a chalk ball. This bag works for that so I’m pretty satisfied. It’s about as simple as they come but it works great and seems to be good quality.
Everyone needs a chalk bag, so why not make yours a stylish one made out of leftover materials from making harnesses. It features high-quality metal buckles which can be directly attached to a Mammut Sender harness if you have one of them.
Ideal for chalking up whilst bouldering, sport climbing, trad climbing and deep water soloing.
Power Crunch chunky chalk improves grip when climbing. It is available in two sizes of packets to suit the climber’s needs, the 100g packet fills one chalkbag and leaves a little extra, the 200g packet can be stored for refills.
Can’t say I’m a chalk expert and probably can’t tell the difference between different brands of chalk, but the Petzl Power Crunch is doing its job of keeping my (sweaty) fingers dry while climbing. Would buy again.
This chalk is awesome! I immediately noticed a difference from the last brand I was using and sent my projects at the gym. I have sweaty hands and this stuff keeps them dry longer. I don’t have to chalk up as often and don’t feel the holds get slimy.
A bomber, well-built essential piece of gear. With a dropped cinch closure and large widemouth opening, this chalk bag allows you to easily chalk up while on the ground or halfway to the sharp end. A soft internal fleece lining means chalk stays inside the bag instead of falling out and all over your gear.
Overall quality is nice. Cloth feels nice inside, drawstring works and feels exactly like their backpacks. The loop on the side is nice to attach to a carabiner. I only wish for the strap/clip thing to be easier to remove without applying too much force (unless im doing something wrong idk).
Love this chalk bag! As always, I expected a high quality product from Topo and they delivered. What surprised me was the size of the chalk bag. On the product images I was a little worried that this would be a smaller bag than I used to have.
but when it came I was happy with the size. I used to have a BD Mojo chalk bag and I would say this is a very similar size to that. Would recommend for sure!.
This chalk bag is solid: well built; great design; awesome colors; holds chalk, if that weren’t obvious already. It also happened to be my gateway drug into Topo products. I got the bag because I needed a new one and was thoroughly impressed.
I thought if they cared so much about the smallest details of a utilitarian bag that holds chalk, then surely all their products must be amazing. And I was correct.
Get your chalk belt and bag solution in one package with the prAna Geo Chalk Bag with Belt. Double belt loops keep it stable while you climb, a drawcord closure prevents spilling, and an elastic brush holder helps you keep the rock grippy.
Adjustable drawcord closure, Fleece lining, Double belt loops for stability. 100% Polyester.
I generally love all pranas products. I’ve had this chalk bag for a couple years and it’s a solid choice. I really like the soft material and it’s a perfect size. Not too big and not too small. My only gripe with it is it’s hard to close all the way.
I often have to reopen it one or two times and close it again before it shuts all the way. Kind of makes for a messy bag. Could just be a problem with mine alone though.
The drawstring is great, as the bag seals shut tightly and stays that way. I use a Metolius Eco Ball chalk sock in congruence with this product and I’m very happy with the performance of both. There is plenty of room for my chalk sock and so I can stick my hand in to apply it.
I compared this product to a couple of other bags that were available and found that this one closed tighter than the others. The less expensive chalk bags had left a small opening when I attempted to close them.
The drawstring is simple technology and very utilitarian. However, I can’t speak for the belt in terms of climbing. I just use this product to keep my chalk sock from getting all my things dusty, mainly for barbell training or even just to chalk my hands for work.
If you are looking for a casual chalk bag, look no further. This one is it. Pretty sure if I was climbing too, I wouldn’t hesitate using this bag.
Description This redesigned rock climbing chalk bag has a soft fleece lining and an improved closure mouth to retain chalk, was added front zipper pocket to keep your small items. Prevent sweaty hands so you can climb longer and harder than ever.
The pouch easily attaches to your harness with available loops, or use the adjustable clip / strap to secure it around your waist. The greatest perk of this bag is that it is compact and light enough to bring it up on your climb, yet it has a wide opening design to fit larger hands.
Guys, stop struggling to chalk up mid-route! Exceptional for both indoor and outdoor climbing.
I went to the store and everything was at least $20 or over, and I have already ordered this so I was just waiting to arrive! And it did and I am super happy I didn’t spend more because this bag is small, light, straps are closing perfectly! Best value ever! Couldn’t be happier!.
No complaints. It fits my hand well and works well for what I do. I’m not a hard-core gamer or doing highly intricate work, so 1600 DPI is fine for me. Bought two, then came back and bought 3 more for friends.
This sturdy rock climbing chalk bag has a soft fleece lining and an adjustable drawstring mouth to retain chalk. Prevent sweaty hands so you can climb longer and harder than ever. The pouch easily attaches to your harness with available loops, or use the adjustable clip strap to secure it around your waist.

Specs Waterproof Exterior Size 6. 2 height x 4. 3diameter Package Includes 1 x Rock Climbing Chalk Bags1 x Waist Belt Strap.
Comes with rear zip for storage of keys, phone or finger tape. Will fit most phones including iPhone 6. Stylish colours and design with large opening to make chalking up as easy as possible. Waist strap included.
Brilliant chalk bucket! Nice and big with decent top opening. A few suggestions for future models to make it perfect are (1) a more ergonomic handle, (2) bigger back pocket to accommodate a bigger smartphone AND wallet AND keys, & (3) a dedicated carabiner loop to clip it to a day-pack or crash-pad for outdoor bouldering sessions.
Generally speaking, though, these are really minor gripes and i only mention them to refine an already decent product!.
Drawstring is awful and keeps getting stuck. My brother broke his after a short time and bought a different one. Useful that it comes with a brush and chalk ball though. Many people have this chalk bag so make sure you stick a badge on it or something so you can identify yours from everyone else’s!.
Wide stable based Bouldering Chalk Bucket. Comes with front and rear storage for tape, brushes and any other essentials. Large toggle fasten opening to make chalking up as easy as possible. Popper-stud closer to further reduce spillage.
Do you have a bunch of chalk you don’t know what to do with? Do you try to take chalk with you on the go and nothing to put it in? Causing you to make messes and causing a bunch of unnecessary stress? Well look no further.
The Black Diamond Mojo Chalk bag solves that problem. Take chalk, put in bag. Its that simple. Again take chalk, take Black Diamond Mojo Chalk Bag and boom, chalk bag, your worries are over. The Black Diamond Chalk Bag holds chalk the way Khabib holds Connor, tight.
All black diamond products are always such high quality, and this bag is no exception. I think my favorite part is the texture. I am 5’5″ and 120 lbs, but I have pretty large hands and long fingers- so I was worried that the small size would be too tiny- but my hands easily slide into the bag with room to spare, and the bag is small enough where it doesn’t get annoying while you climb.
Excellent chalk bag, simple, light, useful. Have tried a couple other chalk bags and find the BD Mojo Zip to be the favorite. I like the zip pocket to carry a small climbing knife for sling and rope emergency scenarios.
It’s held up to a ton of abuse and still functions well.
The Organic Climbing Chalk Bag is a uniquely designed high-quality chalk bag with a fleece lined interior and sturdy rim, perfect for any climber looking to stand out. Featuring a belt, belt loop and brush holder, the Organic Chalk Bag comes with all the quality features you would expect from a performance chalk bag while helping you stand out from the crowd.
It comes in both small and large sizes to accommodate different sized hands and different amounts of chalk.
When I first got this chalk bag, I thought it was too big (I was planning to use it for lead climbing. ) I was proven wrong the moment I put my harness on. This is a light, comfortable chalk bag with more than enough room (I use it with a Metolius chalk sock) for my chalk.
The design is amazing (I got black, ice blue, and white with the logo that says organic three times), with a easy to use closing tool and soft lining. While the logo is relatively large, the font and colors work really well to it actually adds to the quality of the chalk bag.
The bag, as they say on their website, is also made from scraps from their climbing mats, so it is an environmentally friendly option.
This was my first Organics chalk back and I was stoked to get it. Maybe I should have known this but when it says assorted colors does that mean it could be any any color combo? Anyways, thought I was ordering one that matched the picture but instead got a red, white, and blue one which is too patriotic for my taste.
But I’m excited for when I get one in the right colors.
The medium size chalk bag Cylinder from Climbing Technology offers a round shape and a large opening to ensure a comfortable fit of the hand. It is also made of resistent fabric that maximizes its life.

A must for each and every one of or climbs – the Togir Chalk Bag from Mammut! This simple chalk bag boasts a super-stretchy Spandex outer that is extremely tough, so it’s perfectly capable of withstanding contact with rock.
The opening is stiff to make easy to reapply chalk. On the interior, there is a soft fleece to ensure that the chalk is distributed evenly on your hands. The drawstring seals up the chalk bag nicely.
Of course, the chalk bag wouldn’t be complete without a waist belt and a brush holder. The Mammut Togir Chalk Bag has everything you could possibly want in a chalk bag!.
This is my first purchase of a chalk bag and I have no complaints. It seals up very well with the drawstring and easily attaches to your gear loops with a carabiner. I chose to remove the waist strap and hook it on a carabiner.

Reviews From Real Customers
Picked up this chalk bag when I needed a new one for the gym with a pocket big enough to stick my phone in (12 pro max just fits in the zippered pocket of the large bag) and the unique closure mechanism seemed like a plus if you ever forget to open your chalk bag before getting halfway up a wall.
Having used it a few times now I can certainly say that the closure mechanism is great! I did have to read comments and reviews to figure out how it worked, but having used it a few times now I’m a big fan.
Even opening it one handed on a wall was very easy. Outside of gym use, I’d say even the Large bag is on the smaller size. So don’t expect it to carry a lot of chalk. If you have bigger hands it may even feel a little cramped.
Additionally, as other comments note you can’t easily remove the webbing, which lacks any kind of keeper for the tail. The loops on the chalk bag are also very small, so tying it with your own webbing is kind of a pain.
They really don’t want you to separate the bag and the belt. Overall? It’s pricy, but if you want a chalk bag with a unique closure mechanism for the gym, this dead bird isn’t too bad. Anything more and your money is probably better spent elsewhere.
This guy has been with me for about four years, until I lost it recently on a multipitch’s bushwhacking descent (must have snagged on tree somewhere as it was on the outside of my pack, my bad. ). While it’s not perfect, it’s what I want in a chalk bag.
The main advantage of this bag in my mind is the plastic rim that makes the opening rigid and- in the case of the C80 over the C40- large. I have bigger hands so the extra opening size is great. As mentioned in other reviews, the plastic bit at the end of the drawstring fell off years ago but a small fisherman’s knot has worked fine since and I can still close the opening all the way.
The brush holder is a little narrow, so you just have to choose brushes accordingly. Would be nice if it was somewhat stretchy, thereby accommodating more brushes. As for other reviews that complain about the way the belt attaches to the bag not allowing for carabiner clipping- doesn’t matter.
Despite many doing just that, chalk bags aren’t meant to be clipped to your harness with a biner so that isn’t a design fault. Overall- good but not perfect. For what matters (dipping your hand in the bag easily) it is the best I’ve tried.
It costs a bit much, but it’s Arc-Teryx so what do you expect? Plus I got four years out of it- so take the price and divide by four years. Not bad on a per year basis. I’ll probably get another to replace my lost companion.
I’ve spent 6 days climbing with it now and have some feedback. Hopefully it helps someone 🙂 PRO – Really nice wide mouth. It stays open and it’s very easy to locate especially when you’re pumped and really need a quick dip – It’s lightweight but feels durable.
I like the slick material around the opening as it doesn’t get all crusty with chalk. After the draw closure the pouch is a soft chalk loving fabric which make chalking up a little easier – aesthetically it’s quite nice 🙂 CON – the closure is not great.
Even after breaking in it doesn’t close all the way and you really have to yank on it. It feels like it may be the first thing to go on the bag. Be prepared for a very fine stream of chalk even when it’s tightly closed.
This is a huge design flaw and pretty unforgivable imho – The zipper pocket is on the back of the bag. This is dumb. Forget about getting anything out easily while on a multipitch, plus it’s tiny, not even big enough for a clif bar.
It’ll fit a credit card or a small mutiltool, that’s about it – The chalk pocket isn’t very big. True, the bag itself is pretty large but about 1/3 of it is the opening then it tapers down. It’s still easy to get my big hands in there but it doesn’t hold enough chalk for me.
You’ll get a couple of days of solid climbing out of it without refilling but this isn’t a multi day big wall pouch – The ‘bottle opener’ belt holder feels like it was designed by a frat boy having a laugh.
For a start, if you’re taking glass bottles to the crag you’re a tool. Enjoy a few send beers by all means but cans are so much better for weight not to mention ease of packing out trash. I’m so tired of seeing smashed glass at my local crags and I feel like the opener on this chalk bag is juvenile and borderline irresponsible.
now, after that rant my actual problem with it is that it’s solid rigid plastic, your options for threading a different belt are very limited. If you like to hang it off a biner it tends to sit a bit low for my taste plus it tends to fall to the side as there is no centering ability.
I wish they’d have simply have put two fabric belt loops like every other well designed bag. OVERALL Despite the lengthy cons I do actually like this bag. It’s not perfect by any means but it’s a good gym or day at the crag bag.
Look elsewhere for serious multi-day projecting or big wall needs though. Also, only buy if it’s on sale, It’s simply not worth the premium price. I’d recommend, but only if the friend fully understood the drawbacks.
Chalk bags are an essential piece of gear for climbers. They help keep your hands dry and provide a place to store your chalk so you can have it ready when you need it. Chalk bags come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and you can find one to fit your climbing style.
