A budget spotting scope for target shooting is a spotting scope that is specifically designed for target shooting. It is typically a lower-powered scope that is used to help the shooter see their target more clearly.
The 25-125×88 WP Benchmark Spotting Scope features a straight eyepiece system and wide zoom range to see objects in greater detail. The fully coated Porro lenses maximize light transmission and offer bright, clear, high contrast views in all types of lighting and weather conditions.
The Dynamic Objective Focusing System (DFS) is engineered with an innovative waterproof system and can be activated by turning the Objective Lens, allowing the viewer to increase magnification. This scope comes O-Ring sealed for 100% waterproof and is nitrogen-purged for increased fogproof protection.
The Benchmark Spotting Scope is convenient and portable with a sleek go-anywhere compact body, while the rubber armor cover protects it from the harshest elements. Included with purchase is the Accu-grip handheld tripod mount which can be used with spotting scopes, binoculars, video and photo cameras that are tripod adaptable.
The Accu-grip can also be added to a tripod for an added extension and grip. Designed to provide an extreme and comprehensive level of spotting pleasure to both shooters and all types of nature explorers.
The Benchmark is very nice scope. It is a little big, though not heavy. It is very easy to use. It has good, clear optics overall. It can zoom really far. However, The Field of view is relatively small as you go further out.
The Dynamic Focus wheel (which is a Macro + Micro all-in-one-focus) does take some getting used to. You really need to tweak it just right at times, especially at very long distances like 1,000 yards +.
Otherwise, you hardly have to zoom in and still have nice clear Images. Of course, it works best with a Tripod.
Some reviews have mentioned trouble focusing this scope at high power. I haven’t had that issue. Just follow the directions and acquire the target at lower power, focus in, and then zoom in and refocus.
Repeat this process on your way to full power and you’ll be fine. Moving targets are difficult to keep in frame and focus on at high power, but that should be obvious and is true of any scope. I’ve used mine to look at the moon and the details you can see are incredible- shadows on craters and everything.
The tripod it comes with is cheap junk. I have not allowed the scope to get wet, but supposedly it’s waterproof. Seems like it should be fine in a light rain, but I wouldn’t submerge it or even leave it out in a downpour.
Get yourself a decent quality tripod, follow the instructions, and you’ll find this scope works great!.
I must qualify myself as being an amateur photographer and a longtime lover of the shooting sports. I have long loved and used Nikon products for photography. I have taken this scope to the shooting range a couple of times.
It takes some time to focus in at the higher powers because you focus it just like a SLR camera. The focus ring seems stiff and makes it hard to quick focus. Also a really good tripod would be a plus to make viewing at higher power a bit more steady.
The little one that comes with the scope is barely suitable. The scope wants to fall over as the setup is not well balanced. Also I noticed some small imperfections in the glass. At first I thought it might be mold but later concluded it had to be from manufacturing.
The glass quality is not Nikon by any means, but is plenty good for the shooting range. However if I was taking a scope to Montana, Colorado or Alaska on a hunt, I’d get a much more expensive model. For the shooting range, once focused on a distant target this works great for me.
It saves me from those long walks to see how well I shot. I have used it at 100+ yards with the shoot N-C targets and it worked well. Plus the wife gets to use it for observing her birds and small animals.
In summary, this is a good range scope but not suitable for hunting as the glass quality and difficulty in focusing will frustrate the user.

Like most people mention the tri pod isn’t great but it’s alright for what the package costs. The scope is a definite value, from almost 5 miles away I could spot a bull elk from a cow elk against the snow couldn’t count points but damn that’s a long ways away.
Could count points on deer from almost 1 mile away against the snow. For around $100 this is a real deal.
I haven’t used many spotting scopes. But where many options are hundreds of dollars and I’m thrifty I wanted something sub $100. This seemed to have the best reviews under $100 so I gave it a try. I got done with my 1st range day with it and I’m happy to report it’s well worth the money.
It’s extremely clear and bright and the magnification is plenty. I got an adapter to put my phone on the eyepiece. Zoomed in to 60x looking at a target at 100 yards the paper fills most of the view and you can clearly see the holes and fine details.
The tripod it comes with is much smaller/shorter than it looks in the photos but I suppose it would work. I used a normal camera tripod I had laying around since the scope takes a normal 1/4″ tripod stud.
The Hawk spotting scope camera is the next evolution of digiscoping, it turns any camera spotting scope into a smart scope in just minutes. Simply slide the hawk over the eyepiece of the spotting scope and open the TargetVision app on a smartphone or tablet to view the video camera feed and unlock all of the app features (track and number shots, save photos, review sessions, record video and stills).
– Delivery was very fast: I am living in France but I could receive my camera within 4 days. My single concern on this topic: UPS made me pay twice the taxes, the first one when I chose the option “UPS Express Duties & Taxes included” on the Longshot website, the second one when I received the scope at home.
This issue is only on UPS, but I suggest to European customers not to chose this option including duties & taxes. – The camera by itself: everything runs as expected. The wifi spot included in the camera takes some time to operate – 3 to 5 minutes in my case – and sometimes stalls down a few minutes later.
The image is really clear, be it displayed on an ipad or an iphone. – Note that, for the moment, I prefer to use my camera located near targets – I bought this scope camera for shooting indoors at 25 m – rather than placed on my scope.
The main reason is that my tripod is not stable enough to support the scope and the camera together.
The Halk camera and the app do what they claim and its a big improvment over just looking through a spotting scope or walking back and foth to the target. But like a lot of tech purchases what one imagines is rarely what we get.
What could be better is the video and picture quality it works could be better. The app functions “flash, shot marking and group measure ” could be automated but are manual. Sill better than the the old way not quite what I imagined.
My guess is that it could be better not sure i would have been willing to pay what that that product would have cost. For the price point it is a good product and i will enjoy using it. That is if ammo ever becomes available again.
What an awesome product. Am using on a Leica spotting scope. I can imagine the image quality is dependent upon the scope being used. I do have some questions about the app. It would be great to be able to “name” the screenshots or pictures.
We have a busy range so is nice to put a target out and keep using it for multiple people/”sessions”. If we could name them, “6. 5 PRC 1”, “. 243 ladder green” etc. , then it would save some steps to the targets.
Take your spotting vision at the shooting range or in the field to the next level with the Athlon Optics Talos 20-60×80 Spotting Scope. This hunting spotter scope is waterproof, fog-proof, and shockproof to give results on images that have great contrast, sharpness, and color definition.
The K9 glass prisms provide an image that is bright by reflecting great amounts of light to your eyes. Combined with the multi-coated layering, you’ll have a better light transmission that will help bring optimum brightness.
Take this Talos scope out to observe the surrounding nature in any condition. The fog-proof construction will keep your images crisp and clean through it all. Whether you’re birdwatching or stargazing, set up the included tripod for steady viewing.
The rotating ring will ensure you have the most comfortable and easy-going angle while out enjoying the views. For precision viewing and high-quality images, you won’t find a better spotting scope than the Athlon Optics Talos 20-60×80 Spotting Scope.
Glass is clear. Adjustment is easy. Can find focus quickly. Scope is heavy and appears to be well built. The case is very nice and should protect the optic well. Not particularly thrilled with the tripod, but it is typical of spotters at this price point.
The option to swivel the eyepiece to allow viewing from various angles is a plus. At this time, I am pleased with this purchase.
I was skeptical when I purchased this product because I am used to purchasing Nikon, Burris, and Vortex optics and wasn’t familiar with Athlon Optics. Skepticism squashed when I mounted it on the tripod and looked through it.
Excellent quality spotting scope at a great price! For use sighting in my rifles at 400 yards, I won’t have to walk down to the targets anymore to see if I hit them. It’s that clear! Two thumbs up from this guy!.
Great for the price. I have not gotten it wet yet or too dusty but there is a fairly good field of view at 1000yd, with good detail and low chromatic aberration. Yes, there are better scopes, but for the money you get a bright, clear scope that is also lightweight because it’s not heavy-duty.
I purchased this scope for use at the range to sight in a rifle without having to walk halfway to the target every three shots to make adjustments. I didn’t have great expectations because of the low price, but then I didn’t have great needs either.
I was pleasantly surprised at the clarity and distance it provided. It was crystal clear at 100 yards and functional out to 300 yards easily for spotting holes in paper. I suspect (but did not try it) that you wouldn’t have any trouble doubling that distance with the neon colored reactive targets.
Good: It is exactly what it looks like in the picture plus lens caps and wipe cloth. It comes in a small box that fits in a shooting bag with no problem (I hot glued some thin foam inside the box for a little padding.
The tripod mount works, stay on target, and keeps the picture steady on the target. It adjusts easily. I have never used a spotting scope and I still haven’t read the directions on this one. Nice clear lenses, rubberized coating on the body and cheaper than filing up the car.
I love the thing. Bad: My only complaint is that the lens caps won’t stay on it. I added a rubber band to hold them on and pulled over the top of the lens cap and around the body of the scope. Problem solved (although it looks a little hillbilly).
It is also a little wobbly if you bump it, but you can tell that from the picture. Obviously, you need a bench to set it on unless you are lying prone but the tripod screws in and I’m sure you could adapt a taller tripod if desired.
I’ll start by saying this is a very nice scope and every bit worth the selling price. The optics are very easy to adjust, it has a nice solid body and protective coating and the lenses are very clear.
I like it VERY much and it even comes with a carry bag with shoulder strap. I would buy it again, if I hadn’t bought it already. The only downside is the tripod. It is basically a POS. There is a VERY weak cross section of material where the scope mount base plate transitions into the hinge.
If you look at the picture of the scope on tripod, you can see that area just in front of the hinge pin cap. You guessed it. It snapped far too easily from just trying to adjust the scope to a level position.
This is not really important to me as I will be using a camera tripod anyway. I like having the option of placing it either on a range table or setting it up on the floor, which requires extendable legs.
Basically, don’t be afraid to buy this scope, it is well worth the money. Then go ahead a buy a used camera tripod for a very versatile set up. Used tripods sell all day long for under $20!.
The small tripod it ships with is not very useful, but mounts to standard camera tripod, which is what I use for it. Can easily see. 22 size bullet holes on target at 100 yards for zero and target practice purposes.
if you are looking for range visibility beyond 150 yards, especially with. 22 size ammo, not the best choice. But since I rarely shoot much further than that, it’s perfect.
The 45° angled-viewing TrailSeeker 100 22-67×100 Spotting Scope by Celestron features a versatile 22-67x zoom eyepiece to provide views from generous vistas at the lower power to tight, detailed images at the higher end.
The 100mm objective lens possesses light-gathering capability superior to that of scopes with smaller lenses, which makes for a bright image and enhances the scope’s capabilities in low-light conditions.
Proprietary anti-reflection XLT fully multi-coated optics allow for efficient light transmission through the optical path for crisp, high-contrast views. The angled eyepiece permits comfortable glassing whether standing, sitting or lying flat on the ground.
Dual focus offers precise image control by allowing a preliminary coarse focus, which you can then refine using the fine-focus control for a tack-sharp view. You can rotate the scope a full 360° for easy viewing through the eyepiece from any position.
The TrailSeeker 100 has a nitrogen-filled waterproof housing that won’t fog up in humid conditions and features a sliding sunshade to keep glare or raindrops off the objective lens. To facilitate digiscoping, a T-adapter is included so you can mount a T-ring compatible with your DSLR to the eyepiece.
For adverse weather conditions, a stay-on carrying case is included that can be left on the scope during use—zippers fore and aft open for the objective lens and the eyepiece. The TrailSeeker is designed to use standard 1.
25″ astronomical eyepieces, so in addition to the included zoom eyepiece, you can use other eyepieces on your spotting scope to achieve higher magnifications, wider fields of view, etc. A tripod balance plate is also included.
Excellent glass for the money. Bright and clear, with good color definition. Tight controls. Heavy, but quality construction. Better than other scopes in it’s class, and outperforms many more expensive optics.
Of course it’s not a Swarovski, but it’s also not priced like one either. I would recommend this for anyone wanting a quality optic that won’t empty your bank account.

So, since I’ve owned this spotting scope for a mere 2 days, I can say that the clarity while viewing Jupiter and it’s moons is amazing. I also found Saturn and could see the rings pretty well, even though I have a lot of light pollution.
While I didn’t buy the spotting scope to view heavenly bodies, I can see the difference, quite vividly, compared to my $300 spotting scope. The craters on the moon stand out like its right there! So vivid and crisp.
I’ve also scanned the side of a mountain during dusk lighting, and it is still very vivid and clear! Glad I made the choice over the Razor HD. The fine tune focus is a very handy feature. Build quality is amazing.
tired of the cheap spotting scope I had so I jumped in with both feet and bought the razor 20x60x85 angled scope. the clarity from edge to edge left me speechless. I took it outside when I first got it and focused on a car license plate approx.
75yds away and proceeded to read the serial number on his yearly tag sticker. taking it to the range tomorrow and can’t wait to see how it works there.
C5 Spotting Scope by Celestron. Celestron’s C5 Spotting Scope is a 5″ (127mm) aperture, 1250 mm f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain optical system. Its optical excellence is the reason it was chosen by NASA for many space shuttle missions.
The C5 spotting scope is an ideal choice for the serious bird watcher, nature lover or anyone who enjoys beautiful views -either from your home or in the field. At just six pounds in weight and 11 inches in length, this spotting scope is a completely portable visual and photographic instrument that performs well in any viewing location.
Further, Celestron offers a wide variety of optional accessories to expand the capabilities of this special instrument.
With the Celestron Ultima 100 Straight Waterproof Spotting Scope, you can enjoy an enhanced view. It features multi-coated optics to provide exceptional clarity and brilliance, whether you are hunting, star-gazing or just observing nature.
This is the largest target spotting scope in the Ultima line. It is designed to provide you with high-quality performances in all light conditions. This item is ideal for all types of outdoor viewing activities.
The Celestron spotting scope is treated with nitrogen, so it is both waterproof and fog-proof. It comes with a soft carrying case. It offers a close focus of 10m and a large field of view. The zoom eyepiece gives you magnification of 22-66x.
With so much versatility, this scope will meet your needs.
I own 2 telescopes (Celestron 8 SCT & 4 Maksutov) and various binoculars including an 15×70. Bought this spotting scope with little expectations as it has only 80mm of aperture and was so cheap. My purpose was just to have it on my balcony as a practical means of watching boats and planes far away as setting a telescope is a messy job.
But wow, the moment I had a first look, I was astonished. at 20x, it covers almost same area as my 15×70 binos, field of view being slightly less. Lots of light it gathers. when I zoomed in, field of view was still satisfying with no degradation of quality other than some dimming which is unavoidable.
The quality is as good as what I see through my telescopes, except for some purple fringing on very bright objects. I had no issues seeing belts of Jupiter or rings of Saturn (could not see Cassini Division though).
When you zoom in, it gets the moon almost fully in the field of view. It’s great for stargazing too. Lots of pin point stars across the field. Can’t tell the difference with a telescope. I’m thinking of replacing the OTA of one of my telescopes with this one so I will have tracking ability too.
Really loved the optics and portability. Bought two more so I can keep one in the car all the time and give one to dad as a gift (it has enough eye relief too!).
While I’m no pro when it comes to optics (and I can’t compare with any other spotting scope), I can still very much know if a product is good or not by testing it different ways, and I must say that this product is very good, not to mention its excellent price point.
I did “test it” by looking at different objets, both close and far, during both day and night, and could always see very well. I could read the detail of a serial number plate riveted into the inside of street lamp, or read details on the parking access card hanging on the mirror of a car in my parking lot at night (some local light helped of course, as it’s not a night vision device).
I could also see several of Jupiters satellite planets, very impressive. Lastly, I also did check at the windows of a very high restaurant (located on top of a 20 story building) 5 km away, and could see people sitting by the windows, able to tell if they were men or woman.
That too was impressive, Of course, optics can be critical in some applications, but for casual everyday life and general purpose, this scope is absolutely amazing. If not satisfied, you can always return it.
But I bet you wont. : ) Note that for maximum zoom usage, a tripod would be required, which I own and used with the spotting scope, as it will otherwise be a bit too shaky and details will be lost in blurry.
Really nice scope for the price. I’ve never had a real high end one, but this one met my expectations plus some. Will be perfect for wildlife and bird watching. Good crisp view. Bright images. Focuses easily.
Well made, but also surprisingly light weight for its size. No issues with fogging. Only thing I didnt care for was the tripod that came with it. Lots of plastic and cheaply made. Works fine once you get on your target, but kinda bouncey/rigid and doesnt move smoothly while trying to find your target.
The Barska 20-60×60 Waterproof Colorado Spotting Scope is designed with multicoated optics in a rugged weather sealed housing. The wide zoom range makes this optical device ideal for hunting and bird watching, as well as spotting at the rifle range and even lunar observations.
Use the 20x magnification to survey the entire landscape, then zoom to higher magnification and focus on fine details. Colorado spotting scopes use multicoated lenses and BK-7 Porro prisms to transmit bright, contrast-rich images with sharp detail even in low-light conditions.
Weather seals, straight-body design and grooved zoom dial ensure this spotting scope will deliver a comfortable long-term viewing experience for years to come.
It seems well built, and looks like a item of higher quality than what it actually is. Its probably because i expected to much of this, being from the cheaper side of scopes and all. i should have known better, optics and things of this nature are a prime example of “you get what you pay for”.
It’s not powerful enough for me, the eye relief is pretty bad, and if you try to zoom in on your target more that 100yrds away, well good luck, I was better off just squinting my eyes real hard. Luepold, or nikon will be my next.
I was looking for an inexpensive spotting scope that I could take into the field and not worry about getting knocked around. After reading the reviews here and setting it up at over 200 yards, I was impressed with how sharp and clear the images are.
We had no problem spotting. 22 caliber shot placement and love how smooth the focusing controls are to operate. It came with a mini-tripod for bench shooting and a convenient protective carry case so I can throw it into the gear bag with no worries.
The universal mounting hub also made it easy to use with my recycled 35mm camera tripod (see Honey, I told you not to throw it away. I knew it would be useful for something again one day (thanx Barska).
This spotting scope is surprisingly light weight which was an unexpected bonus especially considering the sharpness of the imagery. It’s always nice to find an item that gives you more than your money’s worth and this Barska spotting scope is a real value with more beneficial features as compared to EVERY OTHER spotting scope I looked at.
some costing 3 and 4 times as much. I would highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a high quality inexpensive spotting scope.
I wanted a fairly decent scope for the range that was not going to put me in the poor house and I decided on this scope after looking at prices and recommendations. This scope is good for a person firing at 100 yard target.
It is easy to acquire and focus in and can see where the bullet impacted on the target itself. This will save you time in walking out to the target. If you want to use it for two hundred yards or greater it not much use.
Though you can see the target you cannot distinguish where the bullets have impacted. Stand is steady and it is light weight, fits in my 16 inch range bag easily. I like that it is fogless and water proof.

Reviews From Real Customers
Got this as a gift for my father, tried it out two days after Christmas. As stated in the headline the optics are good, and the overall build quality of the scope is good. The tripod mount that came with it is complete garbage 1.
is a poor design with the compression plate that mounts to the scope and then to the tripod. 2. that compression plate clamp came broken, the screw to tighten it was missing a clip so I’ve had to get creative at the hardware store to fix it.
Excellent value especially as it comes with a decent tripod and a good hard case as well as a canvas case. I also bought a Viking smart phone attachment which may not produce award winning pics but it’s a great and very inexpensive intro to bird photography.
The 20-60×70 WP Blackhawk Straight Spotting Scope sets the standard for portability, optical performance and value. Features a straight eyepiece system and wide zoom range to see objects in greater detail.
The multi-coated lenses maximize light transmission and offer bright, clear, high contrast views in all types of lighting and weather conditions. The Porro prism system offers greater depth perception and a wider field of view.
Other features 100% water proof and fog proof protection and an extendable glare reducing sun-shade which is set back in the housing to allow the sun shade to cast a shadow and reduce glare for use in bright sun.
The large objective lens increase light transmission, delivering brighter images in low light conditions. The Blackhawk Spotting Scope is convenient and portable with a sleek go-anywhere compact body.
The rubber armor cover protects it from the harshest elements and helps in absorbing shock. The carrying case also helps keep this scope protected when you’re on the go. This Blackhawk spotter sets the standard for portability, optical performance and value.
I needed a spotting scope that I could keep in my shooting bag rather than using my spotting scope that I use for hunting. I was skeptical at first as I’d never heard of the brand before. What caught my interest was the fact that this had Multi coated lens.
There was a larger objective model for a bit less, but it only had Fully coated lens. The multi coating helps make this a very clear scope. It worked well and I didn’t need to run down range with binos to check my groups.
The tripod is a bit cheesy but, for the price, I wasn’t buying it for the tripod or case. I think I’d even use it for hunting, as long as I didn’t carry it in my pack like I do my old Bushnell from the 70’s.
That scope is as tough as nails. This one seems to be patterned very similar but with the Multi Coated lens. In the video provided, You can see I placed it on top of a much taller tripod.
I purchased this product for use in sighting in rifles and observing targets up to 300 meters. The scope comes with a small tripod and a protective case. The scope focuses well and is useful for range work up to 300 meters.
I noticed, however, that one of the lenses has numerous small bubble like imperfections. This flaw does not interfere with focusing, however it is something I was surprised to see from a product manufactured by Barska.
Since the scope works well I decided not to go through the hassle of exchanging the scope for another one (it had to be shipped). In any event, I still recommend this scope.
I just picked this up. I suggest a photographers tripod. A good one with vertical movement swivel and tilt. Included pod was really a toy. Case and bag awesome. Careful not to screw out the zoom optics.
The less expensive one was not waterproof or fog proof. A must for cold trail work. I ware glasses and when off the scope was fine. Happy spotting. In store price was 20 less expensive.
Celestron 52322 12-36 x 60 Landscout Spotting Scope – Green Description Product Description The LandScout 60 mm Spotting Scope is easy-to-use and perfect for any outdoor activity. The compact, lightweight design is ideal for carrying with you on a backpacking trip or hiking excursion.
LandScout is also the perfect spotting scope to bring with you to an indoor or outdoor shooting range. Youll be able to quickly set up this spotting scope and use the 12-36x zoom to get in close to the action.
Although its an affordable, entry-level spotting scope, the LandScout features multi-coated optics and provides bright, sharp views. Also makes a great backup scope when you dont want to carry a larger, heavier scope.
My review is based on expectations, I am an avid animal watcher and have high end optics. I wanted a light scope that would fit in my daypack and accompany me on hikes. I wanted an angled scope that I could rotate allowing my wife to easily view any object of interest (I have a height advantage).
I wanted an easily packed scope that I could take with me to the gun range. This scope does all I expected and wanted. If you want to use a scope in low light (evenings and mornings), this is not the scope for you.
You will need to significantly increase the amount of money you spend.
I’m very pleased with the scope. I don’t use it on a tripod, I prefer to rest it on a towel, on a ledge. I honestly can’t see the point of the sturdy metal box, too solid to carry around, perhaps this could have been omitted and more money spent on the lens.
It’s very light and is a great help in spotting birds at up to 200 metres. You can see their eyes and very small distinguishing marks. The fabric case it comes in is a tight fit. It takes some time to get used to the focus when going from X 20 to X 60, but you do get used to it.
All in all a very good buy. Excellent next day delivery.
I have become a member at a local WWT site and my small binoculars weren’t really up to the job. I was considering a telescope but couldn’t afford the prices being asked by the top end brands but this one caught my eye.
The price of the Celestron 60mm zoom refractor spotter was affordable at £75. It arrived in just 2 days by standard post. The spotter comes in a solid aluminium carry case but inside this is a lighter padded case to carry it about along with the small tripod supplied with it.
This tripod, although basic is very sturdy and once set up keeps the spotter fixed on what you want to look at. I’ve only had chance to use this in the garden but have been very impressed by the sharpness of the image.
At 20 x zoom the image is nice and bright. As you increase the zoom the image does darken but I was expecting this from other reviews. Have used it to look at the moon and was very pleased with the detail I could see.
Celestron Mini Maks bring portability and versatility; the Maksutov optical design is recognized for being compact, easy to use, and applicable for both terrestrial (land) and astronomical use. C70 Mini Mak is a small but powerful spotting scope that includes a tabletop tripod which has built-in slow motion controls, a built-in zoom eyepiece capable of 75x magnification, and soft carrying case.
Maksutov-Cassegrain Optical Design The MAK is a catadioptric spotting scope, which means the optical design includes both a lens and a mirror. The light coming through a MAK passes through the corrector lens to the primary mirror and back to a spherical secondary mirror before it hits the eyepiece.
Images are bright, sharp, and virtually free of chromatic aberration. The Maksutov-Cassegrain’s optical design offers several unique benefits. Instead of a secondary mirror, the MAK features a “secondary spot” of reflective coating applied directly to the inside of the corrector plate.
Because of this, the spotting scope does not require frequent collimation. Also, the secondary spot is significantly smaller, giving the MAK its signature high-contrast views. One important thing to note about Maksutov-Cassegrain spotting scope is that the larger, heavier Maksutov corrector plate takes longer to cool down and adjust to ambient air temperature.
This good scope was recommended by an Optic Expert at Binoculars. com. I use it every weekend in the shooting range, and I use it for precision shooting at 50 meters. The magnification is powerful. Bright images at good lighting conditions.
*But under some cloudy day, the images are not so bright and the holes at the target are not easy to distinguish. However, I’m very pleased with the C-70. It looks “chubby” and a little bit heavy, but it worths.
Is short enough and easy to handle and carry. The box containing the scope was received inside a corrugated strong carton. When I opened the box, I saw the scope very well secured with duroport mouldings, and another rectangular box containing the table tripod and also was found the soft carrying case with a soft cloth to clean the lenses.
The small soft arrying case has the anathomical shape of the scope; has a small sling, is very practical and can be carried inside every backpack as well. But the table tripod must be carried separatedly because the soft carrying case has no room for it.
Talking about the table tripod, is provided with the scope and it has fine adjustment knobs for height and horizontal fine adjustments. is great, The head of the table tripod allows you to put the scope in a very comfortable position when shooting at prone.
(but you have to find the correct way but it can be done for sure. ) For standing position, I switch from the table tripod to another one that I purchased here in binoculars. com, such tripod is a tall one which is a perfect combination with the C-70.
The tripod head can be moved into a comfortable position as well, I use it a little bit inclined; but it does not mean any trouble at all. For kneeling position, the combination between the C-70 and tall tripod works better yet.
I will recommend it to any range shooter due the great magnification, good focus, bright images and unpaired table tripod. My advise is to buy the tall tripod as well. But be advised that under rain, a dark or cloudy day or at dawn the impacts could be difficult to distinguish; and of course, as any new piece, the focusing knob could be found a little bit stiff, but will loosen with the constant usage.
Anyway I’m satisfied and happy with this C-70, and I need to mention again that was a great recommedation from the Optics Experts at binoculars. com.
The scope has a quality look to it, but I can’t say the optics are very good. My intention was for birdwatching and possibly an astronomy application, which are my personal interests. I found it tricky to achieve a good focus during the day, and at night the unit was plagued with an assortment of oddball distortions.
Stars would show spikes and the moon and planets ghost imaging and poor focus. I suspect the 45 degree diagonal has something to do with the poor nighttime performance, as I have heard that suggested before.

I bought this scope based on the reviews and I have to agree with most of them. I give it 4 out of 5 stars, and here is why. SCOPE Not the clearest optics in the world, but pretty darned good for a $40 scope (Inside Track Club price).
The adjustments work smoothly, and even at the lowest magnification I could clearly read 1/2″ high lettering on a sticker at 125 feet – and without the scope I could barely make out the outline of the 2″ x 3″ sticker itself.
I like the fact that the scope can be rotated in its mount so the eyepiece can be aimed to the side. This will work well to install a cell phone mount to the eyepiece. The rubberizing on the aluminum body looks like it will provide good protection.
The sunshade with a flip-up lens cap is a welcome feature. The zippered nylon case is a nice little bonus. TRIPOD My only complaint is with the tripod. To call the tripod “cheesy” would be an insult to all cheese everywhere.
When I took it out of the bag, turning the adjustment handle wouldn’t make the clamp grip tightly enough around the “barrel” of the UP/DOWN swivel to hold the scope solidly in place. I ended up taking the UP/DOWN swivel joint apart, wrapping the “barrel” of the joint with a piece of tape, and putting it back together.
The additional thickness of the tape increased the barrel diameter enough to give the clamping mechanism enough “grip” so that when it is tightened down it will hold the scope in a stable position now.
I will likely get another heavier camera tripod to use with the scope. I’m really looking forward to taking this to the outdoor range. Overall it seems like a pretty good piece of shooting gear for the money.
This product works great at the 20x zoom. At 20x it has great detail and works pretty well. Move it up to 40x and no matter how you focus it the picture is a little blurry. Go to 60x and you can still make out what the image is but it’s very blurry.
This is great for 20x and pretty good for 40x zoom. I would consider the 60x pretty useless. It is hard to find the place where your eye can pick up the image (moving your eye towards and away from the eyepiece).
Considering the next step up is almost 3-4 times the cost and not much better it’s like all other harbor freight things……pretty good bang for the buck. If you are using this for just some fun spotting animals and don’t want to know how big a bighorn is at 800 yards then this is all you need.
I wanted a spotting scope for the woods and the range. I thought this might fit my purposes but the eyepiece is small and I have to keep circling my eye to line up the the image coming down the pipe.
It is like looking through a soda straw to find the target I am trying to acquire. The focus works and the zoom works and images are increased and focused but about 100 yards is where I see a difference that convinces me that this is probably not for me.
I have a more clear picture with my binoculars. I need to increase my $$ and buy something more suitable for me. I do buy Harbor Freight tools and accessories but this one did not suit my purpose. I used my own Trigger-stick tripod but the tripod did not help the image.
Discover all the wonders the natural world has to offer with the National Geographic 20-60 x 60 mm Spotting Scope. Compact and lightweight, it’s perfect for popping in your pack when you’re heading out on a hike to enjoy some casual bird watching and wildlife observation.
The adjustable magnification lets you zoom in on animals in their natural habitat at a distance without disturbing them. The large objective lens diameter lets in plenty of light, but on overcast days you can use the included tripod for better stability.
I’ve no experience with these things but after realising what it’s for I really like it now. It’s for zooming in on a fixed spot on a target that isn’t moving. I love looking at the birds feeding on a feeder I’ve situated about a fifty metres away.
Enjoyed looking at the moon through it too. Controls are fine once you get used to them. A great beginner scope at a great price compared to others.

This Scope is very Robust, it has a good solid feel to it. I set the Scope on a good camera tripod and positioned it towards the mountains here in Pa. On our mountains we have tall radio and repeater towers sitting on top.
I pointed it at one of the towers that’s about 2 miles away. On 20 Power I was able to pick out the Guy wires and the cross frame structure with ease. I then cranked it to 40 power and was able to make out a company logo on the dish.
I said ,ok lets see what 60 power can do. I could almost read the company logo. It had about 7 letters to it, but that was it. The focus controls are very smooth and have a nice friction drag to them.
The glass on each end have very nice clarity. I am very happy with my purchase. The tripod it comes with is satisfactory.
For the price it is better than most stuff that is much more expensive. My buddies overpriced scope couldn’t see as far as this. Lightweight, nice case and decent tripod. Had a guy at my range want the model number so he could order himself this same one.
Very happy with it as I was nervous after reading reviews for other models and brands. No disappointment.

The Razor HD 85mm Straight Combo, 27-60X is the ideal choice for hunters, shooters, and outdoor observation enthusiasts who seek a premium, high-performance spotting scope.
I used to have the prior vortex model spotter and I actually prefer that one over this. The old spotter went down to 20-60x85mm. At first I didn’t think the difference of 7 magnification would make a difference, but it does.
It’s much harder to figure out where you’re at when your glassing because the field of view is much smaller. I also have had an issue with the eye piece constantly falling out or getting loose when you try to zoom in.
Edge to edge clarity is good at close range but suffers at long range. I also preferred the focus system on the old model spotter. I thought I’d get used to the smaller field of view after a year or so using it but its still taking some getting used to.
I debated between spending over twice as much and getting a Swarovski or getting the Vortex. I went with the Vortex because my first scope was a Vortex and they have the best warranty available. With the savings I plan on buying a high end pair of binoculars.
My first Vortex spotting scope was the beginner Nomad scope that claimed to have 20X60 magnification. In reality only 20X – 30X is usable on a basic scope. With the Razor HD the entire 27X – 85X is usable but after 60X the additional magnification is minimal.
The Vortex Razor HD is a great scope and you will not be disappointed. Very easy to use and quickly locate your subject.
Happy pleased and impressed. I just got back from a deer hunt in Idaho where I got to use my Vortex Razor HD 27 X 60 X 85 angled spotting scope. I have hardly any experience using a spotting scope. I had to read the instructions – not because I couldn’t figure it out on my own but this is an expensive fine instrument and I didn’t want to screw it up somehow because I was too stubborn to read the directions.
So at first light I had it set up on a really nice Vanguard Alta 2330 tripod. This is not a very expensive tripod but it is well made and served as a steady base for my scope in 15-20 mile winds. It took me a little practice getting on a spot and zooming in.
Everything I looked at came in very clear/sharp. The big test came when we moved and were driving down a dirt road and we spotted deer about 10000 yards away. I jumped out of the truck and put the spotting scope on the hood and tried to find the deer in the scope.
I had a hard time finding the deer that I could see with my naked eye. That’s me, but the wind was whipping hard and jiggling the truck and my brother was bouncing around in the seat. Finally I foud an eye ball in the brush of a different deer than I was trying to look at.
I finally got on them and could see all four were does, so that saved us a long stock up a pretty steep hill side which we would have done because my 8X40 binoculars were not good enough to positively identify these deer in the very thick brush.
Later that day we spotted more deer in a similar situation but this time I took the time to set up the stand and I was able to get on the deer quickly. Again they were all does but I picked out more deer in the brush than we initially spotted with the binoculars.
I definitely recommend the vortex angled spotting scope. I found it quite comfortable sitting down looking through the angle scope – no neck strain like I had experienced with the straight scopes. A person needs to practice finding objects at distance and zooming in and focus because a minute can make a big difference during a hunt.
A budget spotting scope for target shooting can be a great tool to help improve your shooting accuracy. By being able to see your target more clearly, you can make better shots and ultimately improve your score.
There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a budget spotting scope, such as the magnification power, the weight and size, and the price. With a little research, you can find a great budget spotting scope that will help you take your shooting to the next level.
