She helps us understand our grace, the importance of giving thanks and through this finding our joy by recognising all the gifts that God has placed before us.

In the first session Ann Voskamp shares her back story. She is a mother of six, living on a farm in Ontario, Canada with her farmer husband. Her pain began at age four when her little sister was hit by a truck chasing after kitten, in the lane outside her family farm boundary everyone was devastated, including the driver who never saw her that moment was catastrophic and changed all their lives forever.

Ann is not alone, many of us have different, painful pasts. We all deal with it differently and there is no right or wrong way as everyone is different. Sometimes we learn to cope using automatic pilot and not thinking about it, or perhaps keeping busy and in some cases we dont allow ourselves to remember and black it out.

Sometimes it lasts a short time or it can last a long time and compound itself scaring us, because it hasnt healed. In some cases it is still raw and affects our everyday existence having a damagingeffect on our mental and physical health and wellbeing.

The whole premise of the book is the idea of finding what it takes to live a full life. Ann explains that this can only be found through giving thanks. She begins to unpack how we can truly be thankful and she says it is through recognising the gifts the Lord has given us.

Thankfulness is not a blanket that can be thrown over every area in our life. It is a practice that must be learned! She encourages us using her beautiful, poetic language and writing style to take time to see the gifts we already have.

I struggled getting into the rhythms of this book because I am more of a simple story teller and tend to read books from authors with similar styles. Mrs. Voscamp is definitely a poet at heart, and she uses poetic language and imagery to tell her story.

Once I picked up on the rhythms I started moving through the book at a better pace. And WOW, the points she makes are everything!!! I can already feel the difference this shift in thinking is making on my life.

GOD is using this book to open my eyes to see my husband’s everyday love and kindness more clearly. I’m laying down my focus on the negative and the bad, and opening my eyes to the gifts and grace God has put in my life.

Maybe ungratitude really is the point where we have all gone off track. PLEASE READ THIS BOOK! LIKE ME, YOU WILL BE THANKFUL THAT YOU DID!.

I am in a Bible study with 9 other ladies and we have just started 1,000 Gifts. So far, after reading the first three chapters and completing the first lesson in the workbook, I am really enjoying this study.

I feel that being thankful and content in any circumstance (Covid) is something I am striving for. I love Ann’s brutal honesty about her sister’s death and how she dealt with it. We are a group of more mature Christian sisters(all of us over 60 yrs.

old) and we sometimes find that authors are speaking to younger women but this study can be for any age. Well done! I would love to send a photo but unfortunately due to Covid we are doing this study on Zoom.

If you are already familiar with Joyce Meyer, you know that she writes and preaches in everyday, easy to understand language. I LOVE this daily devotional by Joyce. She selects topics that apply to everyone’s lives, and she provides thoughtful insight on how each of us can create and/or improve our personal relationships with God.

This is a beautiful devotional. Every single daily devotion is filled with great words of encouragement and spiritual advise. And it’s all based on God’s Holy WORD! I would recommend everyone seeking wisdom and encouragement for their daily life to purchase this book.

Like reading Psalms 1 but it did not say any thing about it, any how one felt they was a lot missing, you can only get to God though Jesus yes the spirit is sent to help in live. wish the book had been more near to what is written in King James bible.

What an awesome book. It’s written well, easy to follow, not too fancy and full of great information. I would easily recommend this book to anyone who wants to know how they can hear from God and recognize him in daily life.

I borrowed this book from a coworker and read it twice before I had to return it. It was just as good the second time through. His style of writing is insightful, thoughtful, an retrospective. God reminded of who he is, who he has been and is to me through his narrative story telling and scripture referencing.

Always a good thing to remember. I had to purchase it for my personal library. If it’s worth reading twice, it’s a keeper.

I ordered 3 of these for my nieces for Christmas. I was so pleasantly surprised when I received them. They are really beautiful books and larger than I expected. The outside is a really pretty linen with a beautiful watercolor pattern printed on parts of it.

They are very solid and a really nice gift. I carefully glanced through some pages and saw that each devotional seems to start with a larger, really pretty scripture and then a relatable, short story to follow.

Each page I saw had a continual, soft blue/green watercolor pattern. I forgot to take pics before wrapping them, but they are really beautiful. I am very happy with my purchase and I’m sure my nieces will appreciate these!.

The first writing was spot on for me, the the following days Have Not disappointed. Not only is the content rich, the physical book is lovely in color, design and touch. The cover is like cloth, very different from other books.

I love this devotional book. The daily entries are simple, yet so profound, to my daily life. They are so easy to apply to everyday life situations. Lysa is one of my favorites anyway so that also helps.

As someone who has grown up in the church and has been a Christ follower since a young age, I honestly tend to avoid “Christian books”. Most leave me feeling like I am a horrible person or I try to read it and become ridiculously bored.

I know the Holy Spirit is important so when I heard Becky Thompson was writing a book about the Holy Spirit, I was THRILLED! I have followed Becky Thompson for years, and have read all of her other books, so I knew this book would be different.

I knew that I would feel refreshed and validated, even if there would be some tough love and hard truths in her writing. Her writing makes me feel like I am sitting down with a friend for coffee, not lining up for a lecture.

God So Close is a book everyone needs to read. Not only does Becky Thompson pour out her heart on the page, she comes alongside you as you find the truth about WHO the Holy Spirit is and HOW that impacts your life.

Also, truth about God’s presence and how that impacts us and those around us is also given. The pages are filled with verse references and personal stories. Each chapter ends in a prayer that is heartfelt and genuine.

There are also reflection questions that let you dig deeper! As someone who has sat through many a sermon on the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts, I learned so much and feel even more connected to God and the Holy Spirit than I have in a long time.

This is a must read for all! I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

This new book by Becky Thompson is a lot different than her previous books, but not in a bad way! Her conversational writing style is still the same, but this book goes much deeper theologically than the ones that came before–also, this one has a much broader audience; I’m happy I can recommend it to any Christian friends, not just moms as was the case with her previous books.

This book focuses on the Holy Spirit and who he is a part of the trinity of God. Her previous book, Peace, delved a little bit into the truth of seeing the Holy Spirit as equally as powerful and equally God as we see Jesus and God the Father, so I was excited to learn that she was writing an entire book around this subject, because I think it is an important one.

One of the things I liked most about the book was that BT backs up every point she’s making with scripture, and not just one scripture reference. She uses multiple scriptures throughout each chapter and for each point she’s making.

I’ll be honest, a couple of the chapters were work for me as a lifelong Southern Baptist, but there were so many times I highlighted sections while reading through this book because there were so many good truths that I wanted to be able to go back to.

It’s a worthwhile and timely read.

Lysa Terkeurst is an amazing woman and I’ve been lucky enough to see her speak in person. The topic of this book hits home, emotional eating is a struggle for me. She ever so gracefully is able to tie food addictions and struggles back to biblically based advice.

Worth picking up, she is encouraging and comical at the same time.

In the newly revised and expanded edition of Discerning the Voice of God by Priscilla Shirer you will be taught how to hear God’s voice and to follow His path for your life with His direction. If you are anything like me you have a longing to hear God but find that it isn’t always fulfilled.

The question is why not? Why cant I hear God talking to me? There are a few reasons and Priscilla will help you to address those reasons and find ways to get past them. Priscilla explains that there are times when we hear God but just say that it was a hunch or gut feeling.

Those thought will keep us from ever having close personal relationship with Him. She gives us three ways to help pull us closer to Him and to hear Him more clearly: worship prayer and meditation because He wants us to hear Him.

He wants to challenge us to live for Him to know all the truths He can give us and to offer us peace through a relationship with Him. Now I have not read the previous version of this book but I have to say that I love this version.

The questions at the end of each chapter (which are new) helped me to work towards a better understanding of when God is talking to me and helped me to hear Him a little better. She addresses every issue you can think of to help you clear away all blockages that might be holding you back.

My favorite part about this book is that Priscilla write with such authority like she KNOWS she can help you but with such kindness that its like having a conversation with your best friend talking over a cup of tea.

Her writing is warm and welcoming. She knows what she is talking about but she doesn’t talk down to you. She honestly wants to help you. She wants you to have one of the greatest gifts there isÖhearing God and having a personal relationship with Him.

This is probably the best video based study I have even been part of. I have participated in many over the years. It offers the simplicity of Biblical truth and sets you free from all the “should dos”.

Priscilla Shirer is a gifted teacher and speaker. She is genuine and teaches from real life. Just EXCELLENT!.

We are doing this for our upcoming Bible study. Priscilla Shirer is an excellent writer, very compelling. She gives you a lot to think about and get to the heart of the matter at the same time. She is very good at asking thought provoking questions.

You will be very pleased with any of her books.

I bought this book because I had seen a few people talking about it on social media. As a Christian parent I was interested in finding a way to teach my 5 & 2 year old about prayer and the love of God.

This book is it! It affirms the love God has for us on every single page and teaches kids that prayer is ok in any situation, good or bad. The book is rather lengthy for a kid’s book, however my kids are drawn in on every page thanks to the great illustrations and the wording.

I will continue reading this to my kids throughout their childhood because it is just that great.

My 7 year old loves all the ideas that this book gave for prayers. Stormie is a wonderful writer and the illustrations are very good as well. Every page gives a great idea of what to thank God for. Highly recommend this book for parents whose children want to learn more about Jesus!.

I have purchased copies of this book through the years and gifted it to children. I started reading it to my Faith Formation students years ago. It is a good way to talk to children about prayer, what it means to pray, and how to make it a daily practice.

We talk about how Christianity is not a religion, it’s a relationship. But how does that flesh out in real life? John Eldredge helps take the mystery out of hearing from God. His personal and practical illustrations from his own life bring to life the truths found in Scripture.

We live as though God reached into time when Jesus came, but now He is out of tangible reach until He comes again. Not so! We can hear and know God in this life. Our lives can be so much richer when we walk and talk with Him.

and hear Him answer! I am extremely impressed with this book. Very practical and biblically sound. It is one I intend to read and re-read.

John gives an incredible daily acoount of his devotional and prayer life with God. He shows the steps toward feeling comfortable with talking out loud to God as if you were speaking to Him while standing by your side.

Prayer to God is so needed, but the willingness to speak with God as if He were standing face to face with you, then pausing in this fast paced life to actually listen to what He has to say is the ultimate.

I LOVED this book! I had seen the author on a talk show and was impressed with him. Also I had talked to people that had read other books he had written and rated them very highly. The book is a must if you are looking for a closer walk with the Lord.

It talks about how to have a good relationship there needs to be two way communication. EVen in this day and time we can expect to not only communicate with God but that He will communicate with us if we only listen.

This is my favorite book by Jerry Bridges. It has helped me tremendously when facing the extremely hard challenges I have had to face. I highly recommend this book; it will guide you to a point where you can fully trust in God’s sovereign plan for your life.

“Trusting God” is my go to book when I am having difficulties and trials in my life. It is such a wonderful reminder of Gods sovereignty. Its a book that no matter what you are going through, makes you feel and KNOW, that everything is going to be OK no matter the outcome because God is in total control.

I have several copies that I give to other suffering Christians.

A friend recommended this book to me, and I am happy to say that it was an excellent recommendation. The first thing that got my attention was in the Introduction. It read “If I were Satan and my ultimate goal was to thwart God’s kingdom and purpose, one of my main strategies would be to get churchgoers to ignore the Holy Spirit”.

This book really held my interest; I couldn’t put it down, and after I finished reading it, I read it again. I intend to keep on reading it over and over and in the meantime, I have truly found the Holy Spirit! I highly recommend this book.

If you are a Christian the Holy Spirit lives in you. This book reminds us of this, as well as how important He is. Dont leave Him out. He is, after all, one of the Trinity. A very good read.

We bought this ebook for a Bible Study at our church. In looking it up before we purchased we were hesitant to buy but we decided to go ahead with the class. The underlying exegesis is lacking. Things seem to picked out of here and there and throw together into a book and Study Guide.

It also seems to foster the notion that people are afraid of the Holy Spirit or some such. It is confusing and it is hard to grasp what the author is really trying to say about the Holy Spirit.

This book is amazing and has been hard to put down. It is written to be easily read and the words leap off the page. You can envision everything that you are reading and it gets me excited to know that I can also do something great.

With it explaining the successes and failures its truly an open book work. Get this book. You will not be unsatisfied. I give this book a 5 star rating because the written book is superb. I would give it 3.

5-4 stars for the used book purchase. The outside of the book and the pages are in great shape. Almost new. But it has a lot of markings, writings, and hi lights throughout. Some of the comments were not the best of comments.

I just tried to overlook them. I did know that I was purchasing a used book at a great price so I wont complain much.

The author offers compelling historical and biographical information concerning spiritual Christian revivals. The format is easy to read and offers detailed footnotes.

Reading this book now, it is great! Roberts Liardon has done a wonderful job of research and documenting the gospel greata of the past. Not disappointed at all with the book,everything I expected and more!.

I am going to persevere and read the whole book but some of it I chew over and still don’t understand. There is much to mull over – I had already heard that people from different faiths see just a part of the elephant and I was fascinated with the idea that you can’t use that illustration because it means SOMEONE knows it’s an ELEPHANT and can therefore see the whole truth.

Excellent book explaining why there has to be a God. Easy reading. Held my attention. Concepts were understandable.

This book provides an admirable apologetic for post-modernism. It is theological, philosophical, and empirical, and often all at once. Keller has a firm grasp on the post-modern culture of the West. His intro is a challenging foray into the skepticism that seems so prevalent at present.

He considers how knowledge can be both academic and experiential. He nicely bridges the gap between liberals and evangelicals. His treatment of doubt as an instigator of faith and not its enemy is a refreshing perspective indeed.

He addresses both the empirical concerns of modernism and the experiential desires of post-modernity well. He considers both the rationalism and irrationalism that make up the nature of faith. He answers the standard criticisms of Christianity with sensitivity and compassion.

This book was written with both believer and skeptic in mind.

This fascinating littel book describes the life and thinking of a 17th century lay brother is a French monastery. From the time he entered every thought centred on his love for God. Even while performing his duties his mind was on God.

Even so he had many friends and those seeking counselling whom he corresponded with. Many of his letters have been preserved and are detailed by the author. His joy in the Lord and his humbleness are very evident.

Read the book and you may find like I did that with. all your thoughts and acts you may find yourself thinking does God approve?.

I loved The God Dare by Kate Battistelli! Kate provides real life and Biblical examples of God Dare’s and how they bring about transformation and change in the world. She beautifully retells Bible stories that focus on particular Bible characters that accepted God’s Dares.

She also shares several examples of Biblical characters that accepted the devil’s dare and some that accepted both. Even though I knew most of the Bible stories Kate shares, she retells them in such easy to understand and engaging ways I felt like I was reading them for the first time! I love that each chapter ends with Scriptures to Think About, God Dare Secrets, and discussion questions that can also be used in a group study.

I also loved the 7 Spiritual Secrets and God Dare Enemies that Kate explains in detail. Kate authentically bares her soul and shares her truths, and sheds light on her own sins of the past, which I found powerful! She expresses her hopes that everyone graciously accepts God’s dare’s, no matter how big or obscure they are, they all matter.

I was deeply touched by Kate’s writing, her honesty, and her faithfulness in walking the path the Lord has laid out before her. The God Dare tenderly inspired, encouraged, and motivated me. Kate writes with a no-nonsense, “I’ve been there” approach which I find engaging and refreshing.

Her faithfulness, authenticity, wisdom, and passion were poured upon the pages of The God Dare and I love the sprinkles of light hearted humor Kate shares. “The God Dare” is a fabulous read! Kate Battistelli has written an encouraging, challenging book that many could benefit from diving into. In her second book, Battistelli shares her own personal stories of challenge or triumph in a way that both seems like a memoir of her life and a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

I had to spread out my reading over a couple of evenings, and I enjoyed the quiet moments to catch up. Battistelli is the mother of Christian singer Francesca, whose story she shares a bit of in “The God Dare,” but Kate has plenty of stories of her own interesting life, from performing on Broadway with Yul Brenner and other famous actors to her personal struggle with infertility and depression.

Kate is all at once the supportive voice you need and the honest motherly figure who pushes you out of your comfort zone, all while cheering you on. So many in this world settle for less than what God wants for them.

Sometimes being bold and brave enough to take the “God Dares” that are placed before us make the difference between settling and soaring. Battistelli uses stories of people in Scripture who decided against accepting what was offered by the world to be challenged to reach for the better things God had for them.

Each chapter end reminds the reader of pertinent Sciptures, points to remember from that portion and helpful questions for self reflection. This can be deep work, so be prepared to finish the book different from when you began.

“The God Dare” will speak to people of all ages who are through with doing the bare minimum in their walk of faith. If you’re ready to jump in with both feet and do some things the world says is crazy, “The God Dare” is the book for you.

This would be perfect for a small group study, women’s study, college age small group or to do on your own with a journal and your Bible handy. I was thankful to be a part of the early reader group, thanks to Shiloh Press and Barbour Publishing.

I loved The God Dare by Kate Battistelli! Kate provides real life and Biblical examples of God Dare’s and how they bring about transformation and change in the world. She beautifully retells Bible stories that focus on particular Bible characters that accepted God’s Dares.

She also shares several examples of Biblical characters that accepted the devil’s dare and some that accepted both. Even though I knew most of the Bible stories Kate shares, she retells them in such easy to understand and engaging ways I felt like I was reading them for the first time! I love that each chapter ends with Scriptures to Think About, God Dare Secrets, and discussion questions that can also be used in a group study.

I also loved the 7 Spiritual Secrets and God Dare Enemies that Kate explains in detail. Kate authentically bares her soul and shares her truths, and sheds light on her own sins of the past, which I found powerful! She expresses her hopes that everyone graciously accepts God’s dare’s, no matter how big or obscure they are, they all matter.

I was deeply touched by Kate’s writing, her honesty, and her faithfulness in walking the path the Lord has laid out before her. The God Dare tenderly inspired, encouraged, and motivated me. Kate writes with a no-nonsense, “I’ve been there” approach which I find engaging and refreshing.

Her faithfulness, authenticity, wisdom, and passion were poured upon the pages of The God Dare and I love the sprinkles of light hearted humor Kate shares. I really enjoyed reading The God Dare. It awakened new possibilities for my life, God’s possibilities!! I recommend reading The God Dare, to be reminded that you are enough, and you do matter! The God Dare is the type of book you can reread and glean more from each time you read it.

When we get so busy, it is so easy to forget that God is with us always. He is listening and His Holy Spiriting is guiding us. All we need to do is slow down and open ourselves to receive His Holy Spirit.
