Excellent bit created by a lady that knows horses. Gentle and firm for the horse. Great bit if you have a poor relationship for some reason with an older horse or good for learning horses as well. This is now our go to bit.

Great bit, works wonders on my race bred mare. Gives control without being too harsh. Only thing that sucks is that the tiny locking carabeaners do not lock well, and are prone to slipping off.

Hey there! I’m the one review that’s got the big paragraph toting on how this bit is great with the most helpfuls. Please for everything that is in my soul, disregard that review because honestly I was uneducated on how gag bits truly worked and was being guided by folks who put tom thumbs and twisted wire curved snaffles backwards on the bridle (I’m NOT making this up either).

For the longest time I was sold on presignal and now that I understand how they work, gags offer no presignal at all. They are always engaged even at a rest, the horse cannot hold the bit comfortably in the mouth and they are very unstable.

Gag bits also, by nature and physics alone, pull the lips into the premolars when engaged. They also hollow out the back by telling the horse to lift the head (mouth pressure) and also lower the head (poll pressure), and this strings out the hind end.

You won’t ever have a collected horse in a gag bit and I’m EXTREMELY ashamed of my initial review. It’s well made, and it’s very light, but it is still a trash bit that has absolutely no place in a horse’s mouth.

No, “soft hands” is not an argument here. The gag bit will always be an issue even without reins attached. My horse went well in it because she didn’t have a choice. Any sort of protest or communication would have been immediately shut down by the bit’s conflicting cues, and I’d have ignored them had I not seen the videos or photos.

NOBODY wants to believe what they are doing is hurting their horse. We love our horses, all of us, at one point, even if we’re scared of hurt by one of them. We have ALWAYS loved our animals, from one end of the earth to another, and it takes a whole lot of work to admit you are wrong and that there are better ways.

I’d like to add the inventor of the original gag bit in the early 1900s advertised it as a tool of pain to get the horse to hurt in the mouth, so they could not get away from you. He admitted the bit was for pain, and under no circumstance did he dress it up with pretty words like softening the mouth, lifting the shoulder, and conforming gently to the tongue.

It just is physically impossible and even the inventor knew that. Makers need to get it together and stop leading new buyers astray. These bits do NOT function, CANNOT function as they are advertised.

It’s quite literally impossible. Please don’t make the same mistake as I did.

I started with a stainless steel argentine bit, which was great for teaching me to ride, and then training my horse in the finer points. He was always accepting of that bit. We then graduated to this Reinsman sweetwater bit, and my horse is even happier in it.

He transitioned very easily. Where we used to struggle with fast to slow transitions in the Argentine bit, we now have a much better response time. We ride trail, so my horse eats and drinks with this bit.

He’s very happy with it, and so am I.

I love this bit!!! My horse was struggling getting his tush under himself and on the bit and this made a huge difference. He now rounds up, has a slower and more collected canter and is very light in the bridle.

My horse has never accepted bits until I tried this one. I like that this bit has a nice smooth curved mouthpiece, doesn’t pinch him and he seems to enjoy the iron. I wish the price was a hair cheaper.

but I guess you get what you pay for because we both like it! 🙂 I think this bit is best for those with educated hands!.

This is the second HS bit I’ve purchased and am completely satisfied. I was so happy with the quality of the first that when I needed another, HS was a brand I searched for right way. After careful consideration, I decided to go with them again.

They aren’t the most expensive available but, they are on the more expensive side. Worth the price. Don’t waste your time with a lesser bit. The key, too, is that my horse liked it right away; no adjustment period.

Purchased to try a different feel as my sensitive horse was looking for a bit more refinement from the HS loose ring he had been in for a couple years. We both love it! I feel much more refinement is possible in this which is great as he is stepping up to more advanced work – toward medium level.

Bought this bit after I bought the D-ring for another horse. The horse I bought this for has a tendency to drop behind the contact due to his early training as a Western horse. I have a metal bit that he goes pretty well in, but when I saw how well the D-ring worked for my current retraining project I decided to try it on the former Western horse too – and it worked great! The habit of trying to drop behind even the lightest contact has significantly decreased – he reaches well forward and confidently to this bit.

I bought the loose ring for him because his training is much further along (so no steering issues) and this bit is much cheaper than the D-ring. Knocked it one star because it stains easily (grass and carrots).

Used this with a horse that had tongue issues and it has worked great. It can give you a feeling of your arms feeling ‘wooden’ as I have seen online before. My horse felt a bit strong in the reins but for such a short amount of time you need to use this bit (2-3 weeks), it has helped with the tongue issue.

We used this bit in combination with a flash noseband. We have since moved on to a bit that doesn’t place pressure on the tongue.

I’m not sure what’s going on with this bit. I’ve used it on 3 different horses and have had the same result each time. The bit’s dog bone appears to hang lower than it should, something that doesn’t typically happen with french-link style.

The other issue that’s been consistent with all of the horses I’ve ridden in this bit is that it slides to the right. The working theory my instructor have come to is that this all has something to do with the D-rings, which are MASSIVE.

The bit is good quality and my horse doesn’t seem to mind it peculiarities, but I’ll think twice before I order this brand a second time.

I bought this in a size 4 3/4″ after my new trainer suggested bringing my pony down to a snaffle from a ported kimberwicke. I know this isn’t a pony bit but 4 3/4″ is a relatively small size, so I wasn’t expecting the rings to be so enormous.

I had to adjust the cheek piece soo much to accomodate this bit – if the rings were any larger, I’d need a smaller bridle! She goes okay in this bit but by the end of the ride she’s chomping and chewing so much it’s hard to enjoy my ride – there’s just a lot to play with, and it’s easy for her to get a hold on it.

Once I get the new mullen mouth snaffle I ordered, I probably will not use this bit anymore.

I really like the mechanics of the bit but the workmanship is not what I expected. The metal is flattened a little where the shank attaches to the rings so that the bit catches a little at the rings.

The bit was made somewhere in Asia and the card that was attached to the bit was really funny because many words were horribly misspelled. Would love to have a bit like this that was made in America or somewhere where the workmanship was better.

I would pay for better workmanship.

Originally bought it for a horse that prefers a chain mouth over two or three PC bits. I have also used it on multiple horses with good results, one in particular has become really relaxed in this bit and she came to us having to use bigger bits on her because she is normally a nervous wreck.

Sometimes less is more. Durability: 5.

This has really helped with with the young horse I got it for. She has become way softer than before.

I was looking for something economically priced and similar to the Lagniappe Bit. This bit functions much the same and works well for me and my horse. It’s been a great addition to my bit collection.

This has a completely wrong description as an equine biomechanic and rehabilitation expert. I cannot believe valley vet would actually post this as a gentle or soft bit. No twisted snaffle with these kinds of cheek pieces could ever be considered “gentle” or “soft”.

This does not have the same mouthpiece as the original, this one is bigger and I was wanting the same mouthpiece. Little disappointing

I train and sell horses, so have bits in different horses mouths all day long. This Myler Bit is my most used bit in the barn, and always the first one I grab for. I try to switch all of my gaited horses over to this bit right off the bat, no matter what they are used to.

I would say, it works great on about 95% of them. There are a few that play with it, and get their tongue over the top, but most take right to it and ride more relaxed. I have sold hundreds and hundreds of these bits for Myler, because everyone that purchases a horse from me, orders one right away! I have found that the horses immediately begin relaxing, drop their heads, and loosen their gaits.

I have tried it on a few QH’s, and found that they also seem to like it over the broken bits they are used to. Gives just enough tongue relief, and is very mild in their mouth with the independent movement.

I purchased a new horse 10 years ago and my horse trainer recommended this bit then. He said he really liked the bit. So I purchased 2 and now I have another new hirse so I am purchasing the bir again as I really like it as does my new horse.
