Rack exactly as described by mfg. Good rugged rack. Not short any parts. Assembly went very well. Just fitted bike to rack on 3/18/20. have not transported bike yet, but see no problem with that either.

I use it on my RV a Winnebago Travato. I also have a spare tire on the back of the RV and this works fine with that. I tend to take back roads and so far this has done well. I also use this on my Jeep Wrangler with its OEM spare.

It fits either vehicle well. This is a great value. Workmanship and over all quality at such a low price is another reason I like it. Cost a lot less than racks 2 to 4 times its price. I am currently using it as a single carrier.

Loading and unloading this rack is really a non issue after I figured out a few things. I was concerned about the load/unload process since I am a viet nam veteran getting closer to 80 and have a bad back and a few other medical issues.

Was not too sure if this rack would stack up to the big name band types for the money. The reviews said it was good, but a bit heavy. I thought, ‘so what, it is on a trailer hitch’. The only thing I was initially disappointed in was that I thought it did not have a key lock for the hooks holding down the bike(s), but then discovered the key lock is hidden under a rubber cover.

The locking style is genius and works great. If you want a great unit and not wanting to pay the price of the well known companies (thus do not care about the ego of the others), then buy this one. 20 min to assemble WITHOUT reading the instructions was also great.

Best Buy when you do the research! If you check around there may also be a couple different prices but direct from the source is best and they even shipped free to Canada. You will find similar quality in the $400 and up range.

There are so many great racks these days it was a tough choice. Here’s some pros and cons from me having just installed and loaded this for the first time. * EXCELLENT: Easy to install. Unlike an IKEA bookshelf this unit is mostly pre-assembled.

Only 5 bolts were used. For some vehicle hitches a socket wrench is likely a better choice than a crescent wrench (which is what the instructions suggest). Written instructions and diagrams were excellent.

* EXCELLENT: Bikes seem very well secured, with tire-only contact. * GOOD: Looks nice. There are other racks that look more cool or high tech, but this thing looks polished enough, and much better looking than my previous rust bucket rack * GOOD: Integrated locking system.

It is so well integrated that at first I thought I was missing something “wait, wasn’t this supposed to have some kind of locking feature?” I found the cables after a moment and found them easy to use.

I would prefer it if they were a little longer and tougher looking (more visual deterrent to someone thinking about using bolt cutters). Also, I wish they were partially retractable for times you don’t need the full length.

making it harder to get a good angle with a grinder or cutter. GOOD: Isolating bikes from each other. Make no mistake it will always be a jigsaw puzzle fitting 4 full size bikes in such a small space (and to be fair I have only loaded two so far), but with the offset positioning of the wheel trays, etc.

I am feeling good about my chances. Also, once the bikes are clamped, they can’t really move at all so I don’t expect to see unexpected contact from swaying, etc. * MEH: Plastic wheel trays and straps feel vulnerable to breaking.

I am trying to take it easy on them after reading of others accidentally breaking them. * MEH: Easier to load than my last rack, but not as fluid to load as an upright system like Velocirax, Alta, Recon, etc.

You need a strong and long-limbed adult to lift each bike up and into place before securing. Since you are trying to hold the bike horizontally in the air and control both wheel positions at the same time, it feels more physically challenging than just hoisting a front wheel into a basket Velocirax style.

* MEH: The rectangular tubing shaft which goes into the receiver hitch didn’t fit tightly in my receiver, allowing for some wiggle with other the poor hitch bolt to handle potential swaying/twisting loads.

I think I will add one of those tightener accessories to lock down the interface more Once I have more experience with it I will update with any major new pros or cons.

Have owned this bike rack for 6 mos and very pleased with it. Load mostly all mountain bikes without issues once you figure out ideal loading order of your various bike sizes. My only gripe is the clunky threaded metal piece or bracket that goes inside the of the rack arm that enters the hitch on my vehicle.

Have to carefully place and slide in so that thread stays aligned to where bolt goes in, otherwise you have fish for it and pull it out again, reset it and try again. This could have easily been resolved by making a better fitting threaded bracket instead of having to fish for it if not aligned perfectly.

Otherwise as stated before, very pleased with the overall quality and steadiness. Haves used the locks as well. No issues. Would definitely recommend and would buy again especially since I am able to put on and take off fairly easily due to manageable weight of the rack which is below 80# compared to competitors.

If you are contemplating needing a solid rack that is adjustable and will carry a variety of sizes of bikes, then this is your answer. I replaced my Kuat that I had that was very clunky and a total pain to use with this Saris Superclamp EX.

The hitch mount is very straight forward and the mechanisms, mounting trays, and wheel clamps are very sturdy compared to others what I have used before. Once mounted to the vehicle the rack is super sturdy and does not move like some cheaper racks.

I am running a 29er, 27. 5, and a 24 inch bike, but it will also accomodate a smaller 20 inch bike as well. When you have it collapsed and upright, it is very easy to get it in/out of the hitch mounts to take it on/off.

This rack is worth every penny and replacement parts are readily available if needed as well but I haven’t had any issues with mine. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

The MonoRail is a solid, capable rack but has a major design flaw: it is incompatible with Subaru Foresters. After a short 2 hour road trip, I was shocked to find that the front bike cup melted (see picture).

Upon contacting RockyMounts for support, they referred me to a warning in small print buried in their user manual that states to “check the car exhaust is not pointing at the rack, bike tires, or rims” and said this damage would not be under warranty.

Of course, one only knows about the user manual if you purchase the rack; it is not posted on the REI website. RockMounts then offered to sell me a $60 hitch extender to push the rack farther away from the car and alternatively suggested I could modify my exhaust.

A hitch extender solution is frustrating because (a) the exhaust would still be pointing at the rack, just from father away so still violating the very warning they referred me to, (b) it’s a terrible engineering solution, as extending away from the car significantly increase the torque on the rack, decreasing the weight limit, and (c) it’s a frustrating feeling to be told to buy a $60 part on a $540 rack.

That’s terrible support. I appreciate that I purchased this rack at REI and so was able to return with little hassle. However, I am very frustrated at RockyMounts and REI for not specifically stating in the product description that this rack is incompatible with Subaru Foresters unless one purchases additional hitch extender accessories (only sold on RockMounts.

com, not REI!) or modifies ones car. The incompatibility should be stated clearly for customers to know to avoid this rack if they own a Forester.

I really love this rack! The ease of use and the simplicity of mounting and dismounting a bike is so good. The rack holds bikes very securely and provides room for two bikes to easily fit side by side.

The wheel tray adjusts to allow a large mountian bike or a skinny wheeled road bike to fit comforably on the rack. I like the simple, yet secure locking system. Easy to secure my bikes when I walk away.

I also like the tilt away feature which allows me to keep the bikes on the rack and still have access to the vehicles hatch. Love, love this rack!!!.

I live on Vancouver Island where we receive a fair amount of precipitation and the bike is on the car all year round. I bought this rack a few years ago. The arms rusted very quickly and wrecked the plastic at the arms joints.

Yakima was good about the warranty claim and replaced the first set of arms, but the second set quickly followed in the same footsteps as the first. 4 years later and I’m in the market for a new rack.

It rusted very quickly and is now super wobbly. If you can take good care of this rack, it’ll last a long time. If you’re like me and this thing is a year-round necessity, look for something a little more rugged.

I researched for months before I decided this was the most functional rack based on specifications and reviews. I’m returning the favor with my review. First and foremost, Backcountry’s shipping speed consistently impresses.

At a whopping 53 pounds, this rack is easily lifted using both upper extremities and proper body mechanics. It’s sits a little higher than my previous Yakima, which I owned for 4 years before I started to notice rust that came from washing my bike while on the rack and not drying it.

That was on me. Once loaded onto hitch, I really appreciate the knob mechanism used to secure rack to reduce excess movement. The hitch pin included easily slides through right side opening and locks of left.

Unfold it by pulling a hefty lever that’s easily accessible, and assist by passively lowering until it sits horizontally. Because the rack sits a little higher than my previous hitch, I have to raise my bike a bit more to load it, but, I’m also 5 feet short.

Front tire hook is solid, and rear tire cinch is a breeze. I will say that my previous hitch had a loop to anchor down rear tire cinch to keep it out of the way while I loaded my bike. It’s the only thing missing on this rack to give it a perfect rating.

It also comes with magnetic tie downs that require a key, which comes in handy while making a quick pit stop and fear your bike may get snatched. I almost forgot to mention I purchased it at a discounted total of 735.

This is my second bike rack purchase, and I have faith that it may be my last, as it looks like it is designed to outlive us all! It is so beautiful, to boot. I was able to build it myself in about half an hour, although two people would have made the job much easier.

I have zero hesitations that this rack will allow me to transport my bikes all over the country or across town without missing a beat. I originally had a popular entry-level rack from a big box store that worked and got the job done for short distances, but my affections for it faded when I realized the way it held the bikes in places was dangerous for my carbon bike.

Which is where this Kuat NV 2. 0 enters the picture, because it’s designed to accommodate carbon fiber bikes, among other specialty situations like fat tire bikes (with adapter) or heavier e-bikes. One thing that did delay the overall finale of my installation was the hitch anti-wobble device.

The old rack I used had a locking pin that prevented wobble (but there always was some even with that), but this Kuat rack has a fancy mechanism that stabilizes the rack from inside the hitch. I thought I was tightening it correctly, but was shocked at how much movement there was and assumed I must be missing something.

I have no idea why this info isn’t in the manual, since so many people complain about wobble with this rack: when you’ve placed the rack into the hitch and have inserted the provided hitch pin with lock 1) Stop and take a breath 2) firmly pull the rack TOWARDS you *all the way until it stops against the pin* 3) THEN tighten the hitch stabilization device according to the manual (turn the knob by hand until you can’t anymore).

I promise you this solved my problem and there was no more wobble! It is the most solid rack I’ve ever used, and I thank the person who provides this advice on the depths of the internet. Yes, this rack is pricey but the convenience of having it fold up and down, the solid engineering, and the beauty it adds make it worthwhile! Just buy one already!.

There are tons of good hitch racks out there but after owning this for a whole season one thing has stuck out to me, everyone that sees this says something about how great and durable Kuat racks are; “they’re the best”.

That being said, I chose this over other racks because it still has a traditional locking hitch pin. It was relatively easy to assemble but you might want someone to help hold the pieces while you tighten the bolts.

I’ll summarize most of this by saying everything about this rack just works how it should! It’s extremely stable, there is no rattling or moving, even with 40lb touring bikes. You can grab the rack and move the entire vehicle up and down, there’s no play.

Every part of the rack just feels burly and durable. The powder-coated finish holds up great and looks great. It can fit different types of bikes, and just requires longer rear wheel straps to fit Fat Bikes.

The trays are spaced far apart, and some bikes even stand-upright in the rack by themselves while you get the arm ready. Even with MTB pedals and handlebars I can tilt the rack and open the hatch on my 4runner, and it’s very easy to install and remove from a vehicle if you don’t want to leave it on all the time (pro-tip, make a rolling stand for the rack using a cheap $10 roller dolly, google it).

I have really enjoyed owning and using this rack. Some things to note that keep this rack from being perfect: -The rack sits pretty far off the car, but it’s also raised upward and tilted forward a bit.

Depending on your vehicle you may love this (extra ground clearance), but it’s caused two problems for me: I cannot put the tailgate down on my truck, the rack sits too high. Also, I had this on a friends van and wide MTB handlebars hit the rear window.

Other than that it fits most vehicles extremely well, I primarily use this on a 4runner and have no problems at all. -There could be more adjustability, I’ve had 1 bike combo that required me to let most of the air out of the rear tire of a bike, the rack simply didn’t adjust enough to prevent the handlebar/seat interference.

This would definitely be a problem with MTBs if you don’t have dropper posts. -The dust covers for all the locks on the rack are extremely difficult to remove. It can be frustrating and almost impossible if it’s wet and cold.

Overall it’s been a great rack and I can tell it’s going to last a long time. Hope this review helps you make a decision.

Purchased our matt black Kuat NV Base 2. 0 bike rack to transport our two Gazelle Ultimate T10 HHMB eBikes. The bikes weigh 51 pounds each so we were looking for a rack that would easily support that weight.

After doing our research, talking to several bike store owners and reading reviews, it was quite clear the Kuat rack was the right choice. Additional factors that influenced our choice, the integrated cable lock – hitch lock system and the Kuat bike ramp accessory.

My wife and I are in our 60’s and the bike ramp makes rolling the 51 lb. bikes into the rack quite easy rather than lifting them up and into the rack. Installation was very easy, taking about 15 minutes to assemble.

Instructions are very clear and all of the tools you need are provided with the rack. Our rack is attached to a Nissan Frontier pickup truck with a factory installed 2″ trailer hitch. The truck tailgate can be folded down completely when the rack is down and no bikes in the carriers and the rack can be folded out of the way with a simple lever.

We are very impressed with the fit/finish/quality of this rack. We could not be more pleased with our purchase.

I’ve had this rack for several years and put it through lots of miles. I figured it looked well built and top of the line and I wanted the best rack. Well, that has not been my experience. We started with the 2 bike rack and added the 2 bike extension.

After a few long road trips, the thing started breaking apart at the hinge and eventually, when we were 600 miles from home, the hinge broke completely and we had to hold it together with rope and duct tape to get it home.

Kuat warrantied all the broken parts, but I had to spend about 3 hours totally disassembling the mechanism and rebuilding it, which was difficult with all the bent bolts and corrosion. After the rebuild, it wasn’t long before it started to fall apart again.

The hinge got stiff and hard to actuate, the retractable locks all became corroded and useless. We’ve not been able to get one to reliably lock or unlock for a few years now, despite tons of grease and cleaning.

We ended up removing the 2 bike extension because the main pillar developed a bend in it just bouncing down the highway. We’ve only ever loaded sub 18lb road bikes and sub 24lb mountain bikes. Now the bars won’t fully retract or telescope and only one of the 2 remaining bars will even hold a 29″ wheel.

We have to bungee the bike to keep it from moving. And to add insult to injury, the bars rub the paint off your road bike forks so all our bikes have helicopter tape where they touch the rack. Overpriced, poorly designed eye candy.

Sorry I ever bought this thing. Going to a OneUp or similar design that only touches the tires.

I debated on a 3 or 4 rating, more about that later. We needed a new rack to accommodate my wife’s new ebike, Giant LaFree E+2. Her new bike is a step though and our old rack can’t handle the weight (51#) and has centered clamp down bars which won’t work for a step through.

I also wasn’t looking to spend a king’s ransom for one, especially since this isn’t used for long distance driving, just an hour or so at most. This rack seemed to fit the bill. Bonus points that it’s made in my home state and was in stock at my bike shop.

Overall it’s solid and well made. I am not thrilled about all the plastic but the flexibility in the frame clamps is well thought out, and the frame cradles work well for the ebike frame and my steel framed hybrid bike.

I’m a little concerned about the ability of the top cradle to hold my bike without breaking, which is lighter but mounts on the outside, so I’m wrapping my wife’s Kryptonite lock around the top bar just in case.

Once mounted the bikes stay firmly in place and seem secure. The issues I’ve had with it are that it’s designed to be more or less long term mounted based on the screw type hitch pin that’s provided.

I had to remove the square nut in the tube insert to use a standard hitch pin for easy removal. It’s also designed for a 1 ¼” receiver with an adaptor sleeve for a 2″. I tow a travel trailer as well as a utility trailer so long term mounting is out of the question.

The notion of being used with a 2″ receiver seems to have been an afterthought by the designers. The fit of the adaptor sleeve in my truck’s receiver is sloppy, and the fit of the sleeve over the rack tube is sloppy.

The single screw to hold the sleeve adaptor on isn’t for sturdiness, just to keep it from coming off. The hitch pin hole is ½” for a 1 ¼” receiver, so between all this slop, with 80# of bikes, it rocks back and forth like crazy.

I had to do 2 things to minimize the rocking to a tolerable level. First I bought a Brophy Stabilizer Bracket, at $63 not cheap, but it’s made specifically to tame hitch mounted bike and cargo racks.

Evidently this is a common issue with bike racks, though we had no real problems with our previous rack. The second thing was to drill out the hitch pin hole to ⅝” to accommodate a proper ⅝” hitch lock.

It still rocks, but is tolerable and rocks no more than our previous rack. I’m also planning on adding screws to the 2” adaptor sleeve to provide more stability. My recommendation to Saris would be to get rid of the cheesy plastic insert in the tube.

Provide two steel inserts, one to fit a ⅝” hitch pin, one to fit a ½” hitch pin. Add two screws to the sunk in channels in the 2” adaptor sleeve to tighten the sleeve on and stabilize the combination.

It took about 10 minutes to put together. Adjusting left, right, turn the bikes around, adjusting again and again took some time to get them to fit without touching. This is not the fault of the bike rack, it’s the bicycles.

Save some time and put the rear tire of the inner bike to the far left. Then the rear tire of the outer bike to the far right and adjust. One 6 mm lock nut was missing on the underside of the tire restraint.

This is my only reason for the 4 star rating. Believe it or not I found one at Lowes. Saris should check these before shipping! The rack is not super tight but does the job. It holds the bikes in place, no scratches or damage to the bikes.

I set the center restraints on the bottom side of the down tube. This makes for very easy loading. I set the bikes in and they hold the bikes it in place while I set the straps. I really like the design of this rack with the center adjusting restraints.

Very well engineered!!!.

We have a Batch step over and a Electra/Townie step thru. The rack’s short clamp arm forces the step thru be shifted to one side, unless you are willing to clamp the low horizontal bar. That would have meant more upper unrestricted weight motions.

So we have to shift the Batch in the opposite direction to balance the weight. This will limit the bikes twisting the rack back and forth. A little trial and error. And the Electra has a chain guard which we place facing away from the center bar of the rack.

Fortunately the Swagman works so well as to make balancing easy. This is a really nice bike rack. We do use one bungee cord to hold the bikes together at the top.

This is my second Swagman hitch mount. We have a Chinook that after a year’s use started bending back to a point where we contacted Swagman (sent them a picture). They sent us a replacement part no charge.

The replacement later had a problem where the nut inside the main bracket somehow broke. Again Swagman sent a replacement part. We were using the 2″ adapter on the RV and the standard 1 1/4″ on our car when transporting our e-bikes.

We always remove the batteries to bring the weight down well below 35lbs each. We decided to get a separate bike mount for the RV and saw the e-spec. Figured that with a higher weight rating that we’d be better off.

Unfortunately the e-bike handlebars now hit the back of the RV. Our solution was to bungee cord the bikes to each other to pull them in. This gave us about 3 inches clearance after adding some socks over the handlebar and covering the bikes.

We haven’t done a road trip yet, that’s coming up soon. I’m hoping the 2″ receiver is more taught and that the bikes don’t bounce into the RV while traveling. Hoping we don’t damage the bikes. I like the single key for the locks.

Nice improvement. Just thought I’d warn others considering this mount. —- added —– Mount worked fine on its initial road trip. Very solid. Bikes didn’t hit the back of the RV.

Built to survive the Zombie Apocalypse. Assembles most easily on the back of your vehicle’s trailer hitch. Assembly instructions are slightly cryptic. Watch out for the tiny holes on the ends of the long pieces.

they gotta point down when assembled. The main place where the bike carrier attaches to your trailer hitch, you may be used to seeing a smooth shaft and Cotter pin, but this kit replaces that with a hefty bolt that mates with threads in the carrier’s insertion piece.

After you get through tightening that bolt you’ll realize it ain’t comin’ off very easily. It’s a semi-permanent installation. It allows access to my 2010 4Runner’s back, and sticks out 16. 5 inches beyond the back bumper, so the ultrasonic backup alert on my 4Runner is no longer useful.

The metal parts should last centuries.

You’ve seen it before, the guy that doesn’t write reviews! That’s me…. This is the exception, and it’s because I’m impressed. I’ve only had this unit a week, used it on local roads and now on the interstate.

Setup initially was easy and use is a little timely but worth it for the security of expense bikes. We are transporting an Ebike and a standard stepthru and hookup works just fine. The rack itself is heavy, but with the use of the attached wheels moving it about the garage to the rear of the vehicle is a breeze.

(Included is a nice cover for storage. ) Plug in the unit before attempting to place it into the hitch and raise or lower the receiver so they align allows easy installation of the rack onto the vehicle.

Beware this is a 7 pin connector to accommodate lighting and power! The rear lighting package is an added safety feature with the extended mass of today’s Ebikes. Note, this rack accommodates tires only up to 3 inches.

Why lift those 50 lbs. + bikes? Save your back and the energy for the ride!.

I picked up my bike rack and asked if it would be difficult to attach to my car. ‘Oh no, not at all – it only takes a few minutes. ‘ In that case, I said, can you please put it on my car for me? ‘no, for that you need an appointment.

‘ But I came specifically from Carpinteria to pick this up. ‘Well, sorry!’ It was an older gentleman and I believe his name was John. He seemed to know everything and was teaching the nice employee how to look up packages, etc.

This was such a disappointment to me. I absolutely love REI and consider myself a very good customer. The rack is still sitting in the garage and I haven’ opened the box yet.

We used the Door County once so far, and the product is really good. However, be aware that using on a Ford F-150 requires 2 people due to a Ford safety feature which requires a driver in the vehicle having a foot on the brake while a second person operates the control key when the Saris is connected to the hitch.

While this isn’t Saris’s fault, it would have been good to know ahead of time. We thought there was something wrong when the controls would not work! I am also contacting Ford about the issue as I feel there should be a way to override the feature when using a bike rack.

All in all, it works well, bikes were secure. We have a Townie Go e-bike and a regular Townie. Happy with purchase overall.

I don’t think I’ve written a negative review before but I want people to know what they’re getting into. Full disclosure, I bought this used off OfferUp. Bought it based on the reputation and wanted something reliable for a cross country road trip with 5k of bikes on the back.

At first I was pumped on this rack, I’ve had many bike racks and this seemed like the best! But one of the ratcheting arms started to get quieter than the others (less engagement?). Then somewhere between California and Texas that arm started moving freely and not locking at all.

I did the seat belt trick and pulled it all the way down then back up again and I got it to lock. Finished the trip and now all the ratchet arms are quieter and the trick of moving it all the way doesn’t engage the locking mechanism on the bad one.

It doesn’t lock in my back wheel. Talked to tech support to see what I could do. They said it needs a new arm for $125. That’s $500 + tax if I replace all of them. And what’s to say those hold up? I don’t think Saris owes me anything, but I also don’t think this is tied with ONE UP for the best rack on the market and before you buy, you should know.

It’s not reliable to me anymore and for me replacement cost is not going to be spent on a new Saris product. I can’t justify it.

This thing’s easy to use and the bike feels secure. The pin is easy to get in and out. Both the tool-less one and the regular bolt head one work fine. I find it just as easy to tighten down the regular ne down with a ratchet as to turn the tool-less one.

The rack is well made and the powder coat looks great. That actually leads to my only complaint. When I got the rack it would only go about an inch into my new Drawtite 36601 receiver and then would get stuck.

I took it over to the place that installed the receiver and the filed out the inside to make sure there were no burs. They determined there was too much powder coat on the MTH and it was too thick. I cringed as I saw them take a giant file to it and start removing material, but it did the trick.

After a few minutes of filing and putting a little grease on, it now goes in and out easily. I took off 1 star for having to have that done, but otherwise everything is perfect!.

I chose this rack primarily for 3 reasons: 1) ability to take bikes of all flavor without adapters; 2) holding bike without touching frame or fork; 3) foldability of trays providing easy trunk access for my dogs.

The rack delivers on all three very well, better than any competitor. However, the rack is not perfect (what is?). The construction quality is not up to the standards of Kuat, nor is the tool-free tightening method.

The Kuat I could have on and off in less than 30 seconds, with the Saris and the pin tightening approach, it takes much longer. I used to take the Kuat on and off, but with the Saris it’s too much of a pain and I just leave it on.

Durability of the rack is also not as good as the Kuat. It’s a mixture of painted aluminum and painted steel, and the paint is not very durable on either one. Saris has been nice about replacing parts that start to look old, but I’d much rather avoid the waste and the hassle and have a rack that continues to look good without having to resort to such things.

I also had an issue in the winter where snow/salt got into one of the mechanisms and prevented the arm from locking in place. Luckily this happened between rides, and not during a drive to ride – I could take it apart in my garage and clean it out, which took 20 minutes, but got it working again – had it happened on a drive to the trailhead, I’m not sure I could have gotten the (second) bike home again.

I purchased the Glide EX 4 the summer of 2019 and used it a lot as the boys ride to school and I’d have to pick them up for appointments so I put the bikes on the rack. We also used it to go to many parks to ride the trails.

Then I was rear-ended doing a retirement teacher parade during COVID in June 2020 and found out there was a waitlist as everything was sold out. I opted for the Glide EX 5-bike rack this time as we take my son’s friends along to some of the parks.

This is American made and solidly built. I love that I can access my SUV without having to remove all the bikes from the rack. It is solid and doesn’t shake or vibrate. It is easy to install. I did have my son hold it while I used the socket wrench.

Thank you for making such a quality product and for creating a waiting list. Would you consider making a bike rack cover (similar to the jeep wrangler tire covers???? – just a thought – if I could make them I would, I got rid of my sewing machine a decade ago).

Just installed it today for the first time and we got all 5 bikes loaded on, with a little finessing. My only complaint is that we have 2 adult XS sized bikes, and the frames aren’t large enough to fit the rack’s standard clips, so we had to buy the Saris bike beams (each $50) to load them, an upcharge I wasn’t anticipating after spending this much on the rack already.

Also, my kids’ bikes are too small to use the bike beams, so we had a tough time getting their bikes in using the clips since the bikes are smaller than standard. But – we got all 5 loaded and drove the car a bit to test it out; went up to 65mph and they all stayed on board.

Hoping it works when we vacation! Glide feature is awesome and install/setup was a breeze.

We were so pleased to be able to find this in stock. Finding a rack to accommodate 5 bikes is not easy. We arepleased with the rack. Installation the first time was a learnig curve for us, but the second time was smoother.

We really like the ability to adjust the rack position to allow the minivan trunk to open. However, as a family with younger kids and women, we needed to get adapters for all bikes except mine (adult male bike).

That was a considerable additional expense.

I purchased this unit for an ebike (Trek Allant +7). Due to the weight of the bike, the presence of fenders and the easy-entry configuration of the frame (downtube only), very few bike racks were compatible.

No assembly is required on the rack and it comes with locks for both bikes and the hitch. It is fairly light, folds in a small package for storage and has a ramp to roll the bike. It has the expanding feature in the hitch receiver that prevents wobble and noise.

The locking mechanism however for the bikes and hitch is of an older generation, goes back to 30 years ago, at least. It disengages the handle from the nut, preventing theft, but does nothing to positively secure the nut in place against vibration from the road.

This has to be done by applying a certain pre-load which is ok for the hitch portion, but not recommended on todays thin aluminum or carbon frames. So you have to tighten enough to prevent losing your bike on the road but not too much so as to not damage the frame.

My old Thule roof rack had this type of lock and for sure I had the unpleasant surprise of arriving home one day with the nut loosen. Luckily the bike had not fallen sideways from the roof but I was not far for from this happening.

The Big Mouth generation of roof racks that followed solved that issue with a positive locking mechanism. It is a sad thing that Thule put back in service here some hardware from 30 years ago that had known flaws.

The second serious issue with this bike rack is that it is difficult on some bike configuration to secure the bike frame with the top mounting soft jaw. It requires a lot of adjustment and swapping of the short arm position with the longer arm position, and moving the bikes back and forth, to reach a configuration that works.

Most of the time, the jaw will end up grabbing the frame sideways, not perpendicular, and the grip will be far from optimal, having edges instead of surfaces contacting the frame, which makes you want to apply even less pressure to the jaw in order not to dent the frame, with an increased risk of loosening on the road.

It is actually so time consuming that the only bike I put on the rack is my wife’s ebike, on which the jaw grips perfectly, and I keep putting my bike on the roof because it is quicker to do so, and I feel safer having it there.

I am not surprised to read the comments from people on the Thule site that they have lost their bike with this rack. It is not a mistake proof bike rack and I can see why this happens. Nothing beats the reliability, universality and ease of use of a Big Mouth rack, if only they could adapt it to a hitch mount, and make it accept big tires.

Bottom line, this rack is good but not good enough, Thule you can do better and re-commissioning old hardware that had known issue 30 years ago is a big no no. Good corporations are those that design with best practices that are continuously updated based on their lessons learned.

You have not done so here. You need a version 2 of this rack, ASAP.

I purchased this bike rack in October of 2021. On 10/25/21 I posted the following review on the REI website where we purchased the bike and also on the Thule site. Thule refused to publish my review indicating it did not meet their criteria.

Instead they pretended to work with us, asking us to submit proof of purchase and the receipt for repair of our bike due to the faulty control arms. They promised to send us a new arm and to activate our case.

We have heard nothing. Please read my original politely stated, respectful but rejected review: Caution! We have had nothing but trouble with the control arms that hold the bikes upright. Our first incident occurred while highway driving when the longer control arm came off and the bikes fell backward, dragging on the ground at 60mph.

The cost to fix the handle bar, brake level assembly and replacement mirror was over $200. We assumed the fault was ours, thinking maybe we had not completely fastened the control arm to the bike bar.

After this incident we were very careful to fasten the control arm securely and added nylon rope as an additional precaution. Our most recent incident involved removing the shorter control arm and placing it in our trunk where we keep the arms when not in use.

Today when we retrieved the control arm there was a part missing. The hinged clamp must have come apart and fallen off. We found it but it had been run over and destroyed. We called Thule customer service and spoke to a helpful gentleman who will order a replacement part for the arm but he cannot guarantee when it will arrive.

We have had Thule products in the past and have always been satisfied, however, we will have to delay our planned travel and no longer have any trust in this bike carrier. I have never written a negative review before, but Ido not wish this problem on another customer.

Due to my car only having a class 1 hitch with a 1. 25” receiver, I had a limited selection when purchasing a platform style bike rack for my Ebike. I also have limited storage space so the compact size and lighter weight was a big part of my decision.

I own a step-thru Magnum Cosmo X. (Awesome bike. ) It has 2. 35” tires. The tires just fit on this rack. The ramp is somewhat useless because it’s flimsy and moves around when attached to the rack. It’s hard to keep in place.

My bike weighs 52 lbs without the battery. When placing it on the rack it does not stay very well in the tracks. Slips around. It’s cumbersome trying to hold a heavy bike still and try strapping down the tires since the track is so shallow.

The two grips in the middle are very restrictive to use. These are only designed for bikes with smaller cross bars located at a specific heights. The curved bar that the grips are connected to seems too low.

I wasn’t able to connect either grip to my bike’s thicker frame in a way that I’m confident will hold. I ordered a cross bar. Hopefully that will be sufficient. I’m also going to use straps just to be on the safe side.

I’ll keep this rack because of it’s size but it wasn’t the best choice for a step-thru model.

This is my first hitch platform bike rack and I researched many options before ending up picking this one. What I was looking for: – easy load/unload as I am planning on riding every day with my kid after school – small enough to not block rear view window and camera when folded as I am leaving this on for most of the season – no frame contact and no hanging as most bike frames will need extra bars for this – fold down with bikes loaded to have access to trunk – fold away to access trunk when rack is in stored upright position – fit on a Tesla Model Y 2″ factory hitch which has a 250lbs limit, tight bumper clearance and limited room for a hitch pin due to the hitch connector (wiring) – option to add more bikes in future when 2nd kid’s bike gets too big for trunk – not too heavy so it is easy to move between cars and In the past I have used Thule as the go to brand for roof racks, ski carriers etc.

, but to find something that worked for me I looked at most brands including Yakima, Hollywood, Kuat, 1UP and Sarris. While 1UP racks and Kuat’s NV 2. 0 were offering a few more features, they were nearly twice the price and both would have blocked my backup camera in the closed upright position.

What I like: – U shape design doesn’t block the backup camera in upright position – most parking sensors are not ‘complaining’ when backing up with rack in upright position – when bikes are loaded I still have good visibility through the rear view window, only seeing the handle bar and seat of the tallest bike – very simple to load/unload a bike with the strap and the handle, bike sits firm on rack – U shape design lets you walk straight up to each bike when (un)loading the bikes – Fits the Model Y hitch well, leaving enough clearance in upright (closed) position and with bikes loaded – It is not super light, but easy to handle by one person and still can hold heavier bikes Some concerns that might matter to you: – you can only buy a 1 bike add-on for this rack vs the more expensive platform racks from 1UP, Thule or the Kuat NV that allow you to expand with 2 more bikes – it requires assembly.

It isn’t difficult and all tools are included, but the instructions are brief and you are pretty much building the whole rack. Best to read a couple of steps ahead and look at the pictures to verify the correct position of some pieces before putting it together.

– The rack isn’t ‘secured’ to your hitch. Kuat’s ‘secure tool’ to tighten the rack to your hitch is an Allen Key with a hole that fits over the little pin inside the hex bolt. My new set of Allen Keys already came with that hole, so not sure how ‘secure’ this really is.

You will have to buy a hitch pin with a lock to prevent this. – This rack has 3 positions: upright (closed), open (with bikes loaded), lowered (when you need access to trunk with bikes already loaded).

It does NOT have a position that would move the upright rack a little bit out of the way to open the trunk. So keeping this rack on the back of your car at all times means that you will have to lower the rack completely to load groceries.

– There is a lot of plastic on this rack. All parts are made of plastic except for the main U bar that attaches to your hitch and the two bars that hold the handles that grab the tires. I had expected the hinges to be metal, but it is plastic rubbing on plastic.

The handles that grab the tire are plastic and ratchet on the metal bar to get tight. All in all It is sturdy and I am not worried about my bikes, but I am not sure how long it will last considering the wear on the plastic moving parts.

For the price it is a great starter platform bike rack with bike add-on option that fits my car and bikes well and I can live with the above concerns.

Just got this rack to give as a gift, but I put it together and have mounted and tested it, and the Transfer V2 reflects all the qualities that I’ve experienced with Küat products. I already have two Küat racks (NV 2.

0 and old-style Sherpa), plus a roof basket (Vagabond X), and even some other Küat stuff like the bottle-cage locks ( a great and handy product, and all of mine still work beautifully). Everything I’ve ever gotten from them has proven to be the most innovative products on the market, well-designed, and built with the highest degree of quality and durability.

I don’t even bother to look elsewhere for racks – They’re simply the best by every measure. Even on those rare occasions when I’ve had to seek support for a product, their help has been exactly on target, and the people whom I’ve talked to have always been super friendly and have gotten whatever I needed to me right away – So in addition to everything else I’ve mentioned, even their customer service in my experience is unexcelled.

The rack I use depends on the bikes I’m carrying. So I use my Küats to carry everything from road bikes to a Stumpjumper 650B fatty to a 29er hardtail to Specialized Jett 20″ kids bikes, handsome others in between.

My racks are the quickest and simplest to mount and use, the sturdiest, and the most secure under all conditions, from highway to rugged 4WD off-road, for any bikes I want to carry. Period.

Bought this a few weeks back for a camping trip and have been using it heavily over the last week. Here is the good, once assembled this thing is great. Easy to use, very sturdy, and loading and unloading bikes is a breeze.

Actually I really love it now. But there was a lot of pain to get to that love. Assembly on this was horrible. Let me preface this by saying half of my furniture is IKEA, and I am a pretty handy DIY guy.

So I can say when a price is really just poor design. This company really needs a better design for assembly and QC. The holes did not even align. My wife and I spent 40 min on just the first step because the holes in the pieces were not aligned properly.

Finally I got fed up and used my drill to drill through the metal and plastic and enlarge them. Only then was I able to complete assembly. Very frustrating. If the company fixed the assembly process, 5 stars.

great rack, but cable lock sticks to the point of being unusable

I have been looking for a rack that has low pannier mounts that allow me to mount the panniers so they won’t interfere with a rack time or Topeak MTX type slide/snap-on bag. This has that. It also doesn’t have such low mounted rear supports that it interferes with my BOB trailer mount.

Great finish, easy mount, cool selection of accessories that I wish were more available in the US. I’m happy with the purchase.

Got this rack because it has multiple levels. Very useful for that purpose, solid rack and things attach easily. One thing is that the attachments to the seatstays were way too long for my bike and I had to hacksaw a length off each.

This is a great front rack but I rarely use it. The reason is I use the rear rack snd center console but I’ve mounted it on the bike a few times snd had it mounted upside down with a standard red light on it and used it’s nearly 5”45 degree tilt as a base fkr a foam fairing windshield made out of part of an execute foam mat at first for narrow foam wind protection but also uses a nearly full piece of foam from those puzzle pieces cutting off the foam edges or puzzle pieces for the top snd side edges.

I mounted one foam wind fairing with one piece of exercise foam mat with the mat facing diagonally and used zip ties to give it a kind of unique component curve design. The top of the foam windshield would flex creating a variable angle wind fairing but I could put stops on it or design it to shape the temporary experimental wind fairings.

I really like the accessories I’m able to design and experiment using exercise foam mats. They can be functional and get more attention which is good for the road and affordable and cheap to build but it takes sone time to tinker.

With my red ebike as there is no gas involved I can bring the bike into my living room and store it here inside and tinker with it and experiment endlessly for more fun. I bought the large platform for the front snd rear of my red runner plus I have not used the large platform on the front and I may never need it but I have it in case I think I need it.

Life the accessories I can get with a rad bike. People in Michigan constantly complement me on the bike when I’m near it or on it. Love the red runner plus and the large platform adapter. Attached is picture of the three pizza insulated box from rad mounted on my rad runner plus with a foam fairing I made from two pieces of exercise foam/.

Added lights and even a pizza sign on it for visibility and attention and drivers notice this when it’s going down the road. I love adding lights and color to the bike to make a visual spectacle: the more attention I get when on the road the safer I feel.

Also added what my bike looked like around the Christmas holiday. More lights in the dark help me ride at night with cars giving me more leeway. I even had a secret Santa stop snd give me $100 and they thought I was a pizza delivery guy.

So having more lights can be a bonus as you are seen and noticed.

I received this rack along with my bike order however when I went to put it on the bike (and while attaching the headlamp to this front rack) I found that I am missing a cord to attach the headlamp to the main power line on the bike.

I called and reported this issue and was told a hardware kit would be sent out to replace the missing necessary item. I’ve called several times and still haven’t received the kit or any information as to when it will be delivered, as it still hasn’t shipped out.

I am not going to put the rack on, only to have to take it off later to put the headlamp on it. I really was hoping to be able to put everything together at once and be done, but it is taking several weeks to sort out the receipt of the missing parts.

I have heard many glowing reviews of this company, but considering I have received 3 items with missing hardware/pieces and slow response in getting the missing items, I am rather disappointed.

First the rack didn’t come with a machine thread bolt to attach the light mount to the bottom of the rack. That wasn’t a super big deal, but finding the right size an thread matching wasn’t what I expected to have to do.

Then came the bigger deal. The mount that I had for the front light on my RadRover is the same thing that came with the rack. I mounted the light to the rack only to find it hits the front of the rack and forces and angle that has the light directed too downward in front of the bike.

The included pictures are prior to my workaround. I had to find a longer machine bolt and try to fashion a spacer using about 5 flat washers to push the light mount down and away from the rack. It’s still not perfect and the light sometime rattles against the new rack.

For all the great engineering Rad does, this is a miss. That said, we still love our bikes. My wife and I both have Rad Power bikes and we’re waiting on the small baskets to come available. I hope the small baskets ship with all the hardware and hardware that works.

Has transformed mounting the bikes on the car from half an hour of messing about with straps with the cheap kind of rack that hooks onto the tailgate into five minutes. And no concerns that anything will work loose.

Simple to mount on towing ball, and once on, it is rock solid. Lots of little practical details well thought out, like clips to hold the numberplate. Lights just plugged in and worked first time. Tip-back mechanism to allow you to get in the tailgate when it’s loaded easy to use.

Sturdy and practical. Not cheap, but a pleasure to use, and a good investment since looks as though it will last for many years.

I’ve had a few different bike carriers over the years and this one is really good. It’s rock solid on my towbar and easy to use even with unusual sized bikes. Only down sides are that it’s failry heavy and bulky and you need a fair bit of strength to engage the latching handle.

I know there are more expensive Thule ones that do fold up quite small but you’ve got to draw the lines somewhere right? This carrier comes with 13 pin electrics and a neat way of clipping in the number plate without screws or sticky pads which is a nice touch.

The Halfords number plate I bought was also really nice quality on an aluminium backing. I got a good price for the carrier because Halfords they were running a promotion which gave a nice discount if you also buy any bike so I bought a cheap kids balance bike and gave that to a friend as this worked out cheaper.

Rather a silly promotion really.

I read lots of reviews about this carrier and decided to buy one myself and I’m not disappointed! There’s minimal assembly to do just the bar that the locking arms attach to, a lower trim panel under the towball lock and the number plate to fit.

Speaking of number plate Thule have brilliantly put ‘clips’ to hold it on which are fitted to the plate location like an ‘air fix’ model kit, by which I mean you just break them off the small tabs and then clip into place! It’s easier to do than describe to be honest.

I also used self adhesive pads so the plate is securely attached (I’ve only one vehicle so no need to remove it for multiple vehicles) Takes a few minutes to level up and find the correct tension on the handle to lock but once done it’s sorted for next time.

Tried it out with one E-bike and a normal MTB and the rig is solid and secure and the tilt feature to get to the boot space is a dream! Buy one, you won’t regret it specially at the discount price.
