Kids will love this cummulative and hysterical read-aloud that features a free downloadable song!” I was walking down the road and I saw. A donkey,Hee Haw! And he only had three legs! He was a wonky donkey.
” Children will be in fits of laughter with this perfect read-aloud tale of an endearing donkey. By the books final page, readers end up with a spunky, hanky-panky, cranky, stinky, dinky, lanky, honky-tonky, winky wonky, donkey!.
I was hoping to use this with children for the rhyming, but the language isnt suitable. Its basically an amusing picture book based on forced rhyme. It was first published in New Zealand where, I assume, the language is used differently (ditto Australia) but it isnt suitable for UK children.
Using wonky in the context of a prosthetic leg isnt a good start, then showing a bird carrying his missing eye is fairly horrific for winky. I can only imagine the barrage of questions that would follow this image! Honky-Tonky means nothing to children, so that doesnt work at all.
If you have to give in-depth explanations to explain the joke, it falls flat. Lanky is all well and good, but not when youre trying to build self-esteem and avoid labels based on appearance. They have enough of that to deal with.
I know children and adolescents love fart jokes (stinky-dinky) but it would cause so much distraction, it wouldnt be worth it. Hanky-panky is used to describe getting up to mischief, but In the UK, its much more associated with sexual shenanigans, so inappropriate.
The same goes for spunky, which may be used in New Zealand to mean good looking, but is not in common use here and is, again, quite sexualised. Shame. Maybe I should write my own.
I got these for my grandsons. They absolutely love it. My youngest one wants his mom to read it to him as a bedtime story. They were so excited when they got it. I’ve ordered from lakeside abs they have not disappointed me yet.
Everything I’ve purchased has always been perfect.
I can only imagine Graig Smith’s pleasure and shock as his book, THE WONKY DONKEY began flying off shelves everywhere. Like thousands of others, I saw the virile video featuring the hysterically funny Scottish Granny reading it to her wee Grandson.
The only thing I could think while watching it was, I HAVE TO HAVE THIS BOOK! Apparently, everyone else who saw the video felt the same way. To Mr. Smith’s incredible ethics, he kept his price fair, while others cranked it up to as high as $300.
I not only admire his as a man of writing mischief but as a man of morals. GOOD ON YOU CRAIG SMITH! Get the book when you can – I read it to my 4-year-old grandson at least once a day. There is also a video song on YouTube, which we watch after we read the book.
In a great green room, tucked away in bed, is a little bunny. And to all the familiar things in the softly lit room—to the picture of the three little bears sitting on chairs, to the clocks and his socks, to the mittens and the kittens, to everything one by one—the little bunny says goodnight.
In this classic of children’s literature, beloved by generations of readers and listeners, the quiet poetry of the words and the gentle, lulling illustrations combine to make a perfect book for the end of the day.
This board book edition is the perfect size for little hands.
There’s no question that this children’s classic is beautifully written, so I’ll talk about our experience with and appreciation for it. We allowed our 2 1/2 yr old Great-granddaughter to open the mailing package and the box holding the book and bunny.
Both are a perfect size for her little hands. The hardboard book is going to hold up through countless reads, and the bunny fits right in the curve of her neck as we cuddle and read. This child rarely sits still and has a difficult time calming down to fall asleep, but the first time she climbed up in my lap to read Goodnight Moon, she was captivated by the calming words and pictures.
When we reached the end, she said, “Do it again. ” Gladly! Half way through our second reading, her breathing was deep and regular. she was asleep! Goodnight Moon is a peaceful little story that takes place in “the great green room,” which is filled with lovely details for young minds to enjoy seeing over and over.
Every time we begin the book, I read “Goodnight Moon, by Margaret Wise Brown. ” She’s a genius. she deserves the credit. HA!.
This is hands down one of my kids’ favorite books. Our first one was so loved I have to get a replacement. They’ve even memorized the rhyme. Also, there’s a little mouse hidden on each of the colored pictures that shows the room.
My older kids love looking for the mouse. Highly recommend and will always keep a copy in my house.
This board book edition of a classic is a great way to introduce Halloween to the youngest of readers with a sweet-but-slightly-spooky story that makes it an ideal gift book This rollicking, rhyming tale from master storyteller Julia Donaldson is the perfect Halloween read-aloud for the youngest listeners.
A friendly witch, hungry dragon, and muddy monster learn about friendship, and readers will delight in the surprising (and not too scary) ending.
I love this book so much and so does my son. It’s such a great message about teamwork and friendship. The rhyming is great and it really flows. It might be a little long for younger babies/kids but it depends on their attention span.
Love Julia Donaldson! Read these to children and they’ll remember them forever. I read Squash and a Squeeze when I was a child and forty plus yrs later I still remember it. Room on a Broom is excellent too, a story you can read over and over again.
Beep Beep It’s Halloween Little Blue Truck is picking up his animal friends for a costume party. Lift the flaps in this large, sturdy board book to find out who’s dressed up in each costume Will Blue wear a costume too? With the delightful rhymes and signature illustration style that made Little Blue Truck a household name, Blue’s new adventure is full of festive costumes, fall colors, and plenty of Halloween fun.
Such a cute book in the normal rhythm of Little Blue Truck! My two-year-old loves lifting the flaps and making the associated animal noises. Not a long book, but is a good length for his attention span.
My son loves this series so of course he loved this one. It’s great quality as you would expect, and the lift a flap is a nice tough. Just know there’s no trick or treating so if you’re looking to introduce that concept to your toddler it’s not in this book.

I LOVE THIS BOOK. Will buy another in the series. The art is fantastic and story is pleasant. No regrets. Lots of pages. Bigger than expected but nice!! Well worth the price and more
My family loves these cute little stories about the Grumpy Monkey so much. The books are adorable, and the stories are fun for both parent and child. My husband and I both love reading these books to our son.
The art is so cute as well. I would definitely highly recommend getting these books for your little ones!.
Loved this story. My daughter is 4 and going through some BIG feelings and this story says you might not even realize that you are feeling an uncomfortable feeling, but it’s ok to feel that way anyway.
A #1 New York Times bestselling phenomenon, this deliciously funny read-aloud is an unforgettable tale of new friends and the perfect snack that will make you laugh until spicy salsa comes out of your nose.
They love chicken tacos, beef tacos, great big tacos, and teeny tiny tacos. So if you want to lure a bunch of dragons to your party, you should definitely serve tacos. Buckets and buckets of tacos. Unfortunately, where there are tacos, there is also salsa.
And if a dragon accidentally eats spicy salsa. oh, boy. You’re in red-hot trouble. This makes the perfect gift for any special occasion, from award-winning team of Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri who created Dragons Love Tacos 2: The Sequel, El Chupacabras, High Five, Robo-Sauce, and Secret Pizza Party.
I purchased this book online and regret not researching about the book prior. I just noticed it was a top seller and my 2. 5 year old is crazy for books and loves a bedtime book! I cannot believe the age group for this book is 3 years-7 years! WOW! I can’t imagine reading this book to my 2.
5 year old and having him start using the word “hate”! The book isn’t that great either, idk what the rave is all about!.
After buying wide range of books to read to children, I have found this one is by far the most popular. Being a casual relief teacher, I have read this book to a different set of children each day and they all love it.
The images are great for students to follow along as well as the captivating words that draw them in. It’s a fun light hearted book that I now can recite 😆.
The wacky Halloween version of the classic There Was an Old Lady song is now a board book! In this spooky version of the classic rhyme, a bat, an owl, a cat, a ghost, a goblin, some bones, and a wizard are all on the menu for the Old Lady to swallow.

beautiful illustration and great story! My 7 yr old granddaughter could read it to her 2 yr old cousin ! I should have taken a picture! Also my first order of this book was somehow in error left out of my total order and Target immediately sent me another!.
I love the old lady swallowing the bat! Its really good for Halloween season. I purchased it for my children and will add to my collection and reread to them as much as they want to. I love the old lady swallowing.
books, they are awesome! This one is must and perfect for any child any age!.
As a in Home early education educator I sometimes need to take breaks with the younger students. This is a great book to be silly and engage them in questions to improve critical thinking. Added bonus is that I carry a board book so no worry of bent or torn pages when I carry this in my bag.
This #1 New York Times bestselling picture book parody is the perfect Halloween read! Goodnight tomb. Goodnight Martians taking over the moon. It’s bedtime in the cold gray tomb with a black lagoon, and two slimy claws, and a couple of jaws, and a skull and a shoe and a pot full of goo.
But as a little werewolf settles down, in comes the Goon determined at all costs to run amok and not let any monster have his rest. A beloved classic gets a kind-hearted send up in this utterly monsterized parody; energetic art and a hilarious text will have kids begging to read this again and again.
Instead of the great green room we are in a cold gray tomb in this fun alternate version for spooky babies. Not too scary in my opinion but there are werewolves, goo, creatures, skulls and the like. I feel like it’s great for the cool babies bookshelf.
Everything about this book is AMAZING! The pictures have so much rich ghoulish detail and the story is fun. Read this to my daughter every night and she’s always so into the pictures. Love it. Love this book.
Pookie gets dressed up for Halloween in this silly board book from bestselling author Sandra Boynton. What will little Pookie decide to be for Halloween this year? Pookie tries on costumes one by one, but somehow can’t find the right thing.
The resolution to Pookie’s dilemma will delight toddlers and their caregivers alike. Told with Sandra Boynton’s charm and pizzazz, Spooky Pookie is a Halloween classic. Boo! You can say, “Trick or Treat!”.
Very well written that our 7 year old could read to her 4 year old brother and they both loved it. It nice to have another hard paged book, it helps keep it shape for a while. It will be fun to pass this little book down in the future.
This little piggy has a great adventure than makes you smile all the way though.
We do love us a bit o the old Pookie. Pookie, if you don’t know, is a cute pig, and his adventures include dancing, putting on snow suits, getting balloons on his birthday and (spoiler alert) forgetting what it was that was wrong.
Pookie is cool and we have them all and we always read them. The main takeaway from Spooky Pookie is “punkins” mean Halloween and if that gets the small human to eat “punkins”, then good job, Pooks!.
Spooky Pookie is a big hit with our toddler grandchild, as are all of Sandra Boynton’s books. I’m glad to have found a seasonally appropriate book that isn’t too scary for sensitive little ones.

I thought this might be easier, but the charming spooky illustrations are packed with detail and require some concentration. Sure children can search these pictures (they remind me of paintings or photos), but so can adults.
Spooky, but not gory, one will search in the dusk or dimly lit room for all the hidden in (not so) plain sight requested items. Some scenes are Victorian indoors, others not. One will need decent eyesight and a good reading light to do this.
Great as a gift for Halloween, this HC book is fully recommended.
I loved the I Spy books as a kid. I had this same exact one growing up. It’s been long gone, so when I found it on Ebay I purchased it right away. Like all the other I Spy books, it gives you hours of fun.
From the challenge of finding the items to how great the pictures/scenes are, it’s worth every penny. Having this book be spooky themed is an added bonus for you Halloween enthusiasts out there. Highly recommend this to anyone, child, adult, everyone has fun with these.
